From my understanding they have rebuilt the game systems and coding from the ground up. not sure how long it will take to translate everyone chr's into the new format but i dont think it will be an easy simple process. My guess is they want to give the development team plenty of time to do this before ARR launches. Besides it has to come down sometime. i dont see why people are upset about allowing, the few who want to keep playing, the ability to do so.

Well 30% isnt many players and seeing as date wont be saved there really is no point in continueing to play XIV. The fact is regardless of how many players you try to keep by keeping servers open as well as no saving players are gonna leave XIV and may never return. What is gonna be funny as hell is when some1 actually gets a drop they really wanted and than they realize that OH SHIT NO DATA SAVES. Unfortunatly a majority of the player base wont be there to LMFAO at that person (unless forums are kept open and they post it). Yoshi is and has been making some bad choices and thats not good, and this last choice definitly isnt good for any1 not even those that wish to continue w/o data saves.

Okay, just to throw in some positive thinking here ...
Alpha phase 1 starts at end of the month. If lucky, giving some credit to internal stress testing, Alpha phase 2 may start 2 weeks to a month after phase 1. At that time, more general population will be accepted into the testing, in other words, a larger base "playing" their char. Once the necessary global stress test are completed, which can take place quickly because more likely the focal issues here are likely be more server related, beta can start.
So all in all, we may only see a 1-2 month downtime before the closed/open beta phase begins. If such is the case, then a postponed char save point really does not add much benefit.
Heck, we can dream, can we?

When is our character data being cut off? Originally they said 1st November, with shutdown on 11th, now they're saying 11th with game possibly being up after (at it will be).
