Second : PoD is more for Max Level for Max tomes on later floors IF you have a good team floors 100-200 give nice sets and mostly are speed runs.
Third and MOST important: Relics are designed to be a grind for those who don't want to do constant savage, EX, Diadem now, and or one to create a weapon more flexible to their needs. Going from 300 tomes to 150 isn't a bad nerf. IF anything it's too much a of a nerf in my opinion.
The key word here is patience and accepting the fact that the way you approach the farming of tomes will burn you out. If I play 4-6 hours a day on my day off, with a solid group I can get close to 2k+ tomes. (closer to 3k ) Farm gear to trade for seals which I use for Crafting materials from airships to start my next one. Personally I don't like to depend on an FC, hence I started my own, one man FC, and just recently opened my doors to people to help them. Once I show them my routine they go off on their own and sometimes ask me to help them as a tank just because they know how I do runs. If you solo you are at the mercy of others for help no matter how you do it. IF you have some connections on and off it helps. 4/5 relics were done before Nerf so trust me THERE is a huge difference in time spent. On a key note. IF you don't like repeat dungeons/raids a relic may not be for you. Not to discourage you, but if you just want the achievement, glamor, story line waiting for further nerfs would be your best bet. Longer wait for them, if any. OR just do current Shire wep as an alternative and set relics as a " As I get tomes " project. That's what I'm doing for jobs all relics and will probably not even use. I do relics just for the achievements and story line really. I feel you, however unlike you I may have more patience. I still play FFXI and believe you. You have no idea what a GRIND really is unless you do Relic, Myth, Empy, and ultimate on FFXI.
As a business model, SE has a solid plan. ( I mayor in business/software engineering ) It's an option, they try to please and players still complain. Overall they are very fair and if anything making it easier. So the demand is there and if anything they are holding pretty strong because they take all perspectives into consideration. Do you have any idea how hard it is to program at times ? Trust me depending on the group, testing, debugging, I would rather spend it my time and money on new content then go back and nerf what is already working the way it should. Should they nerf it more and just sell umbrite at the mog station? If so they should make a relic weapon with less power to show difference between hard work and cash shops.
