Where did the Lalafell hate originate?

I dunno about hate, but the small number of rude people I have come across over the years, I would have to guess have been 95% lalafells (the rest of them being miqs or au'ra). I don't really see why generally rude people are drawn to be the "cute" races in some games; Of course the vast majority of lalafells are fine people.

It's fun to tease other people is where it comes from mostly. I'm aware that it's very likely just confirmation bias but personally most of the obnoxious rude players I've come across were also Lalafell players. Of course I've probably met just as many jerks that play other races but it almost seems like being tiny attracts trolls? Again probably just a personal bias.

All in all I don't mind the lil buttheads, some of them are cute.

Female lalafell voices are difficult for me :X Most of the options boil down to high-pitched, barely audible, or really low/old sounding (which does not fit the Lala race IMO). I currently am using voice 4 or 5, and the /cheer & /happy emotes are so damn shrill. I won't use the emotes for that reason alone. I do really enjoy all the 'quieter' emotes (doze, no, yes, fume, chuckle, etc) with this voice, which is why I gave it a shot. But yes, lala voices in general...yikes.

LOL, I juuuust watched that video before my post as I was trying to find examples. There used to be this channel that went through all emote/battle voices (for all races), but it seems to have been taken down :(

3. If we really wanna use the actions done by NPC's in the game, Lala's are no where near the worst. I've seen a ton more Hyur, Roe, and Elezen NPC's that are evil. The only two races I seen less of are Au Ra and Miqo'te.
4. They were marked as the dwarf race. The cuteness is entirely thanks to the team's idea that we're really attracted to cute. Then again, when female Miqo'te is half the playerbase...
5. There are enough oddballs in every race. Please don't just stare at Lala's for that. You wanna know how many Miqo'te Nuhn RPers I see whisper me for their fun times? And I'm the creepy player race?

I don't think her point is that she hates when people joke. I think what shes trying to say is shes tired of hearing the same ones over and over. Not to mention when people joke so much about lalas and nothing else it actually does come off as a bit racist. I have played lala main since 2013 and i myself think it also gets old fast. It's like listening to the same song every single morning, it can drive you insane, although hey it doesn't bother me as much anymore because whenever someone says the same old joke every day i just reply with some nice cloud breather jokes (tall jokes) so meh.

Considering lala jokes happen far far more than any other race's jokes i would say there is either some in game racism going on or everyone loves lala's secretly lol. kinda like how you picked on the girl you liked in 1st grade. As for lala hate. I dont really see it. what little i do see i used to put down to age old resentment in FFXI. everyone was jealous of the taru taru MP. but these days who knows....

EXACTLY! I was going to say the same thing but then saw your reply. People keep digging up lore and crap about lala's and saying this is why when in reality they are just singling lala's out. There is crap about every race not just lala's. I have had people call me a perv because i play female lala and whats funny is the people who call me a perv are people who play a female miqo dressed in some of the skimpiest clothes in the game. Like people are so blind they don't see that they are singling out me for something they themselves are guilty of lol. I feel embaressed to be a part of the same world as those people.

Not sure about the origin of the mass of hate, because I didn't really even know that there was such a large scale hate for Lalafells, but I just personally hate them because all too many people with increasingly annoying behaviors seemed to favor the race. Statistically i don't think what your saying really has any backbone, because i have met plenty of people who are not lalafells and spam emote and do things that are annoying just as you described. It has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with the person behind the character. There's no reason or proof to believe that those people only choose lalafells. I have a friend who is an au'ra and she spams a emote that sounds like shes coughing all the time to the point where i have to mute the tv. I mean everyone does it at some point or another, has nothing to do with which race someone is. From the way you are speaking it sounds as if your just giving your personal experience which cannot be generalized to a whole race and only one race, and don't forget ...every time you go eww a lalafell, you are treating a real person rudely based off of your experience with another different person. I don't see myself as some sjw and get triggered over every little thing, but when i clearly see biased i make it known. The least people who are biased should do is actually admit their faults. Otherwise it just makes them look even worse when someone else points it out instead.

I'm not stating for statistics. I'm stating for personal experience, hence the pre-cursor of my post and not even knowing there was large scale hate for the race. I've personally run into more Lalafells than spam or are otherwise annoying or just jerks over other players of other races. That just happened to be how it panned out for my encounters in this game and that is why I fall into the apparent large presence of Lalafell-haters. The reason I sound like I am giving my personal experience is because it is just that. Just like I don't know if there even is a large- scale hatred of Lalafells, or if there's just a very loud (or noticeable) group of players that just hate them for reasons.

Also i think most of the people in this thread claiming they barely hear those jokes or don't think theres any singling out of the lala race only say that because they don't notice it. If those people used a fanta and went lala for a while i'm sure it would become much more noticeable to them how often the same jokes get said over and over. I don't log into ffxiv to watch reruns of the same comedian do his same routine ever day lol.

I'm on Louisoix, and I haven't experienced any of the hate that other people who play Lalafells experience Oo Lucky me I guess! I try to keep the emote spam to a bare minimum (don't you love people who assume because you play lalafell you're going to be a douchebag?), because I know how annoying it can be!

I completely agree with you. It's amazing that people are acting like its a statistic or something when it's not. Saying that something like 90% of lalas are rude jerks or something xD. Like seriously? Perhaps those people are the jerks and they got into fights with lala's and don't want to admit they are the ones at fault, who knows. All i know is its astronomically improbable that, that many lala's are troll's/rude/jerks. You can't take your personally experiences that only god knows are even a true statement and generalize it a to a whole race pretty much. Sometimes i wonder if these people even reread what they say to see how it sounds before clicking the post button lol.

It's hard not to think of lalas as food when a lot of players name their lalas after food like Hash Brown. Also did you think it might be a Louisoix thing where those who play lalas aren't as trolly/rude/jerks vs the rest of the servers? You also seem to get offended at and disbelieving of others who say they notice bad behavior coming more from those who play lalafell just because you don't see it or don't see it as often.

Making fun of the short race goes back a long time in MMOs... Everquest may have started it, with the halfling and gnomes getting the hate. Or it maybe have come from some earlier source than that but that was the first major MMO that I can recall it happening in. Those players trickle down over the years and thus lalas get the love now

The food jokes stem from Everquest as well as all races dropped their species of meat and you could then go and craft food with said meat. Such flavor!

I highly recommend not to eat lalafells.

The origin of the lalafell race lies in dangerous place full with poisoned plants and animals. Lalafell can absorb those poisons which make them immune to it. But that makes lalafell meat toxic to other species. Did you never wonder why the round body of lalafell looks similar to a blowfish? ; )

And btw: aetherochemical combound #123 is know for its lalafell-like skin and can be found in Azys Lla. Just sayin... ... ...

Mostly due to certain Lalafell NPCs that have caused us more grief in story than anyone else. If you are looking for an evil villain, look at the Lalafell.

Plus we all know small people have more evil concentrated, that's why they're such good BLMs and DRKs, duh.

Generally in my experience, my main is a lala. There seem to be people believe lalas is pedos (loli etc) and we had this kind of treatment back in FF11 (as Tarutarus).

I don't know what to say apart from let everyone play whatever you want.

Lalafell abuse predates FFXIV in the form of Taru Taru abuse in FFXI, so I don't think that the nasty Lalafellian villains in FFXIV can be wholly to blame. I think it's more likely a combination of the Creepy Child and Troubling Unchildlike Behavior tropes - Lalafell / Taru Taru look childlike, but don't ACT childlike, and that causes some cognitive dissonance that some folks lash out against with faux racism.

They don't get ALL the hate, though. There's plenty left over for Elvaan / Elezen (dhalmel necks!), and other races get an occasional share of the pie, as well.

For me its a real aversion for kawaii. I don't mind cuteness per se but when you dip into that sugary j-pop anime type of cuteness I just wanna burn it. Not sure why it invokes such a reaction from me because cute lil big eyed rl puppies melt my heart. It may have something to do with the kawaii obsessed ppl I have known irl which are by far the most annoying ppl ever or maybe it just triggers something. Even when I was a lil kid anything kawaii invoked the same reaction.

Then I played XI for about 7 years and the taru taru with the way they talkied walkied and acted wacted really annoyed the hell outta me.

So lala stood no chance.

I didn't mean you, but the other poster from your server that seems to disregard other people's experiences of disliking lalafells due to the lack of proof via numbers. I actually like lalas and think they're cute. Sadly generalization tends to happen and yes not everyone who plays a lala are elitist, emote spaming, pervy, rude trolls.

Perhaps not, but enough are that I wish they'd allow a separate mute option for lala noises like they did for performance. I still wouldn't want to look at them, but I at least wouldn't hate them if I didn't have to hear their constant, squeaky, emote spam every time I teleported to Limsa.

I most certainly don't like Lala's due to my experiences with Taru's in FFXI, though not so blindly as to judge a player based on their race pick. I judge the player by their actions, not their race, so I am friends with a number of Lala.

Every Tarutaru player except one(and that one was a Tarutaru reroll from Galka, who were always the nicest people in the game) that I got to know were jerks and/or perverted. Seeing so many emotes that were some variant of /toss "spanks <t>'s rear" or /cheer(I think it was /cheer anyway. It was some emote where they'd hop into their air, raising their hands up) "tries to touch <t>'s chest, but can't reach them!" wore me down after awhile. I knew one who named himself Aaveraiskaaja. Good friend of mind, but go see what that translates to. Finnish to English. I've received SO many verbal lashings from Tarutaru players, my bias against them feels justified.

It's really strange when I think about it though. While I do approach Lalafell with caution, expecting the same kind of players that played Tarutaru since Lalafell are just Tarutaru Reborn, and what I find most of the time are players that are exactly the opposite of what they were in FFXI. A fair number of the Lalafells I've made friends with are some of the nicest people I've run into in the game.
