i don't know about everyone, but i just want to feel like i am working towards something at every level. in xiv when you start at level 1 your main and only goal is to make it to the r10 camp then the r20 camp and get to do a short few minute quest. that to me is not something to work towards.
starting at level 1 there should be a goal that is just outside of reach for you to strive to achieve. once you reach that goal there should be another right behind it. the biggest thing to look forward to is oh yay in 2 more levels i can get this new ability. to me there needs to be goals throughout for people to have a reason to continue.
after a while just grinding to get the next level on a class without anything great to look forward to in the future it part of what hurts the overall gameplay. we should always have a next thing to look forward to.
even things such as a quest to open certain class specific abilities that are optional, but worth the time to do them or just a quest to gain access to being able to ride a chocobo. i understand things like this will likely be in the finished game, but it it the type of stuff i do want to see. there just needs to be goals from r1-r50 that are just out of reach for people to have the desire to advance.
I agree Darkstarpoet, in FF11 I always felt like there was something to work towards, and there always was. You also level so fast in FF14 1-10 it's like "what happened to my levels?!" If I duo with my girlfriend or a friend on a rank1 job, and leve link the TUTORIAL rank1 mission leve, I'll go from level 1-5 in 1 mob. The mob dies very easily and isn't even a challenge either. What happened to levels 2-4? Do they need to not exist? 1-10 also takes less than 5 mins.
Hopefully the leveling part gets fixed, because that's just completely retarded. There still isn't anything to strive for. I don't need to level to 18 for a SJ, I don't need 30 to unlock the job I want to play, I don't need 37 to finish my sub, I don't need 50 for AF1, I don't need 28/32/whatever for my RSE, I don't need 60 for full AF, I don't need20 for 2-3, I don't need 30 for kazham keys, I don't need to level up so I can get TH2 to farm better to get gil faster so I can level faster by having HQ/better gear, I don't need to level up more so I can farm harder mobs for more gil/hour or kill weaker mobs faster for more gil/hour,I don't need to level to learn new awesome looking or amazing WS/powerful ability/powerful spell(refresh? ballad 2? tier4 nukes? convert? sublimation? utsu: ni? utsu: ichi ?flash?) etc etc.
This game has no goals, and nothing feels earned, everything feels like it's handed to you for zero effort.. It's horrible.
that's basically what i was getting at, but i did not play xi so i am not basing that game on what i want to see.
people want more specialized classes. it would seem to be pretty simple to add a few quests for each class that you access for every so many levels. these quest would allow the class specific abilities and would not be able to be used by other classes. it would give someone wanting to specialize in thm for example something they would be able to work towards that only another thm can have and have that omg i finally got it feeling.
little things like quests to be able to access different aspects in game would be a great addition. i know things like these will eventually be in game, but just seemed on release there would have been at least a hint of these for us to see that they had things for us to look forward to in the future. outside the r42 and r46 quests there was really nothing in this game i looked and said i can't wait to see what happens next.
The first 20 levels (ranks) in ff14 are about right, then the exp curve goes up.
I think it is where it should be in exp needed for next level.
