Yes, it is parent's job to supervise what their kids do. And it could go down like this:

-Kid asks parent for FFXIV
-Parent reads FFXIV is rated T for Alcohol Reference, Animated Blood, Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence.
-Parent decides he is ok with his kid playing such a game and buys him FFXIV
-Parent then goes to twitter and comes across a FFXIV NSFW screenshot
-Parent assumes game has NSFW content and makes angry call to Square Enix. Or worse, stirs other parents up and they contact the ESRB board

So is it ok for the depraved entertainment of some few that the whole game could be affected?

I don't think so.

“Online interactions are not rated” - one

Two - parent on twitter comes across this and does no other investigation is not a parent,

Three - this is again a failure of parenting, as it is an online game i assume other people are going to be present so what do i do? I sit and watch and spend time with my kid so i know what it is they are exposed to.

Four - SE is not at the whim of every random lawsuit people can think of. Dear god it’s called corporate protections, otherwise every company would have been sued into oblivion by now by people especially nowadays being “offended” blizzard would be dead, half of hollywood would be broke, fox news would be bankrupt, as would every other news network, cd projekt red would be in lawsuit hell.

So if i go out there and molest a teenager even if said teen looked like she/he was 18...can i also tell the judge then that it's the parents fault?

Players who erp don't ask for identification nor any proof that the other side is in fact an adult. These people are the problem. People using a game that is also for children as a tinder substitute.

ERP and mods aren't bad. The people which are using them/providing them in the way they do are. Cause they aren't checked or controlled by anyone. It's like a stripclub having no bouncer, hey minors get in. ID card? What is an ID card?

We need another calamity

It is slightly disheartening how some equate these NSFW mods with role-play - they have nothing to do with role-play but they have a lot to do with ERP.

Please do not put genuine role-play and ERP in the same basket.

This is at least the 4th or 5th time I’ve seen the whole “eRP is acceptable because online interactions aren’t rated!” / “kids shouldn’t play this game that is clearly rated for them!”

Players clearly have unlawful contact to minors ingame. Not saying every erp fan i a predator, that would be far fetched. But this general lack of interest in what you are ducking there atm is really concerning in my opinion.

It's your obligation as a ERP roleplayer to check who is about to recieve your digital sausages. And to think that people would justify a literal crime just so they can duck in the future without having to check the persons age first is...phew...mental gymnastics...

I started watching Asmons stream yesterday when he was in the middle of this interview and I was kinda taken aback by it.

I don't really mind mods too much cuz you know, I don't see them. It's on the modders pc, not mine. But like many in here wrote before, it's the brazen attitude of modders shoving their NSFW screenshots in peoples faces that I'm not really fond of. Not everyone wants to see this sort of stuff. If you like it, that's fine - but don't assume everybody else wants to see it, too.

The girl Asmon spoke to seemed like such a kind of person, I got the feeling she was really enjoying all the attention she got. That she did the modding community as a whole a big disservice by doing this interview in the way she did, didn't seem to bother her at all. In fact she even said that modding should never be spoken about in such a manner but did it anyways...:confused:

Then they showed two relatively tame but still very kinky modded screenshots on stream, and that's where I thought "okay, he could really get in trouble for this now". People were banned for saying and doing stuff on stream before.
Same thing when they talked about the payment-situation. I don't think SE would be glad to know that people make so much money by lewding their gamefiles.

Could be I'm just overthinking this but I wonder if this will have consequences, seeing how much attention Asmon and his streams are getting at the moment.

Reading through this entire thread I am just gunna point out that not everyone who ERP's is grooming minors or some dirty sleazy nonce. Most of the folks I know are over 18 and communicate fully with people :/

Yeah there will always be those creeps and they should get called out underage mods and erp is disgusting and has no place in the game, but it is unfair to throw all those that ERP or use lewd mods under the bus.

As much as I agree it would benefit from a higher rating, there's certain things, which Theodric mentioned, which are off bounds no matter what that rating is. This sort of thing creates a terrible image for the game, and that is on top of the utter creepiness of said things.

Pick a target/community.
Go through all the worst comments, individuals and instances, even if said community is actively kicking, banning, silencing and discouraging them and in general does not condone said behaviour.

They'll address it the way they always do. Turn a blind eye until something crosses the line, then ban hammer it. In this case if NSFW or anything illegal that was screenshotted in game is posted anywhere online, they've made it clear they will ban your account. Which is fair.

Otherwise it's a non-issue and nothing to do with me, so I'd rather they spend their energy actually tackling bots for once.

The other stuff is story narrative, thats not player intent.

Intent to mod depiction of minors with lewd etcc in mind is actually against the law, thats how law works.

Well, as I suggested earlier, a file check on start up. Also GMs have access to all ingame chat logs.

A streamer that sensationalizes everything under the sun for financial profit interviewed a modder? Um, who cares? If we are going to remove mods I say we just take an axe to all of them including ACT, Gpose, and the FFXIV launcher. Time to get to work kids.

As for me, I don't involve myself with the RP community, I'm apathetic toward the modders and I'm a bit 'meh' about raiding at the moment.

Of course, I'm starting to transition toward playing Gw2 more until Endwalkers and female Hrothgars drop - so I'm a bit more dethatched at this point.

I'll make sure to avoid and travel quickly through Ul'dah. I wish they could just do this over /tell, linkshell, or their homes or apartments. I don't want to be seeing this stuff to be honest.

Mods have been around for ages across all sorts of games and genres, and there's a considerable sized community for it. Some MMOs have even embraced that sort of thing; to some extent (like The Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2 with its officially supported addons). People are free to do as they please as long as it doesn't hurt anyone involved. Streamers and the media will always try to make a big deal out of these things, and it's best to just ignore it. It's not like all mods are bad, since the majority is still relatively SFW with a big focus on cosmetics and client-side fixes or QoL features.

Anyway, people acting lewd and out of line is something that would happen with or without these sort of things... I used to play TERA a lot back in the day. The game had chat moderation and the sorts, plus not a hint of a modding community by any means. Sexual harassment and blatant displays of public ERP happened all the time (even by people who just wanted to be edgy about it).

They did that in WoW, they could do that here as well.

In my opinion, NSFW mods are not different than lewd fanart. Both may take a lot of time and talent to finish. ERP is not very different, it just misses the visuals.

I dunno, I wouldnt make a big deal about polygons.

But to be honest, I would totally love if SE would make some additions or changes in the character creation. You can barely create a ugly character, because of the limitations. But it would be nice to stand out a bit more by having additional options.
