Feel like you deserve Legacy? Help me help us.

When the game went P2P, I was already burned out and up-to-date on the content... Paying for it seemed silly, so I left. I returned with two months to go of possible billing, and I didn't even know about the "Legacy" thing until after billing had stopped.
I didn't get a single E-mail about "Legacy" benefits, despite people saying they were sent out. I didn't bother checking Lodestone for info around that time for a game I wasn't even playing. Yet here I am, not crying about, and neither should anyone else. I just don't see why people can't let it go, especially by now. SE is not changing anything.

Yeah I agree with what Yucie just said above... and to be honest, once I read the first three replies made by Tamaroe, Nix and Duuude00007, I just skipped to the last page to support what they posted. Been very exasperated with these types of threads but I wanted to respond because the OP presented the question in a decent manner.

Do I deserve Legacy? Absolutely... and its not just because I played since 1.0 Beta.... its because also there were those all over the world who actually believed in this game.

Time and time and time again people were begged to come back, to try the game and offer input on what they thought could make it better... and not that many seemed to heed the call. Yoshi and his Team have been writing Live letters and sending us email updates about the Legacy status for the best part 18 months. Let me even back up a little and explain some additional details...

In January 2011, the Dev Team emailed everyone asking for the first players poll on how to make the game better. This became the first of a series of polls that players participated in (most of whom consisted of the current Legacy players). We polled, we offered criticism, suggestions, ideas, and gave feedback every time there was a version update on 1.0.

Then in October 2011, Yoshi and the rest of SE laid out their future plans for 2.0, their upcoming welcome back campaigns and they clearly spread the word via email at least FOUR times that I'm aware of. Also, every major gaming website reported it and that Road-map PDF was virtually on every FFXIV related fan blog on the internet. After that, they sent very clear plans on how they wanted to commence billing (and amazingly enough I think the player base actually increased by 13% to 15%, which showed approval with how the game was getting better)

So yeah... I shall be very civic and polite in expressing that myself and EVERY Legacy player indeed deserve all the goodness that SE have given us. Yes we do.

I didn't bother reading the OP for a very specific reason; it doesn't matter how courteous he is, or how sensible he appears to be at first glance..

The fact of the matter is, these threads are too innumerable, and the core argument of each thread is the same at their very essence. I want Legacy because x, blah blah blah. It's annoying to read these kinds of threads over and over.. Especially on the forums that SE isn't paying any real amount of attention to anymore, with the beta-tester forum filling with new people each week. That's where the feedback is, and that's where it really matters.

People complaining and/or commenting on the fact they don't have Legacy, when they feel they should, is just a waste of thread; you could easily post in an entirely new thread.

First of all, these threads are hardly as full of these kinds of posts as you and many others would like to make it seem they are. Secondly, who cares? This is someone new to the community. Forgive them if they are not exactly experts at the so-called etiquette that you and a bunch of others have for the threads (as if we need back-seat mods). So how about just chilling out instead of being so fast to jump down someone's throat? The only real standard that should really be set, if any, is to be courteous and welcoming to new members. And your post was anything but.

Those threads are anything but? Feel free to check any of the old threads here or on the tester's forum of new testers pissing and moaning they didn't get Legacy, plus all the hate for people who did. XD Lol.

I understand now the reasons for the promotion (funding) and honestly didn't remember only paying 1 month before it went free until they worked all the kinks out (original release). All in all, I'd say this thread went pretty well. People might have been pretty negative, but at least they were thorough in their explanations, and the OP has come to understand the full situation.

Ouchmaker, you seem like a reasonable person. I hope you stick with the game, even though you didn't make Legacy. The player base needs more people like you.

Edit: On a side note, does anyone else think the SE support guy is trolling us by suggesting a person make ANOTHER Legacy thread? I mean, seriously.

I'm in your favor. If I'd were in your shoes I'd feel the same. So what I didn't pay for 3 month continuously. All that matter to be a Legacy member was to pay for 90 days/60? during a set time. So if you paid for more than 90 days at anytime , I think you should be legacy. <<<<< I would say this if I were in your shoes but...
The game came out in September and almost a month or two later it stop the subs and brought it back in Jan? So we have like three months of free time or something like that, an extended beta you may say. Legacy stopped in August so you had 8 month to reevaluate and sub again. And you only needed to sub for 3 month to get Legacy. And the time limit to join was long enough to get like 3 Legacy status. They did so much to overhaul the game an order to make it better and didn't charge anything for server time for 3 months. Also we were allowed to keep our creations and items. So If you didn't return during that period where they beg you for money and to see their improvements. Then Yes you have miss out. Besides you're not missing out on much. Just Having your toon in credits , a free chocobo and a monthly discount. Not much .


P:S My memory isn't so good , but I remember vaguely about the dates and legacy requirements so sorry if its wrong info ^^

The only reason I actually responded to your thread was that you seemed like a pretty good person. Usually I don't even respond to these types of threads, but yours wasn't terribly written. Glad to know my feeling was right.

I am pretty much in the same position as the OP:
1.0 Beta
CE Edition
Payed for the game for a while, but gave up on it.
Came back around 1.2 ish
Although, I certainly didn't get any "Legacy Campaign emails" or even find out about the Legacy thing until I heard people chattering in game, and saw it on forums. By which time, it was too late for me to sign up (I think I missed it by about 4 days... oh well).

Major difference between me and OP ? - i'm not Legacy, I don't care, and I think "Deserve" is a word used far too much regards this "Legacy" option. For whatever reason, you missed the boat. Now get over it, and get on with it. Play the game, or don't.

cant go worse then phase 3, doubt there gonna do something to break the game on launch day. maybe we'll get first day congestion. people who think this is gonna be a FFXI mirror image might say the game sucks when they play it.
or people who want f2p will say it sucks.

The only reason there's really a problem with there being "another thread" is because there are people who can't simply read the title, or begin reading the OP, realize the thread doesn't interest them, back out and go find a thread they do want to read.

No. They have to demonstrate their "lack of interest" in the topic, by responding to it with a post expressing just how angry they are that the post was created... even though they could have just ignored it and moved on.

People like to put on this facade of "being tired of these posts being created", but I don't really buy that. I think they love when these posts are created. 'cause then they get to lash out at people and feel justified for it. Must make them feel all empowered or something.

If you see a thread you're not interested in, or that you're tired of seeing, and you proceed to not only read it, but take the time to respond to it... you lose all right to yell at the OP for creating it. They didn't force you to waste your time on it. You chose to do so.

But of course, we live in a world where people have zero personal accountability, and blame everyone else for their poor decisions. The MMO genre's filled with them.

So.. par for the course, I guess.

I don't include the people who try to calmly and reasonably explain the situation. They're not lashing out. They're trying to clear things up, without ripping the person's head off.

That said, this thread has actually been far more civil than its Beta forum counterparts. The folks in there are some of the angriest people I've ever seen.

I'm not gonna attack you on this, I'm just curious if you continued to play from January 6, 2012 (start of subscription iirc), and how long you played for. If you did start up again on August 11, 2012, but played from January 2012 to the end of February 2012, you should have enough days for legacy. If that isn't the case however, you did not reach the 90 days requirement, which is a shame since it's obvious you actually do like this game and were ones of the early hopefuls who stuck around after the launch (just not long enough during the billing period).

Actually, it depends on when you leveled up those crafts. The OP obviously leveled it up prior to the billing period, at which time it was massively time consuming to level a crafting job. As someone who did crafting religiously from launch, I can tell you that it took at least 3 times longer to level a craft back then. I remembered when 300 exp from a synth was considered good exp; in the latest updates of FFXIV 1.0, I was able to score up to around 3,000 exp per synth.

It took me over 3 months of crafting and gathering to hit my first 50 craft job, while a friend of mine was hitting a new 50 craft every other week during the last few months of 1.0.

I'm a 1.0 player that isn't Legacy and I don't care that I'm not. I don't care that other people are, and people need to get over it. Plain and simple.

Sorry you missed out on Legacy, but at least you will still have your character with your crafting! I played from Alpha of 1.0 as well, and have two crafters at 50, I know what a pain it is. Best of luck in ARR. :)

Seriously I got at least a dozen emails telling me about the Legacy Campaign before it even began. The terms in each of these emails were made crystal clear. There is no excuse after the fact for saying "I didn't understand" or "I didn't get good notification". If you had a XIV account registered you got tons of emails as well. Saying otherwise is a bald faced lie.

You were either 1) too cheap to be bothered to spend $30 2) Didn't like 1.0 enough to be bothered to sub 3) Too short sighted to understand what Legacy was really about or 4) Had really bad reading comprehension and perhaps genuinely didn't understand the dozen+ emails you received.

Either way too bad, so sad, I'm sorry. You didn't fulfill the obligation that was requested of you and there is no way for you to do so now. These threads seriously need to stop. You're not missing out on much anyway. And if it was such a big deal for you to have gotten this status you should have completed the obligatory steps to do so when they were laid out clearly for you.

You failed. Deal with it.

Having said all of that I hope you still come and join everyone for the fun that ARR looks like it is going to be. I don't mean to be too harsh in the previous statements it is simply there have been lots of these posts all over the place and they all come down to the same thing. You didn't pay enough attention or didn't think it was worth it at the time and missed out and now you have buyer's remorse (or non buyer's remorse? idk how that would work in this case :P). I get it. It stinks you can't get stuff you think you should because you played the original, but you didn't fulfill the obligations of the system they set up and you missed out. Honestly it's not that much great stuff it's just nice little "thank you" type things anyway. And again I genuinely hope you enjoy ARR even without the Legacy stuff because it seems to be shaping up to be a very fun title.

Are ppl still trying to provoike a reaction from the OP? Last 10-15 posts have been nice, and then you get to the end and someone are still trying to provoke.

I glad to be apart of most of the FFXIV Community. Most ppl seem nice and can give a firm but nice respons to things, while others shouldn't even bother Reading or comment. I'm sorry you didn't get Legacy mate! There are no reasons for anyone to be rude towards the OP. If you think there has been to many posts about this, then DON'T READ IT. If the other threads didn't get Squeenix to change their mind, I really can't see this thread doing it.
