Yes, we do have some stupid mounts in game already.
No, that's not really a good reason to shovel some more stupid in.

Mounts in game don't handle like they should either. Ever rode a horse? It can't do a 180° turn on the spot mid-run without losing momentum. It can't do a solid 1080 in a casual jump, nor can it instantly change the spinning direction mid-flight. Going from full throttle to standstill doesn't work in a fraction of a second either. And even if they could, you'd have to have one hell of a pair of thighs to stay in the saddle when they do. You can turn them by sliding around like an ice princess, the feet don't even move. Weight and momentum are completely ignored in all our existing mounts, making them all look completely ridiculous.
But somehow, all of that passes the mental filter unscathed.
>>Still trying to justify that just because it doesn't feel right, because you dont like it, because it doesn't fit into the game
<<When we still have stuff in the game that doesn't feel right, people don't like it, doesn't fit into the game.
I'm sorry the bike wouldn't "feel" right for you. I totally understand, like when I jump off high ledges and get to 1HP and continue running like I can't even "feel" my legs broken or anything or how we can change the direction of all our mounts from forward to backward in the blink of an eye. There's alot of stuff in this game that really hits you right in the feels.
If it gets added you can either use it or not use it, period. It's not going to affect your play experience any more than stuff that is already in the game is doing.
The no bike crowd reminds me of olden time Team fortress 2 players.
"No dont add that its hideous and too techy for the gameworld" -> proceed to get laser weapons
"That cant be added to the game! It does not fit the theme" ->Proceed to be able to dress up like Batman
"We cant allow an idea like that to go through its just ridiculous!" -> Proceed to gain the ability to beat people to death with a fish while dressed up as one of the aliens from the movie Alien.
People need to sit back and realize how wacky or strange the game world is before saying something wont fit or cant be added because X or Y
with the new speeds added to mounts the bike should look a lot cooler! :)
That isn't even an argument, you didn't say anything to address the issues other than "I want it, stop dissing it". Bikes are a vehicle that have one wheel in front of the other, and have no way of turning on the spot (I don't care if this is a fantasy game, things still need to look like they make sense), horses can turn on the spot as much as humans can, and the simple fact is that the bike doesn't meet the requirements for becoming a mount. There are no mounts in the game with wheels, period, and this particular mount cannot turn the way that mounts in this game can, and that is a serious issue. How would this mount turn? how would this mount jump? how would this mount solve the collision detection considering how long and thin it is? How would this mount handle any kind of terrain that isn't roads without looking like its got the silliest suspension in the world?
The bike does fit into the world, it doesn't look out of place with garlean tech. Bikes as a concept though, do present problems for the mount system, and THAT is what would look stupid, read my point above and please try to explain how it would be ok.
For those who wanna see the source material as to why we're super likely to get this bike added in with the mount speed increase -

All these things point to much more than likely appearing during Stormblood in some form or another. I remember a very similar thing happening for a mount just before 2.0.... same discussions too...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8RuIXX4ntc
Currently all mounts do the janky instant turn so thats not really a valid complaint, we already see giant magitek armor mounts snap turning on a dime so a massive bike which is known to do 360 spins just by using the legs of the rider in its source material then it doing the same is no big deal.
Also in source material we see the bike hiked up to drive up a falling support pillar so jumping is also non issue.
Collision will never be solved, I can plant my face into a building by playing dead or sitting so one should not expect a mount to follow collision rules down to the wire cuz if mounts did follow collision closely we would not be able to walk out of Mor Dhona on the magitek mount since even midlanders smack their faces on the gates.
The bike would be following the same funky rules current mounts follow so I dont see whats so drastically different other than it uses wheels.
And speaking of janky movement: players can look amazingly stupid too with proper mashing of the W and E key to move forward and sideways at the same time which causes your character to get stuck in a single a frame of animation of running so they are just sliding around till you stop mashing. Movement is and always will be weird in this game.
Mounts in this game can turn by sliding sideways without moving their legs. Just right click anywhere and move your mouse to the left and right. I dare say this mount could do the same.
So this is just about the A-D turning animation when standing. You know what? Make it a wheelie and shoot fire out of one side to make it look like a propulsion engine, done.
In the end, the entire argument boils down to:
"I like it, I want it." and
"I don't like it, keep it away."
And both sides can make creative use of made-up arguments to support their respective view.
Its so funny when people try to use real life physics as an argument against the bike, when the actual bike in question was created in a fantasy game where you had aliens from space, talking dogs, magic, giant monsters, etc etc.
and THEN try to use that argument to say it doesn't fit in this game when the dev team literally said "oh, you can breathe underwater because magic. Your tiger can also breathe underwater because magic"
So we are ok with the "just magic" reasons. We gonna let that slide. But a motorcycle can't be in this game because it has wheels, and realistically cannot turn, it cannot jump, you also have to apply collision detection and the bike doesn't have that, and every other real life reason you can think of.
OK guys.
The 'it's magic' excuse is used for things that are plausibly magical. Like giant monsters and spells to let you breath underwater. The bike isn't magic, and if it was magic it wouldn't even need wheels.
In fact, problem solved, replace the wheels with magitek hover engines or something. Hover bike can plausibly fly, jump, turn in place and bounce all over Eorzeas bumpy terrain. People who want a motorbike instead get a flying motorbike, people who still at least somewhat care for immersion don't have to see janky wheeled vehicles jumping up and down. Everyone should be happy with that, right?
1) No experience with large animals is necessary for knowledge of how momentum works. Even a human cannot start at top speed and stop in a spot from a sprint. Even a human cannot instantly turn around in a split second, though we are probably the best-suited animals to turn in spot in the first place in the whole wide world.
2) Why can't a bike turn in place?! Did none of you hear of four-wheel steering?! I mean, I know that it's not popular for bikes and most city cars, but what's the problem with a hi-tech bike with wide tires having both of its wheels turn?! That allows both for moving to side and for on-the-spot turns while looking perfectly realistic.
3) What's the problem with jumps as well?! Add a "rocket" effect from its exhausts pointing down and voila.
I'm not a fan of weird, out-of-place costumes, mounts and whatever myself. I abhor all those "for fun" promotional costumes or stuff put into games from various cooperations with other franchises. But this bike actually fits the world as presented better than a LOT of things that many of the people against it probably would be hyped for. Just make it attainable from a location with that technology available and it'd still be reasonable to find it outside of that.
Don't like it?! Don't use it. I wouldn't, but why want to bar others from it?!
The video of the bike being driven actually looked pretty decent. I understand the devs concern when they actually set it to current mount speed though. It does look slow. I would still have used it though, the first speed setting made it look pretty cool. In past threads I already stated that the bike should just have an ability similar to the magitek mounts that have cannons. The bike could have a "Sprint" or "booster" kind of setting that increases speed temporarily.
I'm sorry but with the existence of the whisper a go go, anything goes, "fits in the game", or not. Even the Regalia from ff15 is doable and imagine how silly it's going to look jumping around and doing the sharpest turns, and spinning around in circles!
OH NO MUH PRECIOUS NON EXISTANT IMMURSION!!
People pls.
I wouldn't mind having the bike myself they could have it so the new areas are no fly zones giving people reason for something like cloud bike
Yes, because "just magic" is context, the physics of the bike isn't contradictory to the lore, it is contradictory to game design, you are mixing up what it is that doesn't make sense. I can give myself the suspension of disbelief of a tiger flying so long as I am given context and suitable animations, but if I am given no context and the tiger just no-clips its way through the world, that is extremely poor implementation. The problem with the bike is that it presents contextual challenges within the movement design, and that has nothing to do with lore or context within the world.
You say this is a fantasy game, but it still needs to stick to its own rules regarding physics (which in this case is close to real world)

Anyone not wanting this needs to seek out psychological help asap. lol
I don't like the bike. I'm probably not going to get it if it was available. Heck I'll probably cringe every time I see it in game.
I don't see any valid reason why the devs couldn't implement it once they're satisfied with it.
We already have plenty of mounts that are as "immersion breaking" as the bike, if not worse.
Still waiting for my chance to get the flying cloud as a EU player so I don't see why you folks can't have your bike.
You amateurs.
I want THIS Mount:

Four-seater. This is a thing.
This is actually not all that bad of an idea if you think about it. FC's should have a mount they can customize (colors, decals, shape, mods, etc) and use at a certain rank freely. The mount can be created through the workshop. Doesn't necessarily have to be the regalia but the overall concept and look of the vehicle could be drawn off it. I actually have 3 friends I play with regularly and this would be bangin to cruise around in and chat while only 1 person has to do the movements. Be even cooler if passengers could change positions on the vehicle and whatnot but that might be asking too much.
I am kinda fine with a FF14 looking motor bike but please no car. Maybe make a four seater airship that is not enabled in cities because it would probably be too big. Or maybe a big chocobo carriage. At least those still kinda look like they would fit Eorzea and would be able to move on the ground.
Heck even that awful Yokai mount is hovering over the ground because there are barely any tracks to travel on.
Necroing my ancient thread because I win in the end.
Congratz. Use to enjoy reading this when at work and laughing about how people argue it breaks immersion or doesn't fit. Really..
Breaks immersion... Right. *pats her magitek armour*
Yup.
Look, anything can be handwaved as advanced tech through research and use of Allagan tech. Look at Aulus mal Asina's floating chair that is now a mount for people from the Feast. Is THAT breaking your precious immersion? The bike is not THAT far off... slap some shiny lights on it like his chair and it wouldn't be that much different. Just smile and nod... the difference is that it is from FFVII and not FFXIV first. That's ALL. Move along and stop with the 'mai immursun' here. Tech is tech at this point, ESPECIALLY since we're marching our way story-wise right into Garlemald now.
EDIT: ACTUALLY... LET ME EDIT THIS.... We have ALREADY seen motorcycle-type enemies in Castrum Abania and Ala Mhigo dungeon? So ummm... Yeah. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They were beings that were hideously morphed into devices... which leads one to believe a purely mechanical device already exists or is known about. Either way... a real sleeker vehicle shouldn't break lore any more than abominations like those seen in there. Just saying. But you do you, I suppose.
WE HAVE A ROBOT GORILLA MOUNT
clouds bike is nothing
I'll respect the opposite opinion on this but I'm with the "this is within the realm of possibilities" that has been provided within the world. Also the flying chair and gorilla mount are hilarious examples. Personally see the Falcon, ground form, as contribution to this too. It has wheels.
I'm still holding out hope for a flying gaelikitten mount.
