I wouldn't be surprised if they wait till it's too late to recover loss of revenue and have to cut back even more so that the higher ups can keep their profits up.

Here's hoping it's covered in the Live Letter tomorrow.
I really hope...!!
It's sad that once again, no major content this patch... the rest of content is pretty good, but I was really looking forward to something housing-related.
(Edit: I watched the stream muted, and do not understand Japanese, so if something was said please let me know!)
I don't care about what Yoshida may have said between two slides. We were supposed to have some interior update at 7.2 or 7.3 (PPL LXXXVIII) and since then, they've kept postponing it; we've literally had no information other than "not ready yet." If they've given up on housing, just say so!
(edited in light of Darkstride's comment) welp, guess we're screwed for awhile still.
It's honestly bizarre to me how little respect Yoshi gives to the entire housing system in these LL's. Like, WoW made massive waves with the reveal of their long-awaited housing. LL co-host Foxclon hosts a YT series in which he tours players' houses regularly. There are so many communities of decorators and so much energy invested in this aspect of the game but then he just usually goes "oh right, housing, meh, there'll be some more about that later" and keeps stringing us along.
I guarantee you that if he'd spent half the time detailing *what* a Variant Dungeon is and devoted some minutes to discussing housing instead no one would be upset; to the contrary *lots* of people were hoping for some more info about size upgrades and item limit increases after the last LL.
All I can say after this latest push back is that what we get had BETTER be absolutely SPECTACULAR. I'm talking like...
- All the Tardis upgrades
- Apartment upgrades
- An incredible number of slots to merit this much stalling
- More furnishings releasing at once than all of ARR-EW COMBINED (Including basically everything left from all of the past design contests AND the current one)
- The ability to build up to a large plot on Islands or elsewhere instead of everyone squabbling and fighting over wards
After so long and so much stalling I had better see at least 4 out of those 5 things if not all 5 of them. I fully appreciate the other updates we got this patch (especially for glam) but I'm sick and tired of waiting on housing stuff.
I'm also disappointed and a little annoyed, but at least this time we got a reason instead of a generic "we need more time".
The translation from Discord was:
-Y "Housing we're in the last steps but we need until 7.5"
-(Explaining why the update takes so long)
-(CPU overload if 1.5x the items)
-Basically the optimization is heavily revolved around the CPU memorization and applying the slots that uses the CPU to memorize it. Server engineers should be more knowledgable in this one so we will not provide too much information on this to prevent misinformation.
7.5 is so far away though lol.
You forgot:
- Possibility to change the interior configuration (location of the stairs, rooms...)
- New interior designs
- New exterior designs
- Possiblity to adjust the furniture along the z axis
- Graphical update on housing items/yards
- Two dye channels on housing items
- No more limitation on aquariums or special items
- Possibility to use the Glamour Dresser
- Possibility to respawn inside your house
- Full balcony access
But don't worry, I'm sure that, after all this wait, we'll be gracely rewarded with 50 more interior slots by houses and nothing more. Please be grateful about it.
From the sound of it everything he was explaining / referring to was with regard to the item limit increase. Would've been nice if he had addressed why the size upgrade has to wait considering they don't appear to be related in any way. One improvement in 7.4 and the other in 7.5 would've been a lot more palatable to folks waiting basically the entirety of DT for housing developments.
Still the issue with actual an upgrade to the item limits, especially for large is too low at 400...
The Tardis interior update will make it so theoretically all 792,000 plots in the game could be a large at once. They have to calculate and make hardware adjustments for that potentiality, so it makes the most sense to just include the item expansion in that math and roll it all out at once.
I love decorating and I'm bummed out about it as well but I can see why wards going from six larges to sixty, with presumably double the number of items in each one, could take a while to get sorted on the backend. Hopefully the wait means they also have some other housing goodies in store for that patch that they haven't revealed yet.
I just hope when they announce the next Xpack they clearly list which feature/improvement will happen during which patch rather then claim they all come with the expansion.
He said (according to translation) that the interior size feature is actually already complete. The issue with releasing it is that they can't currently handle every single house converting to a Large interior along with the increased item limit that accompanies it. So they are working on fixing the technical limitation part of it.
You can read the full translation on the FFXIV discord. He describes the issue in more detail.
Here's the fan translation of Yoshida's explanation:
tl;dr: It's taking a while because it's a difficult technical hurdle to roll out both the Tardis interior and the item expansion without the server exploding.Quote:
Yoshida: Right now I'm seeing everyone from Housing side feeling jealous here, but we are currently entering the final stage of the optimization push to increase the placement limit for for the addition of slots for outdoor furnishings and indoor furniture....I'm so sorry that it ended up taking that much time, and I'm very sure we can get it done by Patch 7.5. I'm confident that we are able to increase the outdoor furnishing/indoor furnishing placement amount by 1.5x, and we're currently entering the final stage of optimizations. Currently we're focusing on the speeding up the servers, and that's what we are doing right now.
Foxclon: So if you could provide us detailed explanation on the matter...
Yoshida: For this...umm, well, you see...basically the so-called number of objects that can be placed — meaning where the players place these objects — are information we obviously have to manage entirely via our servers. Of course this is a given when the players log out of the game, I mean, they have to log out, right? So this means when the amount becomes 1.5 times higher than the total volume, our beloved CPU-kun has to keep track of it all, and you can imagine our CPU-kun goes “Gyaaaah!” and “Aaaah!” with that kind of work load. Under normal operations, we can manage it somehow, sure; but let's say when maintenance happens and we have to restart the server (for example), if we turn off CPU-kun's power, you can imagine CPU-kun would just go blank face at you. Now, imagine me go "Now, CPU-kun, rise from your slumber so that you can welcome our lord players into the gaaaaame!". When that happens, CPU-kun will have to go through the process to memorize everything all over again, and when the volume is now 1.5 times more, the CPU-kun will just hold its head and go “WAAAAAAAAAAH!!!”, which cause the time it takes to open the server getting higher... Yep, that's exactly it. In other words, and to simply put, we're optimizing them so that the server memorizes them quicker than what they're doing currently. And then you see, since we have so many worlds, if we get into cases where we need to perform emergency maintenance for whatever reason that comes up, like taking it down for a second and fixing it right away, it will end up taking three times as long... or something like that.
Plus, this was mentioned in the past but I mentioned something about how you can get your housing interior to be glamoured into L size regardless of your current house size (Size L, Size M, Size S), right? Well the system is almost complete, actually, it's finished — but here's the thing: assuming everyone switches to L size, this will also cause the number of furniture slot placement to increase, right? In this case, CPU-kun would...well, imagine if the CPU-kun have to perform two of these tasks simultaneously...
Foxclon: This means CPU-kun would already...
Yoshida: Yep, imagine that CPU-kun's eyes would go bloodshot and wring my neck because of all the sufferring...so for now, we are going to work on the final stage of optimizing the numbers where players can place and manage, and then increase these numbers. That way, we can then increase the amount of placement number for S-size house owners, same goes for M-size house owners, and finally the L-size house owners as well. So we really need to get this part done properly first. Once this is done, we can finally work on allowing players to be able to change their interior size while ignoring that house size...we're aiming to deliver not only for indoor furnishings but also outdoor furnishings simultaneously, so we're definitely in the final push for the optimization. So it would be greatly appreciated if players could just wait a little more...We're working and determined to make it happen without players having to get this update on the next expansion, and once we're done with this, we can then FINALLY move into the glamour plates....and so on...!
Foxclon: One by one, in order...
Yoshida: The plates are the same as well! You can imagine the servers go "ARRGHGHGHGHGH" over this. Of course, being able to swap them instantly means it will involve some form of server communication and other factors. (Some parts omitted) Well, beyond that, we also want to add more content...especially as a future challenge, where we want to add more things we can do in public fields※. You are aware that we can only display current buffs up to 30 in a screen now, yes? We really want to optimize that and do something about it, making it possible to develop more ways to play...Well this would involve future content and I might getting ahead of myself here, but we plan to optimize things in order, step-by-step like this, making everyone's experience a lot more comfortable. For now, glamour is going to go through huge changes, and we are now working on the final phases of optimization on housing here, so I'd appreciate everyone's support on the matter.
(Translator Note: ※ Public field likely refers to the zones that are not cities. You know, the place where you do your FATE / Sightseeing log / taking Gposes)
So when they release a bad update with just 50 slots increase and say "It's done", people will again blame this on: "well it was just bad translation excuse n#".
They said 1.5 twice… so am I correct in assuming that means at least an extra hundred? For small, 200 x 1.5 = 300. For large, 400 x 1.5 = 600. But then medium, 300 x 1.5 = 450, which would seem kinda odd in comparison to the other two… I’m bad at math, so if I’m not processing this right, feel free to correct me.
Someone had asked him at an event, and he told them they were looking to double the current limits, so I guess we’ll find out for sure in 7.5. Bummed it’s delayed again, but I’ll have new glam to play with in the meantime now that restrictions are finally getting unlocked!
Correct. 1.5x is 50% more than we have right now.
I wonder if this includes Apartments and Free Company chambers also or just proper houses.
300 / 30 for Small.
450 / 45 for Medium.
600 / 60 for Large.
I can understand the reasons for delay though.
Also the news that the "Housing Interior upgrade" system is complete code wise and just needs the server side optimizations to happen is good to hear too.
792,000 x 600 = 475,200,000.
That's the theoretical maximum amount of items thats stored within the game if everyone went large and the increase was 1.5x.
But yeah, not everyone's gonna want to upgrade to large, some of my friends own a small and have already said they'll probably go up to a Medium at best.
Me, I have a Medium already and I want to go large. I already have a design in mind too.
Thank you for providing that context. I suddenly feel a LOT better about all of this. We were way overdue for a real explanation, and apology, and this is one I can accept. I'm also very glad to hear that this server optimization will also help us get a glamour overhaul and more plates and other QoL improvements. As much as I wish they'd explained this back in like 7.1 or 7.2, I'm happy to finally get the REAL reason this has been such an issue all expansion and I very much look forward to my item increase!
Just seems odd that they’d go that route, because if you look at each individually, smalls are getting an extra 100, mediums 150 and larges 200. Which is proportional I guess, but I can already see some wondering why they didn’t use a more rounded number, like 100, 200, and 300. (Other than, of course, higher number breaks game lol)
As a small enthusiast, I’m thrilled with the extra 100 though! As far as I know, they’ve never confirmed that this is going to apply to outdoors as well; in the past they’ve always been very careful to say “interior” or “inside your house.” But if it does, an extra 10 outdoor slots for smalls would be great too!
Even 600 slots for an L are still embarrassing..
What I really, really want is to do away with the interior size = specific item limit restriction. It's basically forcing everyone to move into larges if they want the most slots, which is a waste of the other house layouts.
I don't want to move to a large, because then I'd spend tons of slots hand-crafting a layout to mimic my medium's. Aren't they all the same instance, in the end? They just change the space we can physically inhabit, but the item limit restriction feels useless considering we can choose any layout we want at any time (theoretically, since it's not released yet. But let's go with that theory that there's no limit to changing your interior's layout)
It seems like that’s probably the biggest reason for the hold up of both the increase and the interior size remodel, because they have to accommodate for the fact that everyone might decide to make their interior a large in an entire ward or something!
It would be nice to have a flat rate, now that size remodel is going to be a thing. But I’m definitely not upgrading size just to get more items, unless they start making new interior layouts eventually and I like one of them enough to justify switching. At most, all I’d really want is a small layout as-is, just add an attic, or let personals create as many additional rooms as gil allows. lol
Now the other question is: are outdoor limits tied to the plot size or the interior size if you upgrade? My assumption would be plot size, since they already seem to be worried this is going to be a strain.
Yeah, I'm not upgrading either at this point in time. I like my medium, and I don't really want to tardis it. I just want enough slots to finish filling it out with a few left over so I can do seasonal decorations without removing slots. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure 150 more slots will be enough. I may have to do some re-designing if that's all we're getting.
Maybe I'll get lucky and they come out with an interior layout that I like even more than my current one and I'll have to redecorate anyway! XD
The sad thing for me it's that it's only logical to do so if the item slot limit is tied to your layout. We won't really see any layouts except larges being used unless someone is actively deciding to get a "worse" house for one reason or another. I also won't change my layout because I like the spot where the stairs are in my medium, and in my design I don't need such high ceilings as a large has. But I burn with envy thinking of those nice 600 slots they will get! That's so much clutter I could place around my house! haha
It wouldn't make sense to tie garden slots to your interior, no. You will likely only be able to upgrade by moving to a bigger plot. They're two separate things with separate storage.
That is why we should push for a flat item slot rate now!
Sort of off topic but sort of related...
Does anyone have some screenshots they can share of the modern/sleek interior of a large? Preferably unfurnished. I primarly want to see what the stairs look like

Thank you!
i dont care the cost i spent 400 mil gil on my house now lol
