So you basically think new players should have to choose what part of the experience they get for the climax of the base story? That's not good at all. The current situation may not be perfect, but it's better than that
As always.. people forgetting what the rewards are for and suggesting negating their entire purpose for the sake of getting them faster. `
When 2.0 landed, I was lucky enough to be a Legacy player with a linkshell of twenty or so people (no free companies in 1.x) to run content with. So I ran Castrum and Praetorium with friends. None of us had done them before. It was absolutely epic, an amazing finale to the 2.0 msq. It makes me sad that the community is not interested - for the most part at least - in trying to recreate the epic feeling for new players. I remember being totally invested in the story and characters - hating Livia and Lahabrea and Gaius, desperate to save Thancred somehow. Everything that the story does up to that point to make you committed and engaged is completely undermined by the current experience. Even with the cutscenes non skippable, the fights are no longer any kind of epic. A new player is lucky to see even an nth of Ultima's menace
I really do wish they would turn these into solo instances. Send some of the Scions along to help if necessary. BRING THE EPIC BACK!
I remember my first Prae run, back when the cut scenes were skippable. I spent most of the run stuck in the first room because nobody bothered to tell the newbie to just hit the teleporter and not bother fighting. They ran through so fast that I actually got the instance timeout warning while watching Lahabrea's pre-fight speech. I had to run it a second time just to see what the hell actually happened. It was a terrible experience, and I'm glad nobody has to deal with that anymore.
You don't want to sit through the cut scenes? Too bad. The roulette's there to fill the duties for new players to get through required content. You're filler. Deal with it or do something else.
I started far later than you and that feeling does still exist, what has changed is most people cant be bothered to read. they think the run to end game is boring and should be awarded for buying the game. but dont worry, there are still people out there who are invested in the story, and giving Livia, Gaius and Lalablahblah was very satisfying to this day.
If you believe the story of FF14 is good, I can frankly tell you it’s not. You believe so do to nostalgia. I have played the entire story now, 95% done ShB. 5e entire story here is how I would rate it
ARR- 1/10. Boring fetch quests, with 0 redeeming qualities about it. Bad quests, bad bosses, no memorable of anything
ARR +- 3/10. Nothing of note outside of crystal tower, which itself is boring and a mmo trope. Forgettable
Heavensward: 6/10: slow pacing, no pay of, nidhogg is poorly written, amyric forgettable. Ugly boring frozen waste land
Storm blood 4.5/10 Nothing but dues ex machina villain, with no meaning, 2 split stories with 0 impact on world story
Shadow Bringers: 6.5/10: half expansion is boring, repetitive kill wardens, char arcs no cares about. Typical fantasy tropes.
There is nothing worth it in the story, don’t let nostalgia get in your way. The story is barely passable, a large portion of mmo players care not for it and want to skip it
I like how you say 'a large portion', when Yoshi-P has literally said they had received countless GM reports and complaints from people getting their experience ruined, to the point that the Devs thought it prudent to take action when they're widely known for taking forever to respond to things. That speaks volumes all by itself.
And their actions show your opinion is irrelevant. I know lots of people who love the story from ARR and would easily rate it 7+/10. I also know plenty of people who had their climatic experiences ruined by people not waiting for them in Prae/Cas. At the end of the day, story is subjective.
The devs side with those who want to experience the story, so Prae & Cas will never have a system put in place that allows skippable cutscenes ever until they're fully reworked. Full stop.
My first Prae run didn't have anyone rushing it because we didn't have a horrendous amount of ilvl overgearing back then so the boss fights actually required most if not all ppl to be there and for everyone to do mechanics. >.> lol
Maybe I shouldn't have said that cause it might give them the idea to set those to min ilvl only going forward so ppl can have a full proper experience for the duty... XD
My first experiences in msq roulette were also awful. I was harassed for watching cutscenes. I was accused of wanting to afk. I was left behind, lost and laughed at for it. I was very happy when I found out the cutscenes became unskippable. I don't want any sprout to go through what I did. Many people here need to realise that the cutscene change was done for sprouts, not veterans. Sprout experience does matter because a very bad experience in the game can cause someone to unsub.
Anyone who doesn't like how msq roulette is now can just not do it again after the one time they have to. It would be different if it was mandatory to do msq roulette at least once per lockout but that is not the case. You literally only ever have to do it once. If you do msq roulette and absolutely hate it you only have yourself to blame.
this is how i look at it. If they allows to skip &keep the same rewards if no one is new. However is someone is new then it will make you watch the cutscene however the rewards are doubled.
also didnt they mention they are going to change it or something?
do you even read what you reply to?
the level of trolls these days has seriously deteriorated. isnt there a school you can go to for improvement?
you hate the game so much and yet you are all over the forums trying to show how much you loathe the game and the players. we get it, you love WoW, you are only here because your idol is here. the rest of us are typically here for different reasons, better ones
I did not even mention WoW. I am just saying objectively the story in ff14 is not good. I played the majority of the mmos. Here is why…
1) story has no options that actually matter- old school and boring in 2021
2) your character has 0 growth- poor writing
3) you are a deus ex machina, every god bows to you for 0 reason
4) The charachter cast is arguably worthless but take your credit
5) Being hero is repetitive
6) No proper interaction with world - you have 0 impact
7) you got no agency, and your actions don’t match your intent
FF14 shines in an area where people don’t give it any credit. The best part of ff14 is it’s combat, which unfortunately does not get to shine because of the easy content.
I have enjoyed every savage and ultimate I have done… 10000X the msq. And no I am not a raider in WoW or other mmos.
Take my post objectively
1500 hours in swtor
1000 hours in eso
Casually played WoW in cata, legion, Wotlk [somewhere around 900 hours]
2000 hours in GW2 pvp
BnS: 1300 hours
Elsword: 950 hours
Wizard101: 3000 hours
Other mmos I forget: 6+ years of playing every failed mmos
I have a lot of things to compare to.
They are, when compared objectively to other games.
oh, as a point of reference for you for your future opinions.
An objective piece of information, needs either to be the whole truth and at least be unbiased or balanced, whereas a subjective point of view is biased because it is either not the complete picture or it is merely a viewpoint or expression of feelings.
what you post are your opinions, same as what I post. your opinions are inherently biased, therefore subjective, and you are not making an objective comparison by any means, since they are based on feelings and your viewpoint. I hope you can see what the difference is and that understanding aids you in not stating your opinions as "objective" and as such, superior to anyone else's ^^
1) If it had more options that matter, I would not like it. You cannot be objective on that. I think that in most games options are just annoying. And in an MMO where I spend thousands of hours on my character, I would hate it even more. In a single player game, if I am curious what happens if I select option B instead of option A, I can easily replay the game and try a different path.
2) Your character has growth, but you just don't notice it much because they don't speak.
3) I don't see how a deus ex machina means a bad story. Most games are like that anyways. And most manga/anime too. So it just makes sense...
4) Is it though? You mean because you are the deus ex machina and they don't help you killing gods most of the time? I don't think that's a problem. The NPCs are the reason why there is a story in the first place. We are the god killing machine, but a large portion of the story itself is built around the NPCs...
5) How does that relate to the quality of the story? It's not like there are no anti-hero/villains in the story...
6) How does that relate to the quality of the story?
7) That's pretty much the same as 1, isn't it?...
+ If you think people don't give credit to FF14's combat, you are wrong.
+ You personal experience doesn't make your opinion objective.
The real solution would be for them to remove the group aspect and just make them solo instances with maybe an 8-person trial at the end. But Hell they're never gonna do that. It is, by far, THE WORST dungeon design in the entire game. I mean, seriously? Literally 27 minutes of cutscenes. Literally. They have a huge MSQ level discrepancy between 46 and 49, and it's not long before 49 becomes 50. It's like they rushed the MSQ, tossed 40 minutes of story into 2 dungeons, and called it. Awful, just awful.
Actually, I think it is likely what they will be doing with it.
They said they will change Cape Westwind. I cannot imagine that they would change Cape Westwind without doing changes to Prae/CM.
+ they already said a while ago that a Prae/CM revamp was scheduled

Yoshi-P: "I do apologise but we will not be reworking these two dungeons just yet. We believe minor fixes to these dungeons are not feasible, and it will be necessary to either completely remake them as four-player dungeons or incorporate the Trust system so that they can be cleared on a solo basis.
Although we didn't have the costs reserved for the rework on this occasion, we do plan to work on them at some point. Please wait a little longer for this."
I mean, my young daughter has just started getting into more story based games (she was basically only Minecraft or animal crossing).
She isn’t old enough nor does she have the history in games to have anything to be nostalgic for, but she enjoys the game a lot. She accurately compared it to the genre of manga she likes to read. (Kimetsu no Yaiba/Fairy Tale/etc).
At the end of the day, I’m not asking for Shakespeare, or Spielberg, or even a drawn out James Cameron story. I’m perfectly satisfied with this Saturday Morning Cartoon level of story. I don’t want to have to keep a notebook to remember something that happened 6 months ago IRL in the patch cycle.
If I wanted something more complicated, I would play that game or watch that show instead.
I’m satisfied that FFXIV is exactly what is sells itself to be for me: casual, easy to get into/get out of fun.
Nah. No one would do them then and the tome amount is worth it.
Just make the cutscenes part of the experience.
Some my favorite runs of Praetorium have been teams of veterans just doing a MST3K routine the whole time.
It's always great when those get rolling. Some of my favorite comments:
-Nero likes to stick hammers to the roof of his workshop purely for the sake of dramatically dropping them. The magnets aren't always reliable, though. Gaius makes sure Nero has to write the letters home whenever some hapless tech gets randomly smooshed.
-Gaius didn't actually expect the party to get past Nero as easily as they did. The reason it takes him a minute to jump onto the elevator is because he was taking a nap and had to catch up. Then he makes a speech to give his legs time to finish waking up after that jump. He's just lucky the party's too polite to just run up and punt him off.
-Lahabrea knows how weak his fight is. He rambles on because he's hoping people will just fall asleep and forget to actually beat him up.
I used to try to do entire stand-up comedy routines if the party seemed receptive; I think my favorite was the time I managed to narrate the entire thing in the manner of a Sir David Attenborough nature documentary.
("Here we have an example of the Greater Crested Garlean, the leader of this particular flock, coming to confront the small group of the native Eorzean Adventurers who hope to chase this invasive species from their territory. Notice that the Garlean's plumage remains dark, a clear indication that he does not view the interlopers as a threat to his domain; were he to feel threatened, his plumage would become much brighter in an attempt to intimidate and frighten off the perceived threat." Etc.)
I’m not sure what any of that has to do with my post, but, I mean, you are certainly entitled to your opinion on things.
I enjoy the scions, and though I have my own critiques and ideas for improvement, the game is fine.
For me the game is doing exactly what I expect it to do, so I am satisfied.
Hot take. Don't remove the cutscenes or give the option to skip. Buff the mobs and bosses. In the four months I have played, only times I encountered toxicity was in my first run of Praetorium (from a mentor too) every sprouts first time in there they are just lost and confused, and left alone with out of context cut scenes and confusion. Buff the stuff in there so people cant just plow through it and they have to wait on the rest of their group.
How can you say with a straight face the story is objectively bad? I am a 38 year old grizzled biker who drives a truck and and ARR made me laugh, and cry. I remember the first real sense of panic in ARR, after we beat the primal, went back to the wasting sands and everything there was dark and a mess...Sheer panic.
If Heavensward was a movie, it would get an oscar. I can't tell you the roller coaster of emotions that story and those characters made me feel.
Stormblood, where I am now, everyone says is "the bad one"? So far I am having a blast. The graphics are better since dropping PS3 support then. So much voice acting on the other side of the world its great.
So please don't say anything about this game is objective, certainly not the story. You don't speak for me.
the poster you replied to is a misplaced troll from another game. their posts are generally meant to denigrate something they have little interest in being in, and have admitted they prefer ruining other peoples experiences for their own satisfaction. they are here only because a popular streamer is here. there is zero "objective" about anything they post unless it is to sow discord as an objective.
glad you are enjoying your time here ^^ enjoyment is what makes it a game after all
No just no skipping, this is the glue that binds us. Why is it so hard for people to help others in game. Sure there are bad apples but maybe just maybe if a person shows kindness or helps someone else that person may go on to pay it forward. Pay it forward people, I've done it in line at the store or drive thru at a fast food restaurant. It works it spreads and it is glorious.
The rewards for these duties are enhanced specifically for the need to view the cutscenes. Like many other have said (many, many times) if you do not want to see them do not queue for the duty.
