Ninja is simply unplayable at 120-160ms, it so irresponsible I'll need to say goodbye to it.
200ms-220ms being fine, maybe if you are an ex roulette paladin hero, yoshi.
At least the commiefornians are happy.

I have already decided to not renew my subscription, as the ping increase was too big for me consider the service worth paying for. It is definately playable, but I do not want to endorse this kind of behaviour from companies.
At this point, between fan fests and the server moves, I am starting to believe SE doesn't realize that the east coast even exists. To be fair, most of this is a political issue since TWC/Comcast/etc lobbyists have thwarted fiber roll-outs that should have happened a decade ago. NA's infrastucture is a hodgepodge band-aid rat king of old hardware & cables.
I've been playing and raiding at higher than 100 ping for over two years...there were times when it was on the higher end that made it rough during progression (looking at you, Sacraments in A12S) but I've always been able to clear content. There were times after patches when it was worse for a little bit but that's probably due to returning player load on the servers as much as ping.
All of this hysteria is really unwarranted.
^for people who get the short straw as in really bad latency
Cant you guys just pay a char transfer to different server? I remember someone from other thread said the new server location is for half of NA server, while the other half still located in the original location or at least something like that
Or you can try the jp server? Maybe you get better ping
If you really end up in jp server, just remember that we have different custom/tradition/approach when in party and socializing =D
^here another player who has been in this game for years with 200-220ms and at best i feel like .5 second delay for any skill i use (interacting object give me 1 second delay for no reason though)
And still doable and i feel no hinderance at all, so yeah people who complain with 100 ping on their side is pretty "wtf" Moment for me
True but, if you really love this game then its the only best option right now. Its pretty sad to leave the people and guild you're familiar with.Quote:
Much of this comes down to people and their friends established.
meeting new people and community on new server can be pretty good though
East Coast NC here.
Old server - 33ms ping
New server 119ms ping
It seems that for us, our ping went to 150-200 avg to 230 - 300 from most ppl I have talked to. As we don't have any options, since EUR data center is about the same if not worse and there is 0% chance for us to get a server ever. What are you guys planning to do? Move to EUR? Pay more money to try use a VPN to get what we were used? Stop playing altogether?
I hear you. I wouldn't want to support a company that uses money to expand its service, upgrade to new technology and allow for new features like expanded inventory, more housing (and bigger / more zones), etc. either. Were you someone who cheered when they announced the end of PS3 support for the growth of the game? I'm sure people quit because they didn't want to support that. The middle of the states would have been ideal, but a lot of factors had to be considered, no doubt. Modern facilities, rooms, deals, etc. After all, they're still on a development budget. Plus they seem to be doing things with transfers as well as implementing universal friends lists, fcs and party mechanics. The old center dropped a lot of players on the west on an hourly basis for the first year (and beyond). Gave them massive pings due to obsolete facilities and packet drops. Though they still persevered and didn't spout rhetoric about "that kind of behavior".
I'll just chalk it up to human nature and the need to adapt to new information. While not ideal (and what is?), there's nothing legitimately wrong with "this" behavior. Though I do understand that you're upset by something and can sympathize the need to adapt. If you enjoy the game, then just simply play it.
I'm from Brazil and I play in a PS4.
I can't use proxy programs to help with better ping.
My ping now is 205 with the new server. It's so sad. =(
But I'll keep playing and see if changes doing EX and Savages. Not planning to stop.
You might take shit for this but it's true.
What I think a lot of people here don't understand is that because of how low the ticrate is in this game, a small latency increase can actually result in things getting delayed by several hundred milliseconds. Imagine you have a bus stop and a bus closes its doors and departs exactly every 10 minutes. If you miss the bus by 1 minute, you're not just 1 minute late to your destination, you're 10 minutes late because you won't be departing until the next bus leaves. Every bit of latency you add shrinks the window for getting on the bus in time, until at a certain threshold you are frequently or even always missing the bus.
Really thinking about what I'll do next. While we can use a VPN to get a bit of improvement, with our currencies, at least in Brazil, its basically playing a second monthly subscription price. I went from 170 to 235, and as someone who raid, 235 is REALLY really hard to accept, specially in progression. I'm still waiting to see if Yoshi and SE team will say something, but at now I lost all my motivation, even thinking about canceling my SB pre-order and all.
I'm not great at geography but didn't the servers used to be in like Canada or something? If so I'd have thought you were better off now cos I thought California is closer to Brazil than Canada lol.
i will try with a vpn later, before the move i usually had 110 with a vpn, i wonder how it will go now tho, if it doesnt get better with a bit of time and if the vpn doesnt fix it much, i will just stop playing.
Thanks @SteadistShark.
Good to see that there is still empathy in the community :)
@DJaySaint
You are a *insert random insult here*. You do not care about the ppl you have played with. You do not care about their ping, why should SE or anyone else care about what YOU want.
There are things that YOU could do to improve your ping. If you are on the east coast and your ping is that bad, maybe stop downloading stuff while you play or maybe tweak your registry. The person that is crying the loudest here is you. I pay the same amount for the service as you and there has never been a "you are european, STAY ON YOUR SIDE OF THE WORLD" server restriction.
And what about the NA citizens, that are living in the EU because their company sent them there for a few years? Did they lose the right to play on NA servers too?
I always thought that real gamers stick together. But MINE and THE OTHERS is a big deal now in america, right?
Whilst I see where you're coming from, it is you that is trying too hard to be insulting and edgy and in fairness, you are succeeding. Even if we take 1.0 out of the equation, when ARR came out EU servers were not actually physically located in Europe, so for a lot of us it didn't really matter where we played we were basically choosing between Canada (NA) or Japan. So I originally played on a US server for several years. Over time EU players have built friendships and FCs on those servers, there is no simple case of just "leaving" - we do not have guild transfer in this game you have to manually tear down everything you've built up and start it over (oh, you have an FC house? Good luck finding a free plot after you move). But in your seething rage you lack compassion so I guess making this point is wasted on you.
Now I'm not saying SE should accommodate that because at the end of the day, NA servers are for players where it's geographically optimal for them to play on NA. I'm just saying it goes a bit deeper than choice which by the way, we didn't have. And it isn't free for those players to leave either, which it should have especially been after the move.
From 180ms to 250+.
I don't know.
This looking bad man.
Sorry OP but this is what I considered unplayable:

And people who are 95th plus on drg, mch and bard are saying they had worse ping such as 130-200 when they got them.
Really gets the neurons firing.
i am german too, and I avoid 99% of other germans like the plague because I hate how some of them dont speak english...so whenever I would bring other people who dont speak german, they'd be left out.
And besides, frankly speaking, I have only ever had bad experience with the german player community, so i dont miss it at all. But again, as I said...there are plenty of servers where there'd be zero issues language-wise.
Most french ppl are on moogle, and most germans on shiva. But yeah, besides that, I absolutely understand why you wouldnt wanna leave your server behind.
Loooooool. I cry.. and laugh so hard XD. Back when hard mode was new I remember having some really serious "wut...?" moments. Three horizontal characters worth from the sand and still slapped in the face, awesomeeee! Memorized his cast order just to avoid attacks (was moving before the ability, worked it out with the FC so I wouldn't run a sand into their face). It's much better now though, I can respond to sands the moment I see them rather than worry in advance.
Only the northwest coast of South america should see a slight improvement. Im pretty sure Brazil is their biggest market in SA and everyone got fucked here. My ping went from 100 to 220 =.= a friend from argentina went from 150 to 250. Its very well known arround here that the route from most SA to the west coast is completely garbage.
SE took this decision without considering our continent, so I'll just quit the game and use the money with games that actually provide good service to us.
My ping is around 300 now. I've come to the conclusion that SE doesn't think we exist, I already had trouble with certain mechanics in fights like a11s and titan extreme, not sure how's going to be now.
You mean to tell me all this time, every west coast player was playing the game with unplayable pings? Boy was I fooled.
Horrible, literally. 180 and now 300!
This makes me very sad, because this game I like a lot and now I do not know what to do :(
Put your money where your mouth is people. The only way Square Enix will change the data center at this point is if you make it clear they wont receive funding for their game until they do so.
