I don't know why it's so hard for people to ask "Hey, can you pull more?" instead. You know, using this MMO feature called "chat". It happened to me when I was in Bardam's with my GF as a DRK. The SAM and the AST were clearly together, and said SAM was running ahead pulling more. It was annoying. My GF was remembering how to tank on DRK, since she plays healers/casters the most. It was really rude of them.

I'm also baffled by this. I wonder if it's just an NA thing or if EU, Japan, Korea, and China suffer from the same problem. People on NA servers just seem insanely passive aggressive. It takes, at most, maybe 2 seconds to ask the tank to pull more, but so many people just flat out refuse to do it and just decide to do their own thing.

The game is built almost entirely around the concept of cooperating with people and somehow, it's like people queue up for DF and just assume, "well, obviously, everyone is gong to do things my way."

I have an alt on a Japanese server and can confirm people are extremely piloted and haven't seen anyone in 2 year playing willing pull more than the tank. Tanks set the pace of the dungeon and everyone follows without being a uneducated monkey. Even more, haven't seen anyone complain about a tank pulling too little

Will second this. I made an alt on a Japanese server out of curiosity - wanted to compare the behavior on J and US servers. Doing DF and DR almost every day, there's nothing like running ahead of the tank, pulling instead of them no matter the pace, being rude or trying to establish your own order.
One of the blowing my mind situations I had recently was when the tank forgot twice to pull down the chains in a dungeon (the 5 you have to pull to open the path), he apologized for like 5 minutes for it.

Just has a Leviathan (Hard). Our White Mage was Holying single targets and our Astrologian went into Nocturnal sect even though we had a White Mage.

But you don't need double regens for Levi HM. There's no issue with an AST going Noct sect with a WHM co-healer.

Story time: tanks that choose to do large pulls while wearing 270 strength accessories in Temple of the Fist and when we wipe, they give passive aggressive comments about how healers should only heal. Perhaps you should wear decent accessories first, friend. ;D

So, yesterday me and a friend (me on scholar, hes on warrior) did Dun Scaith again - always good for a story!

First off: I'll admit to being a tiny bit of an ass here straight away. But there is one thing in this game that really annoys me: skill-spam while people are still loading in. Wether its a healer casting protect over and over again or, well, or a dragoon using their stupid pole-dance-jump-thing. Its noisey, its annoying and it makes the person in question look as if they're unable to just sit still for a minute while people are loading in or watching cutscenes. I hate it.
So this is Dun Scaith and of course we've got new people and for some reason loading in there takes a while too. The dragoon in our group is one of those and I'm pretty pissed, so I decide: I wont extra-heal or raise him. He gets group-aoe-heals, Selene and my healer-buddy can take care of him aswell but I wont target him. Shouldnt be needed anyways.
As I said - I admit being a bit of an ass there and I was probably more pissed than I should have been, but geez was I annoyed. So it was kinda... satisfying to watch him die to doom each time Selene wouldnt auto-dispell. I dont feel to bad about it btw since my co-healer did shit and it would have been their job as much as mine to take care of those matters. After a while the dragoon - who has explained the whole doom-dispelling-stuff in chat even - realises that he must have pissed on of their healers off while the other one is just incompetent. So I get an apology (!) and keep an eye on him for the rest of the dungeon.

People are still new however so we wipe to the first boss - and a paladin starts complaining how it sucks that you have to figure out mechanics through trial and error or have to read a guide. I mean, he could have just asked for help aswell, but apparently he'd like to have NPCs explain him the mechanics druing the fights. Like... seriously? Most dungeon-mechanics arent insta-kills and since they're getting repeated over and over and over again it shouldnt be to difficult to figure out new fights in normal content... I guess I just dont understand some people...

... how else would you figure out what to do? ESP? Seeing the future? I don't understand. Also, I know people play FF for a wide variety of reasons, but I'm pretty sure that figuring out how to beat a boss is Video Games 101. Who would play a game that gave you a quick run-down of mechanics and explicitly gave you instructions on how to clear the next area in a bullet list? (Please don't answer this question, it's rhetorical and I'm sad enough as it is. It's bad enough that some people won't do content until they can see how others did it first.)

There is nothing in this game that pushes my buttons more than people failing the second stack mechanic on the final boss of Gubal Library normal mode. Seriously, people, seriously!

Sometimes you get people too nervous to ask for help from the bad reputation of newbies getting kicked from complicated fights.

Wait what? Yesterday? Dragoon hasn't had Ring of Thorns since the launch of Stormblood. Now they have nothing like that that they could spam.

I had an AST today in o4n locked in Diurnal Sect with a WHM cohealer (a FC friend of mine).

They refused to change to Noct - once we asked why, they answered that they'd been speed leveling and hadn't done any class quests.

Seriously... why do this. Why.

The instance is pretty much solo heal-able, yes, but if you know you're going to queue to TEAM content of CAP LEVEL why would you do this. I don't understand. Being min ilvl is one thing and it's entirely ok, but missing skills since lvl 50... that is not cool. Please do not do this.

I'm a baby tank who isn't experienced with big pulls. I try not to do them unless someone, specifically the healer, gives me the go ahead. But even then, I warn them. I'm still learning!

I queued in DF for Amdapor Keep, because for some reason, I want my ARR relic and I'm not far enough ahead in HW story for much else. I'm asked to pull more after a few small mobs. I nervously did so and we wiped. Like, nice going me! It's not a hard dungeon! Of course, I apologized.

Instead of annoyance or anger, the party gave me their full support and offered me advice as we went along. I continued to pull multiple mobs. The rest of the run goes fine.

As a sprout, I screw up. But, I'm so grateful to the players who are willing to be patient. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to have an experience such as that one.

I know I could just quit. However, if I did that, I would never learn.

Similar story, I'm trying to give WAR a go after unlocking it like 2 years ago and then never touching it again. Queue up and land in Haukke Manor. I tell my party I'm learning to tank, when my MCH says she's brand new, too. Cool.

Later, at that part where you move down to the basement/dungeon area, I tried to loop around and hold the guys on the stairs, when I see the RDM jump off and directly on top of the mobs in front of the door. Provoke, a few overpowers, and a rampart later, I say, "Try not to pull ahead of me."

And I got nothing but apologies from both DPS (apparently the MCH followed the red off the side). I told them it was fine, and the rest of the dungeon went swimmingly. Diplomacy!

Warrior (maybe tanking in general) is more fun and a little easier in Stormblood.

I would stay diurnal as the shields aren't needed and regens give more space for damage. Their reason sucks but regens don't overwrite so double regen can be fine.

Shame on you!!!! They might be orphan for all you know and they might be looking for people to adopt them or their parents just suck.

I strongly dislike Nocturnal AST, so even if cohealer is a WHM, you better believe I'm in Diurnal. Tried to go Noct for a trial once, just to have cohealer continuously die and leave me wishing for regens.

.. luckily, I hit 70 on AST, so I can proceed to not touch it again for the next 2 years. Least favorite of the healer jobs for me..

I used to ask all the time when I would see the new person alert if that person needed help. Most of the time it was a silence response. So I just gave up after a while. If they really wanted to know about a specific boss fight, they need to speak up. I have no problem explaining boss encounters.

I know :( As I mentioned, it's easily solo healable and as you said WHM and AST regens are stackable, but actually going in there with this mindset without being arsed to equip your full skillset saddens me.

Can't even call this being naive, it was pure lazyness - they were fully aware of what they were doing. It's just.. not considerate at all, lol

The WHM single target holying bugged me the most.
The sect only mildly bothered me because I have in my head that I pick my sect based on co healer.

The 1-target Holy spam and the wall-to-wall pulls with single target DPS's. Can't forget those. :)

ASTs in DF kind of annoy me tbh :/ specially when I'm on my SCH, as the number of ASTs seemingly locked on noct is high... I don't really bother queuing up as SCH for this reason lol. At least if I go AST I can change sect accordingly.

I'm aware that the the stuff I run (I have never touched savage, only primal fights) can be done with one healer or Noct AST + SCH, but it's one thing to not cast certain spells because you know they're not needed and to not cast them because you know they're going to be overwritten.

Sorry to self-aware ASTs out there, I know not all of you do this annoying crap D:

I have no problem asking new people if they need help with mechanics for pre-level 30 duneons or a few select dungeon (like Arum Vale or Baelsar's Wall). It is when you get to the level 60 dungeons and above is when I have more of the stance of "tell me if you are new to this." I am assuming that you have done enough dungeons to understand that it is OK to ask for help. Asking up front will only cost me 5 minutes at most to explain bosses, which takes less time than wiping.

You ask me if you need help, I'll help. Just like if you don't want me to do big pulls, just say so (though I usually ask that up front if people want big pulls or not, I am cool with either way).

As an AST main I really don't get the obsession so many ASTs have with Nocturnal in the first place. That extra 5% healing potency doesn't properly compensate the lack of ability to actually make health bars go back up efficiently. Less gimped at doing so than a SCH is sure, but it's less mana efficient to rely on shields than it is to use regens.

...If you're in an 8 man and you have to provide the shields, it's a different story obviously. But for 4 man content...I don't get it. The only thing I use Noct for is to quickly pop a pre-shield on the tank if I have time between pulls, then I'll swap right back to Diurnal for the more efficient regens.

IF you ran stuff via DF lately, you would have figured out by now, that SCH's don't use their shields and WHM's don't use their regen/medica/medicaII, and in the worst cases they can't even find physick's and cure. While I don't main AST and in fact even hate playing it, sometimes I wish I could just be in both stances at the same time, because somehow I always end up having to pick up every bodies slack and laziness. Heal/tank/dps and why I not just do all group mechanics aka clicking buttons (dragon killers etc) while I am at it. Wish SE would just delete AST and SCH or make it an requirement that people before entering duties have to go through an hour "how to play your job correctly" course.

To toss in my two cents on the AST sect debate, I prefer Diurnal in 4-man content since regens allow me more DPS uptime. 8-man content, though, I strongly prefer Nocturnal sect. So I jump at every opportunity to be in Noct sect. I prefer the mitigation aspect of Noct in 8-man content compared to supplying regens. Plus, if you have a WHM, more than likely they will be Medica II happy, so no need for double regens in most normal 8-man content (all that overheal too...).

Story time: Leveling up SCH, and I'll be honest, I was a little iffy about tanks doing large pulls just because it's been so long since I've touched the job, but I'm doing fairly well, so I feel happy. Excog is probably my favorite new skill. So incredibly useful and I use it basically on-cooldown for most pulls so I can DPS as much as possible.

It is mildly depressing to see my crystal ball telling me I'm pulling more damage on SCH in Shisui than a BLM though. Not sure what was going on there. >.>

Oh yeah I wanted to post on here.

Confession time! I apologize to my party that I was with at my lvl 65 dungeon.

So I'm tanking the dungeon on my quest to 70 WAR. We get to the end of the first boss and the call goes out that Ixion has popped. I needed just one more Ixion to finally get the mount. My server is pretty dead and the news sometimes doesn't go out to the entire server so... I ditched my party and went to kill Ixion. I got the mount and was happy! I feel bad abandoning my party though. I hope they were able to get a replacement tank. :(

Just got a red mage in Bardam's Mettle that never used Scatter. Tank was doing the big pulls too. My poor ALT's bard's TP was crying. We wiped 3 times due to the healer not being able to heal for that long + cooldowns ran out while a bunch of mobs were still up.

So, Deltascape 2 as BLM, tagging along with my PLD friend. One healer dies, then D/Cs. Then the other healer bites the dust. Nope, no resses.

My friend is the only PLD. He's also MTing. He proceeds to keep himself and everyone else alive, while still tanking, for the rest of the fight.

At the end, the healers had the gall to roll on items that they got carried for, and my friend wins nothing. Thanks, RNG.

Obviously I wasn't there so I can't attest for what exactly happened. Mistakes happen, disconnects happen. Assuming their was no intentional trolling and there was no one able to raise them then I don't think it's fair to expect them not to roll. If I was one of the healers I would have rolled. Congratulations on clearing without their help, though.

35 minute Temple of the Fist. Everyone is in 320-330 gear (except me - I have 310 pants).

The only cooldown I see from the pld is FoF - but maybe he did use others, I honestly couldn't pay that much attention. Because the drg didn't do his job of floor tanking - that was for the blm. Pretty sure the drg was using his cooldowns (I don't drg, but it seemed right to me). The blm used Ley Lines...3? times the whole run. Not 100% on Enochian, maybe once (I think I did see a Blizzard 4). I saw TripleCast...once.

First boss went fine.

We get to the second boss, and oh my dang Haurchefant. Killer Instinct up? They'd all hit the shields. Every time. It was either 5 or 6 of those sun/moon coins. If he did Fore & Aft, they all stood in front or behind him. If he did Port & Star, they all stood on his left or his right (to be fair, I did get some of the debuffs, mostly 'cause I was clipped while actively moving to safety. But still). The blm was down...2 times. Maybe 3.

We get to Ivan. The blm died 3 or 4 times. The drg died at the end, but he was trying to LB, so I'll give him credit there. I was baiting the spirit wind as far as I could, I was legitimately afraid that the blm would die.

I started in diurnal, for the regens, so I could dps. Yeah, no, it was kinda sad. The pld was as solid as used, wet, single ply tissue paper. After the first boss, I just said, "eff it" and went nocturnal (the shields seriously did help). I really wish I hadn't put my best friend away, he's a numbers wizard, and I'd have been interested in numbers.

I really, really like Temple of the Fist. I also quite like Ala Mhigo. And I very much dislike Kugane Castle (which is why about 80% of Expert roulettes put me there). It's not because of the bosses, although they are least interesting and most annoying of all the three dungeons; it's because of the trash pulls and how 99% of the tanks I met do them.

The ones before first boss are no problem. The ones between first and second boss? Tank puts Leeroy to shame by rushing towards the Summoners, leaving DPS as well as Treasure chests way behind and thus minimizing the chance that the Summoner will be killed before he finishes his cast. Why not grab the mobs, open chest next to them (kudos to the rare healer who does this instead), and make sure DPS are nearby before activating the Summoner? Grats, so you are at the Summoner 10 seconds before everyone else; how much time did it save?

But that is still nothing compared to pulls between second and third boss. Done separately, no problem. Dragging the first group towards the second one, killing them both, and then pulling the third group, sure why not. But if you do wall to wall pull there, and have meele DPS in your party, go burn in hell.
(Not to mention that 9 out of 10 times the pull ends with wipe anyway, and you can see that from miles ahead.)

I love that pull tho its best to do on pali tho for the hg , and u can kill the first bomb on the way up. But its a super fun pull tho
