for real alot of the spells look lame... and wtf is up with the raise spells looking like booty?
It's a definite possibility. As it stands right now, you must always be in active mode with weapon in hand while casting. Once they allow casting in passive mode, this has the chance of changing the animation.
Unfortunately, there is the chance they will simply remove the weapon from your hand (keeping it in it's passive position) and use the exact same stance and "glowing hand" animation already in the game. This would take far less time and energy to accomplish, so it seems the most likely short term outcome.
We can cross our fingers for a surprising level of casting animation revamp in the near future, but we will most likely only see minimal changes.
I really wish the devs would comment on this and address our concerns. :(

Both casting animations and their visual effects need to be adjusted!
Increasing the visibility (size) of the visual effects for spells better not be the extent of their changes.
Well, to answer directly to that (I have no idea on responses on this thread).
They already tweaked spell animations by making them bigger. We had enough of that xD
Casting animation is definitely lacking, although in most MMO's or even most games related to magic casting usually theres only two diversification on the animation, the Black magic is cast this way, the black magic that way. XI had four casting animations for each type of magic, summoning, black, white and blue (Dont remember how they handled scholar) So it will be interesting to see how the implement these changes, hope they are cool and varied.

"Looking into" something isn't the same as actually in the process of working to implement. Sounds like these positive changes are only in the planning stage. In other words, they are most likely many many moons away from implementation. Still, it's better than nothing. :D

So I am liking some of the casting animations. My favorite is the one used by archers. But yea, some variations would be nice.
Yeah I like the casting animations on the DoW classes lol
But I'm talking about improvements to the casting animations like magic circles, glowing sigils/runes, etc.
hopefully the animations will also include casting in passive mode.

I'm not even kidding (of course make it to where it fits in an MMO though). IX had some of the best spell animations in all of the FF titles (IMO). And they kinda went meh after. Although XIII's were very pretty~ Spells should be flashy, and make you go OHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHH when you cast one.
Holland: XI had different animations per magic type and they were job-independent. Black, White, Songs, Ninjutsu, Summons, and Blue. WHM BLM RDM PLD DRK SCH all used the same Black/White animations.
There were also a few job ability animations, though Dancer added greatly to that number and AFAIK is the

As I was saying, AFAIK DNC is the only XI job with a large number of unique JA animations. Also, JA animations that are also /emote commands.
I have a question.
Would it be possible to have spells like DoT or DoH produce a recurring effect on tic? This is something that always bugged me on FFXI -- there was a lack of feeling of effect/potency when using Effect over Time, spells. It was a particularly big deal for me as a SCH, since Helixes were pretty massive DoT.
That aside.. make Raise/Rebirth something worth actually seeing...
Glowing weapons/armor just gets old. When you get to higher levels and everyone is basically a mismatched blob of aura -- it gets really annoying and boring.
Glowing =/= effects. I wouldn't mind seeing certain weapons that had intricate effects around them -- like a high level elemental staff that had particles of its specific element orbiting the headpiece, or a sword with veins of magical energy that ran up and down it. Having a bland iron sword that glows isn't special -- its a total cop out.
I'd like to see actual elemental projectiles being released from mage wands and staffs, not just cast and see it hit the target.

Off topic, but maybe related: Now, I would like to ask if its possible, like in your first link, to have members of the development team respond directly to questions and concerns of the community whenever they have the time? I know they must be very busy with 1.19, but just like Yoshi takes the time to read the forums (Every day it seems), Id be happy to hear the voice of other Dev Team members and what they think of suggestions pertaining to their respective area of work.
Edit: I understand you are basically doing the same thing I am requesting, but still, seeing some other Dev team members responses in the JP forums would be cool. I understand also the responses would be completely in JP probably, but a translation after a few hours is not bad at all =p

way out of FF standards, All other FF's had a more prominent effect and feel in their magic.
This does make a big difference to the game.

would be awesome to see the old traditional version of Blizzard, with pillars of ice sprouting from the ground and trapping the enemy for a bit, and then the ice breaks and fades away. That the kind of effect i'd like to see. Right now, they aren't at all any interesting to look at. The only spell i like seeing is Fire, since it has that explosion sound.
