You're projecting.
It might well be true, and part of that is likely contributed by factors outside of their direct control.
For one, there's major crisis worldwide, with a lot of people becoming tighter with their spendings, and I'm relatively certain there will be a portion of playerbase who stop playing the game less because they don't like it anymore and more so because they cannot afford it right now. Regardless of how many people leave for that reason, that's revenue lost, and it's a bigger concern today than it was even 2 years ago. "We aren't doing well financially" these days will apply to a lot of areas, and it doesn't look like it's going to be any better in a few years to come.
There's also the matter of Japanese Yen dropping in value not that long ago, which doesn't help with internal economics specifically, because currency drop typically means noticeable increase in prices while wages stagnate or become lower.
That alone, even without the general criticism towards DT, would put them in a worse position than what they were even in Stormblood, which also had mixed perception. And combined with the fact that SE just generally doesn't always make the best management decisions, this creates a non-perfect environment.
Some issues should be still avoidable even with all that in mind to be honest, but I can see where Yoshi-P is coming from when he's raising that point.
Yeah well if devs "did listen" we wouldn't be here in the first place. So much of "listen".
I do agree, people are indeed fickle back in SHB they were doom saying about WoW and look at how good that game is going.
All XIV needs to do is become a better game and people that were before loving the Dev team and now hating the Dev team will go back to loving them, I want the community to go back to loving and fully defending the dev team and sharing memes and enjoying the game together like we were before.
That said just because you are sensitive to the Dev team receiving criticism does not mean that they shouldn't receive any. me sharing what I believe will improve the game is in no way "pointed harassment" What you are saying comes across as this; Because some retards sent them death threats and said DEI we regulars should no longer say anything against what Dev team has produced.
Tbh I don't care to hear the tiresome alarmist language of you guys... "fascists" "socialists" "extremists" "communists" or whatever because you lot water the words down by handing it out to just anyone, no way you have the freedom of info, the right to bare arms, vote and protest while being under a one power dictatorship government, I assume taht you live in America not North Korea, you have never lived under fascism, that's why you can ask for stupid nonsense like real ID on the internet that gives your gov more power to monitor you!
Get out of this forum with that garbage! You have not helped in a fight against your ill informed president by defending insufferable employees like Kate; who remains a brand risk! or defending the poor choices of a dark Japanese corporation like Square Enix; that has taken your funds and instead of lightening the work load on this dev team have decided to further stretch them thin on flop projects like FF16!
Again the real world topics are not at all important to FF14; an international MMO it just shouldn't be welcome here! Miss me with the nonsense!
You are saying someone is projecting without even bothering to explain why. Geeze, I feel bad for the XIV fanbase if this is what the modern audience entails. You are somehow more of a giant corop defender than that Jeqque guy. At least he can see the other side's PoV, actually concedes with a positive spin, and explains his stance. You are just blindly firing in the gallery at this point hoping SE-sama sees ya! lmao
We are a part of this business, according to the team. 2e have been called partners and valued customers. It is in the actions of the company I'll have to judge. This is one unhappy post of many is necessary "whining" to be true, but it's clear game is trying to impelent changes and dealing w internal struggles more than we know. I blame upper mgmt (yes it includes Yoshi-P who is an executive) for not hearing not just fans but their workers I'm sure. Corporate behemoths regardless of their public image are often mishandling HR and other labor issues.
So before any back and forth occurs I just want to say that I don't think all of your statement is wrong I just think it's wrong in this instance and here's why.
So i think if this were either a new MMO or a single player game, then yeah I would agree with this whole statement. OBVIOUSLY we shouldn't attack people personally for any reason. That said, this is a long running game that pulled peoples lives in. People spend A LOT of time and money in MMO's, and communities are not only encouraged, but fostered on purpose. I think its 100% fair to demand things from these types of games. For instance, if SE hired new management devs and they said that the game they wanted to make was a hello kitty island adventure MMO going forward using FFXIV, I think everyone would rightfully riot. Though a hyperbolic example, this is because when it comes to MMO's everyone playing the game was sold some sort of promise. The game lured people in with a certain expectation. Currently many of those who stood by it and were encouraged to keep supporting feel like they were sold on a lie. Their time, money, and sometimes whole friend groups are tied to this game. It would be significantly different if the game were brand new, and examples of that are MMO's that start up and just die. People might say they suck but no one is going after the devs. The investment was significantly smaller than that of an established MMO that you sunk your life and money into.
And I agree they should just unsub. That's the mature thing to do. However if you ever want a reason to once again come back to your home, then make your demands. Tell the devs what it takes to get you back, and to earn your sub. The devs are more than free to make the game that they want to, but there has to be compromise, in that at the end of the day they need to sell subscriptions or whatever it is that keeps the game afloat. If the game they want to make isn't selling, or keeping up with shareholder demands, then this might not be the place for them to do so.
This is like also your opinion man. I would say that there have been plenty of hardcore breakdowns that you can youtube that AREN'T hateful, that critique the literary work, creative design, and gameplay throughout. And like, it's possible to enjoy bad things. Im pretty sure most people have some type of creative work that they can objectively say is bad, that they enjoy. The problem comes when you start to see a pattern of arrogance, and deliberate indifference. But like, that's just my opinion man.
This part however I think is completely false, and I'll tell you why. From the last financial report the MMO division is said to have gone down by 45%. FFXI and FFXIV are the only two games in their MMO division currently. FFXI's playerbase has actually grown by an estimated 100% (probably around 200k accounts), meaning that in theory that should offset that negative number, but its still as bad as it is. This can only lead us to believe that FFXIV has lost somewhere around 50% of their playerbase. Keep in mind that this division funnels money to other SE projects and massive failure in this division affects the WHOLE company. That said, if the game was around 1 million-ish before, we can assume that now it is around 500k. If they lost another 50% like you said, they would be down to around 250k, a number that is insanely close to their first MMO FFXI, in the year 2025. If that were to happen I think you would see significant budget cuts to FFXIV, and a very likely sunsetting of the service to start anew.
And unfortunately, knowing that SE got a large portion of their shares bought out by that activist conglomerate, I'd put money down the next MMO be a cross platform mobile style MMO. I mean shit they might just pivot everything to the FFXIV-M and keep costs super low, and profit high by pumping out gatcha garbage. That's my personal fear anyways.
Anyways, full transparency I don't want anything bad to happen to FFXIV, but I have made my fair share of criticism (without attacking the devs). I am putting my money where my mouth is and since 6.2 EW I have taken long extended breaks. My sub ended earlier this week and I don't see myself resubbing until the .5 or .55 patch. And if there is no real replayability or things that I want to do then it'll only be a month long sub. Hoping that's not the case though. It's just the only way I know to get SE to hear mine and others voices.
That's rude, calling me nothing. I mean, that's the only way to take that sentence. If no one is projecting then how could I? Unless it's a grammatical mistake or a low key jab. I can see either being true. Besides, you didn't even give a reason why you think i'm projecting, you are just name calling at this point, lmao.
I'd have to acknowledge that we are actually 'lucky' in a sense.
I mean, the Devs do still appear to read the forums and, sometimes, take notice of the suggestions that are made. Speaking from experience, that's a significant contrast to some games where the Devs don't engage with the players at all (in fact they actively avoid it) and outright ignore feedback.
To be honest..
The hypocrisy behind some of these responses is completely off the charts
The amount of corporate bootlicking Exmo has been doing in every thread is truly extraordinary. And he does it for free too LOL
counter counterpoint: have you considered that regular people when we do a poor job, even if we cry we will still get fired if enough money is lost, we're not asking for a wipe of the dev team btw just for them to do better to my understanding. xD
You'd think that after having negative interactions with so many they would turn inward and consider maybe what they are saying is wrong but they ignore it. I'm still wondering how am I asking for CBU3 employees to be harassed. They have very likely derailed the convo for constructive criticism and suggestions and devolved it into an online slap fight with name calling and useless IRL politics. J:
Just don't send death threats or attack them personally.
"This design is a slog and needs to be addressed by (insert feedback)." vs. "The devs need to be thrown in the trash for tanking the game."
This is not hard to understand.
You were calling for specific employees of SE to be fired and you don't see them as people. It's been explained to you multiple times.
Not what I said but I'm sorry for hurting your feelings.
I've been more critical than most about 7.3, I'm just not a jackass about it. You see what you want to see.
You know what I find tiresome? Virtue signaling. I won't necessarily say its what Yoshi P is doing because after all he is a dev and he is the victim of whatever feedback he is reading.
What do any of you truly believe you are accomplishing by yelling at 0.00001% of social media trolls who post about murder or otherwise extreme threats? I have some advice for all of you including SE. Just use the block button. The same way they turn off comments on YouTube, the same way you can ignore people on forums. Revolutionary, I know.
The solution is not political ranting or competitions for the Nobel peace prize. The trolls don't care.
Huge difference between devs thrown in trash and someone being fired. "Dev" is not personal at all, some of the forums may think they have a "personal" relation with devs. But they have no more personal relationship with them then the guy who picks up their garbage. Acknowledging that a group/person is doing poorly at their jobs is not an attack. That a company might need to replace them is also not an attack. This forum has a strange idea of what an attack is.
With that said. People should not interact with people who create the game outside of the game. Except ofr the person that puts their name on the front of the game every chance. You stand on stage and take the applause you can stand on stage and take the boos. No need to name anyone else. If the writing is bad (subjective?), SE should consider making changes with the staff that oversee it. This weird idea that people can't be removed from their job is boggling.
Projecting much? I have not seen a die post on these forums or reddit. If they do exist (the world is a big place) using a few fringe examples as the standard is just sad. No one is calling the people defending the game parascoial crazies that send birthday gifts in real life to people who make a video game.
I also think we are past the feedback stage. Inventory issues, we can't fix that but you can pay more. Open data centre travel, can't fix that it killed other centres ques. Healers don't want so little to do, tanks get more heals. Rival wings is two team pvp can't put that into roulette because other thing is three team. Don't want 8 man pvp removed, to bad. Open world is pretty dead, here is a temporary atma grind. Other content never gets updated, squadrons, chocobo racing, breeding, gates. These are things going on years.
The MSQ needs actual gameplay. Going from point A to point B and talking to an NPC just to watch a 2 minute cutscene of yet more talking shouldn't be the majority of the MSQs. Going from point A to point B just to click a sparkle on the ground so you can return to an NPC to watch a 2 minute cutscene of yet more talking isn't engaging, it's busy work. Did you know that the last area in the DT MSQ has you fighting only 4 mobs? 4 mobs and they just fall over before your rotation is done. The area before that it was something like 6 mobs.
The entire time I was watching the end cutscene for Shaaloani I was thinking "Wow this would be much cooler if I was actually controlling the cannon (similar to the Air Force One GATE) instead of just watching another cutscene". At some point this stops being a game and becomes an interactive movie (and I'm using interactive very loosely here).
Let's be realistic. No one is going to be fired by some people calling for it, especially not individuals with a face in the community. You might argue feedback is a waste of time at this point, but calling for firings is an even bigger waste of time.
And I said "personally" as in something that relates to their person, not as in a personal relationship.
Telling devs that they should be fired is one of the most cruel and deluded things to tell. It's not that different from telling your garbage collector that they should lose their job. By saying this you've essentially stopped speaking about a game and its content, and started speaking about ruining people's actual lives.
I do hope for your own sake that you don't lose yours someday, but I guess that would put it in perspective for you once it actually happens to you. Especially if you don't have any safety net.
"You should be fired because you're not able to provide anything up to my standards in a video game" is certainly something on the scale of selfish entitlement. Go touch some grass, some of you, you're sounding absolutely unhinged.
there's also the ones howling for Kate to be fired because she dares to have a political view that mainly consists of "i don't want fascists in my government." and yet i've been told to "take my meds", lmfao. The OP has also been trying to argue that it's not Fascism if it's not a dictatorship. They've clearly neglected their historical reading, or just.... didn't bother reading about the years leading up to Nazi Germany and that it was almost word for word what has been slowly happening in the US.
But at this point it seems like people simply won't learn until the worst comes to pass.
Ya know, I know they'll never do it but when I think to myself what makes other single player games a better experience for things like this? What have other MMO's done? Story fights were all generally harder or significantly more engaging, and when you get done and you go into a cut scene where someone asks "are you okay" or "that was close" or "this is dangerous" you actually have an emotional feeling connected to that. I'm not saying general mobs need to be savage or extreme tier, but ya know maybe some of these open world pop mobs need to be a bit more threatening. Maybe some of them need to require one or two friends (maybe it encourages more people to play together idk). One thing that could be a minor annoyance at times, but I have grown to deeply appreciate with FFXI is that they actually did this exact thing. There were some open world pop mobs that were tied to the main missions, or seudo main side quests that you needed a friend or two to help with. Not a full party per say, but unless you had the perfect strat, subjobs, and gear, you weren't solo'ing it. I mean shoot they have the NPC's now they could even incorporate them more if they wanted to keep it solo friendly. It would feel so much better.
*Enters thread talking about how the dev's perceive feedback*
*Conversation is about fascism for some reason*
Classic forum moment. Feels like you could make a thread about a new glam and 2 pages in you'd have some bluesky poster red in the face screaming at you about how everyone is a fascist
It's ironic because Kate said herself that she doesn't think people should be allowed to leave negative feedback on creative works like FF14. I wonder what kind of person would suppress public opinion :p Maybe one of these bluesky posters has the word I'm looking for. It's not "fastest." hmm...
Yes please use the echo chamber I mean Blue Sky while the rest of us stay on topic. We do not need to rehash the same keyboard historian debates. I've dealt with enough of you to know.
From what I understand, the staff prefers we stay off the subject of politics in any case, seemingly for good reason. The same people polluting coherent discussions all over the internet.
Things that didn't happen
Not gonna lie if I was a dev, read that forum thread, and realized that many of the posters had a chance to be at a fanfest I attended, I'd be scared shitless.
Players are people, too, and can stop paying. Give them WoW Shadowlands moment ;)
Also, if a player would be advocating for "purges", he would be banned, yet employees are fine to have meltdowns on BlueSky about gamers or Trump...
Idgaf about the devs' feelings. Make a better product or get used to the criticism and backlash. Fire Yoshi P and the idiot devs going nuts on social media. They're all a cancer to the game and its development. 14 will continue to decline as long as those losers are making decisions, and no amount of toxic positivity will change that.
Don't lump me in with one side just because I don't like the other. If you think the world is split between pink hair supporters and bald man supporters then may I suggest this incredible place called "outside." Both of them are pro-censorship and express extremist ideals. They're basically the same person.
Welcome to my world... if you're not with them then you are then somehow against them and need to apparently pick up a history book or even better being told touch grass by people that post on the forum like 5 times more than yourself engaging in useless political or anti consumer debates lol.
Both sides are the dumb side lol
I'm with the Roegadyn; you're gonna need some proof to back up those claims that she said these things otherwise it didn't happen!
Square needs to update the engine that would make the game better in general so the animations are what hit you not the aoe markers xD
Personally, I consider it an investment. If it breaks me, I just stop investing. It's just beautiful and nice.
Genuinely, how am I projecting? What am I even projecting?
People wishing death, joblessness and more on those working on games they play is a tale as old as time, and I think asking people to be civil when sending feedback is not an insane thing to ask. Many of us have received these messages for less, even completely unprompted.
We agree on many things, but I do not agree on being "past the feedback stage". Nothing gives anyone the right to send these threats to anybody, even less over a game of all things. As customers, our most effective feedback is our wallet. Telling someone to die because they didn't implement something you (plural you) wanted or they implemented it wrong will only make them dismiss you. You can be harsh with your critics, but there is a line imho. Crossing it only detracts from your point.
Basically this. I guess someone had to spell it out for those at the back still struggling with the concept of not being an asshole over a videogame, of all things. SE will see the numbers drop and hopefully stop making the dumbest decisions known to man.
