Good thing we aren't playing a realistic game. Whatever would those mages do?

Boob curvature built into your armor is still sexualizing in purpose. It's been proven to be impractical and is primarily drawn by artists for two reasons - because they still want tits to ogle while still calling their character "reasonably armored" or because they genuinely don't understand how armor works and draw it form-fitting with the underlying female anatomy they produce.
S-E, please don't sexualize female armor that isn't also sexualized for males. Please definitely don't sexualize iconic jobs that have no sexual connotation to begin with. Differences in silhouette are fine, skintight boobwear is not. This isn't a request for 'perfectly realistic' armor, just a consistency in tone and treatment between male and female characters that's been present and mostly kept intact since the game came out.
Also seriously, I know your artists are into midriff which is why the DRG bellyhole exists for women and not men.
Yup, seems practical

Okay seriously, I don't get this crap at all, it's like all the prudes(pardon my language but someone will get offended anyways so whatever) who have issues with "sexism" migrate all to this game, yet still don't understand the point of options. I don't get the point of practical or impractical in the same damn world where Bahamut and Ifrit is around. Where Primals in general should be able to kill you just by grabbing you and squeezing, damn the armor. I find it SO HILARIOUS how people care about practicality when Mages don't even WEAR armor and there's no in-game explanation why. Hell, when people scream about practicality when every other cutscene in the MULTIVERSE OF THE SERIES, armor would actually hamper far more than help.
This is an fantasy series people, reality has no place in it, stop talking about practicality as if it's a thing.
Yeap practical for sure. I don't see any arrows in the uncovered parts or am i missing those? Oddly enough the 300 took on an entire army dressed this way and only lost due to a traitor in their ranks. Get over it it's a fantasy game and as such one can bend the rules a bit for fun.

You didn't actually read my post past the first line or two did you?
God, it's almost like I wrote about artistic purpose being the key issue rather than practicality or something, and someone took that as me being anti-sex and a prude. Honey, I wear the Coliseum set when I feel like it as much as you do and don't have a single problem with it.
I just wish we had better options than man-gear (noct lorica for example) or stripper (coliseum gear). There are other games with made to fit armor that look good. I think the DRG AF gear is splendid, but for that exposed belly. =_=
I kind of wonder how many against the too-much-exposed-skin look are women irl. I am. I want to look bad-ass, not like a hooker (or like a freight train either >< )
Did and my post still counts for that. You are still talking about don't make outfits because not practical and "sexist" and "not artistic"...which you later on basically fall flat on your ass as you deny the artists any right to be CREATIVE. Being "consistent" should not be a goal, it should be an OPTION. They can make sexy armor, they can make unisex armor, they can make ridiculous bikini armor, just give people OPTIONS! By saying you don't want this but still act you want something else, you might as well tell them "Don't make jack ever"
Just came here to say that men can't say a thing about sexism.
BYES
I asked specifically for AF armor, and no other set in the game, to be artistically consistent between genders, because they are iconic pieces of Final Fantasy lore. Because I would like the option to have an armor set that lets me represent my female character as a Dark Knight in the same way male characters do, whereas the option to wear sexy bikini armor already exists and will continue to be expanded upon by other means.
The artists are not creating a means of personal expression. They are creating products for a video game to be sold under capitalism, which will also be 'worn' by peoples' virtual characters, and I'm giving them my feedback as to what I'd like to see. They may inherently personally express their own creativity through the art they create, but the purpose of that is considered incidental and they will go through multiple revisions at the demands of their leaders (some of whom are not artists) regardless of what we do or say.
There is a long established fact that depictions of women in popular media, especially games but really everywhere, are designed for one audience: straight males. Don't mistake me; sexy costumes are awesome, sexy costumes are cool. But when the basis for differentiating a male vs female costume is that the female costume is less revealing, solely because it's a female costume and thus should be sexy; that is sexist. You can argue that sexism isn't a bad thing, you can argue that this particular brand of sexism is relatively harmless, but you don't get to say it's not sexist. You cant have your cheesecake and eat it to.
And yes, I understand sexist is a meanie word and how dare anyone call anybody such a meanie word and have you no respect and it's not my game and why am I making demands how entitled , etc etc etc. For most people sexism isn't something that is done maliciously or even consciously. It's just an inherent bias in the way we think about men vs women. "Men should be powerful, women should be sexy." I'm not attacking anyone, my favorite X Man is Emma Frost, but one google search can tell you that she is the very definition of cheesecake. That's the way it is. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't think about our attitudes. If the dragoon armor will be sexy it should be because dragoons are sexy and both male and female costumes should reflect that.
By the way, it is just as sexist to assume that DRK AF armor will be made sexy for the simple fact that it is intended for females. Armor in this game should be made to look like something that both the men and women that will be wearing it would agree that they would want to wear, and it should be similar though not necessarily identical in design across both genders. Just tossing male armor on a female doesn't make it gender-neutral, and just altering armor to female silhouettes doesn't make it cheesecake.
Of all the AF's, only Dragoon's is truly bad (maybe BRD's too), and that's just because of the belly window. The rest of the DRG armor is perfectly fine. I think a more productive thread than either this or the other thread would be to ask that the female DRG belly window be closed once and for all....in fact, just give me a few minutes. >_>
If people want sexy armor, it should be available to all genders. Don't force women (or men, for that matter) into the gender role boxes. It's not cool.
You want to be a female wearing a metal bikini, the Coliseum/Light Steel set is right there, ripe for the taking. The DoA Beach Volleyball look? There are swimsuits available. And if you want more, ask for new gear. Don't ask for gender variants to the same piece of gear. Pretty sure that's sexist. Also, asking for gender changes would completely undermine the gender equality in 99% of gear sets already in the game.
Asking for a gender variant to a single piece of gear is like asking "I want this design, but I don't want the opposite sex wearing the same design." If you want to alter the Dark Knight AF to show skin, do it for both genders. Don't do it for just one.
I can't stress enough that there is already "sexy" gear available and glamour prisms to match. Please do not ruin Dark Knight for people who want to take the job seriously.
Yeeeaaahhhh, about that....
Where did you get your idea that female DRK AF is going to be "a boob window with a side of thighs"? Oh, that's right. You made it up. You and everyone else using that same argument. Because you're conflating "female armor" with "female oversexualization".
1. Last time I checked, DRK AF never looked like that before. Even the most memorable one looked EXACTLY like Cecil's or had a bit more armor plating, but was still on some level skintight. This one just looks like a "darker" PLD outfit so yeah, it doesn't tickle my fancy like Monk AF or DRG AF. And that's the thing, I mainly want it to be FORM FITTING LIKE A DRK OUTFIT SHOULD, men, women, I don't care. The rest of it, I can see your point, but atleast make it different THAN PALADIN.
2. Yeah no, sorry bro, doesn't work like that. By that logic, they SHOULD just do a hack job and just make stuff because of business. They could easily toss out the same crap and call it "better" and make it exactly the same(Like TERA). FFXIV actually DOES give some differences and stylish armor here and there. So yes, it still falls under artistic expression, not just business.
I play both genders because I like the femininity of one and masculinity of the other. Making armours from both genders look the same is something hardly anyone wants and those that do want it would whine and complain if had to wear an ugly male/female version just because both gendered versions had to look the same as the ugly gendered one. As long as you have choices which you very much do if don't like the look of a set for whatever reason then it's fine as it stands for me.
You prefer the male version? play a male character. Also have the option if I don't like a specific set or armour to glamour it, I have glamoured a lot of armour in this game for both male and female versions because I did not like something about them but I don't come screaming and whining on here every time a set pops up that has one or more things I do not like...whether one covers too little or one covers too much, whether do not like the shape or the colour of a certain piece within a set we have the option of changing it one way or another to something we do like but you are not required to like every gear set or every piece from every set.
In the end can't please everyone all of the time but some women like the female current version of that armour and some don't, some men like the current female version of it and some don't but not every armour must conform to only your preferences. I dislike the colosseum armour for example on female characters and male ones but you don't see me whining about it all the time because it's one armour set out of a vast array of others and if I do not like something about it I glamour to replace it with one I do like.
Not every piece of armour is going to look exactly how you want it in game but at least you have the option of replacing it visually with one do like and have the option of playing a female or male version is prefer how their armours look. Differences is good, choices is good and we have both those things of which I am glad.
Belly buttons aside, most of the armor that looks "the same" on both genders is actually realistic. Real female armor doesn't have boob breastplates, they look eerly similar to male armor. The only real differences lies on the shoulder-to-waist ratios.
I was actually really happy to see the female knight on the new quests to have actual female armor on her. Flattened chest but adjusted hips. Looked really neat too.
Seriously you're going to base an argument on "realistically unsafe" in an fantasy rpg game??
Right SE better not implement those flying black chocobos in 3.0 because those tiny wings are never going provide enough lift to be realistically safe.
*rolls eyes*
Way to ignore almost everything I said above minus one sentence comprised of half dozen words and I never said 'herp' so if your going to whine about something I said then at least get what I said right...I never said that was the only option open to you, it was one option out of many I listed when do not like the look of one piece of armour for a specific gender of which applies to either gender especially if prefer the other genders version, funny how you also failed to respond to 99% of the rest of the post probably because it points out the flaws in your argument.
I just wanna add my two cents to this...
I really liked the way they handled warrior af.

Granted, the boob plate could have been handled much better but there is a subtle design difference between the two genders.
Alternatively, go the FFXI route and make the armor skimpy on both genders. (To be fair, XIV has been really good about that where it applies i.e. coliseum set )
http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy...ka-Warrior.jpg (clearly this is a hume o.O )
http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2.../e1/WAR_AF.JPG
Personally, I'd like to have no clipping with the 'skirt' part since I clip into everything that goes below the knees -_-;; .. it's why all of my robes get glamored.
Secondly, rather then simply a "male" and "female" version of the armor, I'd also like to see some racial differences between each set so that it looks that each armor set is tailored to a specific race. =\ The noct set really was a good example of how 'one size fits all' really doesn't apply.
If they did add gender differences between the armors then I'd want them to be subtle differences at best.
Oh and I'd rather they didn't repeat the same silliness they did with the DRG af. That was so disappointing.... That belly window... all I ever see is 'STAB ME HERE! DO IT! DOOOEEEETTTT!'
Easy fix: add a /belly emote. :D
Hope someone didn't already say this :P
Make DRK male only.
And only as starting class.
Yes I like to watch the world burn.
This thread isn't asking for options. Just the opposite, it's asking to take away options. It's asking to take away the option to play a female character as a dark knight who actually looks like a dark knight.
If you simply want another sexy armour alternative for your glamour, then sure, I'm all for it, and I suspect most of the other people complaining here are as well. (Several of them have already said so.) This thread is about whether people who want that should take the dark knight AF armour for that purpose. And to make it worse, they've asked to take away the option of having a dark knight specifically from one gender, while still allowing the other gender to have it.
You want a sexy armour outfit, fine. Ask for a new sexy armour outfit to be added for both genders. Then glamour it onto whichever tank class you want. But don't ask for one particular gender to lose their dark knight gear in the process.
Great. You've finally made a valid point. It'd be nice if more of the discussion on this topic was focused on what sort of armour is best suited to the Dark Knight image, without trying to make that image into something different for women than it is for men.
As for being skintight, except for a slight flare on the shoulder plates (which is kind of necessary if you're going to have shoulder plates but still be able to move your arms), the rest of that DRK concept art looks fairly skintight to me. Of course, for that to hold true, they'll have to make sure that the versions for all ten race/gender combinations actually fit (which they've been known to fail on in a couple other cases), but so long as they manage the fit properly, I won't have a problem with it in that regard.
I just don't want to see the female version coming out different than the male version. That's fine with some of the cosmetic sets, but really goes against the dark knight concept. When we see a dark knight, it shouldn't be visually obvious what gender they are. The whole rather menacing vibe they're supposed to have relies on "dark knight" being the immediate reaction rather than "man wearing dark armour" or "woman wearing dark armour". The person (including their gender) is subsumed by the role.
Somewhere on these forums GM's, mods and devs are laughing.
