I liked talking to them, yeah. Even if the casual nature of just going around with the Twelve was off-putting to me at first, getting to see the personalities of each was a big plus and one of the reasons I was invested. That was nice.

Everyone here may know I am a huge XI fan, but it is pretty odd how the biggest XI news in years wasn't from the actual FFXI game........lol......SE hates XI so much, they would rather give other games XI content than XI.
Anyway......It would be more intriguing if both games borrowed jobs and AF armor from one another. So XIV would get GEO, COR, etc, XI gets MCH, SGE, etc.
Not a raid guy; subbed to complete the story.
Preparing myself to transform into a giant bucket of piss when the gear drops aren't unlocked for all roles.
They could do AF armor as the first ally raid rewards for each job, then relic armor as second, then empyrean armor as the last. It would be more gear but every job would have its own set per ally raid. And they could have few other key sets like salvage or nyzul sets be lv1 glamours that drop in crates like they did with 2b set.
When it comes to ally raids for FFXI it deserves more then just the normal ally raids.
It'd have to be either AF or Relic if they went that route as they're the same models just palette swaps. Salvage gear would be a good example of possible role-based gear but they already gave us one set back in ARR, the Wootz Mail set (along with the Wootz Cuirass which is the Koenig set). They'd also have to rename a bunch of them since they've already used a lot of the names of the AF and Relic gearsets along with their iLvl Reforged variants in here lol Getting the actual Empyrean gear models in would be lovely but it would also bother me to no end if all tanks got to share say one set of AF-based gear.
For at least one tier I'd like to see the Adaman Hauberk of Fending, the Igqira Weskit of Casting, the Dalmatica of Healing, Shura Togi of Striking, Crimson Scale Mail of Maiming, Hecatomb Harness of Scouting (yeah I know NIN was never able to wear that set but putting it there due to THF roots), and the Sha'ir Manteel of Aiming (sorry MCH this one's for BRD and DNC) I can see Abjuration gear models being put to good use for the raids or maybe even sets from Adoulin as a majority of that gear was frontier/wilderness themed which would fit nicely with Dawntrail's aesthetic
Not a XI player at all, have only really heard bits and pieces about the game in general. Very much hoping that we get something along the lines of the Ivalice alliance raids; as a non-Tactics/XII player, I honestly really enjoyed the story of that and how it felt pretty decently worked into XIV's world. It was much more "direct" in how it took stuff from Ivalice and put it into XIV's world compared to something like Crystal Tower and its FFIII references, but I didn't find it to be an issue. As much as is noticeable by someone unfamiliar with the source, Ivalice's raids felt like a great balance between "crossover that uses a lot of stuff directly" and "worked into the world of FFXIV without feeling jarring or unfitting."
...which is a lot of talking about Ivalice and not the upcoming XI raids, but I think a similar approach would be great.
Here are some examples of gear they could use.

Don't forget this one
I never understood that debate. It's clearly blue, but like everything else in XI, takes on purplish hues in the right weather/lighting in game.
Never played FFXI, but I'd be interested to learn about some of the stories/lore through the raids. I wonder if they'll integrate FFXI's locations into Etheirys, or have Vana'diel represented as another shard that we travel to? And will the characters we encounter be the races from XI, or will they be converted to XIV's equivalents?
Whatever the case, I hope the storyline stands on its own and makes sense to us non-XI players. The Nier raids are awesome, but I couldn't get into the story attached to them at all. I knew zero about Nier going in, and coming out I felt like I knew even less.
I've never played XI but I'm excited for this. Maybe the devs can learn some things from each other. Like, I heard the XI glam system has no job restrictions! I'm so envious! :(
We actually already have some FFXI areas in Hydaelyn, both thematically and literally (Gridania is basically Windurst with elves, the Aery references Dragon's Aery, part of the Ishgard residential area is called Rolanberry Field(s), Alzadaal's Legacy is literally the Alzadaal Undersea Remnants, also Dynamis was the name of an end-game content zone in FFXI (notorious for originally costing a million gil for the item required for a party to enter and you could only enter once a week - long since changed). Eureka was also meant to be a love-letter to FFXI in both environment and gameplay (even if it's name came from FFIII not XI). Even the Mothercrystal battlefield is technically the Empyreal Paradox (although inside the planet rather than out in space - for that matter the Mothercrystal itself originated with the five Mothercrystals in FFXI).
The previous two FFXI crossover special events featuring Shantotto and Iroha also took place in areas deliberately meant to reference their FFXI connections (Shantotto's event involved Gridania, due to it being very similar to the Federation of Windurst she is a Minister of Magic in, and Iroha's FATEs featured, in order: fighting robber crabs near Costa del Sol referenced infamous 'Dooms' parties in the Valkurm Dunes; fighting the scorpion Serkeht in the Sagoli Desert refrerenced it as a NM in Altepa Desert; fighting voidsent demons in the grounds of Haukke Manor referenced the Kindred demons that inhabited the similar gothic Castle Zvhal and the surrounding Xarcabard area, and finally, fighting the ahriman Spotter and a Dark Dragon referenced the famous rank 2.3 boss fight against those enemies in the three 'Burning Circles' near the three cities.
And to say nothing of many enemies in Hydaelyn are also originally from Vana'diel, such as goblins, mamool'ja, qiqirn, gigas/giants, mammets (as PUP automata), voidsent demons (aka the aforementioned Kindred), the Omicronions (in shape, they were based on a 'puppet' enemy from FFXI) - even the tonberries being the warped survivors of Nym references FFXI where tonberries there were also the twisted survivors of an ancient civilization (the kuluu as it turns out). Hell, even the Echo sort of kind of had an FFXI equivelant in the Zilart's 'Whisper of the Soul'...
So it will be interesting to see how this new raid will handle FFXI's references, but I still believe it's not going to be taking us directly to Vana'diel, but just a Hydaelyn-based area that has FFXI-referenced locations, enemies and NPCs, because the game has already established Vana'diel is a seperate world.
We'll probably meet Prishe and maybe the other heroines (each FFXI expansion has its own "main character" NPC and it's always a girl). If they show us mithra and galkas that look at all different from miqo'te and roes then people will be clamoring for them to be made playable. Unless this whole raid is a tease for a FFXI remake, then maybe they could show them and say you gotta play XI for those races, but I doubt that.
You're blowing my mind, right now! I had no idea there were so many FFXI references I'd been blind to this whole time! I only knew about a few of these, for example the goblin design is literally ripped straight from XI. I remember doing that Shantotto event way back when, and obviously the "Shatotto" NPC in FFXIV's BLM quests is referencing her. Even Tataru's name is obviously meant as a reference to XI's "Tarutaru" race.
I don't think going back and playing FFXI is in the cards for me, but I think I'll at least look up a Let's Play series or something and get the gist of the story.
I was actually thinking, is it possible they'll add character customization options for those races to have traits that more resemble their FFXI counterparts... I think a lot of players would be interested in this, whether they played FFXI or not!
you have to beat Maat to even enter the 24man lol
Im not going to be hopeful about it but I do hope they think about sharing sub for FFXI and FFXIV and release FFXI on modern consoles.
Both very high doubts it will ever happen. Like pretty much impossible, but I can dream.
Stop me if you've heard any of these before. In XI you had a Goddess aligned with Light that had fights with a God aligned with Darkness that ended up with the Goddess imprisoning the other God in the moon which may or may not be in space. An ancient race that wants to kill everyone else so they can return to paradise. That most of the beastmen aren't actually bad just misunderstood.
Most of the five starter races of XIV are the exact same as the races found in XI. Just the male Roegadyn had tails and there was no female half. It's why Elezen have the awkward necks and the lalafell have the underchin/cheeks issue they talked about during EU fan fest.
As long as I don't have to eat a soup that not only knocks me out but ends up with me head-first in some bushes and he doesn't get to use my move sets plus that of monks then sure why not. Also as long as I don't have to see XI's Cid's teeth or the back of his pants. Don't want to give anyone nightmares or emotional scars.
lol Good old Maat! I really hope he is in the mix somewhere. I always remember how tough that battle was..all the farming beforehand and then I was so stressed I ran straight passed him and my camera angle went to shit but somehow I managed it 2nd try on Paladin. That was my highest job at the time. Lots of fun and memories.
I really would love to see the dancer's set brought in for aiming it is iconic and I wore my blue etoile set for years. I love the black mage outfit also Igqira Weskit Set. It would be lovely to see and I am really looking forward to the raid.
It's called Style Lock, and as long as you have the job leveled, you can style lock any of its unique gear onto other jobs.
Of course, this has lead some folks to style lock WHM robes while on DRK and such, and it's really rather tacky.
And there's an equal amount of folks who style lock the costumes, just like in XIV people glam the frog costume or the pig costume etc. But in XI it's like, a Bahamut outfit, a Mandragora outfit, and a Goblin outfit. There's also some basic bitch T shirts and jeans you can get now.
There's soooo much potential, but it's wasted. Some people don't even use style lock, which is weird, because it's an in game way that finally allows your character to not blink out of being targetable when they swap gear, without the use of third party tools, and this can be pivotal when you're with real people and the healer is trying to target you.

Really hoping it'll be an in-world version like Ivalice. Those raids felt like they made sense within the world of XIV, while Nier's existence felt very inorganic and nonsensical even for a crossover.
It'd be especially cool if they linked it back to Eureka and had the unused zone be incorporated into one of the raids.
I feel the exact opposite, I'd hate to just find some fake alternate Tavnazia on Hydaelyn somewhere and that's it. I don't know what making sense in the world of XIV is even supposed to mean post Shadowbringers, we've been to other worlds. We've been to Ultima Thule, the furthest-away place in existence. We should be able to go to a full-fledged Vana'diel, whether it's a shard or something else, and have it make as much sense as anywhere else we've been.
I hope they add a whole pile of orchestrion rolls for this crossover.
- Battalia Downs (my favorite song on the OST)
- Rolanberry Fields
- Selbina
- Heavens Tower
- Sanctuary of Zi'tah
No, theyve integrated the world of Ivalive pretty well and its extremely jarring and boring to have something that is completely disconnected from the game itself, like Nier.
Which is the reason a majority didnt care or like the Nier raid story. I want a version of Tavnazia or any of the kingdoms to exist or HAVE existed in the past of Etheirys.
It would make sense too considering the numerous calamities where various kingdoms and civilizations fell in all parts of the world. This is how they could tie a version of Vanadiel to have existed or heck be the first civilization to have rose up post Sundering in the Source and the birth of the races (sans Au Ra, Hroth and Viera lol)
I really can't understate how mad I'll be if they make Vana'diel a mere shard of Etheirys. It was around first, and has a better creation mythos with a TRUE goddess watching over it. Unlike Etheirys, which has a very troubled past.
But given how frequent the interdimensional travel and alternate timelines and things became in WoTG and beyond (Abysssea, Voidwatch, Seekers of Adoulin etc), it shouldn't be hard at all for us to slip through a dimensional crack and wind up in Vana'diel proper.
As far as major bosses go, the Caturae are a shoe in.
I could see them bringing in the real Provenance Watcher, and not the Eureka fake one.
Ark Angels would be cool, but the new races in XIV probably feel left out if they do use'em lol.
Shadowlord could be cool. Especially if it's some sorta XIV Dynamis version, since he did become the Dynamis Lord.
I want them to use Promyvions/Apollyon or Temenos, but if they do and don't use the Empty mobs... some of which they already made Fungus moon monsters in XIV... idk how they'll retell what those are in XI's context.
I can see them reusing Omega and Ultima from XI, as they look different enough to cause questions. Omega up on 3 legs be pretty scary!
They've already used some of the Archaia from ToAU in different spots in XIV. The Archaic Gears are from Omicrons. A Chariot was used in Alzadaal's Legacy as the second boss, but in XI, these were control clusters for Alexander's original body parts.
We're obviously getting Gulool Jaja referenced for a second time in XIV, and Medusa was already referenced. They have yet to pull in Gurfurlur the Menacing and the Trolls though.
They haven't given us Pandemonium Warden yet, not the Dvergr model from XI as far as I'm aware. We've gotten NMs named after some of the Dvergrs, but they have the model of the emo voidsent from Weeping City afair.
Iron Giants from XI would be another shoe in for bosses. Big and memorable and making NIN sub useless.
Promathia, XI's Shinryu, Lady Lilith, and the Spitewardens are also kind of candidates. But then that makes me wonder, because 24 mans usually have giant bosses, and Lilith and the Spitewardens are player sized.
Thinking along those lines, a buncha Voidwatch monsters are shoe ins. Though some of them have already been referenced, and some of them have even been relegated to dungeon trash mob lol.
So we really gotta turn towards Seekers of Adoulin's Wildskeeper reive monsters and then perhaps the Sinister Reign/Story mobs made larger.
It'll be interesting to me whatever they decide to do. But man am I worried they're just gonna cement me in bitterness and hatred if they fuck it up.
The problem I have with this approach is the fact that Iroha being sent here by Altana across dimensions and Shantotto coming on her own have already been established. It would be so weird having a version of Vana’diel like we have a version of Ivalice since we already had characters cross over from the original.
I also don’t see how our version of Ivalice isn’t jarring considering the timeline is backwards and they made a husband and wife as twins. FFXI revolves around Altana, Promathia, and their own version of Ancients and either having Vana’diel be a shard or pieces of it just randomly placed on empty sections of the map will mean entire parts of its story just aren’t possible anymore since they can’t exist in a world with Hydaelyn.
If they feel the need to do a Vana’diel raid, I’d rather it be the proper one than a knock-off since that’s the only way to do it justice. IIRC, one of the ideas behind Tanaka’s vision of 1.0 was for the two worlds to be loosely connected to each other anyway.
The reason its not jarring is because Dalmasca and the Zodiac Braves story was already established in ARR. The Imperial officer that greeted Nero in his first appearance claimed to be from Dalmasca in non-English versions (he says he's from Othard in our version) and the Zodiac Braves were used as the basis for the ARR relic weapons. Also they managed to establish the locations into Etheirys properly unlike Nier where theres no rhyme nor explanation for all the locales that we explore in those raids in Norvrandt. It doesnt matter if they altered parts of FFXII's Ivalice's history. What matters is if the lore is integrated into FFXIV world, just like how they've been doing it with 90% of this game's plot and world. It "feels" right.
Also the event quests have been all non-canon anyway, so we dont know if Iroha wandering in our world, or Shantotto warping to Etheirys is supposed to be in canon. Also there's already have been established connections of FFXI's lore into FFXIV that goes with the alt.Vana'diel take, such as the minions of Elvaan and Mithra explaining that they're potential ancestor races of the Elezen and Miqo'te and the Mhachi Black Mage Shatotto from the BLM questline (which is heavily implied to be FFXIV's version of Shantotto), or Raubahn and the Immortal Flames,Tenzen and Alzadaal's Legacy, etc etc etc They've been doing this so far with it.
Honestly, Im not gonna care too much if they connect the actual Vana'diel with Etheirys somehow (I kinda hope its not some lazy shard nonsense), as long as they do a better job at integrating it than how they tried with Nier, I'll be satisfied. I hope some of the FFXI writers are brought in for the raid story.
I'm worried they'll be too small to be seen in the effects mess of XIV, so the devs will have them all merge into a big albino gorilla wearing a hat or something.
https://i.imgur.com/N35H5nLm.jpg
That example isn't a very good one considering they had to backpedal that and retcon the lore in order to fit it in since "Dalmasca" was in the wrong place and invaded at the wrong time according to the lore book, so they had to invent a new city-state of "Nhalmasque" that got confused as being Dalmasca.
Otherwise Ivalice more or less worked because we already had a bad guy empire narrative just like FFXII. FFXI's story is heavily dependent on their own gods and their own ancients. It's one thing to replace the Archadian Empire with the Garlean Empire, but replacing Altana and Promathia with Hydaelyn and Zodiark, and the Zilart with the Ascians feels like a giant disservice to both games.
I don't think they can feasibly fit Vana'diel into Etheirys anyway since there's not exactly a place to shove in three more continents and the aesthetic doesn't exactly fit with the New World. I suppose they could randomly chuck them under the cloud cover over Ilsabard, but I'd rather Ilsabard be more creative than that and there's no evil expanding empire in Vana'diel either. The story just doesn't fit exactly into FFXIV unless you want to overwrite the important parts to justify shoving it in where it doesn't have to belong.
Again, you're ignoring how FFXIV does reference lore. It's never 1-to-1, they always recontextualize parts of older games and give it an alternate take; Like the Crystal Tower or Ivalice, or Venat and the Convocation, or Galuf and Krile etc. Numerous examples and bits of lore they've borrowed. FFXI isnt any different unless we're really trying to be purists (and really I understand where you're coming from). But for keeping the game world grounded, its preferable that they do what they have done with Vana'diel rather than completely alienating the world. I just seriously dont want another disaster like Nier.
First DPS check should a fight against Maat. Bonus points for having a mechanic that is 1v1 against your job with a specific win condition twist.
S'why I'm now thinking Atamos from the Walk of Echoes could be involved in some way.
that or shantotto or balamor, since those two can willingly world hop.Quote:
All memories and futures that are deemed "dispensable" by Atomos are devoured and deposited in this wasteland of memories and time, the world between the worlds: the Walk of Echoes. This realm beyond the Cavernous Maws contains numerous floating structures, walkways, and stairways suspended in an empty sky, with the true avatar of Atomos, a strange, fanged wormhole, situated overhead.
I liked this. They didn't just give us Tactics and XII again. They changed some things around and fit things into the lore of XIV in new ways. For me, it would be boring to just somehow magically go to the actual Vana'diel, especially given where we currently are nobody can travel among all the shards at will yet and we already did the "there was a portal" for Nier. That's also been the explanation for a lot of the temporary crossovers. It would be disappointing to see that explanation used again for another crossover alliance raid.
I'd be fine with it being a world-hopping situation than trying to turn a whole planet into a region, tbh.
That and XI has some things you fight in it that would need some explanations. Such as how in XI their Cloud of Darkness was practically the Endsinger but instead of singing a song of Oblivion and destroying all the planets it just took the Galactus route. Or how at the end of Seekers you fight and kill Hades. I stopped playing after Rhapsodies ended so I'm not knowledgeable on the most recent story that was added. I am with you in the please integrate this into XIV the same way Ivalice was and for it to make sense as to how or why we're fighting whomever or whatever we'll be fighting. As I've said before there's a lot of story beats from XI that XIV has also done in its own way that I'm having a hard time thinking of something. At the moment it feels more like it'd be something closer to what we got with Omega during the Sigma and Delta scape parts. Which was a mixed bag of success in being a positive response.
I haven't finished it quite yet, because it just got completed this year and I'm slow.
But it's basically something called World Eater Eggs are hatching incredibly powerful monster from before times, and I think it winds up being called Chaos, but I haven't seen if it's an FF1 reference or not (also I haven't see the specifics on if it's actually from the egg or not, there's a lot of details I don't know about).
It has loads of Blue Magic, is related to Odin and Valhalla somehow, and it can only be killed with a Prime weapon (new and final ultimate weapons that require a laborious daily grinding session in Sortie that get in the way of armor and other upgrades because they all cost the same currency you get from Sortie. They have the appearance of old relic weapons but in black).
