I was surprised when the door stop started talking.

Only been for a year so I still don't feel that bad, generally speaking I have friends that we end up joking about races and watch some fun videos.
One of the first videos in relation of lalafell jokes was Denmo's Introducing, Lalafell which is something that I still end up rewatching.
Maybe another year and I'll be tired lol
Still, with strangers always need to be careful with words in general
I’d like to think teasing is different from actual harassment. Because asking a lalafell, “do you need a step stool to hit the boss?” Is much different then accusing someone of being a pedo.
If someone asks me to stop, I always stop. I’m not going to go around making false reports and accusing people of criminal acts that’ll land them in federal prison.
Feel free to block me or ask me to stop if it offends you or you get annoyed by my bad jokes. Or even report me which will result in nothing as I am not breaking the TOS compared to the examples you listed.
I personally enjoy making bad puns and my IRL and in-game friends like to groan whenever I make a pun. I'm cringe, I understand that, that's just my personality. I still don't understand how making cringe jokes equates to being harassment. I make bad joke against Elezen, Miqote, Lalafell ETC as well. I'm not going to take this to heart because my cringe jokes (they are 100% cringe) usually entertains people enough in Praetorium to receive multiple commendations as a DPS.
I've been doing this for nearly a decade and when someone gets offended or uncomfortable, I stop and move on to someone else in the group. I don't sit there for the entire run making constant jokes, even if they aren't offended. I make 1 or 2 jokes and move on. I really don't understand how people can upvote others saying I don't have any friends and my behavior is harassment and I will get banned. Am I cringe? Yes I am. Do I need to grow up from these childish jokes? Probably. I try my best to make original lalafell cringe jokes, I try my best in being original when making bad jokes.
Anyway, this is my last post for a very long time. I don't enjoy being on the forums where people can send personal insults without repercussions. I'm cringe and make bad jokes, I know that. I've never received this kind of vitriol in game. I was told by dozens of people in my FC to not go to the forums because of the toxicity, now I really understand why.
Just generally speaking I think it's pretty shitty to comment on other peoples characters because you have no clue how they'll take and interpret it.
It's another thing if it's someone you know, like I often call the character of someone I know a potatoe and it's fine because he knows I am joking and isn't offended.
But it's the same thing as with how people dress irl or even how they mog their characters in the game.
Maybe just keep your opinion on it to yourself unless you know the person?
It's just kinda douchey behaviour imo to run around throwing jabs at people like that.
I don't really like people just throwing sexual comments at me for example, and I've had people before at the start of dungeons or running up to me and making lewd comments about my character and I don't really like it and I've left groups before because I told them to stop and they continued.
If it's someone I know then it's different, but when it's some random person I have no clue what their intent is or what goes through their mind as they do it so it's totally different.
I know someone who does erotic art too and he recently commented about how he didn't like people making perverted comments about his art and some in his audience lost their shit.
But the truth is I think that a lot of people don't like this stuff unless you '' know their heart '' for a lack of a better term.
Like are you making those comments because you're a shitty person or not?
Is it actually a joke or?
I think it should just be assumed that it's unwanted unless it's made more clear that it isn't.
It doesn't have to be something extreme like a consent form lol.
But just try to read signals.
I've come to realize that there actually are a lot of people who unironically believe that being blonde makes you stupid.
A lot of people actually do believe these stereotypes.
It's always strange to me too because only like 4-5% of people in the US are blonde and that's where this stereotype seem to have come from and is the most pervasive same thing with how the '' stereotypical white person '' in the US is described as blonde and blue-eyed when it couldn't be further from the average.
But it's definitely how people see it still even if it doesn't line up with reality.
I do think that stereotypes are harmless for the most part in individual cases, the problem becomes when they become ingrained and I do think people begin to believe them uncritically.
Partly because a lot of people probably want to believe them too for a variety of different reasons.
Like the Russian thing for example there's a lot of antagonism between NA, the EU and Russia so portraying Russians that way is pretty appealing to a lot of people in NA and EU.
This is harassment, please report them as this isn't a joke. This is disgusting behavior.
This is a perfect example of people not understanding a light hearted joke VS. actual harassment. This is why, I will never return to the forums people can't tell the difference. I had the page open and I regret it and can't stop myself from commenting. Thank god for GM's who can actually look at conversations.
I agree with you but the problem is that a lot of people don't see it as harassment and it being harassment also depends on context and pov.
From our pov it might be harassment but to a lot of the people making those comments it's '' just a joke '' or they think it's a compliment.
I actually would take it as a light-hearted joke too if I knew the person which is kinda my point, because the context of it changes when I know where they're coming from.
I am not actually offended by sexual comments or sexualized content quite the opposite.
But it stops being fun if there are bad motives/ intent and I can't know that unless I know the person at some level and that makes me uneasy.
And I think it's the same with Lalafell comments for example.
If you make a comment about it to a Lalafell player they won't inherently know where you're coming from and if it actually is '' just '' a joke or not.
And if it's not then it could be seen as harassment.
People should never sexualize you, that is offensive. Please be offended and report that. That is a lot different then me asking an Elezen to grab something off the top shelf during a dungeon as a joke. People are forgetting what is acceptable as a joke, and what is seriously harassment that should get you banned. What you or me feel should be seen as harassment is unimportant, report that to a GM and they will administer justice.
God, I really want to stop commenting here. I have a sickness, where I want to explain myself and talk to people as human beings.
Unless you're not offended by being sexualized then it's not offensive.
And you can be fine with being sexualized by one person but not the other.
In fact I'd say that's how most people work it's about autonomy and personal boundaries.
I don't think that it's unimportant because whether something is or isn't harassment is going to depend on how you interpret and feel about something too.
I mean are you saying that if one is totally fine with having someone lewd their character that it it's still harassment if they lewd their character?
It's no longer harassment at that point because they're fine with it.
Harassment is unwanted behaviour towards you particularly when it's repeated.
So yes if you start making jokes about an Elezen player being tall and they tell you to stop and you keep going and it's making them uncomfortable that's harassment.
I don't think that you should be getting banned for the initial joke tho it's the repeated and deliberate thing that you should be getting banned for if that's the case.
Edit: There are ofc degrees to this, I do think that there is a difference between a tall joke and perverted comments I am not saying that there aren't.
You really don't want to understand it, huh?
I REALLY DON'T WANT ANYONE TO GET THEIR ACCOUNT SUSPENDED FOR JOKES. BUT IF YOU JOKE TOO MUCH TOWARDS THE WRONG PEOPLE THEY MIGHT HIT THE REPORT BUTTON AND SEND YOUR ACCOUNT INTO THE DIGITAL OBLIVION!
You should get banned =/= You can get banned
I was merely telling people that they can get punished for this stuff if they push it too far which let us be fair many people do on a daily base. Just cause i tell you you can get punished for it cause rules doesn't mean i want that to happen. I just tell people that it is a risk and they might wake up someday with a not so neat email and their account being suspended.
Dunno if that is worth the joke but it's something everyone has to decide for their own. And it's not like SE just slaps people on the wirst and gives them a three days ban and that's it. The account if you get reported will be marked for lifetime and that means the next offenses might cause a termination of your account. Again that is nothing i want for other players since a joke, which you clearly don't understand since idk how often i wrote i don't want anyone to get banned for this, but it's a potential risk you take.
What harassment is and what a joke lies in the eye of the other party. And it seems you fail to understand this simple fact. Some people might be alright with hearing the same joke thousand times a day. Some might not be alright with that. Some might like a whisper telling them how delicious they look, i kinda don't like tall folk with a vore fetish on lalafell but everyone has their own kinks. And if you like to eat lalafell i mean sure, good for you, it's not what i would call a vanilla fetish but...yeah...
Gosh feels like i am talking to a vaulthry which is tripping on meol.
I committed crimes by making bad jokes according to you. I hope you can be specific and tell me exactly what was offensive.
You should leave the moderation to the actual GM's, that's just my opinion though.
Both the EU and NA have trolls. What you are doing is pretending to be the law instead of admitting you are part of the problem.
1. There is a reason why the sentence was written with quotation marks. It's a analogy. Let's say you call a Elezen everyday a giraffe/dhamel. Let's say this is against the chat rules, just for this moment let us say it's not allowed. And people are alright with that joke, don't care. You never get "catched for your crime" basically. But that doesn't mean that someday someone might not take offense in stuff you say and report you. As i said it's a risk people should be aware of which leads to...
2. Telling people about the rules isn't moderation. I can tell you that you aren't allowed to drink hard alcohol in public and still not report you to the next cop. Some people actually appreciate to learn about the rules of the world they live in, especially cause SE don't really promotes these rules which leads to many people thinking that they are safe spamming holy in the hub and then getting banned for it. And yes i know a player personally which got banned for this. What you ask for is literally "Let the children put their finger into the power outlet, yeah they might die but they will learn it themself.". Which in my opinion is the most unsocial thing ever, how can you literally not care about people and tell them that they might risk their account?
3. Both NA and EU have trolls. 100%. Never denied that. Not at all. But there are reasons why EU is closer to JP culture than to NA. Just visit a hub on EU and on NA and on JP and look at the shout chat and you know exactly what i am talking about. I don't say that NA culture is wrong, not at all. Your absolute freedom of speech and that stuff and how every speech should be tolerated can be also good. Doesn't mean the game bends to these rules tho. SE makes the rules and it's a japanese company and thus stays in a bit of conflict with the culture of trolling and shitposting, which i said is also ok. But you play by the house rules not by your countries standards of "say whatever you want".
Who exactly here was talking about you? Not sure why you seem to take everyone's bad lala experiences like you're personally responsible. My point was just that there's a lot of animosity towards lala players. I don't personally like the teasing either. I don't know you and I sure don't want the first comment from a stranger to be them teasing me for playing a race they like to joke about, no matter how lighthearted it is. I think it all contributes to the animosity towards lalas and people shouldn't stand for it. I'm not going to get you banned for it, but keep the jokes to you and your friends and you'll have no worries of people reporting you. There's a lot of races I don't like in the game and I sure as hell don't go publicly berating them.
I pet and hug lalafells. Hrothgar too <3
tbh not a fan of lalafell at all used to be one and don't plan to ever go back to one. It's like being a child during a war lol
I say far worse things to those literal cultists.
Context matters so yes while maybe to one GM it would be seen as a violation of the rules the truth is based off wording alone a GM could find many actions as a violation based off their interruption and understanding of the situation.
End of the day context behind the comment should always be taken into consideration. Though I do get how this might not sit well within todays climate. SE already provides people the tools to avoid further incidents when it comes to such things. Sure we migjt have outliers and that is when harsher action must be taken but a simple off color or not PC joke that can easily be sloved with black listing seems like a waste of GM time imo.
I don't tease lalfell.
I eat them.
The potato's? All the time. Was almost thinking about making one since they got the best emotes.
I'm not going to go up to a rando and do it, but if they're your friend or you have a rapport with them, then it should be fine. But there are some people that are still sensitive about it even if you're close to them. Just mind how they feel, apologize if you do something wrong, and hopefully things can be forgiven.
Though your friend sounds uptight.
I think you need to be careful making certain kinds of jokes, especially around people you don't know. Even though you have good intentions, all the person on the other end gets is text with no tone of voice or mood. They only know some random stranger decided to single them out and make them the center of attention, which can be uncomfortable or intimidating even when they know it's a joke. I can certainly imagine them thinking "Why is this person making fun of my character?" And if you keep it up with multiple comments throughout the dungeon, that can naturally evolve into "What is this person's problem with me!?"
Most of the time you're probably fine, but you never know where people are coming from. Like somebody else said earlier in the thread, they had experienced legit harassment about their lala character before, so they're not likely to respond well to even a good-natured joke. In fact, they may not respond, period. It's a sad fact of reality, but something to consider.
That's cute, and I wouldn't be bothered by that on my miqo'te, but I can sort of see why this would weird someone out. Like, "is this going to be a thing the whole time?" Who knows, maybe they are woman who has a lot of pervy men make comments about their appearance in real life, or has a boss who touches them inappropriately. Nothing to do with you, but who knows what they have going on.
Last time I did Praetorium the tank called out during a cutscene "Who's the sexy elf in white!?" (I was wearing the Dalmascan top, so I guess I was "asking for it" or something) Then he went on later to say he wants me to be his healer all the time, and... it was weird. What he didn't know is that I'm a man IRL, so that just made it really funny to me, but I definitely get why random strangers commenting about your appearance can be uncomfortable.
That's fantastic! I love that. It's more about you and what you're doing, than making a comment about the character that the player might take the wrong way. If I can make a suggestion, maybe try jokes that are more incidental, or observational about the situation, or even at your own expense? This can be harder to do, but at least it clearly shows you're just being funny while not putting someone else in the hot seat. For example, maybe while I'm on my miqo'te character and I accidentally get caught in a big fire AoE I might say "Does anyone else smell burnt cat fur?"
Anyway, sorry you've gotten a lot of flak in this thread. You clearly mean well, and sound like a fun person to play with.
Only one I mess with is my FC leader who is a lala by saying wee little ankle bitter because of a joke they started way back in ARR.
People tease me all the time. If I had a single gil for every time someone related my character to food, I'd be a gillionaire. Jokes are jokes to me, and I REALLY don't find the food jokes funny. At all. Those jokes are boring, overdone, run dry, not imaginative, uninspired, pointless, lackluster, and, I might even add, a little dumb. I've had people treat my character like a human child, which is downright weird. Don't do that, please. Not only does it you look weird, it makes me feel weird, and it unsettles everyone around.
Having said that, I answer most teases with teasing of my own. Careful, I'll dish it right back!
It’s a tired joke that’s a little bit irritating since it’s typically made at our expense. I’m not offended. I’m just annoyed at the same joke being lobbed at me for the 100th time.
I just ignore it and avoid the person making it. And the reason behind the avoidance is because they’re bound to repeat it again, and again, and again and again.
The amount of times in voice chat on Discord when someone tried to joke about ‘eating me’ or ‘punting me’ as a grown woman had me responding with dead silence.
It’s boring. Can y’all do something new? Say something fresh?

Says female Au Ra #1,483,015,465,013! Sup, short, fleshy and kawaii? Don't you wish SE went with the "ara ara" concept instead of cutesy maid material 2.0?!

...I wish they did, gosh darn it, it would've been awesome :(
That feeling when people play a meme race and get annoyed with the memes.
We are jokes if ya do not like it just avoid the person making the joke.
The fact that someone can sit here and type out essay-length posts about how making a tongue-in-cheek joke about a player-race in a video game is harassment/reportable is really, really sad.
Please take a deep breath, step away from the game and maybe spend some time outside.
I have no idea why I’d tease them simply for being a lalafell. It doesn’t seem funny to me, and usually jokes like that are lacking very much in originality. Recipe for cringy moments, esp between strangers. Personally I find lalafell amazing, if I ever roll an alt they’ll be one.
i don't tease i would just /pet , they are too cute .
but i met some sick people when i was playing as a lala that would just kick me out of duty just for playing the race .. it just shocked me that some humans with brains think or act like that ..
/petting and emoting fun/banter in instances in general, I'm all for it, but when it comes to those types of jokes, I don't like them personally. It only ever comes off snarky. Like if someone says "Oh no, a lalafell" it reads kind of like they don't want me there, which sucks. I know it's probably not that, but it just comes across that way to me. Different people perceive things in different ways, and I don't think it's unreasonable to be not-good at taking those sayings as jokes. That's my two cents on it, anyway :v
the problem is not that someone is making these jokes. the problem is that it feels as if like 90% of all people aremaking these jokes. it is all over the place all these jokes and memes wherever you come and look... i dont even know why its supposed to be funny. even if nobody means these jokes with bad intentions the amount of these things are so massive... its bothersome.
i have an lalafell alt and while i dont really care about tve memes and jokes (dragoons kinda have the same life in a smaller scale) i dont understand at all why people think its funny to call a lala potato. i know of people who changed to another race because all the jokes tore on there nerves day for day for years
Twice I have had one smack me on the bum. They are at the right height to get up to mischief.
If by tease you mean give out HQ cookies, milk and pat on the head, then yes.
I enjoy the memes but I let lalafell players play in peace. :p
It is, depending on the quantity, tho a reportable offense. No matter if we all here think it's just a silly joke. If you push it too far and someone (no matter the race or whatever) reports you for it someday you might face some punishment.
At the end of the day it doesn't bother me too much. I can handle jokes. I shrug people off who call me names or other things. But not everyone stays that calm about it. And it just needs a couple ones out of thousands to report you.
To me, the fact that people can sit here and promote stuff that might, depending on the quantity, get their account terminated is something that is really sad to me.
It just needs one person who hits the report button and a gm with no sense of humor to send your account into virtual oblivion, if that's a risk you want to take is for yourself to decide.
