They can rework ACN (Not ARC) and they might since people had been asking for a long time to separate these two.
They don't need to rework EXP, FATE's ect because healers get credit for healing. The only thing they would need to rework is Hunts and that's not so hard to do.
More like FFXI wouldn't be such a bad idea.
They don't have to rework gears either because Healer already don't have accuracy in their gears 51+. Crit works for healing and so Det for power.
They are already changing how tanks works in the next patch 3.2 so tanks may not even need Str or require little of it.
Healers will always be needed.

while I agree with your overall post, you're incorrect on the part I bolded. Crit and Det both affect healing ability, CRIT is especially powerful for SCH's adlo.

they don't have to do anything from your list. they just have to remove cleric stance. there is no accuracy on healer gear and det and crit are also healing stats... for the tanks they have to class-lock the accessoires and also make it impossible to meld 2 different mainstats into one item...

but what they really have to do is making content more heal-heavy. with the super fast ilvl increase we have now we don't need healers in the future anymore. that's also the real reason healers should start dpsing xD

I would love a Full Support class (the character in my signature is a FS in an old MMO), but I can't imagine how SE would make it without it being super boring and with tons of downtime. If they just remove all DPS skills and keep everything the way it is right now, would be utterly boring. Increasing healing checks is not enough.

Here's a crazy idea; maybe they ENJOY the current Meta.

TBH, I'd probably want to see something more heal intensive for raids too, but the person I was responding to wanted to take it to the point of having no attacks at all, as opposed to Cleric Stance (or rather as opposed to just Cleric Stance).

As for defending this meta, well? fun is subjective, people seems to have different opinions of whether not DPSing/healing constitutes laziness or not as well (especially in downtimes as you mentioned) and because the dungeon progression seems to be built under the assumption that people would get their gear exclusively from them (The post-Praetorium dungeons go from i50 only to i90-100 before Dusk Vigil, and their recommended ilevel matches), despite the fact that tome/raid gear exists and that we can get the AF1.5 armors from the level 45-50 Job quest for any class bar MCH, AST and DRK now, leaving only the relic and the non-belt accessories. Meaning that as long as the Tome and Raid gear are higher than the Dungeon gear, then people that are active will always be overgeared.

Of course making the raid/tome gear equal to dungeon gear means that the raid would be of similar difficulty to the dungeons. I'm not sure if this would be a welcome change or not, on the one hand, people did want more challenging dungeons, on the other I think some people would be miffed that dungeon gear would be a contender for BiS and of equal level to the Raid gear.

Also, why leave PLD outta healing during DPS downtimes? :P

So they should remove cleric stance and make tanks hit like wet noodles because as a WHM main, you still can't grasp that you're not meant to be healing fulltime? That's not fail design, that's a feature that this game has that makes healing much more involving compared to other MMO's. Flat out refusing to DPS when you have absolutely nothing better to do and using "but I'm a HEALER" and blaming game design still makes you lazy. I don't condone bringing tanks and healers to a braindead level of play just because you refuse to adapt to the potential of your role.

Every class will always have DPS skills no matter what. Otherwise players who choose said classes cannot complete solo story missions. There will never be a true "full support"

please read again, i never said that. i just proofed Morningstar wrong about what square has to do to change classes into only heal / only tank.

what i said is that i don't play healer anymore because healers are not anymore healers. a game with a trinity should have a trinity. just my opinion. i can agree that healers should have to do damage in healing downtimes. but it is a faildesign that these downtimes are 80% of the time and dps is of course not the reason i choosed to play a healer...

If they remove DPS Skills of the healers, won't the solo instances be hard or too long?

In the end it's healers own business if they dps or not, probably reason why I que to duties mostly as healer because I am confident of my own skills to do heals/dps.

If I happen to que as tank or dps and group is however doing great, meaning healer doesn't have to burn MP to keep up alive and I see him/her just standing around... Well, it makes me bit sad inside. But I won't kick healer from duty because they don't do dps.

It's always been like this, though, since the start of 2.0. Healers DPSing isn't something that started with Heavensward, on your first lv 15 dungeon during the first week that this game came out, you quickly noticed that you had a considerable amount of healing downtime 5 minutes into Sastasha; this is nothing new.

I'm going to quote someone who's probably extremely tired of posting in this thread, but this information is very relevant whenever someone brings up the trinity.

I honestly don't care too much whether the healer does dps or not, though I will say that it does bug me to see anyone not doing anything at all for extended periods of time. When it comes down to it, in these dungeons, I'm more worried about the tank doing big enough pulls. I feel that kind of drag a lot more.

That's never really been selling point for me though. It's gotten to the point where if I can spend at least 70% of the time just spamming dps spells as a healer, I'd rather go as a real dps job. Dealing damage with blm/mnk etc. is just much more interesting.

This is the dumbest thing I've read in this thread. Don't project your inefficiencies onto other players. You can choose to play the game however you like, but implying that other players should be forced to play the same way is idiotic. If you feel poorly that people don't respect your ability as a player because they expect something of you, it's on you. The Healer job is capable of doing more than just healing, sorry, it is a fact. That other more efficient players should be crippled by your insecurity is both shallow and dumb.

It's every healer's choice if they want to dps or not. The same is true for damage dealers. They make the choice if they want to be bad or good. But if you don't use your tools to full potential can you expect others to do the opposite?

Healer is there to heal unavoidable damage. Don't be afraid to let someone die when they stand in aoes or can't use defensive cooldowns. Let them die. The moment you realise that keeping people alive isn't just your job, but also their own responsibility, you might be more willing to turn the cleric stance on for few CDs.

Due to the overgearing system in this game, which is here to support less skilled players and stupid gear based dps checks, dpsing healer's are and probably still will be the most optimal form of playstyle.

The only thing I'd say is that it is a player's choice, not a healer's choice. They are playing a class capable of doing both. There is a clear separation of skill between those who choose to fully utilize their job's abilities, and those that don't.

The same argument can't be made for certain DPS classes. Dragoon for instance has very little in terms of moves that they don't use, and they're limited to Ring of Thorns and Feint. They aren't used because they lack efficiency found elsewhere in the job's kit. If a Scholar refuses to utilize roughly half of their abilities, some of which are off GCD and no rational explanation can be given, they are actively choosing to negate their benefits. No detriment could be argued for a healer that doesn't do damage over one that does. It's quite simple.

I was going to reply earlier on in the thread, though its a good thing I didn't. Please forgive me if Im off base regarding the nature of the thread with my Input, or simply repeating what has already been expressed in the thread. I wont argue why people play certain classes, but the point thats being stressed is that every class possess Tools that allow it to perform beyond what it's main role is, and " IF CAPABLE" One should make use of those tools and do everything in their power to help the team succeed (Lets put the Time factor aside for now).

It says something about a person who really appear to be trying, even when shit hits the Fan. I've seen a Monk Shift into Fist of Earth and utilize Mantra/Foresight/ and even Featherfoot in order to hold the enemy at bay, basically becoming a mini Tank...a very mini mini mini Tank performing a role outside it's Main Role a little just enough for the Healer to Quick Res the Tank and get everything back on track. Everything dont have to be chaos for this mindset to be in play either. People say " Oh if it's in Raid then okay, but otherwise just no " when the mindset itself isn't for any specific Tier of Content, whether it's Alexander Savage or Satasha NM.

Now I generally keep to myself regarding someone elses game play in game, because I don't know exactly why they play the way they do and why they aren't using all the tools, and Im not even going to pretend to know. They also aren't obligated to tell me and some people react violently when they percieve what "Can" be simply advice as being told what to do or how to play...I understand this. I'll be lying though if I said I wasn't bothered seeing a Healer Run to the end of the Hall and jumping twice as if trying to tell us to hurry up while the Tank was full Health, Mobs Half Health, and No Dots on any of them (And it was all the Mobs before the Boss so it wasn't like the Healer telling us to come pull More). It's Hard to tell if someone is really trying, but situations like the one I just described doesn't help any cases lol.

Opposite to the situation above, I was also in a Party where the SCH Healed alot, then tried to switch Cleric Stance inorder to DPS. Something went wrong and there was a Wipe. It was possible that the Healer overshot it in Cleric stance and the Tank got Wrecked because of it. What I can't knock the Healer for was Trying, utilizing all the tools they have. Just an improvement of their Judgement/Timing (Which comes with experience, not everyone come out with knowing how to do this in a superb way) and it would have been smooth as hell and so freaking Smexy.

It's not just about DPS as its not something designated to any specific Class, it's people utilizing or trying to utilize all the tools they have if they can to bring about success. Most of the stuff in this game can be done without it, but I dont think that's the point. Then again I may be way off base, in which case disregard my words.

Let's be legit here. Elitist players will always exist wherever you go. They're nit all jackass but most are, and that is something that always will be present online...just like real life.

So this will not change unless you report the behaviour in game. Because duty finder is playing with players who do not care about you, and that you might never see again. So venting on the forums is pointless, take actions in game. Forums are mostly game feedback, community is everyone. SE can't do anything about player being jerks to each other. But they can punish them if people stop being lazy and bother reporting.

I hate this shit, especially if it happens for like 30 minutes before we finally start to raid. I somehow may understand this happening in static (but still I hate this happening), but with 3 random people that I met right now and I will forget their names in 20 minutes, they suddenly don't become my friends. Do you talk to random people that you met in a public toilet? (a place that many people don't like to visit, but they have to - almost like running same roulettes for 100 times).

I guess I will put this in a way that kinda reminds me of school, I am sure we all know of a person at some point who in a group project chooses the easiest task or only does the bare minimum while the rest of the group is working. I was always the one who if I saw a member of the team doing nothing, I'd give him something else to do because we are all currently working, no reason for you to be slacking. When I see a Healer just cast a heal then look around or dance while all 3 of us are currently fighting it conjurers up that feeling again. Yes, your task is done but you also finished WAY before anyone else, so you can pick up a bit of the side work to help us all finish faster too.

I will put this in terms of Street Fighter 2 Turbo Special edition. If I play as Ryu, I can ignore all of his special moves and play only using punches and kicks. If any one tells me I'm bad at the game because that's how I choose to play shame on them! Just kidding, I'd be bad at the game and it would be my fault.

If there isnt anything to DPS (boss transition, etc)... yes, we will throw a heal.

The difference is you won't even realize we did, because it does next to nothing.

Next to nothing is still better than dancing with a thumb up my butt, though.

LOL First I don't feel "poorly" and Second SE seems to be aiming in that direction. Or then why would they take accuracy from all Healer gears? Why would they be changing tanks damage calculation? They want tanks to stop using slaying accessories. So in other words they are starting to move forward in the direction of defining each job role. If they wanted to get rid of the Holy Trinity they would had made jobs like GW2 does.

Well they have already said they will be adding acc again at some point I believe. But to counter that, why did so many dps abilities get added at the same time? And they haven't said anything about how they are changing tank damage calculations yet, unless there is some new announcement out I am unaware of.

No comment on those all those strong dps skills they handed out though? Because it doesn't fit with what you have proposed? Conveintly overlooked I guess. They must have only spent resources on them so that you could use them in the five new five minute class quests I guess...

Tbh, I don't think Tint understands the concept of there being a healing cap vs no damage cap. I dont need or care to have a SMN wasting their mp during dps downtimes as the AOE heal I put out will top up everyone else regardless. What I do care about is when I am low mp and the SMN throws out a rez to help me, which shock horror, Happens a fair amount.

Also, I don't think she understands just how bad or inefficent dps heals are, or how strong healer dps is.

Healers have always been slightly below the accuracy cap of current content, ever since 2.0 and even with the accuracy in 2.2 and 2.4. Removing accuracy in 3.0 means nothing because your base accuracy went up, you'll still have the ~90% hitrate or whatever it was in 2.x. There is literally no information on how tank damage is being changed and the only thing that we know for sure is that you can't overmeld main stats, which just means that most tanks will use old i150 melded accessories or i210 STR accessories for Midas.

SE is definitely not trying to say healers shouldn't DPS, otherwise we wouldn't have got stuff like Broil, Stone III, Aero III and Assize in the expansion. AST even got good DPS abilities and it was only added in 3.0.

Yes the base accuracy increased indeed but that was ONLY because we level from 50 to 60. Now we wont level anymore until next expansion, meaning that we will have about 2 years in which the healers accuracy will remain the same and the gap will get bigger.

Healers will get accuracy in the future, it's not anything different to gear progression in ARR. They will also be able to meld accuracy to raid gear to make them even less likely to miss.

The ONLY reason they removed accuracy from healer gear was to further pad the artificial difficulty of Alexander Savage. They didn't want people clearing it in a week like final coil so they made it insanely gear dependent.

The only holy Trinity I respect is celery, carrots, and onions. Jokes aside, Tanks using strength gear was in order to meet the intensive DPS check that was in Alexander Savage. It is also why the issue of Healer's being expected to maintain a solid DPS in that content also came about, because they made the content too difficult. The entire last Live letter was about how everything in the game was off balance because they made the content too hard.

That being said, you're still so incorrect it hurts. You still have skills that do damage, and as much as you want to pretend they don't exist and just stand around when you could be helping the group makes you a poor player. Also, go grab a dictionary and look up the word 'poorly' because I have no idea why you put it in quotation marks.

Lastly, Square Enix most certainly does not want to limit the roles of their Jobs. That's why they have a myriad of skills and abilities whose effects vary widely. If that were the case, the only abilities you'd have were heal, heal more, and heal more plus. Except you don't, though, and the developers aren't going to abide by your idiotic idea to pigeon-hole a class because you only want it to be played a certain way. Keep on playing how you like, but anyone can stand there and only cast cure. All a player has to do to be better than you then is cast Aero every fifteen seconds. Sorry, fact.
