To Square Enix, these are the reasons why I am currently unsubbed from the FF14.

I mean, there's a difference between not wanting to devote time and not wanting to waste time. I do agree with some of this.The 4 player light 8 player full party is an issue, but simply adding another dps slot into the mix will not lower queue times. There isn't much a developer can do to fix the lack of tanks/heals. Tanks and heals cannot hide a mistake easily, a dps can, unless they outright die, especially in 14 where there are no official dps parsers. Players don't want to be told they mess up, and some become quite upset if you do point something out. As long as this is the case, which will likely be forever, there will always be a lack of tanks and heals, compared to dps. Dps is just the "safer" option to many players.

I refuse to fund this practice in any shape or form, not only did I pull my FFXIV sub (and will be unable to post soon as a result) I have pulled my FFXI subs as well, if they keep down this path and follow the likes of EA and so on, they can get a complete boycott for me. It saddens me that this is happening to franchise I personally love, and thought It would do good to make one more thread explaining why it is so bad (esp when the video I was shown reminded me of this situation so much) to make an app like they are doing with attaching those fees on it.

Have met some people I use top play with, they take the info from your character and can be updated. Many claim they quit, and are back a bit later with a different name. it's not hard to spot them if you know what to look for.

I honestly don't think that matters. You can play any game where mistakes of DPS are blatantly obvious, people still prefer DPS. You can go and play games where DPS have a bigger responsibility, DPS are still the most popular.

And truth be told? DPS is just the natural mode to play combat games. Most games revolve around killing stuff, not trying to hold mobs off other people as living bait or healing injured people. And the way to do that? Dealing damage. You'll find that throughout all the genres, from turret defense, over shooters, RPGs, Bullet Hell games, strategy games, fighting games etc etc. Even some "healing" games have you achieve your goal by dealing damage to germs. It's rather natural people gravitate towards that.

Some indie game devs seem to have realized, I just recently saw "Healer's Quest" on Steam, which seems to be all about breaking that up by progressing "without" dealing damage - Though your "party members" still do, as per usual. Kinda a necessity, as without damage, no damage to undo, i.e. no healing. It's not exactly a common type of game, tho', more of a parody.

It feels like when you came into this game, OP, you were able to be a sort of 'hardcore' player and move through content at a pace that got you want you needed to progress. That's cool. I used to be that way when I was 25+ years younger. But now, I'm married, and my time is riddled with real life, I realize doing raidlike content and spending hours at a time to farm and learn is something I just can't do.

But ...

Reading the rest of what you wrote seems to me, to stem from your frustration of going from 'hardcore' to 'casual'. Many games have put out new content that makes previous content obsolete (I'm looking at you EverQuest 2). And as annoying as that is, you can still get the older stuff to help you along. There are people out there who I am certain are in the same proverbial boat as you are.

And I get your 'burn out'. Heck, I have 2 characters ... one I do everything I can on (Caleb) and another where I mainly use for RP and wanting to burn through the MSQ (Levi). When I push through the MSQ on Levi, I get seriously exhausted after 2 hours of doing the same thing over and over ... but with Caleb, I mix it up a bit. Having goals to reach really helps. Like yesterday, my goal was to hit lvl 50 on my PLD, finish the Hunting Log, and get the Ironworks Gear. So I mixed it up between those 3 goals and did what I needed to do, all while taking breaks.

And don't worry, crafting and gathering isn't for everyone. And yes, I have 2 full retainers of crafting material, and the 3rd holding my misc stuff. All that, and my character's inventory is full! That's when crafting guides like GamerEscape can help.

Same goes with leveling. When I read you tried to level Tank and Healer at a fast pace, I had a feeling you would stop. That can help with the burnout, but I think at that point you just weren't interested in the game anymore ... especially your feeling on not able to keep up like you used to. Perhaps a bit of vacation from the game might help you get your interest back. And if not, I hope you find something you enjoy!

Well I mean... Yoshi-P does recommend people to take breaks from FFXIV if they're feeling burnt out.

Yeah and that's probably why a lot of devs/directors are obligated to not say that people should stop playing their game to go play other games; the publisher or whomever doesn't want them to say it.
But it's evident that Yoshida doesn't have that restriction. And I think that's a good thing.

Housing reclamation was made after ppl complained about houses held by ppl that stopped playing the game completely but it's much better to forgot that and still pushing this nonsense over you know asking them to fix the system.
It's easy to see things only from the facet you want to see but you might miss the greater picture, ture it migh've been as you say, but I know several ppl on my server that were actually happy for the change since the main problem of housing was and still is avaibility.

You can have house reclamation and still allow breaks. The problem with the reclamation is it's too short for anything longer than not subbing for 1 month. But there's a problem with that: In 1 month, there will still be nothing new!

The minimum I would consider to be reasonable, from a game content drought perspective, is 3 months. In reality, the content cycle is 6 months long, so that would be ideal.

And guess what? If people have truly quit the game, their house would STILL get reclaimed whether it's 1 month or 6.

But no. Making housing available may seem like the purpose behind the change to losing a house, but the reality is that they want you to stay subbed. That's why it's so short. They'd never admit it, though.

That's what a lack of hindsight does (that was said before 2.1 came out). You can say "we will never do this" at first, but once you see a problem a year or so later, "we have to do this" becomes the next best (unpopular) option. Imagine if someone bought a personal mansion, did nothing with it and then left the game permanently. Without housing reclamation, that plot of land would go on to be a waste of resources, since no one can do anything with it.

Blame everything on development team for house reclaiming is simply doesn't make sense.
For the people without house, they wont tolerate reclaim grace period longer than 60 calendar days.

This one makes no sense to me, and I say that as a casual. You don't need a high ilvl while leveling. I've done nothing but the MSQ and the dungeons and trials connected to it and I've gotten gear just from doing that. And I'm also a red mage. DPS queues are long, I agree, but that's the price we pay for not wanting to tank or heal.

I'm not going to comment on the rest of your points because I disagree with them. I'm a big story guy, so for me, FFXIV is thoroughly engaging. But the above point struck me as particularly odd.

You have ignored the community aspect of my point ofc.

Besides it's a pretty weak excuse for keeping you subbed since not everyone has a house.

Let's say I don't have a house, what then? How does Yoshida keep me subbed? Where's his master plan?

You missed the main point: Yoshida saying "you should take a break" goes completely counter to them having added house reclamation (which was added before he made that statement), which doesn't let you take a break. So him saying "you should take a break" is complete BS.

There are 285,120 houses in the game. Yeah, that's not weak at all. That's a lot of people to keep chained to their subscription.

That depends on the person. If they really need a break from the game, then they won't care about losing the house (and potentially the items and gil they can reclaim if they decide not to return in 80 days. 45+35).

With the not so insignificant detail that the one house /server was added only this patch and FC /personal housing are in that number.

There's a huge difference between a break and quitting the game. When you take a break, you typically do care about losing your gil and items, especially when they're items you can't get back or costed you real money.

Only this would have me think about whether I want to take a break for 45-80 days or not (I'm pretty sure these can be reclaimed from the NPC). Anything else beyond that wouldn't really affect my decision.

Allow me to give you a personal example. I had to sub just so I could reclaim my stuff. I had no desire to play the game again yet. There was still no new content, I had done all the current stuff. I won't give you the entire list of things I had to resub to reclaim, but here's the short of it:

80 million gil from my mansion (bought before house reclamation was introduced, during a time when it was promised it would never be a thing), and 5 Eastern Cherry Trees, currently valued on my server as a total of 100 million gil, or going by its real world value based on the Mog Station, $25.

This is not even close to everything I would have lost, of course.


I will concede, I would not be so against house reclamation in its current state if they kept your gil and items for you indefinitely, or at least for a very long time.

it should be 2-6 months just because how this game is programmed and how they release content, most definitely, if it was that long maybe they would not have to worry about suspending for disasters (if 6 mo)?

Make content last 2-3 months, in time for next patch or your view is invalid. You are only agreeing to it because SE picked that arbitrary set of time set of time. But ya there needs to be a time limit cuz you don't know if they will ever return. it should be something like 75 days for house, 6 mo after that for item reclaim

All SE really needs to do is increase item reclamation to something like 4-6 months (I can't see them making it indefinite, as there is always a chance a player will/can never return). 45 days for housing should be left as is, though (there are other people still looking for a house, after all).

It technically does depending on the person. Even though it's mostly just weekends, I still do Savage Progression and occasionally Eureka (if I have the time for it). Byakko Extreme if I feel like getting a tiger-dog.
75 days is simply too long, especially if SE change it so you have 6 months to reclaim 80% of your gil and most/all of your furnishings (SE removed that silly "item will be destroyed if removed" nonsense, right?). Lose house after 45 days, reclaim items somewhere within 6 months and then maybe buy a new house because you're probably coming back on a new patch, which will probably come out with new housing wards.

I've already been speaking out against house reclamation and the housing system in general for years. There have been plenty of anti-reclamation threads and they are all the same.

I've posted suggestions and everything but ultimately, I'm starting to no longer believe making things better is their real goal. It's all about their bottom line.

As I've said in another post, I'll still be playing now and then as long as a friend is, but I've personally become pretty disillusioned with the game.

For relevance's sake to this thread, house reclamation really is one of the reasons I enjoy the game less than I did before.

Most everything you mentioned OP is what ALL MMORPG's offer today and how they run and what they do. No game will ever be able to create/add content fast enough for the players today.
Having a blast myself. Could be because I am new(er), but this game offers so much more than other games bigger than them imo.

It seems that a number of people are interested in this thread, so I will try to clarify my situation a bit more.

When I started FF14, I was a still studying and even after I graduated, I was jobless for 2 years. During this time, I had tons of free time to waste and I spend most of it playing FF14. As some of you might have already guessed, Erik Huntsman is not my main character it is my alternate character. My main character is Aerilyn White. I had so much free time and loved FF14 so much that I didn’t mind doing the MSQ again, levelling up all my classes/jobs (including crafters and gatherers) again, raiding and doing all the side quests again on my alternate character. That is just how much free time I had and I did not really mind the same patch cycle so much at that time (cause I feel like I don’t have a life LOL and FF14 gave me my reason for being alive).

However, at the end of 2016, I finally got a permanent job, which led me to meeting my husband (who also happened to be a gamer and played FF14) and we got married soon after. Next month, I will give birth to our first daughter. Suddenly, I don’t have much free time anymore. I am tired after work and would rather rest to regain my energy. On weekends, I sometimes have to work and sometimes I go see my husband since we are currently living in two different state. Playing game turned into a luxury that happened once in a blue moon. And playing FF14 once in a blue moon is just not efficient. (If you refer to my original post, this is what I meant by not being able to be an efficient casual player). Levelling up my Ilevel started to become a hassle because the ilevel keep being raised before I can get my ilevel up. I also feel that my money is being wasted on a game that I don’t play much or able to progress much. Say what you want, but in my opinion FF14 is not meant to be played casually.

I understand, for me, life just happened.

(Beware, shameless praises of another game that is not FF14)

But there are better games out there that suit me better. Currently I am playing Guild wars 2 (GW2). It is a free to play (f2p) game. The content in GW2 is not as rich as FF14 however there are more things for me to in that game because I am not gated by Ilevel. And best of all because it is f2p I can take as much time I need and still make meaningful progress. When I pay real money for an advantage over other players I feel it was worth my money. And most problems that exist in FF14 doesn’t exist in GW2. There is no inventory problem because you can buy more inventory spaces if you need it. And they have a wardrobe system where you can store all the armor skins you have unlock and GW2 did this for free! We have guild hall which is equivalent to guild house and it will not be destroyed if you don’t log in for long periods of time! There are Achievements that will reward you on special items if you obtained them, which make me feel like I am progressing in a meaningful way. The world exploration is more engaging in GW2 because there are things you need to do to complete a map.

Anyway, I feel like GW2 is more appreciative of their customer than FF14. Yes GW2 foremost purpose is to make money but they offer good service for it. They have changed and added to their formula a number of time. Recently, they slightly change the gathering system. My favourite change was the wardrobe system. All of this is happening in GW2 while FF14 keeps on singing their ‘server limitation’ song. GW2 is a free to play game, FF14 is a P2P game. I feel something is seriously wrong. I don’t mind paying money for FF14 but I do expect to have better service than a F2P game. If not, I would feel like I am wasting my money.

Now about housing, I have a medium house in the Goblet. I bought this house before the price was reduced. It is one of the reason I WANT to resub to FF14 but I have to let it go because I don’t think the house is worth my money. If I ever return to this game, I will be homeless. I feel betrayed by SE, and it just adds more salt to the wound.

That is the end of my rant and my break. Now time to return to work. To those who are still having fun with FF14, good for you. To those who already lost their rose tinted glasses, I understand you.

There is no inventory problem because you can buy more inventory spaces if you need it.

Yeah try to complain about inventory problems here people attack you for "hording" crafting and gathering here is gated hard by not enough inventory space if you craft a lot, and craft a lot of different things, and few understand this problems because very few go all out blasting in crafting. Most treat it as a side thing to do once in a while.

It technically does depending on the person. Even though it's mostly just weekends, I still do Savage Progression and occasionally Eureka (if I have the time for it). Byakko Extreme if I feel like getting a tiger-dog.
75 days is simply too long, especially if SE change it so you have 6 months to reclaim 80% of your gil and most/all of your furnishings (SE removed that silly "item will be destroyed if removed" nonsense, right?). Lose house after 45 days, reclaim items somewhere within 6 months and then maybe buy a new house because you're probably coming back on a new patch, which will probably come out with new housing wards.

I know this is in reference of a different thread but this is frustrating. When you state something like "75 days is simply too long" without explaining why (No "if SE change it so you have 6 months to reclaim 80% of your gil and most/all of your furnishings" is not an explain) it looks like you are just blind defending (i/e whiteknight) because SE said so. Simply following something because someone said it is just a blind following. I do not see this as "insult" when I am simply trying to explain what you are doing, and why it is a good idea to better explain things.

We stated because of the game's high turn over rate with gear and content (hamster wheel) they can't keep up with giving us enough content, so logically they need to give 75-90 days on auto demo. Making it 45 or 90 does not change anything in the grand scheme of things, the basic idea is not to have forever quitting players take used house plot and both fit those goals. Like this GW2 example, why does that game have no auto demo and this one does? Because one gives bad design and still will not admit it.

FFXI did not have problems needing "new content" every 1-3 months, FFXIV dev team has problems making content last and not make it feel monotonous. to add to this problem, after play a while, people know their gear is going to outdated soon so you run into the "why bother" after getting screwed over by RNG too many times.

75 days is roughly 2 and a half months. That means a player can subscribe for one month, stop for two months and never be in risk of losing their house if they decide to resubscribe when the next patch comes out. Keeping it at 45 days, but extending the reclaim time to 6 months is a more fair option. Someone without a house doesn't have to wait until the next patch comes out to get a house of their own (and after waiting... two weeks? and this is assuming SE release new wards again) and the person who took an extended break can still reclaim mostly everything from their home (80% of the gil spent and some/most/all furnishings) and decide if they want to buy a personal house again.

The reason why housing has a time limit (ever since 3.1) is because housing is extremely limited (4320 per server, right?). I'm not familiar with GW2 housing, so I'll ask you this: is it unlimited and is it all instanced (two things that make it different from FXIV's)? Does the same apply to Wild Star (I think you start off alone with your home, but then can make a neighbourhood with other players)?

FFXI was... it really depended on if you had friends to play with. If you did, then you had stuff to do. If not, then you probably would only be on for a short time before unsubscribing out of boredom or some other reason (even if there was content to do).

Suggestion : Did you try creating a party with friends instead of using the Duty Finder ? The reason behind that is that, if you go as a full premade, you can bypass the ilvl requirement. It can be difficult if you play as a tank, but for other jobs, if the rest of the party is geared enough, you won't have any serious problem clearing the content.
