That doesn't mean there will be a thread for everything. For example, if the weapons weren't so oversized I am pretty sure people would still find them cool, but there would be no negative backlash as there is currently. People would like them, some more, some less, but it would only come down to personal preferences. Such is not the case here.Quote:
Therefore forums will always have more negative threads than positives.
What i liked from those new weapons is that they look that you made them from ifrit, that shows a lot of what crafting and killing mobs are in this game, you can take a beast an make a weapon with it, yes the bow looks alittle bit over the top but i like it, i would prefer to have mats than full made gear, i dont like everything silver plate handed, besides maybe you could get an ifrit sword +3 if crafted, think about it :D, I agree getting full made gear if you take the weapon of the boss you killed like a garlean commander.
EDIT: and about what firon said is true there are a lot of weapons and gear that dont look any close to reality and were great, how badass would a DRK look if it had a great sword like that?
I'm pretty sure in the days of cavemen, one caveman wouldn't complain to another caveman because the bone he was using to club wooly mammoths to death with was too big...
Actually, no matter how proportionate they were, this thread or a thread like it would exist just because they glow, if not for some other unnecessary reason.
^ That is what I want to say, but I know better. You clearly surf these forums quite a lot, and also do not play the game nearly as much. Therefore I think my reaction can be adequately summed up as this.
To you anything not positive and optimistic would be automatically a backlash.
It certainly makes the matters slightly worse in this case. More than a sum of its parts.Quote:

Whatcha smokin' over there, I'm holding onto a bastard sword right now (that I own from being a trained combatant in this weapon style) and it weighs at least 8-10lbs, and my Sensei, Master, Maestro, what ever you want to name him, has one (that he uses to teach the style that weighs around 15lbs and its a monster, and its historically proportionate to the weapons of that time period)Quote:

don't forget the other weapons

Go look it up bro Real 2-handed swords not replica;'s are about 5Ibl's
Here you go linky http://www.thearma.com/essays/2HGS.html
Or you can call them Zweihänder those are the type of 2-handed sword SE tends to use for G.Swords
maybe i should have picked a less rage inspiring title like "What do you think about the Art Design choices?"
.....I created a monster.
Here's a great idea.
Let's all load up Final Fantasy X-2, and all of those who think the weapons featured in it aren't suitable for a Final Fantasy game shout through out of their window through a megaphone "Not good enough for Final Fantasy." for each weapon they think is wrong.
If you get arrested for noise pollution, you're wrong in your assumption.
..Other weapons, from other games, that have different art styles & themes?
For mentioning Final Fantasy XIII and its sequel: here's a present.
I think the new designs are awesome, except the mage weapons look too thick. But let the artists be artists.. for God's sake, it's at most like 3 months worth of weapons. More importantly, you should be worried about how to hold on to that one weapon you do end up really liking.
Depends on your blade type bro, In real life I am holding onto a REAL bastard sword (great sword =/= bastard sword there are differences) and it weighs over 5 lbs and I've trained with swords that were heavier than that. I'd take what I can hold in my hands over a link someone is providing any day for my facts (especially on the internet)
Overall the style of FFXIV is more on a realistic approach. The items have great detail, and are not over the top.
However, if I am going to kill the God of Fire, I expect major fantasy elements on the loot I get from it.
Looking at the new weapons from the Bowl of Embers, I see a healthy balance of both detail and adherence to the style of the game, as well as sufficient representation of the weapon's divine, fantastic origin.
The weapons designs are great and do not conflict the game's art style.
I think there is one small tiny teenie weenie important factor playing in here.
There have been so many fantasy games in the decades of video gaming that's it's very difficult to make clothes and weapons featured in them look unique.
Artists are going to have to branch out to more unusual designs in order to keep the appearance fresh instead of looking like a copy of something else.
That being said, the Ifrit weaponry looks quite unique, so I think they did a good job on them.
I think you're right. :)
To answer your question more directly (and to get this thread back on topic, I hope), Aeris and Yuna (FFX version) are my favorite characters in FF and any of the design choices associated with them are generally my favorite.
I do also like Cloud's swords (so no, the weapon size is not a big deal to me), along with many of the other swords made for FF. I do prefer a more traditional double-edge sword as opposed to the ones from FFX with the hook edge.

Why, because by human nature people are more likely to complain that compliment. When someone is happy with something and someone challenges it, they feel a need to defend it.
It's the same as if someone had posted a thread in support of the weapons. If I went and posted a thread saying how much I liked the Ifrit weapons you don't think people won't post disagreeing with my statement?
And yes that is the case here and now... as you see this person made a thread explaining why they didn't like it. As you see a lot of people are posting on here saying they IN FACT like them. Even on that big thread they were talking about another person also pointed out that even on that other thread of complains people were positing saying they liked the weapons.
It is MY personal preference that I like the weapons.
It is the OPs person preference that they don't like the weapon.
Does that mean I am right and the OP is wrong, or vice verse. No, it means that we just have differing opinions... no ones opinion in this is right or wrong, it is all about personal preference. The OP isn't wrong, I just don't agree with their opinion and there is nothing wrong with that.
If you look though this forum every negative thread with have people disagreeing, and every positive thread will have people disagreeing. Welcome to a thing called an opinion.
Also I have to disagree... even if the weapons were less bulky people would STILL complain because you're missing one key factor. People aren't just complaining about the SIZE but also the DESIGN and the GLOWING effect.
Take away the bulk and you still have design and glow for people to complain about. I mean seriously, SE GIVES people 200 extra inventory... whats wrong with that?? And people STILL complained. I'm sorry but you're arguments aren't logical and seem very narrow in view.
They look fine to me and not too overdone on the glow effect. Having said that, the bow is a little big.
What's the big glowing ice-cream cone that Roegadyn is using?
A culinarian weapon O.o/?
Oh here I found a thread about the Ifrit loot where the OP did start it by saying that the loot looks awesome, so there is your positive thread! :D

I 100% agree with the statement of Gramul. It was an essential aspect for me choosing to play this game, since the design was natural, and when it comes to weapons even realistic. These new lava glowing things are like from annother world rather than from eorzea.
Please no more uber size weapons !!
