Does extra space and the ability to sell more items give someone an advantage in game? If yes then it's pay to win.

Extra space that you're paying $5/month for when you could pay $2/month and hire an additional retainer which would give twice the amount of what that $5 saddlebag gives you.
As for the item advantage, people live in different time zones already and one person could jack the prices of a particular item much lower than what they should sell for while the other person is sleeping. Should we start calling multiple timezones a pay-to-win advantage now and start blaming other people for being awake when others are sleeping? Come on, guys.
It's a definite cash grab as someone else said, but it's not pay-to-win. This is greed, plain and simple really.
So something only has value if you think it has value, and if you don't think it has value, people are idiots for buying it. Gotcha.
inb4 "That's not what I said"
It's exactly what you said lol. Just phrase it different.
This i'm not arguing. It is a cash grab for sure - but running around screaming PAY TO WIN is plain stupid imho. Pay to Win would be idk pay €100 and get all top gear or something (not that would even matter in this endgame formula).
No cause gil is useless in this game. If we gonna go with a dumb logic like that, then we been pay to win for years with retainer service. Where have you been screaming and making threads about that?
No, I do not believe this app is pay to win what so ever. I think it's wrong on SE end but truth is I, as a dedicated crafter been looking forward to this app for years. I will never buy any coins but I have considered premium plan just for the inventory spaace from an extra retainer and saddlebag. I had hoped it wouldn't consume a nut to change prices on market board but I have NO PROBLEM that they are having selling behind a paywall.
While I don't agree with Hamada ranting, she is kinda right. The app is pretty useless unless you pay for it and it is money grabbing. Money grabbing more out of it playerbase and then turning around and putting that money else where and not back into XIV to make it better.
Blizzard offer their app totally free. You can use their chat, you can use the auction hall to sell and pick up your money, all that good stuff. Though before I left, Blizzard took down the auction part of it but they did say something about a new app coming that would be a lot better, so don't quote me on this, I'm going back to when it was used able and open to everyone for FREE.
You're right, it not a pay to win. I don't know where Hamada even comes up with that theory but, it is stupid regardless. Retainers are $2 a pop on mog station. Just buy two retainers and it still cheaper then the $5 a month, you just don't get a saddlebag. Big deal? Saddlebag doesn't sell things on MB for me anyway but them two retainers that I'm paying $4 for will and their far more useful in the long run.
The app should've been made free, all around. There shouldn't have been anything to pay for. We already pay a sub and that should be good enough imho.
There HAVE been complaints about the extra retainers for years. You must have missed them or ignored them since they don't suit your narrative. As for gil being completely useless I disagree. Gil allows for the purchase of materials, transportation, housing, mounts, gearing up alt jobs via crafted sets, ect. If you're a heavy omni-crafter the extra space is practically mandantory. Regardless if you don't like it or not the text book definition of pay to win is if something that you buy with real money gives you an in-game advantage that IS pay to win.
Then there is the thread floating around on the main page asking for gil to be converted to Crysta. If that happened you could then convert gil to Crysta and buy game time with gil. That is a jack in the box I hope is never opened.
It has nowhere been close to any complains about this app though. Not even compareable in voices or volume of threads, salt or posts. My narrative? lol cause we (clearly) disagree on what is pay to win?
..So what do I win? I can in store more items? I can list, in theory 20 more items than you? Oookey.
Then you must have seen my opinion on that subject I assume. (Hint. I don't want it).
Apart from housing, there is nothing to sink your gil into. If you were in my position where you own multible houses, have everything capped, craft for enjoyment and have multiple 100s of Mil gil. It pretty useless.
Inb4 someone (or you) complain why I even craft when I have plenty of Gil - Same reason someone like Ash10 have capped Gil on multible characters, we find enjoyment in crafting.
Yeah this app is mostly definitely a cash grab, I never had any intention of using it for anything other than chatting anyway! But even the one thing I want it for? It's not even useful for that! The way they described it implied (to me) that I would be able to engage in the in-game FC chat with my entire FC that was currently logged in! Instead it only allows you to talk to people that also have the app and create group chats. For that we may as well just keep using discord! It has more features and it's free on top of that. I wanted to be able to talk to all of my FC including the ones that don't have discord with the app but alas, that's not the case. I messed with it for maybe 10 minutes and immediately deleted it off my phone.
I am still quite annoyed that the inventory space (retainer and saddlebag) is possible if you pay them but otherwise its somehow not..all these many retainers that you can pay for and we still dont have another free one..Also two kupo nuts as a maxium for the free version feels like a joke. (I am not even going to talk about the mog coins..)
All this time and money that was put behind the app which will probably only be usefull for certain people..all of this could have been put into ingame content.
In the end the biggest MMO on the market can give their players an app that is completely free and with quite the functions..yet SE puts a paywall for retainer management in this (and for space) and on top of that microtransactions..I think that this is quite telling.
I was well aware before hand that they were going to try and charge just to use the MB part of it. Stupid, just beyond stupid, but I had hoped they'd change their stance on being money grabbers and make the app free. Trust me, it didn't get my hopes up or become a let down when it released having to pay to use everything. MB was the only thing I cared about with the app so yeah, it all good, get to keep space on my phone! :D
Okay, saddlebags might not be, but the retainers definitely are. More retainers mean you get more slots to sell items. More slots to sell items means you can get into many more markets. More markets mean more gil. You also have the luxury of being able to fail or not profit from being in certain markets since you have footholds in other to make up for it, which someone with only 2 retainers don't have the benefit of doing, meaning they have to be more cautious in their investments.
Just cause it isn't battle content, doesn't mean that you aren't getting an advantage over others. Yes, gil is almost useless, but it's the principal that's the main concern, not the end result.
Does anyone know why I can't see the app in the google play store, one of my friends said the app was live but I don''t see it anywhere.
So tell me, what will I do with all this Pay to Winned gil?
This whole argument its pay to win is so funny to me. Allow me...
- I have more saddlebag space = P2W
- I can sell (in theory) and gather materials (after leveling said retainer up, not taking into account i can buy a Lv skip for € on Mogstation) = P2W
- I can (in theory) get more gil quicker than someone who don't have premium plan = P2W.
Jesus christ...
Most likely it not supported by your device, then it won't show up.

Exactly but the thing here is, I really did not want to go down what is a pay to win debate since what I saw from the past, each side is not going to convince the other. I really like it if statements like "with a dumb logic like that" be left out, since I can easily turn around and say the same thing for the counter argument.
My main point I want to focus on, especially with yoshi-P posting in this thread is to validate all these fees. Where I stand, the game should be over funded off the sub fee alone. The mog station is overpriced, the retainers is overpriced, the app fee is over priced, the microtransactions is just a cash grab at this point. Why... WHY does this game has so many fees when the quality is not there? It is not the players fault the game is more expensive to run because they do not want to address the 1.0 code this game is built on. I really would loved to see this all explained outside "we will release the app soon".
Because it most likely out of Yoshidas control or decision to make the app in the first place. It probably higher ups pulling the strings, unless it common with this sort of schemes in japanese culture in a sub based MMO - I know it not too uncommon in all korean F2P games.
You know what's going to happen. People will either accept what the app is and pay for premium (whether it's voluntery or no choice), or not enough players will sub to it and SE will have no choice but to take drastic action. Additional space should not be locked behind extra costs (unless it's a retainer) as everyone has been crying for more inventory for a long time, yet we get a saddlebag that is no good in instances....
I really hope SE pay attention to all the feedback they are getting about the app.
I'm not accepting it. I will not pay nor use an app that I have to pay for when companies like Blizzard allow such things to be free to use by it player base.
And here a tip: the only way any of us are going to stop this is by talking with our wallets. We stop paying (and I mean everything, don't mean just this overpriced app), they start thinking (maybe... -deleted the rest before the ban hammer landed on my head-).
So who here is going to stop paying for their sub so SE get the hint?
Yeah didn't think so.
And thus, SE wins and still get their money and still keep making stupid things like this app just to grab more money out of the player base to put into other SE title games.
Edit - But to actually answer your question and I think you know the answer as well, there no point in speaking up these days. Just like with the housing situation, pagos, and everything else in between, it feels like a BIG waste of time. They aren't listening! We don't seem like valued costumers to SE. We try to get their attention here, we try on reddit, we try on twitter, we get met with nothing but feeling like we talk to a brick wall. And there only so much yelling the player base can do before they finally just throw their hands up and walk off and that what SE wants. It their way, or the highway, simple as that.
cause youre phone is not supported, just like my wifes... you may try install the apk directly,...
I google it and this is what I came up, not sure if that the position your thinking of.

Some thoughts..
1. Chat only with other app users is severe limitation. SE missed the goalpost with that caveat.
2. User profile pages need to be expanded. Blog Entries, screenshots, there's so much they can do from what infrastructure already exists.
3. Market-Board Item Buy/Sell page should have the 'Wishlist' flag option so you can track a desired item. When Wishlist'd items are placed on the market board the app should send a push notification to your phone (assuming you have the app running and allow it to send notifications).
It's very much in a 1.0 state. Profile page is especially weak considering all the info at their fingertips from the lodestone API. MB has potential if they use the Wishlist feature as a tool to send notifications.
To do things on the app like selling an item on the market board costs a kuponut - you get 2 max a day on the free version, and 10 on the $$$ version. Also you can buy a ton of kuponuts for $40. I think this is vile and disgusting, access to the game you are playing should be a right. We already bought the game, we pay a sub - you guys make more than enough without making the app itself cost even more to just USE. It's so disheartening, this is my favorite game - I've been playing since beta. Please re-think the extra cost on top of the app sub. It's not that I can't afford it, it's just obscene to pay for that. I don't understand why we have to pay for each interaction. You also can only talk to the people who have the app as well. Taking away people's ability to communicate with their friends, sometimes a vital component to someone's life, is inhumane. Please re-think the extra cost, please. Thank you for your time. =^.^=
Destiny app just better in every way Becouse i don't need to be log off to even use it
The app is pratically useless, I've deleted it from my smartphone already.
I don't think it really has any way to check. It appears to be an account-wide (all service account, all character) flag that gets set as soon as you link any character to the app for the first time. Then all your characters can register an additional favorite aetheryte destination from that point on. I tried deleting the app, and not only were my existing favorites still there, but I could create a new fourth favorite on another character.
Is there a reason why I don't have a second favorite spot? For some reason it's only letting me have the one from the one-time password app.
We can't add more inventory space.
Unless you pay an additional $5.
Now you get an extra saddlebag!
And can have an additional retainer slot!
.......
I cancelled my additional retainers and will now only pay the basic Legacy subscription, enjoy less money from me in the future. I wouldn't have minded this app if it was free and didn't have a pay advantage and virtual currency.
Truthfully, this is more about perception than anything else. They said the regular synced inventory is what can't be expanded further (beyond what they did with SB), and the whole reason for developing the saddlebag and glamour dresser was to work around those limits. So now that they worked around the limits by developing these other methods, they can expand it further using this these various kinds of "side-storage" (which isn't limited like regular inventory, though may have its own limits too).
I'm sure they'd probably argue that they already more-than-doubled people's storage space since the launch of SB, and that they've always sold extra storage capacity as an add-on. Objectively they're not wrong... but, as your quote points out, it won't really change people's sour perception that they're selling part of the solution to the problem.
The thing I do not get with this app is it offers far less then the Libra eorzea which when it allowed you to log in was a fantastic little app I have no clue how they managed to not only take two steps backwards but get in a car and reverse at high speeds, I won’t get into the premium service I think others have gotten onto that so far,
I feel like they should merge it with what remains of the libra eorzea and try to encompass some more basic uses before they even consider micro transactions ON TOP of a paid subscription, they could have the app be a direct link to the mpg store for excample and watch people use the app to buy extras and not be bled out to dry.
Yes that's it, he's now on the board of directors:

That's pretty high ranking isn't it?
