Please add various body shapes and skin options in character creation

It's hard to say what we have missed because the expac is not over, but so far we have missed: 1 (potentially 2) variant dungeons, a housing ward, lifestyle content like Island Sanctuary, Ocean Fishing update.
There might be more stuff, this was just off the top of my head.
The point is, you can't just keep increasing the content pipeline year after year if there is no budget increase, and I'm not sure why I even have to argue this

One thing to note is it has been stated that the initial limitations in the creator is a thing of the past and more things can be added now. It was one thing fixed with Dawntrail and is the same server tech that's being modified for the housing interior upgrades coming in 7.5. it has way more juice to load in more complex characters with more layering options.

That's why Yoshi-P keeps mentioning the character creator in recent interviews. It's absolutely getting an expansion in 8.0 but we won't know until April at the earliest on the details.

Not just a lack of budget, but more importantly a lack of manpower. You can throw all the money in the world at the game, if there is no increase in developers to make things then it's not getting any faster.

Yeah, realistically I don't they can adjust body shapes, at least that simply, because it more or less would be equivalent to adding a new race with how gear works or at least take a lot of work. I think it's fine prefering in the game's aesthetic, I like it, too or I wouldn't play. I just make the mistake of comparing myself to the characters and need to quit that and then comparing myself to the people who make the comments (and I need to quit that!), which to clarify I think it's okay they make, it's just a salt in a wound type of thing, I shouldn't have replied or at least probably should've wrote it better.

We need new faces and beard options.

Sincerely disagree here. Most players use maxed out or larger busts on their female characters and because the devs made the bodies with pretty average human proportions, they never look odd or bad at 0 or 100 on the slider. I make the request for buttocks, waist, and thigh sliders under the pretense it will be exactly the same type of reeled in, realistic proportions.

I think the extremophiles seen in modding circles becoming standard due to the few designers behind the mod skeletons have poisoned the well when like, giving us to option to add (or even remove) a few inches of our WoL's butt wouldn't break immersion but would still be a big upgrade to give us more personalized characters.

This thread took a predictable slide I see.

I'm in full support for more options to make characters more unique, this is a big company they can indeed expand this sort of stuff, all within reason and without tanking the performance. (there won't ever be fully neon green lalas)

For instance my friend has a fem au'ra that he'd like to be more girthy to fit her brawler nature and I have both character's who'd be nice to make more narrow and more curvy, like my main miqo'te who is meant to be a mature and world weary woman pushing past her thirties, yet the body type I'm stuck with just reads more teen to me. I also would love for better and more options for freckles/scars/tattoos that isn't restricted to just the face.

And this is without even mentioning small race specific changes they can do like decoupling au'ra faces from their horns, which alone would drastically increase creativity and diversity in this game.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that point. I think max boob slider looks ridiculous, like two over-inflated balloons taped to someone's chest. I can only assume sliders for other areas of the body would look equally awful. If they were kept subtle that could work in theory, but we all know that wouldn't appease the people asking for them.

I'm all for more personalization but I would be shocked if the average non-modbeast/pornbrained player even cares what their character's butt looks like. Dev time and resources aren't unlimited and if they're doing a character creator overhaul there are about a million other things that would be more beneficial additions to it in my opinion. To each their own though, obviously people are free to request whatever they want on here.

There's a very sizeable portion of the player-base without access to any mods that would love to have more options on their WoL. I'm one of them. More ways to personalize my WoL to be what she's always been in her lore would be fantastic. I'm pretty sure the options they'll add won't allow me to make her chubby, but I'd love if I could. 'cause she's not as thin as the game forces everyone to be.

I'll be honest you guys are letting those "mod beasts" live in your minds, they exist and will keep existing regardless on if this is added or not, so why deny vanilla players more creative freedom and access to making their WOL's unique just because of the 0.1% chance the devs will make the CC able to recreate monstrosities?

They will make any adjustments to the CC stay in line with the game's aesthetic, so you won't see wasp waisted make up disasters with busts and buttocks larger than comets, you won't see fully glow in the dark neon lalafells with giant heads, you won't see roided up gym bros with more tattoo than skin, etc. etc...

You will see more variety, you will see more unique looks, you will see a tiny percent less cat girl clones and the mod beasts will be beasting their mods where you can't see them, as usual. OP even states they don't want/aren't asking for anything extreme, so i just don't get why you feel the need to deny everyone else because of a group you can't even see, who only makes up a fraction of the player base.

So yeah, still in full support of things like this making it into a CC update.

Why does this need a long debate?

The answer to more customization options is always a Yes.

If you don't need it, then you don't have to use it. But more customization options in a role-playing game is always a yes.

Wait, I take that back now, they should let everyone go nuts in the CC and let everyone use the color wheel for every option from skin, eye color, eyebrows, hair, ear/tails, fur stripes, face paints, hair highlights because it would be extremely funny along with unlocked sliders for each face, height, and body type.

I want to see the height of FFXIV creativity just AFK in LL when I login that day and check everyone's new appearance out in the future.

I'm for adding more customization but then you see people here that dislike breast slider and similar because they think its too "sexy" for them or "it looks bad for me, so let's remove it for everyone". Let's not do that but instead add more things.

It is not very much on a middie sadly and I would like just a little bit more nothing weird. I want a larger shape for thighs and bottom and not to look like a kid. I hate all the out of proportion looks I have seen and think they look terrible so something that is within reason just to add some shape would be nice.

I play on console and never even when on PC would use any kind of mod. I like the Midlander females and would play a Highlander but they can look a bit too masculine for my taste.

I will always support more customization but I would be hesitant to expect anything too complicated. At most I would imagine something like a waist, thigh and butt slider, depending on how the gear works but I doubt we would get anything that changes the actual "mass" of the model (like adding fat for example).

Personally though I would much rather prefer face sliders over body ones if I had to choose. They would be easier to implement too since they don't really mess with the gear (aside from maybe glasses,) not that both wouldn't be nice.

Waist, thighs, arms, etc could be possible since those "bones" already exist (the skeleton that models are rigged to for the purpose of animating them) and they could use the system they already have for racial scaling to allow you to adjust those, any butt scaling however is unfortunately rather unlikely.
Because butt "bones" do not currently exist, which would mean adding them to the skeleton and then redoing the rigging for every single piece of leg gear in the entire game to use those bones.

While what we've gotten (especially optional stuff on the online-store) is more modern street wear than the fantastical tech we're used to it's still stylistically fitting to the game even if the theme is mismatched, though I guess S9 has legitimized it in lore now as much as i don't like it myself. My comment was more that you won't see tramp stamps or body mods or something out of second life be added into the CC, they wouldn't break the style that badly.

I find that one rather debatable. Allagan and Garlean outfits, while still comparatively sci-fi have a distinctly XIV style.
The modern street wear we've gotten for a while now is just that, clothes you could find in a real life clothing store right now.

I actually think it severely clashes with the established clothing styles of different cultures we've experienced in the game so far.
Even with the existence of S9 (which really shouldn't exist) a lot of the modern outfits do not fit in with the look of their architecture and technology either.

Consider it more of a personal opinion of mine, I really could not give less of a rats ass about what implied era of clothes other players wear in this game, that ship sailed years ago. I also rarely feel like an outfit, even among the modern stuff, sticks out in a bad way (when it does it's pretty much always modern stuff but not exclusively) even if the theme is way off from what this world have to offer... until S9 slapped it's ugly dome down and now one could just say it's from there.

I'm not a fan or a defender of the modern street wear flooding this game but at least the clothes looks like it's *from this game*, because my point isn't about fashion style but graphics and artstyle, you could argue that modern clothes breaks the latter but I'll just point to it being my opinion and move on.

Onto the topic of this thread, or more accurate my point on that initial comment, the scary mod beasts that somehow makes adding body sliders bad... it's a non issue, the devs would not make it so logging on looks like a session of VRchat, with hordes of neon characters all "enhanced" with back breaking breasts that look ported from a different game altogether, as that is what one would imagine when they think of the worst of the worst amongst modded characters.

You would have to be willfully obtuse to deny that the overlap between people asking for body sliders and people modding their characters into engorged abominations is very significant, and those people want any official sliders to be quite large. I have seen the posts requesting as much with my own eyes. Therefore it is not unreasonable for anyone to voice their concern about body sliders being taken to an extreme, especially in an era where the devs are looking to "fulfill as many request as possible" to use Yoship's own words. I am entitled to voice my concerns about the sliders here just as much as you are entitled to voice your support for them.

What you'll actually see is all the usual suspects maxing out all the sliders and continuing to look identical lol. But as I said in the previous post, if they were kept subtle that could theoretically work out. I'm not so sure that would appease most of the people asking for them though.

I would find it superior if we had a color wheel to choose skin tone than the grid pattern we have. I do find it lacking.

Even with hair, sometimes it is so hard to find that exact shade you are looking for.

Meh i would like full sliders to every part of the body, like sims 3. And if people make crazy characters thats just funny to me lol. Why not let people do that they want you know.

Face options please, more colour variety for eyes/hair, at least let our eyebrows be different colour to our hair too.

I wouldn't expect body sliders given you'd end up with butts clipping through dress's / coats, warped textures, clipping, the normal character model its not exactly an advanced model and clothing would need to comply too.

Crazy characters would suck, the game has a theme.

I think the issue is the FFXIV world has been going through an extremely rapid industrial revolution from the get-go of 1.0 and now we're pushing the 8th expansion and we're well past hard sci-fi between Allag from frame one to Garlemald to the Lopporits to the 9th.

That's not unusual for Final Fantasy as a franchise to have hard sci-fi elements, been a thing since the original in the series with the floating city and Warmech being the first "superboss" of the series, but saying we're sick of streetwear glamours is different from saying you don't like science fiction and I find it really hard to take the latter as an opinion and somehow never catch that it's been part of FFXIV since the beginning.

Anyway.

I just want to give my character body freckles with the same coloring as the few on her face. That's plenty for me.

I am glad to see you are aware of your entitlement to voice your concerns and I am aware of my own, but my comment had nothing to do about silencing concerns, it was about the contents of said concerns and my opinion of them, especially those who is against these options be added to the CC because "modbeasts have shown us the horrors that would unleash", to quote your earlier agreement against sliders in this thread.

Because butt "bones" do not currently exist, which would mean adding them to the skeleton and then redoing the rigging for every single piece of leg gear in the entire game to use those bones.

Good point! Though I do still think that if we were to get body sliders that a butt slider would be included, even if it was extra work simply due to how popular of a demand it is. Imagine the kind of riot we would have if SE released body sliders without a butt slider. I could be wrong, obviously yet more likely would be some body presets if we're ever getting body customization since those would be easier for SE to control and work on. Personally I would prefer if they did move towards sliders for both the face and body customization, especially if the game is gonna run for another decade but we'll see.
