I miss the skillchains. I believe that was exclusive to FFXI for quite awhile. That is the one thing I would love to see implemented in 2.0 instead of combos.

What they said they intended to remove was v1.x's combo system's reliance on position - I believe PvP was mentioned as the reason. That is, for instance, where a combo would only trigger for a particular action if that action was executed from behind the target.. now in v2.0, it needn't be used from any particular angle for the combo to go off.
Which is a shame, I think.
The first clue that this person is a troll and you are wasting breath even talking to him. This phrase means "I'm just saying this to instigate an argument but I don't really care what you think and this may or may not actually be my opinion on the matter"
It's really not because the bonus effects weren't really worth the bending over backwards to be in the right position. But, if they were worth it, then people would cry "OP!"Quote:

Thanks Fens,thats what i meant ^^
Have you even played FFXIV? If you had a 3-skill combo you had to use the first 2 from the right angle in order to be able to use the following skills as a combo -.-
I think that is the most critical feature they remove from the game, I hope they might reconsider that. PvP is no reason, they simply can disable the positioning for PvP, but leave it for PvE.
Umm no. It's not.
It's almost like it's in the same genre. However that's silly, we all know that every single MMO ever is a completely different and unique entity separate from everything that came before it. You know, just like all video games.
Actually I'm fairly certain they said that the first part of every combo will still require the directional position but the rest won't.
Aion does not have GCD. o.O FFXIV ARR is nothing like Aion lol...
Every game has inspiration from something previously made, it's naive to think something is genuinely original. That doesn't mean every game is a copy. Comparing it with a dish of food, there can be two bowls of soup, both of them with chicken. But it all comes down to what spice and what you have on the side. It can make all the difference. So i can't understand why people put these threads up claiming it's a lookalike, or when you do some of the same stuff.
Hitting button 1,2,3,4.. Seriously!? You could just as well mentioned the whole keyboard. And for gods sake, it's alpha. Get it!?
Well to be honest the entire RPG designation as a whole is becoming fuzzier as time goes on as more games from other genres are taking on elements of the RPG genre. Since this game isn't a Shooter MMO or a Hack'n Slash style MMO, it falls more into the traditional category. This isn't to say that there isn't any room for any innovation, but that there's only so much one can really do and the "standards" that do exist exist for a reason. Because they have proven to, in most cases, be good systems when implemented properly. Even games that have claimed sweeping innovation, like GW2, really only changed the presentation of the same old thing we've been doing for a decade. Same objectives and systems, new paint.
It's hard to complain about a "123121314" style combat system when we know from 1.0 that at higher levels this simply isn't the case. There were rotations certainly but you could mix things up as needed and they were fairly long rotations, mostly because of combos.
As with 1.0, I don't think there will be much reason to activate skills outside of a combo aside from maybe incapacitation or a secondary effect not tied to the combo. What I was saying was that, in 1.0 each step of the combo usually had its own directional condition. If I recall correctly they said that in 2.0 only the first step of the combo would have a directional condition and that any that follow it can be executed from any side.
i used a controller never pressed a number in my entire 1.0 career, i prefer Controllers in all my RPG's over Keyboards and mice, i find its more relaxing.
the only time i use a Keyboard & mouse for gaming is for Tactical or Shooters.
Can someone PLEASE point me to these awesome unlimited means of attack for a DRG or BRD in 1.0 that DIDNT have you spamming the same abilities at lvl 20? I'd love to know...
I guess all that's left for us to do now is sprout wings out of our back.
