I think the scheme is fine. If a guild wants to be the first to buy a house and get the biggest one, thats a 120mil+ sink, thereby taking out a rich guild relatively fast. The other option would have been to put up houses cheap and have that same guild buy everything up and sell it for even higher prices. I just find it funny so many people are crapping their pants because they can't build their perfect house on day 1. I miss the days when people just played the game they were given instead of trying to change every stupid thing because it doesn't fit their personal agenda. What's even more laughable are people canceling their sub because of side content to the game not being attainable instantly. SE is doing fine IMO, and im glad i have something to strive for for a few months instead of being handed everything and then choosing to quit out of boredom.

Housing hasn't been advertised as "side" content. It has been hyped as the most relevant part of patch 2.1 by the former President and CEO of Square Enix himself, on every single live letter from a year ago to now. Square Enix can only blame itself if a lot of people had high expectations for it. Housing has been hyped for December 17th 2014 and people want to be able to enjoy at least the entry level of it by that date, not in March the 17th. And they're right to expect that. -

I have something to say to you Yoshida. I have been a big fan of you for a long time, I even have considered you one of the greatest producers the gaming industry has seen yet. So what I am about to say to you will help you become a better producer.
You have gotten everything in this game right. You have gotten alot of things perfect, and you continue to improve things beyond what any producer in the past of any game company has done for a game. You have made FFXIV succesful. You made someone (me) who canceled two accounts just before 1.0 release, resubscribe and play this game and enjoy every moment of this game.
So let us begin with what you dont know yet. You know gaming, storylines and many things. But you DO NOT KNOW housing.
Take a game as big as Skyrim, that sold just this last year, this game has sold millions of copies and was one of the most popular games of last year. If you look at how many players have download and created mod's for a single player off line Role playing game like skyrim, you must know that people love houses and housing in thier games.
Final Fantasy is at its roots a RPG. Skyrim is a RPG. Look at all true RPG games created in the last decade such as LOTRO and Everquest. You will find that housing has always played a huge factor in all these games. Look at Everquest Landmark coming out soon. It is a housing game that is so big that there is huge amounts of investments going into thier housing project, or look at Skyrim's Hearthfire expansion, because people love housing, most importantly RPG players love housing.
When you start to understand just how important housing is to RPG fans of the west, you'll see that housing itself is so big that it could make a game a huge success or break it in half. I have no doubt that people are starting to unsubscribe already after this patch release because of how housing was handled. I do not like to see this happen, and ask that you have a mind to make sure that housing does not turn this game into a deserted place because it was not given enough enlightened thought.
Because housing in MMORPG's have become so loved and wanted and sought out, this feature of the game is as important as any new dungeon or raids that you would put into a game. If we get this wrong, we get it all wrong and we will see this game lose players faster then 1.0. Please do not let this happen. Please find a way to allow all FC's that were created before the patch and had rank 5 be allowed to pay a low price for housing.
One great way you could do this is to look at all FC's that were created up till patch 2.1, and if there is enough housing for every single FC up to patch 2.1 to own a house, Why not allow all those pioneers of the server be able to buy a house at a cheap price, and make any FC's created after a certain date (2.1 if resonable) to have to pay a high price for housing to accomplish saving server space?
Anyway you look at it, your reply will not be enough for all the community, I have already started to hear, that you guys are allowing rich elite titan sellers buy houses and leaving FC's who are loyal and base of the community be steped on. This cannot and must not be the impression in the minds of the players. Surley there is something you can think of that will allow all small and big FC's to earn thier house besides with gil... Find something Yoshida, because this will ruin a successful game if you cannot. -

Why didn't they just restrict housing to 1 per FC or 1 per game account, or both? As you can only be in 1 FC at a time, you therefore couldn't buy multiple houses yourself.
The fact that they chose to not follow this line of implementation suggests it was a deliberate choice to price people out of the market in an attempt to get people to play more and earn more gil to afford such housing.
This may end up backfiring and put a lot of people off who had been looking forward to housing, especially when there are no details of when personal housing will appear and for how much. -

Interesting fundamental stance regarding the house pricings. The fact that plots seem to be limited and that high pricings are the solution to guarantee availability doesnt comfort me.
In fact i feel deprived from a gamefeature like many other since i want to play the game in a casual manner without trying to focus more on earning gil.
Currently i own 200k gil and no epic equip but i still enjoy playing the game my own way. This leaves me with the question if my free company belongs to the 80 percent in three months which owns a plot or not.
But maybe i just dont see the grand developper picture in this. Hope it turns out as intended and meanwhile i will enjoy patch 2.1 content without housing. -

You forget duty roulette works only when solo... so yeah, farming duty roulette means playing solo instead of having fun with your friends. And this just makes players want to strip other players of their gil, just so they can afford the content, atleast there's a good income of materials and is far more fun to gather, especially if you're farming ina group. Just imagine, bunch of friends running together in the forest hacking at those trees, grindy? yes! boring and lame as farming gil? No!
Although of course, that would mean everyone would be out there trying to farm materials, but if you even it out of what you need, from low lvl to high lvl materials, then you would have people farming everywhere. Plus it makes much more sense that we farm the mats to build up our own house, rather than just try to get the insane amounts of gil required to buy the plot, and then get a relatively free construction. Just boring.
Anyway... this should be addressed rather sooner than later. Very frustrating and just a plain bad move on SE side. Very sad. -

So, there is a post in this thread from Camate quoting Yoshi, in which he says that they took into account all the RMT Gil left in the world. Then later in Yoshis full wall of text post, he states that he skimmed 10% off the top to account for RMT Gil left in circulation. Which one is it?

If the devs are worried about the rich buying all the plots, why not just restrict land to one per FC? I don't see why this should even be an issue.
