Pretty sure I was healing with my group in the exact same WC run you're talking about. > > We'd get some people up, and then they'd get cleaved and die again, since the aoe covered the entire room.
I hope you will reconsider going back to Dun Scaith. The raid is a good place to hone your skills, since there are quite a few mechanics which will most likely kill quite a few people who aren't paying attention. From a healers perspective, it's rewarding if you manage to keep the party alive during the more hectic battles. I've run Dun Scaith so many times, that i'm starting to predict who will be getting hit by an AoE skill with a fast cast time.
I can tell you that a lot of people still aren't paying enough attention to their surroundings and get hit by avoidable damage in the process. Too many people try to ignore mechanics, in favor of burning down the boss, hoping that they can kill it before they get in trouble. Due to this, almost every party i'm in will be wiped at least once at Scathach, because people are ignoring the hands and Connla when the boss gets down to 10% of it's health.
It's easy to blame someone for their mistakes, rather then looking at your own mistakes and owning up to them. That Dragoon apparently was one of those people. Unfortunately there not much you can do about that, other then doing the best you can. Even through i know each encounter inside out, i'm still human so i too make mistakes. I had a melee dps in one of my runs who died to almost every AoE in each battle, just because it wasn't dodging them as he was supposed to. But, as a healer i kept trying my best to keep him alive and well. In the end, i had to raise him more then 20 times during the entire raid. The different is, i didn't call him out on his mistakes but i did try to slip in some tips like positioning. (Unfortunately it didn't work).
The best thing you can do, is brush it off and try again the next day. Who knows, your next run might click and you'll be done in no time and without experiencing this amount of stress while doing it.
Since you are playing on Gilgamesh, that means that you are playing on the Aether Datacenter. I'm from Sargatanas myself, which is located within the same Datacenter. If you want, i can join you for a run and be your co-healer. If you have any questions about healing in Dun Scaith, feel free to ask. (^_^ )
It takes courage to admit that you've made a mistake. In this case it resulted in kicking a healer unjustly. Theses things happen and the only thing you can do is offer your apologies and hope it doesn't happen again. So, kudo's to you Synthcalibur. (^_^ )-b
Please, don't let the "horror stories" get the better of you. Altough these are stories about players having a bad experience in content like Dun Scaith, it's not always like that. There are plenty of other players who are good and work together to make the duty run smoothly. Heck, i was in an Ex Roulette now where we were all cracking jokes throughout the entire duty. It was a blast and we still cleared the run within a decent time frame. It's these kinds of random and spontanious moments that make running content with other people so interesting.
But, you as a player can initiate or at least take your part in making a run pleasant and interesting. Crack a joke here and there. It really works to lighten up the mood.
I agree that playing a tank or a healer can feel like a thankless role to fulfill, especially if you are giving it your all and you party members start complaining about that 1 time you've lost aggro on 1 mob, or that someone died as you are trying to heal him/her. However, don't get discouraged. There are plenty of other groups where you will feel comfortable tanking or healing.
There have been more then enough moments where i was questioning whether or not i should continue to play as a tank or run a certain duty, but i perservered. If i compare my skills and knowledge with other tanks and healers, i can feel good about myself that i'm not as bad as other might try to make me feel. I may not be perfect, but i have accumilated enough experience on both my Tank and my Healer to be confident enough in my tanking/healing abilities in front of a group of people i've never seen before.
That on it's own is a good enough reward for me.
Sohm Al HM as a SMN, with a BLM, a DRK and an AST.
Pulls start off well, until the second set of mobs and the tank starts doing teeny tiny pulls. AST is doing no DPS whatsoever. They continue to do this throughout the dungeon, bearing in mind the DPS and they seem to be well-geared enough. After the second boss, I ask why he's doing such small pulls. He answers he "hates this place", and I'm abruptly kicked.
Uh... did I miss something?
Today I had a positive experience in The Vault. I was on Summoner and the party had reached the last boss. The first half of the fight went fine, but it was during the second half when the Dragoon went down. A quick glance showed that I had more MP available than the healer so I did a Swiftcast Resurrection. The fight continued, but things took a turn for the worse. Both the healer and the Dragoon went down with the tank hanging on by a thread. However, the boss was low. Low enough that a melee Limit Break would finish the job, but I still had about ten seconds left to go on Swiftcast. I decided to just go for it and used my own LB which brought the boss down to 1%. I was the last one standing at that point and the boss proceeded to kill me. I died, the fight ended, but... we won. In that fraction of a second the boss also went down and we were deemed victorious.
Yeah good luck on that,
I think Zuvran is easier than Sophia, I dread ever having to do Sophia Ex again. Luckily I'm not really interested in Birds. So doesn't affect me that much.
I only ran them for kicks the first time to see what they were about a few weeks back.
EDIT: I'm more of an Airship type guy, so go do the flying Magitech Armor or the Cutter.
Maybe I'm too stupid, but is it just me or does this forum not allow PMs?
One of us should set up a PF to exchange Discord / Steam / whatever contact data.
Anyway, Expert Roulette, Sohm Al HM.
Premade (Tank, Healer and me as SMN) and a random BLM.
They were able to pull their own weight, which made me happy.
I thanked them for doing DPS.
They responded with:
"I know that feeling."
Commendations were exchanged after that run.
Tanking Keeper of the Lake and came across a sprout WHM attempting to do damage as well as heal. Since I main WHM, I asked if they wanted some pointers, they said that they did, and I gave them a few tips on how to give themselves as large a window and cram as much DPS into as they can. They took the advice to heart and did pretty good! Always nice to see a sprout learning how to push themselves to the limit.
Sophia is very easy. With a good group, you can easy push her enough to skip most tankbusters, and a few other mechanics. And with a good macro, marking players for Sin and Punishment is a piece of cake. Good groups know when and where to stack with each other as well. Other than he sometimes switching up her Aero III and Thunder III, her fight is more-or-less scripted, just to a lesser degree than, say, Thordan or Sephirot.
Zurvan I find a little more tricky since his fight can have a bit more randomness with regards to some skills he uses (Tail End, Biting Halberd, Circle--I know it's like Circile or whatever but I call it Circle), and if DPS is slow, Soar can't be skipped--which results in a lot of salt. Broken Seal and the tethers can cause issues too, since unlike Sophia, they are randomly distributed compared to Sin/Punishment and cannot be easily solved with a pairing macro. And if people strain them, that causes more issues (a beautiful Bleed debuff that ticks for a decent amount). But with a little coordination (Discord helps a lot with Broken Seal and determining which pairs run where), Zurvan isn't that bad either. It's only bad because of the salt, really. Lol
I personally find Sophia to be the easiest of the two, but maybe that's because I've done her fight close to 200 times between weapon and bird farming that it's just second nature to me. Zurvan I've done 30-ish times or so. Neither are that bad; SephEx is definitely more difficult compared to the other two Warring Triad. So if you do fine with Seph, I think you'll do fine with Sophia and Zurvan. :3
@Hyomin, on Primal I tried to join several Sophia "farms" last month while working on SCH and WHM relics because I figured it would be decent light farming and I didn't need to roll on the bird. Sadly, the groups were all so bad that some didn't get a single clear, let alone multiples. People kept falling, dying, getting knocked off, tanks wouldn't mitigate tankbusters...it was a real pain and I went back to getting light from pvp.
This is actually one that I wasn't personally involved in, I watched my sis do it yesterday. She got Neverreap in 60 roul, was running as PLD with two friends from our LS. I'll... be completely honest, they both main DPS, they do roughly half the damage a casually dpsing WHM can do. >_<; So, already the run is gonna be painful. She actually hates bad DPS more than bad tanks/healers lmao. But friends are friends, so you put up with it.
Well they get in, she does the standard pulls, shite dies as agonizingly slow as we think it would until WHM Holy spams... and then keeps Holy spamming on next big pull.
Me: dude, you using cooldowns?
Sis: Uh yeah, they ran out.... No regen even, He's gonna let me die, I don't have the MP for a Clemency.
Me: Sword Oath? ((enemies were low in HP, was thinking maybe she could kill them before they got her))
Sis: I can't risk the extra damage if he's not healing.
Sure enough, wipe. WHM says "stuff is dying too slow." Like, okay? So you screw the tank to teach the DPS a lesson? :/ I told her to kick him, you don't need a healer that doesn't have your back, but she's always been more tolerant than me with jerks. She says she doesn't blame healer for being annoyed, because she's annoyed with them too. But dude, now she's stuck with bad DDs, and a pissy healer that's gone full DD mode, so pretty much she's carrying the run by the 3rd pull.
So yeah. I eventually convinced her to go yolo-Sword-Oath mode on everyone since healer was so dang concerned about damage. XD There is nothing more depressing than seeing PLD out dpsing everyone, holding hate and also healing themselves through 70% of a dungeon. XP I think I would die in shame.
@bounddreamer - That's unfortunate. I can't recall ever having too many issues with the PF (or even RF) groups I was in on Aether. The only times I remember having any major issues were when bonuses were sneaking into farm groups without listening to any of the mechanic advice others gave them. But this was a while ago; I haven't been in any Sophia groups the last month or two since I had her bird and was focused on Zurvan's or other birds.
With regards to light, have you done any A1S? Easy to farm, and a decent source of light, especially if you hit a sturdy bonus window. And much faster than Sophia or PvP.
I did clear parties on my alt on Aether and was pleasantly surprised how fast I got my alt's clears for Thordan, Sephirot, and Sophia. Have yet to get the alt clears for Nidhogg and Zurvan, wanted to gear her up a bit more.
Got very farmed out on A1S, it's too boring. I did it some on WAR, DRG, a ton on PLD, DRK, and a bit of AST, then swore off anymore A1S parties.
Variety became more important to me than speed, and the plus side of doing so much PvP was I gained a fair number of PvP achievements in the process.
Heya, just wanted to pop up and say thank you to everyone for the amazing support!
To be bonest I'm still a little in shock by the all the atention my silly story received. x_x
Still, seeing all those msgs made feel really warm inside. Makes me wanna try even harder next time cause I know there are awesome people out there and they deserve my best.
Hm... l better stop before this becomes too cheesy... xD
Ty all again!
I never see good DRGs in DF. Ever.
Just got out of a Sohm Al Hard where the DRG never once used heavy thrust or blood of the dragon. Not. Even. Once.
I don't even care if you have trouble keeping the buff on or forget sometimes its fine.....BUT at least ATTEMPT to try to use them??? /smh
Level 60 in Expert...no excuse at all for that.
Somewhat "hard" 8 man content where you queue as healer & the other healer seemingly does nothing for awhile so you watch their cast bar and see them do almost nothing as you basically solo heal the entire fight besides a few aoe heals and an odd cure 1. Then after sweating bloody bullets trying to carry this lazy -censored-, you get no comms to top it off.
This has happened to me more times than I can count ._.
I understand that A1S is basically faceroll, and I understand that we are trying to cram as many runs as possible into our sturdy bonus window. However, you still kinda need to heal your MT. I shouldn't have to use Living Dead on Faust because I'm not getting heals and my health is now 2,000 or below. >.> I shouldn't have to Living Dead at all in there.
Went for a quick Sohm Al (Hard) 7/9 Journal. Cleared in good time. Signed up for another for last sticker...
Healer joins, does play-dead emote and wordlessly AFK's. We wait for 5minutes before we agree to kick them. Healer joins instantly and away we go (I'm PLD/Tank). Healer is of the No-DPS persuasion, and despite having 2x ranged AoE DPS players, trash took literally forever to kill, for reasons I didn't investigate. Because of this, I couldn't really risk leaving ShieldOath out of fear of Healer MP concerns given how long fights were going for. Anyway, slog our way through to the end and, judging by my recording, it took nearly 7minutes to kill the last boss. I know, that doesn't sound terrible on paper, but given most die in under 3minutes, it just shows the difference. Going from a typical everyday clear to this sort of pace out of the blue as tank was pretty draining, so I proceeded to do nothing but gather/craft for the rest of the night.
For a second there I thought that was the run I was in but I think it was a different run. In the run I was in casters had aggro for at least 12s (I was a baddie and ate 2 zombie puddles) and they were asking for someone to take aggro in alliance. So I switch on Defiance and pop Unchained. It seemed like the DRK wanted aggro back after a certain point, and I'm like... if you're letting DPS have aggro for that long that I have to tank then no get to the back of the bus.
live right now...
this dumb scholar queued Bismarck in trials roulette. put up deployment tactics and somehow hit auto run while trying to place fairy and ran off the island withing 5 seconds of the fight starting...
Words simply cannot express the amount of epic fail...
cannot believe I did that
Yeah Zurvan doesn't seem that bad, it's just finding people that actually stick to clear...and me not messing up tethers, I'll freely admit that...lol If parties would actually stick lately I'd actually learn them it seems right now, hence why I'm just putting it off till SB no one seems to wanna bother right now.
Recently hit 60 on PLD so I've been running Dun Scaith constantly to get some diabolic gear to get it up. Weapon is still pretty crappy, ilvl230 hyperconductive stuff. Guess who winds up MTing every run despite the other tanks having FAR better gear? Grow a damn spine other tanks.
On a related note, ran Expert roulette on the aforementioned PLD. Now, I expected to have a little trouble keeping hate... but it really doesn't help when I go for large pulls and the freaking DRG does their single target combo instead of AoE. So, not only are they doing less damage than they should, I'm losing hate on stuff because flash spam isn't enough to keep hate off single target DPS!
I organized a clear party for a friend yesterday... He saw the whole fight but in PF there are always some people derping around and failing tethers.
He was spamming me /tells of gratitude (in capslock) because he was so happy that he doesn't have to waste his time on "kill parties" anymore.
And I know that feeling... You just wanna get that clear, only 3% left, but someone always HAS to mess up and cause the party to disband.
I've been reaaaaaally tempted to try to PF daily speed ex results.. DF has been so terrible that I may give up the goal of all jobs in i270 before SB. I don't have much hope for PF alex farms and my static is done with farming floors.
HOW DO YOU DIE WHEN YOU'RE AN OFF-TANK AT CALOFISTERI? ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS DODGE!
So goes one of the many, many questions I had when running Wiping Shitty today, as SCH. It mainly started at the Headstone, when some genius pulled the boss and locked out about 5-10 people, including both of C's healers. Feeling sorry for C, I took some time out to top up their HP and pick up one of the BLMs off the floor.
C responded to this by: Refusing to step on their button, forcing me to sprint a marathon to activate it and get back to the shield, and having the BLM I picked up die again due to not standing in the shield like literally everyone else was.
The whole of A somehow managed to die to Ozma. I don't know how, I wasn't paying them much attention.
Calofisteri ended with half of A and C dead, including both their tanks, while over in B, we had our tank as MT, staying alive the whole way through. We had a rough spot in which most of our DPS got thenselves killed, but at least we didn't wipe to Calofisteri, unlike A.
I left with 6 comms, which was totally unexpected and nice. But seriously, how do you even die to Calofisteri?!
Sohm al reg for lvling roulette. Me as whm. Drg and bard dps. Dragoon buff usage during the entire run... battle litany. .. once. No b4b no internal release not even a life surge. First boss he gets marked and runs from other side of the boss to my side and gets us both sucked in. The he does it to the bard. Then he runs all the way to the wall. Second boss he peels off and starts killing red and blue slimes. Then ignores the green one causing a wipe. We regroup, beat second boss. I then ask why he's not using any buffs this is of course met with complete silence from him but the tank leaps to his defence (getting himself killed in the process) then the bard basically tells me to drop it too. Dungeon took 45 minutes..... the bard, with under 6k hp, was out dpsing the almost 10k drg who had a higher ilvl... "But Kochie... just let him play how he wants" ok guyyyys.so I use 2 bar lb on final boss out of spite. Idiots
Healers who cast regen before every pull.
Why? Why do I keep getting healers who think this is a good idea?
I'm about ready to give up on tanking all together at this point. High level DPS love tormenting low level tanks, I'm convinced of this. And I'm also becoming convinced that the only good healer is -me-. ; ;' Every time I try to play another class, I'm promptly reminded why I yam...what I yam.
Aurum Vale. Tank disconnects after fail at first boss, replacement tank joins, a mentor WAR. Pulls the first boss without Defiance on, ends up burdening the green leaf 48lvl WHM. At the end of fight, WHM is out of mana as WAR is all the time taking dmg in chunks and continuing to pull forward without Defiance.
WHM (green leaf): Are you gonna tank the entire dungeon without Defiance?
WAR (mentor): Did the previous tank leave because of your smart ass?
In short: here you have an amazing reason why some mentors should not be allowed to wear that crown.
