There's a big difference between the game mentioning the existence of something as part of the story narrative and having players participate in that activity.

I can't recall where the game had us engage in prostitution or sexual acts for the purpose of the narrative.

Have you reported them for doing it? Have other players reported them for doing it?

The game and GM staff can't monitor everything every player does online. Things will get missed if no one reports it.

That does not matter. That's just SE trying to protect itself, when someone does something wrong. It does not mean SE won't crack down or a government won't start investigations into players if something happens.

It's not my responsibility to come up with a plan for people to ERP properly, since I don't ERP. Getting to know people and who they are on a natural level is a possibility.

The mentions of lust and the adult jokes in cartoons are about the same level. They are obvious to adults.

Doesn't matter if we're engaging in the act.
If its illegal in some countries then it shouldn't be shown at all.
Because if your case is brothels are illegal and break the Tos, then the characters that are prostitutes also break the ToS and shouldn't be shown in game.
You know whats also illegal? Sex slaves, and you visually see it too...in the FIRST dungeon.
I can get way more extreme but you get my point.

You can't just cherry pick to whatever suits your narrative.

Little does everyone know it's actually every world that isn't Balmung. If you look at Crystal's PF, it's mostly Malboro and other worlds that should have been cut off to nu-Aether.

This is why I would like for there to be a way to report with less hassle in game. Or add a category for it down the list. Call it my OCD, but I like for my reports to be very neat and categorized to the letter.

I report inappropriate player names and search info all the time. Guarantee you they have to have it changed. Party Finders are not an exception just because they play around with wording to not include a direct swear. "Hot Ala Mhigan escorts" is terrible enough.

Okay. How is that different from people putting up "18+ only?" It's the same exact concept. The brothels are protecting themselves, in case something goes wrong. Why are there no complaints about the players who use PF to sell runs? I humored myself just now and inquired to a couple of them. It's definitely RMT. That's against the TOS too, yet I see the same names for months on end. And most of those people aren't in league with the gilsellers, these are actual players who have geared themselves to be able to do that.

Not something that can easily be done in the short time many of these places are open, usually only around four hours from what I've seen. Even if we were somehow allowed to ask for ID and they gave it, it doesn't mean it's real or even theirs. The next step would be to make people go physically find those people, take their ID, look for any signs of fakery or tampering, run them against the database that has that info, background checks, etc. How far down this hole would you like to go? Because it's going to happen whether it's advertised or not.

The only thing that punishing these people is going to do is make them find cute ways to describe it, or ways around banned words, like the gilsellers do.

The players are the ones engaging in the conduct with the minors, not SE. That does not protect them. RMT is a problem, and I report the advertisers all the time. ERP with a minor is worse. Even if you had 0% chance of getting caught, do you think it is moral to advertise it to people (where minors scan see it), especially when you don't have an answer to weeding out minors?

ERP events? Why would you run an erp event with people you don't know? That is asking for trouble. Both for the minor reason and potential drama reasons.

Yep. I see them for other servers wayyyy more often that aren't Mateus and Balmung. It was surprising to me, too. lol But sometimes the truth is indeed stranger than fiction.

It's probable that the very active Quicksand community on Balmung makes it less necessary to use the PF to find like-minded people than other servers. I don't know if Mateus has the same local community as Balmung, but I do know that a large number of RP-centric people migrated from Balmung to Mateus during the server reshuffle so people on that server would likely be more aware of Balmung's local community than other servers and just make use of world visit.

There's really no way to 'solve' that. Most the RP community operates out of the game when organizing events and there really isn't anything SE can do about it. Likewise when it happens most people who ERP publically have the good sense to do it over DMs and/or move to a secluded location so accidentally posting into 'say' won't be of any consequence. Unless people are actively reporting each other for the content of what they're posting to each other making a solution is a wash. Which is part of the reason SE has to disavow ownership of online interactions.

Personally I'm not a fan of ERP for multiple reasons but as far as trying to find a proper solution the best SE can really do without relying on the players themselves is to keep events off of PF. They simply do not have the time more man power to comb through logs.

This is probably the best solution. Whatever people do in the privacy of their own whatevers is their business. If something questionable happens hopefully the right authorities are notified. I just don't feel like anyone needs to see it being promoted or encouraged through the PF, and that is where the problem lies with most people. No more PF listings? No more problem...for the most part. It would benefit SE to put that much more distance between themselves and a potential problem.

Nowadays teenagers don't insult people, don't watch porn, don't glam their character with some sexy/naked outfit, don't drink, don't smoke, don't talk about 18+ subjects noooo they don't, omg a PF with a 18+ sign? What a shaaaaame!

You seem to be missing the point of all of this. People just don't want to see PF listings related to ERP. Pretty much it. I don't think that's unreasonable.

And we can see some people who sell some raids, some RMT, random subjects (sometimes it's even fun), some characters who are looking for a husband or a wife etc etc welcome to MMORPG world it's not new at all and specific to FF14.

SE can't control that, just ignore the things you don't like, you know you will meet lots of diffrent kind of persons when you play online don't you?

I don't like the glam of a player?, i ignore, someone is spamming an emote? i go away or BL him/her, etc etc here it's the same, you don't like the subject of a PF, just ignore and don't go into it, problem solved.

How can you survive guys irl seriously if you overeact like this just for a subject in a PF.

If anyone is overreacting here, it's you. I'm not overreacting. Heck, I'm not even triggered by these things, but I do see them as a potential problem for SE. Some people want them gone entirely, and I don't think that's unreasonable either. In fact, I think that'd probably be the best solution for SE itself, so I can't help but agree. I can do all of that without being triggered or overreacting. :)

Actually, this is incorrect. So long as the person reasonably believes the person they are interacting with is at the age of content, they can avoid any charges. Admittedly, I wasn't certain of this myself but googling around I found several articles. Bear in mind, this is Facebook and actual people involved not avatars in a fantasy world. I can't imagine ERP would go anywhere, legally speaking. Which is rather scary to think about.

Needless to say, this only makes parents being aware of what their children or teenagers are doing that much more important.

I don't overreact either and i don't know why you feel targeted by what i have written it wasn't for you in particular @Valhnir.

But by reading some comments in this topic i just have the feeling that certain people lives in a bubble.

I know that language, and you're not original for using it. It's the most hands in the air, "but I didn't do/say anything wrong" kind of tone used by people looking to antagonize and then pry a wedge into any aggressive words the other person might use to turn it against them while also being passive aggressive.

Reminds me of that episode of South Park where trolling was explained.

I remember back when I was like 9 and playing on Neopets, I posted in the forums if there was any other 9 year olds around I could be friends with (which, looking back, was kind of Cringe) and swiftly got perma-banned because they thought I was some crusty old guy preying on kids. Both the people hosting the game (SE in this case) and the players (us, obviously) need to make sure we don't endanger minors in that way and also do our best to protect others from it being done to them.

The idea of not ERPing with a stranger seems pretty self-explanatory. I don't know what it's like because I don't do it myself, but you have to wonder who's on the other side of it. And if you don't, well...

People keep saying "online actions not rated by the ESRB" or whatever as if it means they're totally in the clear to engage with anyone they want in a sexual manner which is a bit gross if you ask me.

It's our jobs as adults to protect minors. Period. There really isn't any way to argue against that. Maybe their parents are lazy, or bad, or whatever, but that just means we have to pick up the slack. Have compassion, please.

Crystal hasn't been a good quarantine, Aether and Primal PF are just disgusting now.

Unfortunately, having been on Crystal since its inception, there's plenty of awful people here too. I think it all really depends on what you consider 'disgusting' or 'degenerates'. I've encountered people saying things beyond just sexually inappropriate (see: slurs, other hate speech, etc.). Crystal isn't just full of Tumblr-dwelling RPers. I'm sure each data center just has its own flavor of awful.

I'm well aware as I have been here since Crystal was created as well. But if people can't take the time to walk out of Ul'dah or Limsa and see past a level 1 cat girl, then I don't know what else to tell you other than make another crafter/gather bot woes thread for Aether and Primal and add that to the pile too.

It's not and i haven't said that in this way. I understand the idea of the topic and i agree with it on paper but in reality it's not viable.

I said i had this feeling cause by playing a game online you can't expect the company behind it change/control certain features in every aspects for each player point of view.

Imo, once again the responsible are the parents of the children who are exposed, i don't understand how those parents can buy this kind of game to their child without checking what this game offers.

We can see 18+ subjects everywhere all the time, at TV, in magazines, in the street, on internet, we know it, so why can we expect from SE this kind of measure?

FF14 isn't a free to play so those children have to pay each month, so their parents have to pay and they do it without knowing why? Blame them cause we all know how is the human nature and its dangers, especially in our actual society and with all of those communication means, social networks etc.

And if they can play, they have for most of them a total access of internet, so i don't think the fact they can see some ERP or 18+ subjects in a PF is the most dangerous thing they will be confronted with.....

We have to be responsible of our children not a company.
