I don't get the deal either. Pop will drop some, but they'll get money to pay the dev team. Fun Fact: the population will drop much more if they run out of money to pay the dev team.

10 dollars a month (or 12?) isn't that much either.... give up three cups of coffee a month and you've got it paid for. FFXIV, in it's current state, is easily worth three cups of store-bought coffee / month to me. And if it's been worth enough to you that you've bothered playing it/getting to 50/doing the (slim, till now) content available, I'm surprised you don't see it as worth that sum.

Only argument really out there I can see is an absolute "it's never worth paying for an unfinished product, simply on principle" argument. And that's great. I can't disprove that in anyway, only disagree with it. But I can say that arguments and life-choices based 100% on principle and 0% on compromise often end up getting you in places you might rather not be.

Look at the road-map. They start charging next month, none of this stuff is even planned to release until April-July!

I think some people have become used to the idea that for the price of 3 cups of coffee they could play FFXIV... and have 3 cups of coffee. :p

SE has some pretty big stones. I'll give them that much. Quite honestly, I never thought they would charge for this game. It's already in the minds eye that this game is buy to play. It's been like that for over a year, and I'd say the only reason it has the population it does is because it's free. When the game finally starts seeing new players and having some positivity surrounding it, they're going to charge a monthly sub fee? 15 bucks is nothing, but I'm not going to pay for a half-finished game (Yoshi's words.)

I mean really, when you're still developing fundamental systems like the XP system, battle system, LS management, LFG tool, crafting, server structure, game engine, world design etc. then you have absolutely no business charging someone for that product. By this point, I expect an MMO to be focused on adding more content and more mechanics. Not working on the fundamentals.

I'm here to stay.

i do agree with you to an extent. let me say if you look at my profile i am very active and play quite a bit. i am part of some fantastic linkshells and enjoy their company.

my thing is not an absolute i would not pay for an unfinished product because i bought the crysta to pay for the game when it first came out with as bad as it was then. my issue was they stated that they were not going to charge because it was not up to their standards and recently have stated how bad of shape it is still in.

in other words i would have willingly paid for the game on release because that was what was expected, but once they said they were not going to charge until they got the game fixed i did expect the fixes for server, battle, and the other things to be taken care of before they asked for my money.

don't tell me we are going to fix the game and not charge you until then and then turn around and say we know the game is broken, but we are going to charge you now to fix it. those 2 statements directly conflict with each other.

Your problem is that they told us about these changes that were coming regardless *before* starting to take sub fees. Timing is your only issue here.

The real reason they jumped on the PL issue so fast, so they could drop the Pay2play bomb on us...

I think this sums it up perfectly; give the organisation some money to pay for their employees whilst letting customers have a cheaper price while the game is being made to standard.

I am so happy for this most trolls will leave and hopefully it will get a lot more peaceful in here

the forum mods are going to have a field day today lol. wonder how yoshi will take the news about the huge amount of rage he will now get (even though it might not be his choice) and some people will stop thinking he is the FFXIV savior and more of a clown who charges for betas like wada. Kinda feel bad, but someone needs to tell those guys at SE that they are making a huge mistake charging before 2.0

Actually if you read the roadmap Closed Beta Testing for PS3 is between Oct and Dec of next year. Do not expect release til Mar of 2013.

Trolls will be their reguardless. Now think about the population dropping like a brick. Some servers are already pretty dinky, its only gonna get worse...and when some people get bored because the servers are empty, or their LS mates/friends dont want to pay, they will in turn stop playing.

it just seems like a giant spiral downwards. Its only going to hurt their future #s later down the line tbh. people will not want to play until 2.0, thats pretty much a full year for them to get into another game or forget this one. SWTOR is almost here and its garunteed to take people away....now that they wanna charge for a game that was clearly stated to be "50%" done to their standards....its only going to be worse.

I'm enjoying the piss out of the game and don't mind paying a sub for it at all.

Think of all the fanboys that will get to spend $200 for a beta over 14months. They will cry when 2.0 gets endlessly delayed knowing that their precious, horribly broken FFXIV is exactly what they're paying for.

As many others have stated, I don't think we should be charged for a game that isn't finished. It would be like, for example, the makers of SWTOR started charging it's users $12 a month, a year before the game was released. Who would honestly do that?

At the same time, I understand SE's need to grab money from the game to fix the game. I just think it's a bit too early to start charging.

If the REAL game is coming out Dec 2012, and SE needs the money that badly, they should focus their money on getting other big games released first (FFXIIIversus, etc) then use that money to fund FFXIV until next Dec, or Nov at least, THEN start charging.

I would have absolutely no problems with that idea.

While you think you are being clever, cool, or whatever your motivation is. You are not really helping the game out whatsoever. People that leave and probably find other games to play, may think back in a years time when 2.0 is released and go "nah, fuck it, too many idiots ruin the community to even give that game another chance". And those idiots are going to be the ones that have a say in how its developed.

It doesn't worth to pay for this game atm and probably will worth it after "Version 2.0" but not now. It just sucks.

I would gladly pay now. I've done a bit of polling in my LS and I think the majority of folks, at least in my LS, agree.

I will admit I just got to work and didn't read 11 pages but I really would like the option to just buy a lifetime membership for 200-300 dollars and be done with it. I don't I will be playing this game for a long time. Maybe other people would too I don't know but it might give them a bigger influx when subscriptions go live.

they don't care if 90% of the people leave now they-ll still get the 10% cash. im not saying it will be 90 and 10, i don't know what the numbers will be. All i know is something is better then nothing.

This is why they don't care, they are gonna start re-marketing the game in the summer and building hype at game shows and stuff. They will get all the subs they need in due time. Sucks for us though, they should cut the rate to 50% since that what they consider the game.

Not a very good idea. Just imagine you were someone who never really followed this game but heard it was broken. Then you hear "Lifetime subscription." I know I would go like "Wow, really?"

You can barely get some people to pay the minimum fee. The fact that the game has been out for a year for free probably reflects the condition it has been in. This, on top of them remodeling the entire game, it would be quite a gamble. But it's good to have choices I suppose.

I work, i earn money, i enjoy FFXIV, ill gladly pay monthly fee. Heck even 1 trip to the cinema sets you back double of what it costs for a monthly fee, and the movie only last 90 minutes. For me, 12.99, or rather 18.99euro is good value as to what I get in return.

At least forums will be rid of some nasty trolls, cause I dont think they want to Pay To Whine. XD

Hehe, us who dont mind paying to play, will pave in a new golden age for the future of FFXIV, and then the moaning forum trolls will come back in droves. Going, yeah SWtor/GW2 did end up sucking in the end. :)
Just like any other overly hyped up MMOs so far. Aoc, Aion, Warhammer, Rift. All got such high ratings. But then after people got past the smoke and mirrors, they saw it for what it really was.

What I don't get is why people who don't want to pay have been playing all this time? I certainly wouldn't waste my time on something that I knew was going to be destroyed at a certain point in time. In this case a payment destroying your FFXIV character.

I'm happy to pay to enjoy content like Darkhold, Ifrit and the strongholds. I can live with the current area designs and UI for now. The advantage I will have over PS3 players in terms of levels, gear and gil makes playing worth it too.

Ok there seems to be abit of confusion here. Lets hope i can clear it up.

They are going to start charging us this year then this time next year make it free again till the release of 2.0

I for one think they should wait till patch 1.21 befor billing system so i wont be paying till the patch comes out!

Im looking forward to getting rid of all the riff-raff.

Two things:

Final Fantasy XIV has about as much content now as a game should have on launch

If you or many other people quit, that still doesn't matter. The game is FREE meaning they don't make money off of you now anyways so if you leave how does that change? They'll be making money.

If your not happy. Quit and come back for 2.0 when you get a free 30 days.

We payed for the game already. It's their responsibility to provide us with a product worth the subscription. Not our responsibility to blindly give them money to support an inferior product.
