That is my current plan, yes. Leveling to 23-25 and then go to Pagos. I'm not so sure what to do there then yet, so any advice for new Pagos dweller would be welcome.

Expect Pagos to be much slower paced than Anemos, Bunny Fates are a nice way to fill in time between NM spawns. While Bunny Fates don't give much xp compared to NMs, they respawn much faster and you have a chance to pick up some nice items.
When sneaking past sleeping dragons without a mount, make sure to send fairies/egis away since dragon will aggro them right away.
Don't sweat it if you can't make it to NMs in the northern part of the map before lvl 30, it's a long dangerous trek up there from the south of the map.
Well i can tell you what I do. As a really low level you do very little damage and get very little if any experience in a group. I will camp at a location called Igloo which is where an nm spawns with that name on one of the elevated ridges which puts me in range of nm spawns east and west. I do that when i have a return handy so if a lower level NM spawns you can use return and use the aether at Icepoint to get to the 21 aether and go to the nm from there. If I don't have a return I would recommend camping at the ridge just north of the northern bunny fate and wait for nm spawns. If you're not north when nm's spawn north you won't get to them in time. There is a shortcut drop down at the bunny fate location that lets you drop down near the 21 aether and you can go to the nm's from there.
It's all about positioning at first in my opinion until you get the 30 and 32 aether and then life becomes easy. I've leveled quite a few alts there and that's what I would do. A major buff is coming next week I suspect so Pagos should be a lot faster/easier but getting north I suspect will still be an issue if you're starting from Icepoint.
Once you get higher level you can help prep NM's and you will get much of your challenge log done by doing that especially if you're level 29 and above.
If you're proactive when you hit 34/35 you can farm light doing Anuby's, Dragon Farms or Forge Farms which yield light which converts to Frosted Crystals for which you will need 31. NM's give you the crystals you need.
Good luck.
I liked it too. BF and I had fun doing it together :)
Then you were helping in the train. So you weren't getting rewarded for nothing as you said before. As for people dragging mobs, that's not really a fault of Eureka itself. It's the players' fault. And furthermore, it's the fault of your party members for getting aggro from these random mobs in the first place (I'm assuming you're already in a party, since that's the most efficient way to get gold in NM fates). Since you're a healer, you'll get their aggro if you healed them and most likely get the highest enmity and end up dead. As a DPS myself, I never use AOEs during an NM fight. So I myself never had to deal with people dragging mobs nor did I burden my healers with that when they heal me. But again, that's the issue with the players, not the content (just like early pullers in hunts and the chaos you still see at Odin fate). When it comes to rendering mobs, nothing really can be done about it due to the game engine itself.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Eureka is a perfect content and has to be added to 5.0. It has issues that if fixed would make it even a lot more better. Such as it being an instanced content, no level syncing, no quests in the zone, and Pagos (The logos system was a great addition). But when we talk about RNG and grind being the issue of why Eureka is bad. Then ARR and HW relic should be considered the worst content, since they were riddled with those in their steps. The RNG in Anemos is what you get from lockboxes, the amount of protean crystals you get from Anemos crystals (3-5) and NM spawn rate (which isn't really bad). As for Pyros it's almost the same RNG but with the extra substat one. Which isn't really bad considering you can easily get an OP weapon that can surpass the raid 405 if these substats can carry on in Hydatos with not really much of an effort (Currently my RDM weapon has 575 crit and 65 DH, which I'm leaving at that till Hydatos). As for the grind part, getting through Anemos in 3 days (I'm not a hardcore grinder. People were already reaching level 18 in day one) and through Pyros in 5 days (first day, I was busy doing my weekly alphascape raids) is hardly a grind compared to some steps in previous relic quests (I'm not talking about Pagos. The grind and RNG were horrible).
The dev team did mention that Pagos was already completed before they can even include any feedback from Anemos. So it wasn't made with that intention according to them lol.
I am glad you liked it, really I do.
However, I did not. I could pass Anemos because the loot was not covered under a mountain of RNG and there was actual motion throughout the area.
Pagos was a nightmare. The place, the relic, the cold-warped lockboxes, the bunnies, all of it was more of a punishment for actually wanting to partake of the content.
As for Pyros, I got to level 41 and just stopped. Pagos outright ruined any notion that the content could improve and I was right.
The nail on the coffin is this: this is content marked for death so making anything and everything artificially difficult to obtain due to mountains of RMG is outright ludicrous.
Please, no more of this, in any form, come Shadowbringers.
Loved it! At least Aenemos anyway. From the few minutes I was in Pagos it was a ghost town. Unlike Aenemos, where it was a lot like Guild Wars 2, just one big festival concert, like Woodstock. And FATEs are like mosh pits (with the boss/adds being the "band"), just a big 'ol mass of bodies slashing/punching/piercing/mage-ing/shooting. And if you get knocked down, someone always picks you up again. The community at its finest here.
Reading some of the comments here i just want to make clear:
They said in an Interview, that Pagos was already done when Anemos was released.
No feedback from Anemos (player or dev sided) was implemented in Pagos!
They did not punish the players for the train. Pagos just wasn´t balanced with the train in mind.
I although think, that pagos was the worst part; just wanted everyone to know this facts.
THANK YOU.
I'm so tired of reading this all over again.
Although, there is a choice regardless of that because in Pagos, NM will nevertheless give you less XP and the amount of Pagos crystal needed is high (I believe they said it would be nerfed in 4.5 though). So it combines this lack of feed back and also the need for a slower-paced relic step.
I liked Eureka as well actually. That's the first instance where I really felt like playing a MMORPG, because you need player interaction, coordination... There has been some salt in the Shout chat, but that's also the place where I had the most fun with random people. Sure it had a lot of flaws on its beginings but now it's far more enjoyable and even if I completed the two weapons I main, I still hop in from time to time.
That does not mean I want more content like this one in the next expansion though. But Eureka improves on the Diadem, and a 5.0 area improving on Eureka could be interesting somehow... just don't lock the relic there and you'll see less people yelling at it everywhere :D
Currently stuck in Pagos. Took me at least 2-3 hours each time trying to find 3-4 people to do challenge logs with. Then I need to go through the logs which takes time too because there’s going to be level descrepencies between players. It’s a nightmare and not one you can break up into 1h sessions either. You need to sit down and plan at least 3-4h straight in game to get anything done.
NM train is hardely an option as well since they spawn way too infrequently and the aetherites are so high level that the NMs are usually dead (or you are) before you can even get to them.
Gating relic weapons behind content that turns stale once the majority of the crowd have rolled over it is horrible HORRIBLE design. And this is coming from someone who actually enjoys this kind of content.
So disgusted by the pain it’s caused I just gave up. If i still care enough about the game when relics catch up to current BiS then I might try my hand at it again. If not I’ll give it a shot when it’s fully nerfed for glam if there’s anything I like enough.
(Double post) and to answer that. I’m 28. Not going back to anemos. Unless you mean there’s a way to cheese the challenge log but I thought it was level gated?
This is a good thread
Yeah ive enjoyed all of Eureka to be honest. its made doing the relic really enjoyable this time. So far my favorite is definitely Pyros. I cant wait for Hydatos. The memes born in Pyros have also been very entertaining. Having an empty instance is just as benificial as having a full one too. if people were more supportive of this content wed get an even better version in 5.0. Honestly if they go back to the old ways in 5.0 I'd abandon the relic outright. This has been really fun for me. I want to do 2 more relics here soon.
Also enjoyed it! I didnt find it hard at all. Sure it took time but I found the climb up pretty rewarding tbh. Back when people gave up and went away I was casually completing my relic and got to Pyros pretty early. I dont go hardcore on it, just 2 hrs a day maybe 4 a week and Im keepin up pretty well. been enjoying shout chat in Pyros too. Cant wait for Hydatos
I agree that Anemos was the best so far. The area is gorgeous compared to Pagos/Pyros. The tornados/crazy trees/plants in the water make this area my favorite by a long shot. Really hope Hydratos brings some creativity that we saw in Anemos.
I have a lot of fun running Eureka. My most hated part was the light grinding not being shared by the whole party, but being RNG for each and every party member. That really demoralized a lot of my party members in Pagos. But overall, Eureka is the only content people are chatting in anymore. Like someone said before me, most of the people i see in game do MSQ and decorate their houses and barely touch any content in this game, but we dont see people yelling at houses for not being interesting.
So while this content is not for everyone, i see TONS of people engaging with it and I think the outrage online is a bit exaggerated.
Why would you do challenge in Pagos. Much easier to do challenge in Anemos given it's level synced and there are tons of groups there doing challenge. Doing challenge on tuesday reset is when there are the most people in zone getting their logs done. Challenge is somewhat easier in Pagos once you've hit 29/30 and do NM prep. Prepping Louhi will get you your ashkins as well when you are high enough. It's not all about level other than getting the aethers and a mount but then you still have to get the cyrstals and the frosteds.
My earlier post outlines what I do when leveling my toons in Pagos and I have 8 characters and they are all in Pyros at the moment. Obviously the content isn't for everyone but Pagos requires knowing how to position yourself for NM's and doing NM prep where possible to keep busy and be productive. Anyone trying to run North with the types of mobs there which are all high level and motion sensitive with sleeping dragons will not allow you to get to northern NM's because people won't wait for you.
Relative to the poplution in the zones they all seem to be still very well populated. There are still may 50's there doing multiple weapons. Weekends seem to be the best times and late evenings. I get conflicting reports about whether the nerf is 4.5 or 4.55, guess we'll find out for sure with the patch notes next week.
You're not the only one lol. And not only that, I'm tired of hearing about Eureka is bad because it's filled with grind and RNG and prefer ARR and HW relic quests. It's like people forgot about Atma, luminous crystals and light grind + the horrible RNG in some of those. The RNG needed to get the relic in Erueka is really not bad at all (Pagos not included lol). If we're gonna talk about the other items' RNG from bunny fates and NM boss drops for 6th magicite, then those are optional items and not needed for the relic, since a lot has been saying if it wasn't for the relic, they wouldn't have done this.
If we want the content to get better, we should identify issues that can drastically improve on the content. Just shouting RNG and grind is not gonna work because let's face it..There will always be grind and RNG in MMOs and there are people who like to grind like that (I don't, but just take a look at EX farm parties). For me personally I narrowed down the issues to four points:
1- Being an instanced zone: You can't do anything else while being there. And I get why they had to do that, but it would be nice if they can make it an open world map.
2- No level syncing: This would help a lot of new players wanting to group up with others but can't now due to the level gap and impact on EXP gain (This is probably the biggest reason why some can't find a party as they said in this thread).
3- No extra stuff to do in the zone, such as quests or points for exploration of dangerous zones
4- Losing EXP when dying: If there was no penalty in dying you'd see more people out there and exploring instead of just parking near aetherytes cuz it's safer.
Some jobs might have a hard time, that's why you might need a litlle help for those. But yes, when I go as a RDM, I can kill those easily, and even lvl21 Wind sprites.
They probably also forget that, when released, the dungeon items for the Zodiac were not guaranteed. So you basically ran full dungeons for nothing.
Personally, I'd go for a "handicap" sytem like in The World Ends With you. So, basically, by reducing your level, you'd increase what you "drop", wether it's crystals, lights, logos shards, etc...So, not only would you have benevolont people helping low level friends, but even strangers could party with you since it wouldn't completely hinder their personal progression either.
I think the exp penalty is a big part of why Eureka connects people. No one wants to lose Xp, that's why they're willing to run around raising you expecting you to do the same for them. Without it, people would simply ignore you. And on top of that, giving an Xp penalty even when raised (About 1/10th of what you would lose by recalling) would also make less people simply AFK in the zone and pay more attention to some boss mechanics, while still being easily recoverable.
A totally different experience (even from Diadem) from what we used to see in game.
Eureka is a land where the rules are differents and that's why I find this concept very interesting.
Every zone is different and each sucessive zone add something else to the previous one.
The danger is real. It's not about learning a 5-10 min and predicable dance the only difficulty thing we see in game.
It's learning how the world of Eureka is working, how each zone is working. And with all that knowledge, we can cross all the lands and progress of the best (minimize risk, maximize efficacity) possible maneer.
We have to take in mind that :
- Dying without raise is a penalty so it's adding tension and stress when we explore.
- Escape can be hard, and if you fall during aggro you die (it's apply outside of Eureka too but it's very less impactful)
- There are different types of aggro mobs
- There is no mount until later levels
- The use of the magicites and logos to act better depending of the situation
- All the tips and tricks to discover and learn about doing the relic, xp faster and grab some loots.
The maps are well done and beautiful (special mention to Anemos).
We can feel the unity and cooperative aspect between the players (talk, tips, raise).
For me, it's the only content which change the essence to how you play FFXIV, and it's really refreshing (since Pagos for me, Anemos was too simple and less interesting).
I usually do everything in this game and raiding very often (and did all savage/ultimate) and I like that.
But Eureka is a type of content I didn't expect to love so much
I think with Hydatos, I will have nearly the same playtime in raid (in Stormblood) and in Eureka.
I don't think it's perfect and I don't want to see the same exact copy of Eureka for the next expansion.
But, I really hope SE could take that essence, and do a different content with several activities to do and several things to take into account (for example, begin with something like Pyros intead of Anemos would bring a lot more diversities at the start).
Came back to the game about 3 weeks ago from a fairly long break after 4.1, me and alot of my guild just got burnt completely out by the endless repeating daily, weekly instances after 3 whole expansions of them non-stop.
Have to say Eureka is actually good in my eyes, still not through it all but in my opinion what the game needed. I actually enjoy doing this more then other stuff in game right now. It is something fundamentally different then the endless log in do your daily expert, do you weekly savage raid, do a new primal for a few weeks. (rinse and repeat). Still honestly not a huge fan of Fate/Notorius Monster Zergs... I wish they would move away from the whole zone being able to kill single targets.
Is it perfect? far from it, but this alternative to the game should be continued in my opinion.
Would be nice to see something like this keep evolving a become a whole new form of progression along side the mainstream stuff though. Those who like the old progression could simply do that as they are now, those who want the other have the option. Each rewarding equivalent gear to one another. Only issue I am seeing now is the rewards from Eureka are subpar compared to token/raid gear, and the delays made it come out too late.
That sounds like a good idea. It should also not impact the EXP gain for low level players as it does now when chaining for mobs. So I should rephrase my point there as that there is no incentive for high level players to help low level players except if they were their friends or paid them in gil (I read somewhere that someone was giving people a ride on their two seat mount for gil lol).
I like Dark souls games lol. So I enjoy the risk associated with making bad decisions or mistakes. But judging from the amount of casual players vs hardcore players in FFXIV player base, I know they would find that aspect to be annoying. BUT! maybe if they removed the deleveling aspect, it would give players who are not afraid of losing EXP to go out more and help those who are about to. So a level 50 player in Pyros wouldn't have an issue going out to help a level 45 at 90% of their bar to 46. So that can keep people working together while not being very punishing for those at max level.
I liked it as well. has its issues of course as you said. And I appreciate that they are trying new things even though that led to lots of intense discussion about the topic.
I've personally had some of the most fun in eureka specifically in the first week or 2. there is always this rush of excitement and the struggle to kill the ever increasing in difficulty nm's as you lvl is an adrenaline rush. Also it has led to some of the more adventure moments where you or a small group of people have to brave the wilderness together to get to an aetheryte or quest spot, truly the closest I have felt to really being an "adventurer" And honestly I still have fun logging into the zones, just sorta can be a chill grind here and there.
yea I like that and I agree. I also enjoy dark souls and I think that the key difference is that you can't actually lose a lvl you just lose the exp to gain more lvls, you also have a possibility of getting that exp back. I think that the risk aspect is good but the delvling is just a bummer and it ends up making players less likely to help each other, and just in general more frustrated with the content.
I wish Eureka had a PF system. It would kind of ruin the nostalgic lfg spam I guess but it would have made it easier to coordinate things if you knew who was where, if people were prepping something, etc.
And even now, XP penalty is not that bad, once you're in Pyros you lose roughly 20% of your current level EXP bar, which you gain back in two fates as Pyros gives you XP like crazy (plus reflect farm on sprites etc.) I think the penalty was there to force a sense of cooperation when discovering the concept of Eureka back in Anemos, which was kind of ok, but unnecessary now.
