eh... pvp bad for group play... good if done right, but i don't know... i can't really imagine choosing a side, but in game games... that is, activities within the game that have pvp elements... could... Could be alright. I think world of warcraft style pvp really only makes sense if you choose at later levels, it doesn't makes sense to just enter the world aligned to one side of a polarized equation. It pretty much never happens that way irl.
However, irl... well... i n real lives... i could stab you or he or she anywhere, if it struck me as a good idea... i think that kind of gameplay should be encouraged... as long as systems are in place to fight crime...so to speak.
PvP will, hopefully, help to prevent the game from being: "I'm bored, guess i'll go AFK in town"
This is what FF11 can easily seem like and i would hate for FF14 to be so boring that there isn't hardly anything to do but sit around. Some of the more casual stuff they're adding is helping to prevent mass "lobby standing". They should add PvP & many other mini-games. FF11 is stand & wait most the time (even in abyssea).
SE, please actually support PvP more in this game. Ballista had so much potential yet the incentives and motivation were non-existent.
Closed PvP is what it will be. I'm not certain why there is a discussion on this. In a game such as this closed pvp is really the only option. It doesn't directly affect pve and it gives you something to do while you wait for more content lol.
Many players, many tastes..
don't force everyone into PvP.. like open world PvP.
Those players who want to PvP, they can go to the Colosseum and have fun.
(I didn't play XI, so I don't know what was it like)
I think its going to be fun. PvPvE would be epic. Will it happened? I hope so!
I don't see the pvp taking any major part in ranking up in FFXIV. I can't imagine it happening as anything more than friendly competition brenner style. The lore of the game doesn't lend itself to PvP in open world in any way. Except, of course, they could possibly add a duel function.
I choose "A" I need PVP! It will prevent me from running around in town... and in the future it will prevent me from jumping and running through town. :)
I'm only hoping a Closed Area PvP like Coliseum that doesn't affect PvE the slightest bit. Why can't people just enjoy their thing. It's not like all FF players are PvE Lovers only, there are PvP lovers too, and If that bothers the other they can just add what I said/posted previously. Also, PvP could be fun(If worked correctly) and it could be a way to test each other and have fun with friends.
EDIT:I kinda liked what madisonlee said, like spell effectiveness difference between PvP and PvE. Maybe SE can even make different [mode/job] for PvP, so that when you enter an Area for preparing, you'd switch job to it's PvP mode. This will allow SE to just enhance/lower a skill/spell's effectiveness, traits, etc(of PvP Modes Onry). I believe this "will not influence PvE at all".
No. FFXIV combat completly do not fit for PvP.
"I don't care if they add PVP, as long as it doesn't change how PVE plays. As stated before on this thread, the day that PVP affects my PVE experience, I'm out. Got enough of that shenanigans in WoW, I don't need it here."
This is exactly what I always say when PvP comes up as MMO PvP players are crying little 3 year olds with me me me attitudes. Below is story that will certainly play out in FFXIV unless PvP is kept under very close wraps ala FFXI.
PvP is emplimented in the game so Player X decides he is the best in the world with his super ego and decides its time to teach player Y and damn lesson.
Player X and Player Y do battle, and its a "truly epic fight..." but somewhow against all odds Player X OMGF loses!! Now Player X is the best in world so skill had nothing to do with the outcome (he is after much "more skilled" than Player Y is" of course, the problem is his chosen class sucks/gimped/etc.
Now Player X has to do something about this so he quickly gets on the forums and starting demanding super abilities to make his class "competitive and more fair compared to Player Y class" if said "minor changes" are not made in fairness Player X will be forced to quit and rally many others to quit as well.
Eventually Player X rallies many people to his cause and finally the developers give in and grant Player X and his class super abilities so that its "more fair" in PvP against Player Y class. Cries of victory are heard on Player X forums. What wisdow the developers have to see that Player Y class was "broken" all along. All is now well in MMO PvP land...
Now armed with "a totally fair" set of abilites Player X demands a rematch with Player Y!! Once again a "truly epic battle" takes place but this time.... Player X wins!! Now Player X thinks "there that is how it should be because I am the best in the world and my skill level (aka his super ultra inflated ego) is the highest amongst all who play this game... Player X and his forum freaks feel truly validated in their original complaints against Player Y class.
Meanwhile Player Y is feeling kinda shafted and quickly heads to the forums to loudly complain about how "broken Player X class now is" Player Y gathers many followers and people are now constantly spamming the boards with cries of outrage and boycotting the game and qutting etc etc until their class gets a few "minor buffs" to compete with Player X class. Fair is fair afterall.
Eventually the developers realize that the classes were "balanced" to begin and they think man "wth did we give Player X class super abilities to begin with?" Now the easiest thing to do would be to take them back from Player X class and explain that they made a mistake and should not attempt to rebalanced a PvE game to PvP standards.... but oh no not in MMO PvP super cry baby land, you never take stuff back... you grant Player Y exactly what they are demanding now too!!
Success and cheers of victory fly from Player Y class forum and all is well now... except no... meanwhile Player Z chosen class hasnt gotten any buffs at all. Now you see Player Z class is "really crappy" but the people who played that class have in the past always taken the "high ground" on issues centering around "PvP Balance". Alas this is the last straw!! They can no longer in good conscince sit quietly- action must be taken to make their chosen class "worth playing".
Anyways hopefully by now you can all see where this is headed and trust me this is not in anyway shape or form an exaggeration of reality... this has and will happen if FFXIV makes PvP into anything other than a tiny and I mean super tiny part of this game (ala FFXI) also with the implimentation making it CRYSTAL CLEAR that this game WILL NOT NOW OR EVER BE "BALANCED" around PvP crybaby nonsense.
Thanks for reading- that is all.
B.
Arena type PvP. There is a coliseum in Ul'dah. Wouldn't be surprised if that is what they did.
I challenge you to some Arena PvP and a game of Triple Triad!
That's exactly why I'm against PvP. This type of situation happens in normal gameplay as well, but it's worse in PvP. I'm the type of player that likes to get to know exactly how far I can push my character. It's difficult to do when the numbers keep getting changed every other week.
Couple that with the negativity it causes in the forums. As Rowyne said on page one, "I like Final Fantasy MMOs because there is one faction. It feels as though we come together for a common goal. I don't want that feeling to change." That's exactly how I feel.
If PvP could be implimented in a way so that it didn't affect PvE at all, I wouldn't care so much... sure, go knock yourselves out (literally :) ), but I've yet to see an mmo be able to do that.
Haven't played FFXI? XI's only PVP downfall was its annoying schedule or burdens to sign up for which discouraged participation, as well as a lack of any fun PVP oriented rewards and a complete lack of PVP balance (see the people talking about having spells have 1 effect in PVE and another in PVP, so that PVP balance -never- effects PVE; IE sleep lasts 30 seconds in PVE while 8 in PVP). But even with its downsides, XI's PVP was a blast for me (even being 1 shot all the time as SMN, it was still a ton of fun) and the only reason I quit that game was because PVP was such a burden to sign up for and people lacked motivation to do it even when bored, pretty much everyone stopped showing up to play the PVP.
No I did not play FFXI, unfortunantly. :( . The more I hear about it the more I think I would have liked it.
I don't understand how PvP didn't affect PvE, except that I think the playerbase sounded a bit more community focused, for one, and if there was no real rewards, there wasn't really anything for anyone to complain about. If you introduce rewards, I don't think it would be so simple.
Of course, I am speaking about something I had no experience with.
I look forward to PvP if it's just something like closed area and arena PvP. I'd LOVE to destr-er, have healthy sparring with my ls peeps :D
Those who are against PVP.. You don't have to play it. Leave it to those who'll enjoy it.
The fact of the matter is we don't know how it is going to work, we don't have the slightest of clue. How PvP will benefit the player. How will it work? large scale PvP, and PvE? PvPvE? PvP for sports? We simply don't know yet. I'm dying to find out. FF14 is without a doubt a high spec game so the possibility of large content revolving around this is huge.
As many have been said, it would be cool if you can do some gambling from other people PVP too.
Okay guys, listen closely because apparently this concept is extremely hard to understand:
PvP and PvE can be balanced separately. YES THIS IS POSSIBLE AS IT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE. For example, in FFXI during PvP all sleep spells cap at 1 minute duration and you gain resistance to it over time, multi-hit weapon skill damage is nerfed ONLY during PvP to prevent players from getting nearly 1 shot, provoke's properties are completely changed in PvP to make a player forced to target the person who provoked him, etc. If they can do this in FFXI, WHY NOT IN FFXIV?
PvP balance changes only affect PvE in OPEN PVP GAMES and FFXIV has already been confirmed to NOT BE ONE OF THOSE GAMES. Where are players pulling this negative attitude nonsense from? If you put it that way then PvE has MUCH more negative impact on the community than PvP. I mean seriously, what's worse: A guy slaps you in a PvP match and boasts about it, or that same guy steals major drops from your linkshell and quits? You don't see people crying about not putting in hard monsters with rare drops, so why cry about not putting PvP in because it's "bad for the community" (aka BS from people who don't know what they're actually talking about).
I still haven't seen a single good argument against the implementation of PvP. It's like these crazies that say there shouldn't be an auction house because they believe it'd be limited to 7 slots like in FFXI. Same deal with people thinking PvP in this game will be balanced like WoW when it absolutely will not be.
You mean PvP will make PvE be abandoned? Well that could happen If PvP is one of the major content in XIV but I don't think that'll happen. I believe SE knows well that their PvE is one of their greatest strength, and I don't hope for PvP to get the spotlight from PvE(seems impossible). I just want some PvP features for people to enjoy, because I know some people really love PvP, and PvP is not all about being rude to each other, spitting, There's a Fun in it too.
I can't promise you that, but I do believe SE isn't as stupid as to do that. Well XI succeeded :o
I don't mind PVP, but I really hope they have more styles that encourage teamwork or an objective type of PvP
I think an interesting twist would be like the Jagd areas from FFTA. Lawless.
So basicly an area like that would be a free for all. Maybe going in those kinda areas would be most recommended
with a party to watch your back. But never put these kinda areas in route of somewhere people have need to travel often.
I would love that kinda system in PvP. Getting killed randomly sucks but its an interesting-real world-concept to consider.
Edit:
Also Ul'dah has that gladiator arena which would be cool too. (someone probably mentioned that but i didnt read the whole thread)
Wow Demacia I had no idea SE eventually started to balance PVP that way, back in my day it was completely untouched as far as balance goes as far as I remember.
Makes me excited that since they did it in XI they will almost certainly do it here! :)
