It probably doesn't help that many DPS are guided to AK by their GC questline, and unless AK is cleared, that method of gear upgrading gear is completely locked out. The only way for me to upgrade gear is to hit the palace again and again - it's a bit of a frustrating experience from my standpoint to essentially be yelled at for following my questline, but I eventually got the message.

You occasionally find a group that communicates like a civil group and gets things done, so it isn't all bad. In my experience, when it comes to MMOs endgame, the loudest players are often the biggest liability to the group. It's always give them everything they want or they're going home with their toys.

I knew that as a BLM I would be at a huge disadvantage if I did AK in AF gear, so I spammed the story dungeons until I got a Darklight body and some other pieces, and now people don't leave my parties instantly. Not only that, being better equipped made me a little more confident in my abilities. The downside to having good gear, is that you look like an idiot when you die to something, or don't know how a fight works.

people really forget that a week ago, they were still new to all this. I mean really. it makes no sense. gear!=skill. item level was the stupidest thing ever to bring into this game.

Not True. I'm a BLM and owned AK with artifact gear + company weapon.

Sure I pulled down my party for about 4times in demon wall, but after that, everything went smooth, and the future runs went smooth as well. In fact, even with an AF geared monk, we still downed the wall pretty fast, we didnt even bother killing the bees.



These Elitist just needs to know that, even though some just have AF gears, they can still learn to play and make the runs fast if given the patience.

While it's true that gear does not equal skill, at the same time, I found myself in an Aurum Vale run a couple of days ago with a WHM in all gear from that first group of starting dungeons (Copperbell et al). We wiped again and again and again and again and again. It has it's place.

While I can understand that type of situation, where youve got gear that is WAY passed its prime, I cannot understand why someone with updated eq and AF would have to be rejected. and thats what is happening; that's the part that makes no sense. you are still within reason with your current equipment.

Ran my first few AK today, and good lord I felt like I was back in WoW with all these screaming little assholes. No, seriously they haven't "attacked" me personally yet but god, this last guy raged at the tank the entire freaking run because he forgot to pull two, yes, TWO enemies that were guarding the acc coffer. Apparently that makes him a selfish scrub despite being a very good tank that was rushing the bosses before maint and just happened to miss those two enemies. Run before that, healer bitched at the summoner entire run for getting knocked off edge at demon wall despite us winning, kept bitching until we left the instance. I find all this so damn funny because I look at these people, and every single one of em were new players. It really makes no sense to me these attitudes people have in the 50 dungeons.


And on a side note, gear does not equal skill but certain gear is needed for certain encounters, good example would be HM Garuda. AK, not so much...after finally going in there I was like, is that it? The instance everyone has been clamoring over is a freaking joke, very disappointing.

People can't learn if we don't teach. And really the game is NEW. 2 weeks old. If people want 'experienced only' Then they should FC/LS it. Not DF it.

That's the thing that cracks me up. The "ELITE" player are always yelling and screaming and I'm thinking, "If you're so ELITE...why are you in DUTY FINDER and not with your FC doing this???"

I expect crap when I use DUTY FINDER. There is a reason why we are using DUTY FINDER. It's because we don't have a STATIC group.

I had this dude rage and went on and on for about 10 minutes about how everyone sucked until he rage quit. Almost humorous.

In a way it's good and bad. Good in a sense that the game is showing success and bringing in new people and a new crowd.

Too many AK elitists honestly lol What I did though before running it was I went and saw a speed run video on youtube before doing it. That way I can at least know what i'm going up against. I ran it and didn't say it was my first time running it. I did die on the demon wall because I didn't know he could knock you off of it. But it happened to the rest of the elitist players I was with too lol so we just went back and took shortcut and now I know how to handle not falling off the fight.

The boss also is pretty easy. Just handle the adds and get behind a statue when he does his big charge move. Honestly too many give that place too much credit and expect dark light and relic or primal fight weapons to clear it. I can tell you right now that you do not. a GC weapon and AF is all I had and we cleared it very easily. The tank and other players were geared the same.

gear is just a tool. not a skill. although certain tools make certain jobs easier, in the real world, you wont always have said tools at your disposal. I see where in some situations tools are necessary, but this is not one of them..

Well said man. I miss the ffxi pre abysea community. After the free trial it will get a lil better.

The sad thing about this is that those who are elitists are mostly fairly new to this game as well. Everytime I encounter one, I view search info them and most of them have 1 level 50 class.

If there is any right to become an elitist it should be those legacy players who are max on almost every class.


But nope, these legacy players are actually the nicer ones, who laughs when you get wiped, still chill even though group fails a few times already.

Him: yup! We kill demon wall and the tank teleports to next floor and looks both ways like "where do i go?" Anyway, he runs it to boss and I raise him and he doesn't get into position for Anantaboga, so my DPS friend is like "You have done this before right?" Tank: "Well I had to make something up to get up to this boss didn't I!?" We kill it. 45 mins, meh...

That is true, I myself did AK in AF gear for the first time back during the release week. I have also done it with a friend who ran out of gold and is not using any armor since its broken, but we still cleared it pretty easily. However, what AF gear has become is an indicator that the person is LIKELY to have no idea what they are doing. It is an inevitable conclusion people will draw after failed groups and react to it accordingly. I think this is quite normal for a new game, it wasn't much different in Tera or even GW2 where gear isn't a huge factor to begin with. This issue is caused by the hardcore and casual groups being thrown into the same content, once there is higher tier content the entry level in this game should become much less hostile.

Skill is a loose term in MMOs, gear is always the first thing you look at. When you are picking between two people who you know nothing about, why would ever choose the one with inferior gear? In 40+ AK runs I have not seen a bad DPS in darklight gear, is it coincidence?

Honestly I think the current end game community is a perfect example why you need to join a Free Company. As weird as it seems people are more likely to stick their neck out for a brand new guild mate than some stranger of the street. Also you're less likely to run into these elitist A******* in a FC then you would in random situations.

Not to bash you i do understand and it's really stupid. but you should just que and say you have done it. first of watch 5 sec of youtube and you understand what speed running that place is like... all the bosses are easy.

I've done it one time first time i did it was a speed run i had watched prolly 1-2 min on the dung and just followed, played along rly. and the bosses are a joke.

Castrum easier than AK and gears you for AK. There is progression there, until you're mostly in DL items with an ifrit weapon, don't bother with AK.

I just pretend I don't speak English when bored and using the duty finder. Its just easier to look at a battle log, watch a movie in the other monitor or listen to music.
Personally, I wouldn't have put up with grief. Maybe tag like 10 mobs instead and hit leave on the duty finder so they get the snap aggro~! (Like if they were all jerks. Otherwise, just leaving is fine.)

I'd say people should be farming Wanderer's Palace before AK, too. Which again correlates with the whole "they really need to move the GC quest from AK to WP."

It's funny, though. The Palace is more intense for your healers (need lots of curing power and constant curing to keep the tank capped off) and tanks (need to gear for HP), where your DDs have an easier time there. It's the opposite in AK, where the DD requirements are stricter in that you have timed battles.

The whole problem with this is that it's nothing but a stupid grindfest for tomes and needs no skill whatsoever. I'm not a shitty player but I just don't have the patience to keep running the same shit over and over again because SE gave no better alternative. I would rather see a challenge for the gear than a stupid grindfest.

Ran Ifrit 33 (adding all the failed runs with idiot parties makes this 40-50) times without seeing the Cudgel at all, and then some bad players get it on first try. -.- And 33 isn't even an extreme example of how many times some people have had to run it.

Yeah, clearly ilvl70 gear(darklight) is required for a ilvl60(AK) dungeon. Wanderer's Palace(ilvl55) gear is more than enough for that joke of a dungeon.

Like you I enjoy watching the cut scenes but while people are watching them the timer for the dungeon is still ticking away. If it wasn't for that I'm fairly sure people would not mind waiting for those that want to see the entire story.

For a game that has been out less than one month? You can be damn sure I will blame ANYONE for not understanding new people need to go through endgame instances. AK is really not all this difficult, you just have to know what you're doing. The problem isn't people who are new to the dungeons, they can always learn and get better. The problem is people (new or not) who refuse to listen.

I seem to remember a "Live from Producer" episode that talks about player ethics and they've even talked about exactly what OP did. Well the message looks like it was well received /sarcasm.

Some advice.

1. Don't say it's your first time unless someone asks.

2. Watch the dungeon on YouTube to learn how it works and how to do the fights. I played with a white mage earlier, who was doing it for the first time and did a great job because she studied the content beforehand.

Got to Demon Wall with full-AF and Ivory Staff (LV 49). We actually did some decent DPS on it, but we were running out of time so we just left after two attempts. The first boss took a few tries because the tank had troubles holding aggro etc. but my gear was never an issue to us, because I knew what I was doing. To EVERY player who thinks this behavior is justifiable.

If you don't want to group with new players, why are you exposing yourselves to the possibility.

The answer is pretty simple.

A. You're attitude sucks, and other established players don't want to group with you.

Or...

B. You're in such a big hurry that you can't take the time to find like-minded players to group with.

Either way, YOU are the problem. Not someone whom you are not even giving a chance. I can understand leaving if a group is really bad, but when you are such a d-bag that you drop instantly... Might as well switch to whatever class is currently getting the fastest DF queue, let it pop, then withdraw again and again. Troll the new players without taking the time to actually zone.

I ran a new party through there the other day, 2 of them didn't even have the map achievement and the other had never beaten the last boss. I explained the bosses as we reached them, we wiped a few times (naturally) and eventually they cleared the dungeon. It took us about 90 minutes but for a first time through they did a great job and learned pretty quickly from their mistakes. I also had another group where one was new, I tried to explain things but all he did was ignore me and cop an attitude. When I asked him why he was laying dead for 15 minutes he just said "whatever, I'm only here because I need the f*cking quest". I wished the other two good luck and immediately dropped the party.

The point is, your experience in the dungeon isn't as important as your willingness to listen and learn from your mistakes and lots of new players are just people who need some help, like we all have at some point.

While your not entirely wrong your second point is. people wanting to enjoy the content and learn should not have to youtube the fights etc the game wasn't made for that. you get a better understanding doing the fights and dying more so than watch someone else do a fight on youtube. To that point as a healer i took a group on a garuda run and explained very minimal details to them just enough that they would survive until stage 2 of the fight. yes we whiped a few times but each time they got better by the 3rd try they had it down and it went flawless

Design flaw, trash mob in this game is literally trash. They dont drop anything good, they drop you 1 gil. No1 wanna waste time and repair fee for those boring fight.

However elitist in this game is unacceptable, the game is just out for 2 weeks and they pretend everyone know the mechanics.

The problem is simple. Lack of end game content. Token gearing is the mmo reality of these days. Let players repeat same content over and over to get a virtual piece of gear.

Why there are 20+ dungeons all the way to 50 and only one to farm at end.

With an average of 20 mins per AK runs, you need about 40-60H of farming to get a full set of dark light, it's ridiculous.

I don't mind clearing trash, helping others learn the game but at least make it fun DEVS.

Also giving 1gil per boss is a sad joke when it cost a minimum of 300-600 gil of repair.

Look, it sucks, I do not like these people because I was in your place once, but seriously. They are making a party and if they choose not to include you than its their decision. One the other hand, I am sorry the tank left because you never have done a speed run before, but it happened, just brush it off.

Do what I did, I am a Sch healer (sometimes WHM if I feel like it) and In the past 4 day I have added and been added to many peoples friends list to heal for them or have them tank for me. I did this by first shouting that I was new LF AK, eventually I got someone to invite me. I then learned and now I have many choices of people without having to do the dungeon finder.

It happens, it is the nature of the world, ya it sucks, but youre not going to change it with a forum post.

Just the other day, a BLM in my FC, who already has a full set of Darklight armor, said a tank left a DF AK group he was in, saying his (the BLM's) gear wasn't good enough. *shakes head*

I usually have the patience to help people on their first time doing any instance. However, I admit that I had days where I didn’t want to bother explaining things.

This mostly happened on a day where I went through the effort to escort a full party of new players through the dungeon. First boss went really well but then they kept wiping at demon wall. And it was always the dps that was the cause of the wipe. Eventually we ran out of time, meaning that I had wasted 120 mins for no gain except a heavy repair bill. But I got over it. I then proceeded to queue up for another run with other people, that also kept wiping at demon wall and then at the final boss. Again…ran out of time = 120 mins wasted.

I ended up wasting 2 x 120 mins for a minimal amount of tomes. I was annoyed that day, really annoyed. That I didn’t want to do another run with newbies the following day. And I ended up leaving the moment I saw that someone was new. But eventually I got my good amount of speed runs and gathered a lot of tomes. Which resulted in me being tolerant to newbies once more.

Long story short. We sometimes have our days that we just don’t want to go through certain crap again.
