I had a cute encounter during the moonfire faire. I wanted more FATEs to start in Costa Del Sol, so I went to go kill Cancer with my buddy. We knew it'd take forever, but that was ok. About 3 mins in, a random person pops up, and starts chatting in Japanese and cheering us on(both of us don't really understand much even though we are trying to learn.). Then within about 5 minutes, their whole free company of maybe 20 people shows up to help us out. At the end of the FATE they all started bowing and cheering us.

It was just so cute and funny. It felt like a dungeon run that goes really well and everyone kind of feels camaraderie after. I just like how this game can give cute encounters like that that go beyond language barriers. The auto translate feature is also such an amazing thing. I know they didn't have to program that after they decided to have regional DCs, but I'm so glad they did.

Going to level Paladin to 70 as soon as I finish up BRD (68). My plan is to spam dungeons/roulettes through Party Finder groups. My invite message is going to be "relearning job, haven't tanked in over a year. In exchange for your patience and putting up with small pulls you get to bypass the 30-40 minute DPS queue :)"

I figure that way it's a win win, I get small pulls and people know what to expect going in. In return they cut the queue.

I did an expert today where the healer got mad I LB'd trash mobs as a caster. From my impression, they seemed insistent that we needed it for the second boss (I was in Ala Mhigo)? Or maybe they were thinking we won't get 2 bars for the last boss???? Well anyway, I was a bit confused by their comment, they left and another healer joined. We finished the dungeon no problem with 2 bars and all towards the end. :D

That's actually not a bad idea :X I know I can probably drag some buddies along most of the time once I get back into dungeons, but I've been such a chicken about doing it..

I was farming the Great Gubal Library (lvl 59) last night for tank glamour and ended up with a party of me (DRK), a monk, a red mage and an astrologian. I do small pulls at the healer's request and find myself popping cooldowns on 3-4 mob pulls because they struggle to keep my HP up. Their heals were very weak for some reason.

First boss and AST dies. Stands in every single AOE and can't even keep their own HP up. Happens again. Monk leaves, instantly get BLM replacement. We offer to help, AST says everything is fine. We limp forward until the last boss. AST dies early on due to standing in AOEs and causes us to wipe. Second attempt, AST manages to survive a little longer but still dies early on just after the second add summoning. However, RDM steps up and heals me, the BLM helps with mechanics and we manage to kill the boss without the AST's help. I ended up praising the RDM's healing after the run, ignoring the AST. The RDM definitely earned the comm I gave them. =)

Got Susano for trial roulette on my 63 NIN. First attempt, the Bad WHM dies to all the Bad Things. Twice? All before the Big Sword Thing.. Not sure, but it wound up wiping 'cause the other healer was trying to get them up. So we're up, second attempt, several people remind the Bad WHM to stack for the orange markers.

I counted deaths for that one. 8 times. Eight. Orange stack marker? Run away! Parted sea? Stand in lightning! Water puddles? Stand in them! Red line of DON'T STAND THERE after the Big Sword Thing? It's so pretty!

Not sure of the exact percentage, but under 10% full party wipe. We left.

Edit: Requeued for Trial, got Susano again, had newbie NIN. We told him what to do. He was sure he was going to die at least once.

He didn't die, and it was a one shot.

Here's a tale I encountered on Monday. And it's a good, simple, heartwarming one, courtesy to myself :D

I picked up my static's healer for a casual run at Expert Roullete. Got Ala Mhigo with a brother / sister pair! The brother is a mentor SMN, while the sister is new to this dungeon as BRD. As a tank, I make quick tips for each boss. I expend my whole TP bar doing Total Eclipse and I was thirsty for TP. So, I told the Bard to include Tactician to help out with my TP regen. She did, and the whole run goes smoothly.


We beat Ala Mhigo with no problems (no mount loot nooo~), then...

Lyrai bows and walked towards the exit.
She suddenly stops walking, and after a few seconds, turns around to face the pair.
"I-I offer myself to be your tank for the next one!", said Lyrai with a burning passion in her eyes.
"Sure, that'd be much appreciated!", said the Bard, breaking the silence she had been for the whole dungeon.

I opened up a Party Finder to bring the pair in. My static healer joined as well, and then we one-shotted Shinryu.
We then departed with a heartfelt thanks to one another. I expressed happiness for helping someone out.

I've done the same in a dungeon. A tank MASSIVELY over-pulled. Not really his fault. He pulled a few, more came from the sides and then a second wave came from nowhere. Healer was running low, tank was nearly dead. I used a limit break and it all got handled quickly.

Sometimes the situation calls for it.

From a few days ago, I was farming Sophia EX. In one of the runs, the RDM performed a beautiful Displacement... right off the edge of the platform. And it almost killed me because I was laughing too hard to focus. I'm sure it wasn't very funny to them, but watching someone pull off a backflip to their death was just plain magical.

In terms of potency, and saved time, it's always a gain to caster LB insanely big pulls. No idea why some people don't do it.

Agreed. As tank I specifically request DPS LB on certain large, difficult pulls if I feel the DPS or healer may not be able to handle it normally. It can make the difference between a wipe and a smooth kill. That said, I have run into DPS and healers who are so badass that they don't need LB to demolish the mobs and keep me alive on large pulls. Rarely, but it's a welcome surprise when it happens. Just today I had an Ala Mhigo run where I pulled everything from the first laser grid all the way to the second near the final boss' doorstep. A difficult triple pull that often results in wipes. The healer and DPS mopped up and kept me alive it like it was nothing.

I did one similar to that on my bard don't remember the run was a while ago.

That was close!

Then I step backwards half a step.

Healer died from standing in bad. Tank dropped due to no heals. BLM said screw it, yelled Cowabunga, and jumped...

Tank and healer apologized. Both laughing so hard at the, as the tank put it, short walk off a long drop. Healer said they saw me land right on the edge, was typing you just used your luck for the week and before they hit enter I stepped off.

We killed it on next pull and ran 2 more.

Had a funny trial last night. It was Titan HM. NEW newbie message, no sprouts, other tank was in DPS stance. I hit Shield and while I was running I get a Light Party message. One of the healers quit. It hasn't even been 30 secs. A new healer joins in time to get Landslided off. Bombs go off and another landslide. My pinky toe must have been in or something cause next thing I know I'm falling. Down a tank and healer, the rest of the party carry us. It was weird run, but they were all good sports and laughed about it.

Speaking of carrying, fresh story from this morning.

Queue for a trial and it's ravana. The tank is new (and clearly nearly everyone is new as it all goes downhill pretty quick) and asks for any tips. One of the DPS says "Don't die", as though it's like... so easy that there's no need to worry about it.

And I don't say a thing, because I'm always curious how these things will turn out. Will they figure out that the arena gets broken and you can fall? Will they figure out off-tank gets hit with cleaves for a long time? The wing/tail shields? The answer is invariably, of course not. So, we have 2 DPS fall off the arena at the first knockoff, another DPS and the healer die thanks to cleaves... all in all, 4/8 people fell off (all the DPS, including the one that said 'Don't die' since clearly, this is so easy) the other healer and tank are dead, and it's just me and the surviving tank who ended up ultimately killing him. That's right, we ended up clearing it.

Not DF or PF, but..

Our main healer was late for raiding last night, so my static decided to go for unsync Sophia Ex for WT. I got the bird way back when it first came out, prior to token turnin, and hadn't gone back. But hey, it was easy then and we're overgeared now, right?

On the first tilt (after skipping a ton of mecanics), someone calls out for a soft pull.. and we all go flying. I commented that the two blue was always hard, so someone suggested following me.. and I sent everyone to their deaths on the next go. In the third pull, a RDM is constantly throwing out resses and I was desperately healing without faerie or MP, when I realized I actually forgot how the even/odd hard/soft is paired. We wiped at 13%, just after the other healer showed up. So much for my comment that it'd be easy.

Freaking Clemency trigger happy paladins... "oh my health is dropping, better Clemency back up"... except there's an Excog waiting to fire when you drop below 50%... had so many of them wasted in Sirensong just now because of the triggerhappiness towards Clemency...

Oh yes, I've had this happen several times now too. Any time a certain type of PLD's hp drops below 80-75% they panic and act like they have to clemency spam. Best advice I got in that situation is to 'fish' for excog heals- don't bother casting it unless they are already below 50%, using it more like an supped-up lustrate instead of as a pre-pull cast. When I run into those type of tanks now I usually just dps until they burn through their mp, then go back to healing.

I tried that! The response I got was "don't trust u". So encouraging! So I stopped healing them period outside of aoes for raidwides, since they were just gonna waste my excog anyway.

I feel like if they don't trust excog, then they don't understand the point of the skill, lol.

Or you can just do leveling roulette where no one will ever complain about small pulls anyway. I have never had that happen in about 100 total tank levels from dungeons.

My thoughts exactly. Not every casual players know what Excog means. Safe bet is to just not worry too much over it and don't mind if it's wasted; it'll eventually be useful sometime somewhere.


Anyway, here's another little heartwarming story:
Me and my static healer (again) went for Leveling Roullete yesterday. We encountered a new player who plays a GLD in Sastasha. I shook my head for a little bit, and said: "Hey, at least we're helping someone!"

The GLD seems to still haven't got the combos right (still doing uncomboed Savage Blade / Riot Blade), but he knows how to Flash! Big relief. So I focus on teaching him when to Flash, and how to do a combo, such as "Start with Fast Blade!" "Fast Blade + Savage Blade" etc. And then, saying "Good job!" whenever he does it right.

I asked the other DPS (RDM) to use Diversion as I used myself for the final boss. It worked, and so the duty is complete without a problem! I commend the newbie tank for his efforts with a warm smile. :)

You know what's even more infuriating? Having co-healers waste your Excog. I was in a map party a couple of days ago, on SCH with another AST, and I kept seeing all my Excogs tick down to nothing thanks to them. So I switched to BLM, the AST got us wiped in Lost Canals, and the WAR freaked out and kept insisting we needed two healers. Too bad I really don't want to heal when I see 95% of my heals going to waste.

Truth to be told I had no idea what Excog is until I leveled sch a tiny bit and got it. As a co-healer I would probably waste it as well because I didn't know what it did and usually have no time to read up the icon, since my primary concern is topping the tank at the given moment, especially if he is dropping to 50 % (since I am mostly healing as a whm) >.< So I guess most of the wastings on co-healer' parts are because they don't know about the skill at all. I probably wasted tons of it too when I was paired with scholars :( (Sorry! I really had no idea.)

Not a df story, but a pf one.

Ran O1S 2 days ago with my Sch Friend via PF. Group filled up / people left / filled up [...] the usual.
Once we finally had a full group, we qued in and then called positions.
I kindly asked for MT + N, which resulted in no awnser from our other Tank.
10 seconds after, as one of the last people, he just wrote "N" in chat, started 10 seconds pull countdown, and went in. At this point i was allready mad at him. Communication between tanks is a must, whoever thinks he can just dictate stuff to his co-tank shouldnt be playing group content.
The run is anything else then smooth. Boss doesnt get re-positioned, people get confused, noone gets his position right, stacking marks, deaths, clad goes into the group, chaos. Enrage at 13%...
We kindly asked the tank to reposition the boss after his sideawys jump, which just got the awnser "Sorry i speak little english". Checked his info, he was French, and as always joined an english PF without speaking english.
We told him to be OT that run, he didnt awnser.
Well, i pulled, we killed it, Tank ring dropped, he took it, ran off.

You can't imagine my frustration.

Doing 50/60 roulette on WHM because I need Verity mats.

Get into the Antitower and I'm pumped because it's short. SAM and BLM DPS with a DRK tank. On the first pull I notice the tank's health is dropping rapidly then I Cure II him and it fills his bar completely.

I look a bit closer and see he has only slightly over 20k. For contrast the BLM has 21k, I have 22.5k and the SAM has 24k.

I politely ask him to check on his gear and see if it's broken but it isnt, he's wearing a mishmosh of things with the highest ilvl being a 200 helmet. A lot of it is NQ whites. He's a sprout and it was his first time in the dungeon so I know he has better quest loot dropping.

Between pulls I talk to him a bit about Hismena in Iddylshire and tell him about Poetics and he seems pumped. He even let me run ahead to pull things and consolidate them for the DPS to burn.

We had a surprisingly smooth run considering we basically didn't have a tank. He was chill about us having threat and the rest of us outgeared it so much it was still a breeze. I don't think I've ever taken that many tankbusters before without getting mad.

Point is if you have someone underperforming maybe they're super cool like this tank and just need to get pointed in the right direction. I'm sure with some remotely relavent gear he's gonna be great in the future!

I explained how Excog worked, I still saw them pumping out Clemencies... So it wasn't that with this tank.

As for yourself, now you know how Excog works and you're taking that into account with your heals, that's fine, I got no issue with you. Sure, they say ignorance isn't an excuse, but I will cover ignorance with explanation so you understand. If that gets you to take it into account, great, no issues. We're all dandy.

There's been times where that has happened. But I'd rather use Excog as a safety net. Play it like a true lore-wise Scholar. Set it, go DPS, once I see it go off the tank (I watch that health and buff bar like a hawk), get back to healing. Yes, I try my best to use it whenever it comes off cooldown.

Yep, I explained what it did and that they don't need to worry, no response, the Clemency seemed to happen less often but it still happened.

But, if I explain how the ability works, that excuse no longer flies. I won't get mad at someone for not knowing, but once I explain and you still continue to ignore it, then we have issues, now if you bring up you're not sure after explaining it that's one thing, and I'll continue to support you, or if you're new, I'll be more lenient, but this was not a new player... (their game client was English like mine btw, so the language excuse doesn't fly, since I explained it in simple terms).

As for your story, that's the way I am with new players. For someone new, I will encourage, support, and guide. Plus, they were taking the tips to heart, so I would encourage them further. I'd also check if they were on my server and if they were, friend request going out after the duty. That way I can continue to support and guide them. Help bring out their best. That was definitely a heartwarming story.

Had some tank that yells and berates the DPS because my DPS as a healer is the highest in the party whilst the tank is the second highest...
Both of the DPS are apparently new (complete with the sprouts) and they are apologetic with their performance.
After a few offensive remarks from the tank (like: "Just go uninstall XIV from your ******* PC and go play some Solitaire!"), I reminded the tank to stop harassing the DPS with their parsing number if he don't want to get banned from using the parser to harass people. The tank snapped and I just blocked him, recommended the DPS to block him as well to report him...
The tank refuses to move an inch and after a few minutes chatting with the DPS, we decided to vote drop him and getting a replacement from my FC to help us finish.

The rest of the dungeon is a tad bit slow but it's still a silky smooth run~
(The new tank gave some advice on their DPS rotation and their parse increase quite a bit...)

Having someone underperforming who listens and respond positively outweigh the fact that he's not doing well~ not to mention that if they actually listen to a right advice, they might actually doing much better!
Some people just need time to adjust their pace~

Of course. I never had anybody having a problem with it before (as in my co-healer if it was a scholar) since all I did with second healer consisted of Omega or primals where I heal through tankbusters and definitely don't wait for them to be at 50 %. Other than that - if the pld still did that after explaining on your part, I understand your frustration >.< Or as a whole when plds heal themselves with clemencies when they drop to like... 90 %, that's a tiny bit insulting lol. Although you never know with DF healers/tanks in general.

It got to the point where I would explain the ability with a macro at the start of a dungeon and made a macro letting them know it's up, even then 90% of the time people seem to ignore it. This and a few other reasons is why I no longer even try to bother with roulettes or DF anymore outside of premades.

But ... ARF is part of MSQ right ? How is that possible ?
I mean,He need to beat ARF to finish HW as part of main story to access to lvl up to 61+,is it not ?
Am I missing something ?

Deltascape 3. I'm so sorry to all the healers in my group last night. I was sucking at every mechanic (moreso than the first time I did the fight) and ate some aoe's that I'm pretty sure I was out of (like the blizzard attack) so I might have had a bit of lag.

That being said, I finally ran into one of those melee who refuse to LB. We get full LB3 and the group isn't doing particularly well (I mean, I know I wasn't and it looked like I wasn't the only one dying); so people start asking for LB3. Monk just doesn't do it until much later (honestly I'm not even sure the monk ended up using it or if it was a ranged). After the fight, the monk just says: "Monks don't limit break. Learn the mechanics."

Is this a thing? Are you really unwilling to be a team player and just get the stupid clear instead of sticking to principles of refusing to LB3 because reasons?

I'm glad I got that guy's spring on a shitty roll. XD

I know if I'm on my Monk I prefer not to limit break. I don't like to take the chance of losing grease lightning by doing a limit break. And I am definitely not going to use it if i have brotherhood and riddle of fire up.

A monk can easily lb3 if they time their refresh on Greased Lightning. I personally don't like to lb on Monk until there's a window of opportunity, or I'll wait until the boss is about dead (gauging on which limit break bar we have) so I can finish the fight with it, without overkilling.

That's because(iirc) that it also skips the ARR story. Pretty sure it was in a live letter back in May that it was mentioned.

Monk is a hard class to LB3 on from all the timers and the attack's long ass animation lock. Ot's not that they can't do it, so much as they tend to be one of the worst choices for the huge personal DPS loss it can hit them with.
