This whole thing just screams "petty" to me. To see anything that bad you have to literally go out of your way to find it, and if you're doing that then you've got no support from me.

Just like you took offense to my generalization of you; thus you tasted your own medicine.
There you go again calling out the moderators. They have all the evidence they need here as to why they ban you, it's not because it's shady it's because you engage on personal attacks and general off topic spam.
Yes, care to make a thread about gossip so we can talk about your obsession with gossip instead of going off topic?Quote:
Who are you, the texture patrol?
So I'm offended because I asked for the source of your generalization? Ok. If you had given me proof of your claim that male hyurs acted like simps then I would have no complaints.
Apparently you didn't understand the gist of my thread about moderation. It's shady because of instead of warning people or closing down an unproductive thread they just simply suspend or ban people. Doesn't matter how much evidence they have against someone, everyone deserves a chance to correct their actions.
I'm going off topic because I'm addressing you about your accusations about people name calling. And when have I ever engaged in personal attacks? If you have the evidence of such wrongdoings then report me and you'll never have to hear from me again.
Honestly, I find making a thread about this issue fairly petty. There are poor textures in the game, sure—but unless you go really out of your way to look for them or play with your camera zoomed all the way in, it’s unlikely you’ll actually notice them to the point that they are as egregious as claimed.
HD texture packs would be lovely, but the developers have already stated that they have no plans for it due to the amount of time and resources it would take to actually upscale the textures for this game (they currently only have one texture, and it’s the one we all see—no textures for anything are scaled to HD at this time), and I actually understand this reasoning. Plus, they cater to the lowest common denominator when it comes to game optimization, and right now that is low-end PCs. Not even the PS4 or the PS4 Pro, the latter of which can handle 4K, if I’m not mistaken. Eventually the PS4 will show more of its age, but I think what holds them back are people who play on computers not exactly built for MMOs (i.e., toasters).
As for the aside about the completely unrelated thread—if you are that interested in what happened, OP, perhaps you should go read it instead of just assuming what it was about. It was honestly a well-needed thread, and a topic that appears on this forum from time to time (well within reason, too).
It's a request, apparently they are definitely able to fix things that go against their design philosophy. The grass quality was fixed because someone pointed out how low quality the game's grass was.
I don't have to give you proof about anything not related to the textures in FFXIV. If you want to talk about gossip then that's on you.
It's evident you don't understand why the moderators/community managers do what they do when you decide to spam and take topics off topic.
I really don't understand the flak the OP is getting for this. The example provided legitimately does look really bad and it's not like it can only be seen from some OOB area that was clearly never meant to be traversed.
People have stirred up the pot here way more with regard to much less, graphics-wise.
*sigh* I swear you're doing this on purpose.
I'm not talking about gossip, just your claims that people are calling you names. Obviously I don't understand why the moderators do what they do, otherwise I wouldn't have made a thread about it.
So to bring this whole farce of a conversation back on topic: the texture in an area where no-one will ever visit or the large majority of players will never notice is fine. Adding needless textures in zones like that causes unnecessary strain when loading areas. It's the same reason why most models are just hollow shells and one of the reasons, or so I've heard, that 1.0 failed. Because everything was needlessly over textured and it caused all kinds of rendering problems for people.
You finally turned off the gossip channel.
I don't think you understand what you're talking about. Bringing bad sectors to the same level of detail as the rest of the environment has a negligible effect on processing. The major reason why they had to do things like this was because of 32bit OS memory limitations, not because CPUs will explode if they replace bad textures from the game.
When it comes to art and design there's no "this is more important than that" statements, it's subjective. It all falls on the devs to evaluate (re-evaluate) their design standards. With the game dropping 32bit OS support this is a great chance for them to re-evaluate some of the worst visuals of the game.
It is when it’s been stated in the past that the development team is already short-staffed—I believe Yoshida has already given the reasoning for why they don’t implement some things as “we don’t have the manpower for it”. I’d rather them focus on the newer content and improving things like job balance (probably a pipe dream, but one can wish) than going back right now and fixing obscure textures. Maybe when the game enters XI’s mode of maintenance, but right now I prefer focus on the upcoming expac and patches.
Look at any modern 3D video game from the last 10 years and you'll see the same thing across the board: anything that isn't directly interactable in the environment or extreme background like your image is low polly or just a simple flat image. This so the dev team doesn't have to waste time with extra work and like I said, to not put a strain on some systems. Just because your CPU/GPU might not explode from the extra burden of needless textures doesn't mean other's won't.
I never said otherwise. I merely repeated what Yoshida has said. I have enough criticisms about how the game can be handled, but I feel more keen to listen to him on concerns of staffing compared to a forum poster. On the topic of the forums, NA Forums actually don’t see a lot of activity or input from the developers or community mods. I hear they are more active on the JP forums, so perhaps it is a language thing. I’m sure they read some of the threads, but they probably pay attention to the ones that are fairly large and egregious (like Housing, for example).
I feel like you’re seriously underestimating the time it would take for them to go back and make textures for every thing you find unsatisfactory. I don’t think that this is a large enough complaint to really get priority over other things at this time. Not when there are other complaints that more people find concerning and that probably need to be seriously addressed—like the Housing system or healer balance, to give two hot topics right now.
I personally don’t care either. HD Textures would be nice, but I can play the game just fine as it is. The random low resolution trees or rocks in the far distance don’t bother me even at 2K.
Bleh, posting limits.
You also don’t seem to understand that not everyone plays on enthusiast-tier PCs. I may have a fairly beefy PC, but that doesn’t mean that everyone does. Some play with just enough to get them by and not with PCs that can run 4K, 144 FPS, with Max settings. For a while, I played on a laptop. Before that, PS4. And before that, PS3. I have friends who have played on toaster computers but don’t care enough to “optimize” the game graphics to invest in something stronger (or just simply cannot afford it due to other financial responsibilities tying up funds).
The point is, is that the developers optimize the game around those who do not have The Best PC. They can slowly let lower end things go in the future, but I think there are far more pressing things that need to be addressed compared to rocks or trees that people zoom by and barely spare a glance to. If they upgrade any textures, make it character model/gear textures. I think people would care more about those than this tree tbh.
Do you realize that these environment design choices have everything to do with 32bit OS limitations (computers people bought before 2008) and not about today's computers? The ps3 specifically held 2.0 areas back because it virtually had no RAM in it. You're not really understanding the hardware that today's gamers are using.
Nothing's stopping you from advocating for those issues you think they should work on.
I feel the game's quality should be upped to the standard they have already set. Some textures/locations could use patching up.
Zoom far enough in to anything, in any game, and it'll look like complete dog poop. You're trying way too hard for such a non issue when there are far more pressing things this game needs.
You can only speak for your own hardware, not other's. They want as many people as they can to play the game so it needs to be able to run on as many systems as possible. Before I upgraded my GPU I had to use my on-board graphics which, while the game ran fine, it still struggled at times.
"on-board graphics"
That's on you, they're not debugging the game at all for anyone using on-board graphics.
Try again what? You seriously need to relax, this isn't a competition.
I believe and support Hien getting his clothes design patterns fixed.
Then why are you pushing so hard for a freaking tree of all things to, and I quote "be fixed ASAP". Random rarely seen tree #436 is much less of a priority than an outfit people literally have to pay extra to obtain.
At this point I'm just convinced that you're a massive troll who can't deal with people who disagree with you. Just like in your AR roulette thread.
There you go getting emotional and angry, that's not healthy.
just because you disagree with someone's request doesn't mean that the topic's not valid. As for Hien's outfit, you choose to pay if you want his clothes or not; moreover, this isn't a competition about which texture they need to fix first, Hien's clothes should be fixed; you should definitely be making a thread about if.
Troll? You should look at yourself in the mirror with that statement
They don't debug for on-board graphics systems.
What's wrong with using on-board graphics if it still runs the game? The whole point is they want to optimise it as best they can so people can run it on the most basic machines. Why do you think WoW looks the way it does? So even people with potato PCs can enjoy it and they get more subscribers. I don't understand why you assume that everyone has or needs to have a mega PC to play this?
If you look closely enough, the Mona Lisa isn't nothing other that a bunch of colored paint pieces. How can you call it art? Unacceptable.
I've literally never seen that area in my life and if you took me there it would probably be 10 minutes of confusion with you pointing at it saying "right there!" and me being like "I literally can't see it". I've played this game since the beta and I've never seen that.
Like who cares. Who really cares besides one person. Background textures are of lower quality to save on resources. It's in literally every game that's had 3D modeling. And as an MMO, it's already got a lot to load and whatnot, so corners get cut to make it run better. This isn't rocket science, OP.
Have you ever looked up close at a screen or anything printed on paper, possibly with a magnifying glass? That looks like garbage too. Guess we should all just die, since real life is unplayable.
if y'all scrape the bottom of the pre expansion bitching barrel, you wont have anything left to bitch about when the game launches.
...wait thats a good thing. carry on.
I zoomed in on my thumb on a microscope and it looked like a bunch of tiny blobs. Somebody needs to update my textures.
It's a tree that is out of bounds for crying out loud you can't get past those rocks unless you glitch past them somehow. Stop crying about something that doesn't really matter due to where it is.
Occlusion culling does not have any effect, I have it disabled by default.

To me, the only thing worth fixing is the damn awful AA used in this game. The shimmering is so distracting.
After being OOB in several regions, the "ground" is just a flat grassy texture that's more akin to blobs, trees are 2D and are the sky box underside.
It's meant to fill in the blank spots not look like real life where there's something anywhere, and Yoshi P has gone on record talking about how a problem with 1.0 is that they were focusing on making every detail perfect when really- it has to be "good enough" and then move on. That random spec of land fits the good enough criteria and if you're going through the MSQ or anything on field- you will not notice. You really shouldn't notice. Only people looking for internet fights will notice.
Internet fight? What are you on about?
As for "good enough," that's subjective when the same background exists in other places with better quality.
Yes, FXAA is the worst when it comes to AA solutions. You don't want to glamour glasses/shades on your character or you'll be looking at ants crawling around your face.
I've seen worse. We should be happy with what we have. It's a mmo too, not a single player.
Our characters can blink eyes and we see shadows. I'm very happy with the texture and maybe we'll get better, or not.
Let's just be grateful.
I was in the area OP mentioned earlier today and was playing around with different camera angles. You almost literally have to be right next to that space and move your camera to look upwards to even notice it. Or actively search for it. I kind of see what it's supposed to be, the forest continuing in the background instead of a single tree, and I think they just goofed and just didn't make it large enough to fill the skybox properly.
Here's what it looks like when you're just passing by:

It pretty much blends with everything else when you don't see the edges. But you literally have to be right next to it to see the edges and that area is incredibly easy to go past and not even notice.
Yes zoom out as much as possible on a potato of a computer
