Very true, but to decrease the frustration we can give helpful advice about how to play the mode, not just classes. It's difficult when's players don't want to learn, but there are some that would be willing.

You can know your class like the back of your hand, but if you don't know what to do in the match will hinder more.

Marking and fallouts for example. From matches I played last night, players don't know how to follow or use them properly. Someone calls out for melee and everyone scatters to solo a player or 2v1. This makes it harder to take a player out, like the healer, and ends up waisting the teams and your time. This is are only way to communicate so we need to teach how to use it right.

Kind of veered off topic. But changing the reward style could bring more players to the mode.

This is a hypothetical idea that seems to be popping up more that could get more players to learn pvp.

The concept I've been explaining would still require the player to achieve Top 100 for the reward to be possible.

We recently shared some new details during the recent Adrenaline Rush TV stream in Japan, so I'd like to let you all in on this new information!
Before season 5 kicked off, we showed off the amazing prizes via the Developers' Blog!

In regard to the weapons mentioned in the post, the top 10 winners in Season 5 of the Feast will receive special tokens based on their ranking plus an additional 10 tokens for a guaranteed weapon!

Here is the breakdown of how many tokens you will receive based on ranking within the Feast:

• Diamond: 7 tokens
• Platinum: 6 tokens
• Gold: 5 tokens
• Silver: 4 tokens
• Bronze: 3 tokens

So if you are at the Diamond rank and have also claimed one of the top 10 spots, you will be rewarded with a grand total of 17 tokens~!!

Now, I wish we could preview ALL the weapons, but I think showing this one off (if you missed it) wouldn't hurt... Check it out in all its glory!

Thank you, Sicycre, for keeping us in the loop. I have to say that I disagree with how the tokens are set up though if I'm interpreting it correctly. I'm assuming that weapons cost 10 tokens since the post said it gets you a guaranteed weapon without mentioning rank. And I'm also assuming the tokens can't be used on anything besides weapons.

This means that outside of being top 10, all ranks that hit diamond, platinum, or gold for two seasons get weapons at the same time. I don't think that reward is properly proportioned to the amount of effort each rank requires to obtain. Diamond requires so much more time, skill, and effort to get than gold, yet diamonds not on top 100 won't feel any reward for the extra effort for many months.

Diamonds can get two weapons sooner. But I don't think having 2 weapons sooner is a suitable reward because 1) diamond takes much more effort than gold, 2) you need diamond (and one platinum) for 3 seasons which is a dedicated endeavor, and 3) a majority of PvP players will have already had the weapons for months.

It will be nice to see all the wintraders showing off their weapons when the season ends.

With as frustrating as it is to climb as a DPS wading through win traders, and 30+ minute queues per match I feel pretty insulted that I can't get a weapon after a single season. Top 10 or 2 full seasons at Gold or higher? What a joke.

Why is everyone so eager to make Rare items worthless just because they were to lazy to get them when they were available? I worked my ass of to be Top 100 in S2, i learned to play Healer wich i hate to play and now people wanna make all that Work worthless simply because they are jealous? No thanks.

It's so incredibly beyond easy to get gold, they may as well just hand out the weapons for participating for two seasons, really.

For reference you can get to gold with a 34% winrate or some similar nonsense number.

well I mean if you hit diamond now you only gotta get bronze next time. Gold is pretty much free anyway.

Free or not, if something isn't done about the rampant wintrading, I'm done with the Feast. However many tickets I might have can just collect dust for all I care.

5 seasons of having to go out of my way to try and rank on limited personal time, and cheaters just roll right along past me like it's so easy, while any attempts to properly report them and offer what I can to help see action taken against them just gets stonewalled.

I mean, if wintrading in the Feast is taken as seriously as wintrading Lord of Verminion tournaments, then why have any of us worked so hard all these seasons?

PvP rewards aren't like seasonal events stuff, they needs be exclusive.

If you want something from the past, you need earn it with the same amount of blood that has been spilled from who got it at the time.

Token system may be useful at it, let have "top 10" token and "top 100" token currencies, and the rewards past and present can be purchased with that tokens. Top players will get just the tokens, and if you want glamour an armour of the past than the current one, buy it with them. Top 10 exclusive weaps and armor will require the "top 10" token currency of course.

Exclusive items in the current pvp format is stupid. With win trading the way it is people are essentially saying they deserve their exclusive rewards. If the system actually rewarded competition and not cheaters then I would agree with the exclusion. Even when I see the items on others, I don't think "Oh they most have worked hard for that!" instead I think "How many win trades did that take?" That sucks for the legit players but it is what it is. They should treat this like a mobile game. You get 10 and only 10 feast matches if you quit or d/c (without getting back in) it counts towards the 10. If win traders only get 10 attempts to advance and waste 1/2 trying to find their alt, they will not be making it to the top.

I think this mirrors how a lot of us feel about the current state of things. My opinion on the matter is that due to the lack of policing, the feast feels like a cheaters game. Where cheaters prosper and legitimate players are at a disadvantage.

My sentiments exactly.

I've never been top 100, not for lack of skill, but purely lack of time (and I boycotted S4 to protest the chat restriction). But I've always made honest efforts in any match I've been in.

Watching wintraders spend less time and make far less effort, let alone apply dishonest means openly because after 5 seasons they've still gone unpunished just turns me off bothering with any future seasons. That is unless I want to cheat too, which I don't.

Just get Gold and stop playing. They clearly don't care about PvP at this point. They could ban people, they could hotfix the class imbalance, they could fix the lag issues, but they don't. Only the wintraders get any benefit from their lack of vision and care. So there are your options, cheat or quit.

After 4 seasons of this disappointment, I happily choose "quit", at least with ranked. I'm looking forward to cross server custom matches that we can actually chat in. It'll be nice to play with friends from other servers and not have to worry about botting, wintrading, XP farming, or that asinine quick chat.

If they're satisfied with, or think players are truly satisfied with the state ranked Feast is currently in, then it deserves to become dead content. The idea of that as an E-sport is just laughable now.

I just hate that they are constantly referencing the idea of making it a competitive E-sport. At this point, I can't trust anything they say about PvP until I actually see it implemented in game. Their "fixes" to tournaments like Triple Triad and Lord of Verminion didn't work at all. People still cheat them, and they continue to let it happen, just as they do in the Feast. It's embarrassing, and the more they say stuff like "E-sport" and then not do a damn thing about it, the more people inside and outside the game continue to laugh and point.

E-Sports is just a marketing gig. It's gonna amount to a few SE hosted tournaments at the Fanfests or similar events, with lots of sponsor advertisements to try and finance it - if that. It's a show, nothing more. If you expect more, don't.

You're taking this serious and that's already your first mistake. Not just for E-Sports but Ranked in general. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment and anger.

Square Enix really just cares about quantity over quality. Quick Chat brought more people to try PvP, yet the overall quality of players went down as there was less proper communication. But SE doesn't see that as an issue because "Hey look, more people are playing now." That's reflected heavily in the ranked situation also as people can just spam matches with little effort to get somewhere. There's less incentive to play good and more to play often, which ironically goes against what Yoshi P wanted FFXIV to be (a more "play when you want to" MMO). The report system is laughable for previously mentioned reasons and more. It feels like they just don't trust us at all. We can bring all the evidence we want, but if SE doesn't see it, it doesn't exist.

Now excuse me as I laugh myself into oblivion once more at the mention of this being an "e-sport".

I don't think taking ranked Feast seriously is a mistake. I believe overall, the pvp Feast community would love to take this seriously and are showing that with the criticisms to improve the Feast experience overall. The problem lies with how SE is taking our criticisms, it really seems they're ignoring us or giving us answers that are half-assed.

What? You didn't think all the melee needed nerfed? That healing was already too powerful, and now it's more powerful because of those nerfs? You think TBN and Scholars are balanced, too? You are dev team worthy!

Oh, I have no doubts that the community would love to take it seriously. Not just love to, but do. I see that in every post that gets angry when it is treated no different than other parts of the game like Triple Triad or Lord Verminion - the other "competitive" systems with exclusive rewards. And that is precisely why you are doomed to get disappointed over and over and over. Ranked isn't going to get the attention it would need to become the place you want to see in it - A place for high and fair competition. Especially in solo queue, which is a jokeworthy format for anything but casual scrims. Ironically, it's the only one left.

If you haven't noticed, moderation sucks and they either were unable or didn't bother trying to moderate the chat nor party queue and simply removed both outright. Even if they had the resources to "fix" Feast, they can't justify spending them on such a tiny portion of the playerbase - They can't even do matchmaking within one tier with what they're given and even that is a completely outrageous difference for any competitive game. Hence, they're trying to grow it - That's why they first made ranking up easier and then implemented the token system, to increase the incentive to play and thus activity. And yay, we're back to the actual topic of the thread.
But frankly, I very much doubt the efficiency of that. Top 100 rewards in a game with 300k players is pretty nuts in the first place for an incentive system - You gotta already be expecting only like 1% turnover.

Ultimately, Ranked Feast is not anything special. It is one of many attractions on the fair and not even a very popular one at that. If you take it more serious than that, you are bound to be disappointed. And since, as you said, people really want to take it more serious than that, they are disappointed. For five seasons and counting. And they will continue to be disappointed and complain about falling on deaf ears and whatnot. Over and over. It's getting painful to read at times, like watching a bird fly against the window over and over not realizing there's glass in the way.

One thing I've learned is that it is easier to break things than fix them. It's easier to find ways to circumvent things, than build up more walls of protection. You need only look at how many internet security companies and virus protection programs are constantly playing a game of catch up.

I like PVP and I do generally like that they made it more accessible to many players instead of it having a ton of button bloat and weird skill hierarchy that it had before. I still feel they need to tweak the system and bring balance to many of the jobs.

So it bring us to this: one of the things is I'm not sure I like the PVP community (or at least the way the loud ones are "airing" their concerns). It's not that I don't disagree with many of the concerns. I believe there is a problem with ALTs taking up slots for PVP players, people wintrading which defeats competitive play and bots plaguing the system making it not fun when trying to do Frontlines.

It's frustrating to want to read the feedback when it's littered with passive aggressive insults or just plain outright insults. I get a customer is angry but sometimes people need to take a step back before throwing out "doesn't care".

Like I said earlier it's easier to find ways to break or circumvent a system than fix it. Some of this is likely cultural - as some players will find ways simply due to their upbringing and mentality from where they live and how the development team can figure out how to fix the system without punishing other people (not to mention limits of their own resources).

Given that there was already a system implemented to create custom PvP hotbars (not entirely unlike what we have now), I'll always contest the "too many buttons" argument, and I played one of the jobs considered complicated, even in PvE. And while balancing had always been questionable, it was certainly better then than now.

It took a long time for them to even implement the PVE vs PVP button bloat problem prior to the overhaul. Did it mean they "Didn't care?"

I don understand what your trying to say. Are You complaining about the complainers? If we complain we have to make sure we don't hurt the Dev's feelings? If we don't complain then how do the devs know what to fix? And yes, I think if it takes you 4+ years to fix a problem like win trading, it leaves the impression that you don't care.

Around here, we've had a LOT of issues and concerns go unanswered, or seemingly ignored/overruled for a long time. Just look at any threads concerning the Feast chat restrictions, GC restrictions, and the recent job balance feedback threads made well before they started the official 5th Feast season - without balance changes. It's these matters that have left this PvP community rather terse and expecting almost nothing these days. I dislike it as well as anyone else, but I can't deny what I've seen all this time.

Yep, as the guy that after a match gone wrong gone to the extent to search members on server and when found me on same server, started to insult me by tells before being blacklisted. You need say thank you to people like that, that chat got removed.

The "doesn't care" statements mainly focuses on reports of win traders, hackers, botters. Since season 1, we've always had issues with win traders. We're in season 5, and we still have issues with the same win traders. I understand the limits of their own resources, but how are you going to run 5 actual ranked seasons with exclusive rewards, and not have decent moderation. I mean this also apparently applies in Triple Triad and Lord of Verminion tourneys where they have exclusive rewards along with win traders and bots as well. If they want to do exclusive rewards for anything, you expect a capable moderation team to go along with it.

Actually yeah, you can actually have a critique without being passive aggressive and rude. It's not a mutually exclusive issue. I also don't understand what you're trying to say, I agree with the complaints but don't like how some people are presenting them? Besides hiring more people to investigate win trading, between players what can be done to prevent it - out of curiosity what were prior suggestions?

There's nothing us players can do to stop hackers and wintraders. It also really doesn't help that we can't submit actual valid evidence on these offenses simply because "they can be edited". We have to rely solely on telling support about the person and praying that the GMs catch them in the act. If they don't, we as the reporter run the risk of getting in trouble ourselves for "falsely accusing". I can agree that some of us, myself included can get heated over this, but, for myself at least, it's because we're not being taken seriously.

I get heated and upset because we aren't being taken seriously at all. Period. We offer suggestions, they don't listen. We give them proof of cheating, they say "people aren't cheating." We beg and plead for some updates on what we can expect for the future in PvP, and we get silence. 4.06a did nothing but show us how truly blind the PvP devs are to the imbalance of the Feast. The phrase "based on player feedback" holds as little weight to me anymore as "competitive E-sport" regarding the Feast. They are both jokes, and SE killed them.

No, SE actually killed PvP by keeping Shatter, the most boring and PvE-oriented map as default PvP experience for 3 major patches (3.4, 3.5 and 4.0). That's what, around 14 months of hitting ice? Wow, exciting. And they probably think it's a great map because it's much more popular than Seal Rock. Yes, people started to PvP more for Garo event and PvE XP, but who actually does Frontlines for fun anymore?

Look at this page (I am at 73) to see how Frontlines are screwed by bots and alts. Mael players running alt bots on flames and adders, and a bunch of players trying to make things up. Look at victory percentages, sorry but I don't buy the "mael is gud" reason.

This was in old Seal Rock days. Over 90% weekly win rate. The secret is simple - a competent premade team.

Yup, And they are also adding cross word tells, people that would have been toxic in games will just send you a tell cross world and be toxic then.
All that the chat ban is doing is just preventing the inevitable and making it so people that are serious about pvp unable to communicate, and people that want to learn unable to learn.

A chat ban is not the answer but proper policing. Chat ban should be punishment for toxic players, not for everyone.
