So you're just talking out your ass because your only frame of reference is from 27 years ago. got it.
In before inevitable thread closure.
OP is probably a troll since the series is famous/infamous even among people who don't play FF for being populated by pretty boys and the super flamboyant Amano art which has been with the series since its third entry in the west. There's no way they don't know that if they had played all the games they claim.
Plus this game itself has had freaking Jandelaine and Haurchefant for over a decade now.
Final Fantasy has always had questionable crossdressing pretty boys, strong female characters, diverse casts of characters and somehow none of it was ever a problem in the past.
Gamers have become such whiny snowflakes nowadays, it's tiresome
Dude. FFVI was only the third FF game stateside. That's only 2 games in the US not being initially released with Amano artwork. And the Playstation Era was literally the next game after that.
You're also leaving out all the bishi guys with long-flowing ponytails: Edgar, Setzer, and Kefka. Also, the character portraits in-game used the Amano art and Locke's subsequent appearances in 3D are based off his Amano art.
This...this turned into a massive fire, fast. The OP is probably long gone by now, and all this arguing isn't doing anyone any favors or moving things forward. If anything, please everyone, take a breath and please relax. We're here for a video game, yes? Then let's discuss the game, pros and cons. This thread needs to be closed so we can all move on and discuss other things.
I really hate the wokeness trend in video games. It has been a thorn in my side. That being said. When it comes to FFXIV I honestly do not give a flying French fry. I have played FFXIV for 15 years now, and it is my game. My one escape. IDC if they add wokeness, members of the alphabet gang, idc. In MMOs you have the ability to simply not interact with the content you do not like. It is a safe space for all types of people, regardless of your background, affiliation, religion, country, race, and anything else. This game has helped me change how I see the world. I used to be super intolerant to people who where not hetero-sexual, (something I am not proud of). While playing FFXIV I met a cool dude, and we played together for several years, and during a random night of hanging out, he told me about problems he was having with his husband. I was super stunned to find out he was gay, (it simply never came up). I realized from that point, that it didn't matter. It was irrelevant, and stupid to dislike people on stuff that had not effect on you, or that they could not control. I love this game. If something in the game bothers you, then leave. We won't notice you going, and we don't care. This is our world, our safe place. It becomes even more safe when you leave and take your negative views with you. Thank you for coming to my ted-talk.
You don't need me to do that, you'll obviously make up any excuse all on your own.
FYI, the word bigotry can apply to both sides
bigotry
noun [ U ] disapproving
the fact of having and expressing strong, unreasonable beliefs and disliking other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life
Making up a stupid scenario and then pretending to be mad about it is fun
Hate the labels for being overused if you must (I'm a bit annoyed myself), but it's a very real and often very detrimental thing.
Again, DEI is a very real term used by very real companies and they work exactly as "muh grifters" describe. It's easy to find on corporate websites, watch conferences about it, etc. They even have figured out the term is poison so they're preparing for a rebrand soon.
I hope someone "grifts" this thread on a youtube video or something. That would be fun.
DEI most definitely is not a term made by people commenting on how racist and sexist it is. And also if you like it, go ahead and support it more. I personally don't want another DT and I am only considering staying subbed because of gameplay (on everything except Healers).
Considering that the forums is where we're "supposed" to leave any and all feedback, one could argue that a post like this might be appropriate as feedback for why OP is (allegedly) unsubbing.
Wokeness and social commentary nonsense aside, I'm not really sure why it belongs in our video games to begin with anyway. I play FFXIV to immerse myself in a world that *isn't* the actual one I live in - the modern culture war does not and should not exist for me or anyone else when we're in game. I don't care what you believe, I don't care what your lived experience is and I don't care if you're LGBTQ or on the opposite side of the fence. I see an avatar of a humanoid playing a class and I care far more that that can play said class.
It's kinda sad to see this sort of virtriolic back and forth showing up in everything. Final Fantasy XIV is for fans of Final Fantasy XIV, no political side or argument has ownership of it. If y'all could get back to moaning about the VPR changes, that'd put us back on track.
No one could not argue that. OP hasn't even given any examples in the thread for unsubbing except for one person in another game that looked kinda non-binary? Great feedback send that over to YoshiP ASAP.
It's a low effort troll post, only purpose of the thread is to laugh at people taking it seriously.
If you're only just now quitting over the game being woke, you either didn't actually pay attention to a lot of stuff in the game as well as outside or fell for grifters that are making being mad at the "woke" for financial profit. We literally had gay marriage in the game before it was legalized across the entirety of the US, there's been multiple canonical LGBT NPCs throughout the years, gender locked gear has being phased out for years so people can express themselves however they wish, etc. Did you know that there was official FF14 representation at a Pride parade one year?

Do you know that Square Enix has had a pride mascot for literal years at this point?

So I mean, don't let the door hit you on the way out if it's suddenly a problem that Square Enix has been woke or whatever haha that's on you for not paying attention. I also hope you don't play on PS5 or Xbox because those companies always celebrate pride and have games with LGBT and female leads. Sony Japan was part of Tokyo Pride in 2023.

Average DT hater lol
An announcement of your departure was not necessary, but your departure is appreciated, regardless.
Noticed you said you played thru enough of DT to notice wokeness , however the character you are posting on is level 90 ...hmmm. Why don't you post on your main....since you quit anyways ......right...
I would describe it as people in different media who managed to 'industrialise' wokeness. and by wokeness I don't mean like being a decent human being, I mean the type of wokeness an extremist SJW would push. A good exemple would be the next assassin creed game. The series, while having some historical component in it, is heavely based on fiction. like, the over all plot is that two secret organisation of atlhetic time traveller fight over alien artifact to take control of the world. But then they announce their new game and proclaim that it will be grounded in reality, to a point that the game would let people learn about tje accurate history of Sengoku era japan. Then they present the 2 mc of the game and one them is a black samurai who's musical theme is mostly made of a hip hop. So, of course people where quick to point out that the ''historicaly accurate'' part went out the window quite fast. Now this story is long enought so I'll speed thing up a bit, Ubisoft claimed this was accurate cause this characther is Yasuke, an historical figure of japan who was well the first foreigner to become a samurai under Oda nobunaga rules. But turn out all this was a lie spread by a Woke european historian, who went to japan to study there and become a specialist in Japan history. Yasuke, in reality, was a slave. it just that the historian basicly created a theory/fanfiction about the possibility of Yasuke being well, a samurai hero. While he presented it as well, a theory/fanfiction in Japan, he sold his story as accurate historical fact to the western world. Now all this created a dramma where the Japaness gov in involved and probably suing this man soon and most likely restricting the Assassin creed game in japan.
Alright that was quite long, but what part of this is ''industrialised'' well it simple. Only a diehard fan or lore nerd of the series would have all the context I gave you about that whole thing. Most people who are going to play the game don't care that much about all that. So when those fan point out all of this, the creator can easily pull out the ''You're racist'' cards to deflect any complain about the game or it depiction and for the vast majority of people that all they see. So they create dramma around their game and use that to sell this to casual players all while having a free ''get out of jail'' cards in case the review ain't good or if anyone has any complain about the game really.
Anyway sorry for the long post. All that to say that um idk why people keep bringing ''wokeness'' into dawntrail. Clearly that ain't the issue with the MSQ and to me it seem that (thankfully) Sweet baby inc didn't touch dawntrail story or whatever people keep claiming.
Nope. This is my main. I stopped playing DT after the first week or two. The last quest I remember doing in DT is the one where you're looking at pillars to ham-fistedly be forcefed exposition regarding the history of the island while dragging Wuk around the city. That was enough to stop my interest in the expansion. Since then, I've just been doing the daily and weekly Gold Saucer and bidding on house plots. The limited time I spent in DT was enough; honestly, just the initial cinematics and gameplay up to arriving at Tuliyollal was enough for me. I'll probably still continue at the Gold Saucer until my subscription ends. (I missed out on the FFXV car during the last event, so at least I'll have a decent amount of GS currency, should I decide to play again after the next expansion is released--buying a DT story skip, of course.)
Remember when bait use to be believable, Pepperidge Farms remembers.
I’m so sorry that one voice actor out of more than 50 is trans. Truly DEI must be our ruin. Next I’m gonna learn that a Final Fantasy game might contain a feminine looking man or something? I can’t even bear to imagine it! Dang politics suddenly! Woke has finally gone too far!!!! I’m going to return to my comfort games with no politics, like the Metal Gear franchise or Civ.
I am just surprised he got past Ul'dah at all, what with it architecture and the dunesfolk lalas being based on arabia and the middle-east.
