the "combat been too flashy" thread wants a word with you XD!!! combat is just about right for the level

As others have said the flinchiness when multiple people are present is chaotic and wierd. Its nice if, you know, a crit or your big combo finish attack affects the monster, but having it on every hit actually lessens the impact of doing your big bad limit break etc. Hopefully animation implementation fixes this.
Monsters flinched a lot in FFXI too with an alliance wailing on them. But they didn't "react" as hard? Used to laugh my ass off at a rampage/asuran fists making a raptor have a seizure.
Liking the Archer motions so far ^^
Also people complained about the slow text floating but it seems only whatever action you do to the monster floats up, while everyone else has the classic feel (minus status ailments). The 'text floating' seems more helpful in that way (In seeing how much damage you've done and what debuff is on the mob).
Could there be a possible filter on what information 'floats' off and what doesn't?
I'm sure they will continue these teaser videos come Beta. I don't know why people keep going at these videos like this is the way it's gonna be. It's only ALPHA! It's for working out the servers. SE have said many times these things are NOT as they will be. I'm gonna wait until I see some Beta game play before I get so nit picky. But being a player of 1.0 for almost 2 years and a big fan of 1.0 the last six months of it's life. I do appreciate getting a little taste of things to come, being I can't play said game at the moment ; ;. With out reading to far in the visuals. I love how it is looking and can't wait to see how it all turns out. I also hope media and other players give it the second chance it deserves.
They should make only when Crit the Iron Giant flicht
The video looks great! I think the problem with the flinching is that auto/regular attacks shouldn't visually affect a mob that BIG. Perhaps once you're at the size of the mobs in this video, they should only flinch on weapon skill attacks?
...also, it reminded me of this xD

Where'd the Final Fantasy victory fanfare go?
ARR = Win!
I can not wait to get my hands on it!!
Like a prom date, I am going to go to work on it and not sleep for a week!!
I think it would be cool if the mob reacted to a certain percentage of its hp being taken in one hit. Give a little nod to the big dogs and blms when getting crits or setting up a sweet skill chain.
I finally remember what the music style this new game kept reminding me of. Final Fantasy Tactics.
Looks great, and the music is wonderful!
then every game of all time is a spamfest by your definition. I don't know any RPG, MMORPG or action game where you DON'T use the same actions many times. They could make 500 actions for every class, people would still gravitate towards a select set of them becauseQuote:
All (most) MMO's are spam You know why? because every MMO I play, I used the same moves and spam them 121231123444322123, From WoW, to Aion, to Rift to Linage.... All the same.. even FFXIV and soon to be FFXIV: ARR. Spam doesn't really mean how fast you do it.. Spam is how many time you do the same thing.
1) if you really did use all 500 of those skills on a regular basis, the knowledge and skill level required to fully utilize all of them would be so daunting that few would bother and settle for a less optimal approach
2)not all of those skills are going to be useful for every fight, event or situation.
People on these boards are too damn quick to oversimplify things. people basically say "oh, its dumb, it's just 11112351348412311223123! spam fest!"- generally what skills you use when is important, where you're standing is important, your status is important... etc. It's not just about what buttons you press. If you wanted, you could oversimplify any game to "you just press buttons!" But if you say that as a reason some game is bad, then you must hate all video games, because guess what... for ALL video games, you "just press buttons!"
This is how fights against Malboros looked after release for comparison. You have to jump a bit into the video to see them but they are there, or you could watch it all and enjoy the nostalgia like me!
VIDEO
to be little more fair... you don't spam skills that long in regular pt grind. the mobs 3-5lv above your level usually die even before you can use 3rd WS in exp pt.
These are special case/illusion they made for Video... these turtles next to camp are not lv20...more like another 1.5X
I'm liking this, and it can only get better in the beta.
The enemy too fast. Sword doesnt even seem heavy. Hit animation on mobs is way to much.
My only complaint has already been mentioned.
The way the monsters flinch on every hit is strange, especially when they're the size of an Adamantoise. Maybe only make them flinch on certain Weapon skills, or critical hits?
I quite frankly didn't even want to bring it up even, but when someone says "It's going to fast it's Spamming".. when you can go slow and do the same exact thing it's spam.
Like I said, It all boils down to how the game in it's entirety feels like to determine weather or not it's worth the spamming. I know all games have some sort of spam to it. Which is why I said " It all boils down to how the game in it's entirety feels like"
That's my opinion, everyone has one :P.
And I agree, the mob does flinch way too much, I don;t even think it had time to hit anybody. Surprised he didn't fall over! :p
i agree with this to some extent, but if the battles shown took twice as long and half as many skills were used, people wouldn't be calling it spammy. That being said, the people who say things like "looks like all you do is 1111231122123111121141113112" is what annoys me, because it's oversimplifying something to make it sound as if it's mindless/unstrategic when in all actuality, it may not be, it just looks like it because it's fast.Quote:

Fast combat doesn't mean it's mindless, nor does slow combat imply more strategy is involved.
Please tone down the way mob spazzes out each time it gets hit. Right now it looks like a epileptic in a room full of strobe lights. Maybe only critical hits or something should get the reaction.
Ok I didn't notice anything bad about the animation of enemies getting hit. I don't understand all the complaining about it. Its a video game for pete's sake its not suppose to be realistic. The animation looks fine to me, its suppose to be flashy like an FF game is.
Love these videos, its looking good. Very excited!
That twitching effect when the monster gets hit by every single possible move is just horrible ;;
I'm sure you'll find ARR the perfect MMORPG. By the way, did you know it's been confirmed there's no physics or complete blending in the alpha build we're testing? Also, Flashy doesn't mean "Monster has a seizure on every attack landed"..no FF is like that, not even XI is like that on every monster unless it fits the level and direction triggers, for example a bunch of level 65 players exping on crawlers the mob will react to heavy weaponskills in an obvious way, however, Provenance Watcher won't even feel a tickle at 15 people spamming on it.
Watch the limit break trailer, if you find that as "nothing wrong"..then you'll probably accept when something is actually wrong with the game.
This video made me face palm.
On the video the party combat is a bit speed up or it's the normal speed of the game?
I'm inclined to believe this is normal speed. SE said they were making things more modern, most MMO and rather RPG combat is at a faster pace these days.
Ya but i noticed a fastest speed on the part of the combat party than the others. Anyways if that will be the speed i don't want to talk much because i didn't played it but i don't like it. I hate the speed of the combat on GW2.
Oh, and i find funny your nick it's Holy Dragoon and you're on Gungnir xD.
I personally think battle speed is way too fast. If you want speed marco your abilities and move your mouse faster.
Got to remember this is gonna be on ps3 also so gamepad players need to a have even playing field.
The game speed right now is fine, no need to make it extremely crazy. Garuda, Ifrit extreme you need alot of speed and if this is normal speed then... expect break periods when you play this game.
I love the UI, I can see clearly what the party members are doing without really having to filter my log too much. I don't care about the twitching of the mob, after awhile you don't see it any more. I like the pace of combat, faster is funner. Why would anyone want to slow down combat? Slow combat stinks... That's why they have a drop function in Tetris. If you know what you want to do, why wait for it?
I don't really care about levequests, but I liked the streamlining of it.
I don't really have any complaints about Alpha combat at all. I'm just anxious for the algorithms to get worked out so we can start cracking them.
P.S. I'm a gamepad player and I like speed.
IDK wth FF you guys played but mobs always flinched like crazy when hit even in FF 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 its always been like that. Load up any FF game 7 or above and its everywhere.
So to me ti looks completely normal.
I wish I had the power to reach through the interwebs and personally punch people in the face. Who in the hell likes slow paced battles? That's so boring... If its too fast.. then GOOD.. that means the rest of the world living outside the Final Fantasy fanboy bubble will actually like the game.
Good job SE!
Or she just doesn't understand what we are referring too...I think she just doesn't see the rag-doll physics that's being displayed, which is fine. I've QA'd quite a few games over the years and I can tell you all Beta won't look like this. And release will change a bit from beta.
All I see, are place holder animations, for that 'iron giant'. Feet wobbling/sliding when trying to move forward. There are no physics attached to the mob at all. When he gets hit he looks like a puppet on strings.
Patience is need, for these alpha videos they are showing.
The game is not coming out next week. We should all have are paws on the beta client come Feb. and soon after, be playing will our 1.0 save file.
Sometimes I think Yoshi and team are trolling us, cause they know what the future build has in store, and they just like riling us up. Also trolling the media, cuz SE has to know this kind of stuff is going to get bad press. As if they are saying... "Wait and see how are game is really like."
No damage algorithm changes and claiming system changes are going to fix this shitty battle system. The old one only needed animation lock removed to be perfect. My fingers hurt just watching this mindless spamfest.
I preffer slow combat, i find it more tactic, like the way using haste on gear to speed the auto attack on XI or the stun rotation, didn't want to bring XI but it's just an example. I'm not saying let's bring the XI combat here, but XIV 1.0 was fast enough, faster than 1.0 it's too much, at least for me.
