Lol....Don't mean to derail the thread here, but Mogi wants everyone that's quitting their stuff, Mogi..when you finally quit one of these days can i have YOUR stuff? =D

Relevant loot in FATEs would require a less than 100% drop rate even with a Gold or else a respawn rate akin to Odin/Behemoth. It would wind up being no better than FFXI open world NMs minus the claim bots and with the lag issues of Odin/Behemoth. If they do it they'll want to make sure to put a large number in at once to spread the population around otherwise it'll be 200 people rotating from FATE to FATE until they get their drop, which could take a while since it dies too fast to get Gold. As much as I enjoyed FFXI, I do NOT want a return to anything akin to the ground Gods, or Hell any spawned NM. Leaping Lizzy nearly made me quit. Would be lucky to get claim once a day and then never get the drop.
It sort of dose i mean if you only got one class to 50 you have not done that much hell anyone can get a class to 50 with out doing any end game stuff my only point if this is there one and only than they have not played much of this game. I my self only have 3 lvl 50s as im a very laid back player but they seem to be one of the hardcore
I would enjoy it if you read my full post instead of just the first half of my first sentence next time before you decide to quote me. This isn't about the content in the game, it's about the lack of shit to do in the open world (bolded for clarity as you seem to have problems reading).
Oh boy, I can fate grind for a pitiful amount of gil + random and non important flame seals. Oh boy, I can go do treasure maps for drops that have already had their market value crashed into the ground within the first two weeks of them being released and gear that is beyond useless to any level 50 that does them. Oh boy, I can do dailies which are beyond boring and have already lost all worth to anyone who has ever played any other MMO with dailies in them. (Not saying some people don't like them, it's just that it's hardly open world content when it takes less than 15 minutes for rewards that are just for vanity.)
I really fail to understand why people are so against open world NMs, it's not like they have to drop best of the best of the best gear or anything. It could be small quality of life stuff, like a necklace that gives your stone skin casts +3% with barely any stats on it. Perhaps a pair of pants that gives you +5% movement speed in sanctuaries or something non important to battle. I don't understand why people think "OMG NMs, THEY WILL JUST GIVE THEM THE BEST STUFF EVER AND EVERY BOT FOREVER WILL FARM THEM AND I'LL NEVER HAVE MY CHANCE EVER OMG OMG NO!" FFXIV 1.0-1.2 most NMs were NEVER camped, every time I went to one, there was NO ONE there. So your shit arguments about being over camped are only because of your expectations for the best gear ever being attached to them.
Edit: Because I wanted to add a little humor to my post... Being afraid of adding NMs to the game because of the repercussions of them being in the game is similar to being afraid of going to your friends birthday party because you could choke on their birthday cake. If you are that afraid of them, YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THEM! Just like if you are afraid of choking on birthday cake YOU DON'T HAVE TO EAT IT!
There you go potty mouth fix^^ and to each there own you may feel there is a lack of stuff to do and others may not feel the same way so it works both ways. I will agree with you that this game is not monster sized and yes things can get very
repetitive at times but it's not like there's nothing to do go fish go look for ppl to help go craft idk the world is what you make of it
The lowlevel NMs gave you lv 25 and lv 30 gear. The highlevel NMs gave you mats to craft highlevel NM gear (like Dodore Wings for Dodore Doublet) and the leve NMs gave you Allagan Runestone to give Rowena for gear (later it got changed that you get the gear direct instead the runestones).
Well the gear by itself isn't really useful for a 50 but it's good for SBing since aetherial SBs faster than regular gear, don't know how much faster or slower than gear with melds though but a round of full party maps gives some decent amount of aetherial gear and potential materia of course including the obligatory elemental materias, I completely agree with everything else.
Honestly didn't even think of spirit bonding it for materia, but even still one perk out of all the rest of everything should signal that maybe something else needs to be put into the game for open world content.
That was actually the common reaction to that game (sans the suicide). It was a complete commercial flop, an embarrassment for SE. The contrast between the reception of 1.0 and 2.0 is like night and day, and this definitely informs their decisions regarding game design. If I was SE I'd take that wallet vote as a far better indicator of interest than any number of forum posts by mostly legacy players. I posted this in another thread but it's relevant here.
A mix of open world and instanced content isn't really a bad thing. I actually like the implementation of Treasure Maps as they are; What need to be buffed are the rewards. They're 8 man content, they should give decent stuff besides a chance for a pet that sells for a lot of gil.
More Fates like Odin and Behemoth would be welcome...if, again, the rewards were buffed up. But that's probably PS3 limitations at work. There's also the fact that the loot will inevitably be outclassed overtime, unless each of these bosses had a small chance to drop something cool (Like a mount or vanity item) to keep people wanting to do them.
Why are people SO afraid of the open world content and diversity?
In the old days, there was a AoE toggle for each spell where you have could choose between single target or AoE (like in the old FF games where you pressed the target cursor to the left to target every enemy).
Was only problematic if you wanted to cast a single target spell and forgot to turn the toggle back to single target. I was against removing the AoE toggle.
THM + cone AoE field + Sacrifice AoE = best healer before 1.19. The THM only needed to target himself and it healed everyone who stand in front of the THM. Was most better than the circle AoE field of the CNJ.
Here you can see the AoE toggle. It is the green button that show up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUXjioOR8L8
I think people want a group of eight or whatever and have a tough fight against a nm. The odin and behemoth fates are a joke when you have hordes of players wacking away at them no real strategy for them when you have that many players going at it.
Because treasure hunts are easy, beyond easy and they drop nothing but skins and MAYBE potash. I've done treasure maps, some times even Chimera popped and it was just extremely watered down and we facerolled all over it. Treasure maps are just killing normal mobs with the word "treasure map" slapped on to it.
I mean have none of you guys ever hunted down world bosses? Not none of this FF watered down crap, I mean in real mmos like rift, tera, aion, RO, etc it's not even remotely the same.
My personal complaint is both, the reward AND the system. IMO the point of world bosses is to compete with other people and do hard content WITHOUT going into an instance. It gives you a reason to go out an explore the world. And not just world bosses but elite mobs too.
Why does it have to be treasure maps? How come it can't just be a roaming mob? If they added that to treasure maps it would be a start, but whats with you guy's fixation with treasure maps? Not to mention having something telling you were it spawns ruins the "adventure" and "excitement" part of just accidentally stumbling upon one or trying to find it.
The fact that you had to ask the difference between a world boss and an instance boss shows that you've never done REAL open world content. World bosses are usually more difficult than instance bosses and therefore more fun. Not to mention it gives you something to do with out queing and just standing around town. What's so wrong with that? Why are people like you so against open world stuff? I dont know about you but standing around afk waiting for the que to pop just isnt fun and a lot of people don't find it fun either. Which is why there's so many open world threads/suggestions
Their complaint seems to be the reward, not the system.
What's the difference between killing a difficult boss in an instance and killing one in the world?
If they created a treasuremap that spawned an boss that required a Full Party to defeat and was sufficiently difficult, dropping equal rewards to the current raid tier, would you be fine with that, or do you just absolutely have to have the feeling of camping one boss for 10 hours with a group while twiddling your thumbs and smacking random mobs to pass time?
The difference is open world has RANDOMNESS. Let me explain how this does not apply to instances. We will use WP as an example.
WP you load in and your in a square room with a little hallway path in front of you.
Not too far ahead you will see a couple adventurer npc fighting a tonberry.
When this dies they will go away and 2 tonberries will spawn
Next you turn right and walk down another short path and there are 2 birds and a chest.
Turning left there is a set of stairs and when you get to the top there will be some very weak swarm beetles spawn that you can ae down in a couple casts.
Continue straight ahead and you will run into a tonberry and 2 birds in a largish square room
Turn left and you will run into 2 snails and a gator fish in a small connecting hallway
Just past the previous pack is a square room with a pool in the middle with a chest on the far side. Going near it will spawm more beetles. A tonberry will be walking around the room
Next you go down the hall on the left and there is another pack in the hall and just beyond that a 2nd pack with a door opposite the hall you come in from.
Killing the tonberry in the lack pack will open the door and you can then procees down a pathway to the 1st boss a big gobbule that has the same abilities, hp, and damage every time
Is my point made?
And people tlaking about "bot wars" 1st hit doesn't have to be the factor that claims the mob. Named work just fine in several other games XI being the only one this was ever an issue to my knowledge
Also maps spawning named that drop actual loot? No that is no better than an instance its a triggered spawn you control
With all due respect to my friends. Give me Aoe STONESKIN BACK >:O
My complaint is that people like you are holding us back from having this in the game because of the stuff I bolded in your quote.
NEWS FLASH:
1.It doesn't have to drop gear that is "End all Be all" for that slot.
2.It doesn't have to have a retardedly long spawn time.
3.It doesn't have to have a claim system where, "first person to do an ability or do at least 1 damage gets all loot period".
Think about it like this... Say they added in a lvl 66 NM in Natalan, you would want at least a tank / healer / 1 DD because trying to solo would either take forever, or you would get a nice loving view of the floor. Said NM could have a respawn of 30-45 minutes(FFXIV 1.0-1.2 NMs pretty much had 5-15 minute respawns). Said NM could drop something with lower stats than the CT healer body (say, 6 mind lower, and 4-8 secondary skills lower) but has an effect that says "latent MP recovered +80"(if you want to cry about it, you can tweek the +80 to whatever number you want). So when you recover your MP through just standing around (in combat or not), you get an extra +80 MP.
Would that be game breaking? 99.999999999999994% chance it wouldn't be. Would it be top teir? Obviously not. Would it be nice to have sometimes when you do random dungeons and you get that awesome tank flaunting his GC gear and ifrit sword? Obviously yes.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Being afraid of having this content in the game is the same as being afraid of slipping in the tub while taking a shower. If you don't like the content, don't do it, if you are afraid of slipping in the tub, get a mat or just take baths instead.
I don't think it's a matter of being afraid, it's a matter of if it's not designed in such a way that people will continue to want to do it, how can the dev team justify making it? There has to be incentive for people to do the content, else it was a waste of development time. Everything up until this point that's repeatable has had enough incentive to do them more than once.
- HM/Ex Primals for Story Progression/Relic Weapons/i90 Weapons
- Crystal Tower for Story Progression/Gear Progression/Tomes
- Coil for Story Progression/Gear Progression
- Odin and Behemoth for cosmetic items
- Beastmen dailies for Job XP/Gil/Tomes/Mounts & Furniture
- Treasure Maps for Gil/Tomes/Items
The trend among these different activities are anything of any significance drops out of an instance. Most everything else is cosmetic at best, and they designed the treasure maps to function as a Duty so that people can't interfere with what you're doing. SE has set this game up to prevent griefing as much as they can, going so far as to instance most of the content and not even allowing people to send tells while in instances. I'm pretty sure it's just not part of their design philosophy to stick things in the open world with items that are highly desirable for character progression.
Let's put it this way:
- They justified taking the "world" out of..well the world.
- They justified giving us throw away content
- They justified locking us out of actual content in some fashion be it access or loot wise
- They justified forcing us to do content we have no reason to truly do ever in order to help newer players progress since how likely were you to queue up for Brayflox or Stone Vigil on your maxed out i90 class?
They can justify it if they truly want, even though they're doing their best to design around issues, the issues still are present.
You mean all that content that is going out the window in a couple weeks? Let break down what of this content will never be looked at again in 2.2
- HM Primals for Story Progression/Relic Weapons
-EX Primals i90 Weapons
- Crystal Tower for Story Progression/Gear Progression/Tomes
-----Crystal Tower isn't part of the story quest line. Mog is.
- Coil for Story Progression/Gear Progression
-----Again not part of the story quest line.
- Odin and Behemoth for cosmetic items
- Beastmen dailies for Job XP/Gil/Tomes/Mounts & Furniture
- Treasure Maps for Gil/Tomes/Items
1. Relic weapons aren't being upgraded in 2.2 so... nope no reason to do those
2. Ex primals? No reason at all as ilvl90 gear will be the equivalent of Darklight and grow on trees
3. CT? Nope Myth is uncapped no reason to ever wear CT gear again nor do philo have any value for the same reason.
4. Coil 1-5 gear? Why you can just get a full set of myth to move on after beating it once.
5. COSMEDIC ITEMS? We want stuff thats actually useful and you throw cosmedic items out like this is proof content needs to be useful?
6. Daily EXP? That goes out the window soon as you hit 50 just like 99% of the open world.
7. Daily Tomes? You mean those philos that have no value soon as 2.2 hits and even now aren't worth much?
8. Daily merchants? More Cosmedic stuff thats supposed to replace actual useful content?
9. Treasure map tomes and items? See above for the myth being like looking for water in an ocean. And the items don't even have value not so I dunno what to say about that
Put in the new items into the treasure map loot list, increase the amount of myth tomes and put in a low chance to get also the new tomes and people would still do it.
It is already mentioned that the treasure hunting get regularly updates.
And I don't know what you mean with items don't have value. I sell mine with no problem. And the gears I get I spiritbound into materia.
The only open-world content I really miss are the faction leves (not only the NM leves) and Chocobo caravan.
There are 8 other classes to level and I'm pretty sure not everyone has 9 i90 classes now. Of course I realize not everyone wants to level more than one class either, so to each their own. I started a new char and leveled everything from scratch and have ran every dungeon at least once per class, so I guess I've accomplished SE's mission.
I think something you're overlooking is that there will always be new players that come into this game and will eventually have to progress through all the content if they want to see all of the different stories the game has to offer. (if they so choose to) And yes, while CT and Coil aren't party of the Main Story I feel they're still important enough to do to know what's going on in the world. I also realize a lot of people don't care about the story and just wanna click through dialog boxes so they can get to their shiny loot faster, so to each their own.
Anywho, I'm done with this thread and the other open world content one. Enjoy continuing to debate about a system that most likely won't come to this game.
In tera it was faceroll easy as well, and they also had pathetic drops. The only decent drop was that argon part you needed for the visionmaker gear, and that had such a pathetic drop rate that people were soloing bams all day for weeks and not seeing a single one. It was a chore and dumb boring, the only non-faceroll content in that game was instanced dungeons like MCHM, much like FF.
Also lol "real" mmos. I suppose we should aspire to F2P scumming such as 60 dollar maid outfits for the overly-sexualized race and putting upgrade materials in the cash shop?
As I said you had to do it for visionmaker gear, and dude you could solo BAMs. They weren't hard take off the rose-tinted glasses. The only fun open world thing was open world PvP and taking out bam farmers. All the open world PvE in Tera had the same problems we have here.
Not sure what visonmaker gear is, but if that's like some top tier end game gear. We aren't asking for anything close to that.
Next.
/facepalm.
Find the post that asked for the world bosses/NMs/Elite Mobs/ anything to drop the highest tier end game gear. Don't think you'd find that. It doesnt have to be end game gear, but we dont want it to be animal fat and potash. What's so hard to understand? Whats so hard about grasping the concept of having multiple i70+ or whatever item level of sets in the same ilvl range. We want it to be WORTH WHILE.
Just because I don't know what that item is, doesn't mean anything at all. We're talking about mobs droping something other than skins and garbage.
NO ONE in THIS thread is asking for that, so lets find another excuse please! People are even suggesting ways to make it where it's NOT claim wars. So please lets find other excuses of why there shouldn't be any open world bosses.
So you don't know much about the game you're talking about, but want to copy ideas from that, which had the same problems that you're trying to solve? Next what? Is that like a childish QED?
Like ok you don't want top-tier materials in your world bosses and you don't want them to be faceroll, why on earth are you defending that person using Tera as an example then? It was a terrible example was my point I don't really have a horse in this race.
Because if said NMs have the best gear in the game (like they did FFXI) then you do HAVE to do it to progress with your character.
If you want true competition, then go do PVP. Claim wars are just stupid.
The lack of randomness in dungeon mobs is due to the scripting of said mobs. If open world mobs are scripted too (and they are) then there's no randomness there either. Mobs always respawn in the same places.
