Okay then, we're good! Sorry for misunderstanding.
But seriously, the idea that a nose ring option will destroy the visual identity of the game is a wild take.

Because nose piercings look trashy and attention seeking, considering Tattoos are the bodily equivalent of Graffiti in a run down ghetto, piercings are pretty much the metallic trash cans in front.
Theres a difference between aesthetics and vandalism. Considering the games already solid visual identity after all. You wouldn't paste tacky stickers on a Lamborghini, would you?
It’s the ultimate way to strip these unique fantasy races of their inherent charm and replace it with a generic, low effort modern template.
This has to have been the funniest forum thread ive ever read in my entire life LOL
its not funny... why you think it is is beyond me, but seriosely people talk about hideous but also are fine with half naked chars running around with gaint chocobo heads, or dressing as xmass bs or a turkey or some stupid bs but draw a line at piercing, or tattoo seriosely
I'm not one for inked hides or face shrapnel either, but it's also not my body, real or digital, so people should be able to customize themselves as they see fit because its about their own expression, not whether I'll like it or not.
Worst case scenario, there's a blacklist if one wishes to cast anyone they deem unfitting from their sight (whether its from character customization or glamours), and we can always just ask for more slots.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. This comes off as just bad faith.
You deciding against piercings and tattoos is the exact same level of personal self expression. Comparing my cutesy tattoos to public vandalism promoting gang activity is just offensive.
"You wouldn't paste tacky stickers on a Lamborghini, would you?" I can do whatever I want with my Lamborghini. I wouldn't put a sticker on yours because I have sense. I don't crap on your taste because it's not my body or belongings.
Wow.
im not 40 either.. and no people legit have these hell im 30 and i got my first piercing well my bf at the time did my tongue.. which didnt go good.. but if anyone trolling its you your legit attacking a style just becuase your some worthless person who don't want people to have the style they like, so i think your trolling either that are your just some a-hole
and ya hildy pisses me off in game so those the stupid type of stuff people dress up as, and these same people throw a fit when you ask for just a tattoo or piercing? also really 40? a vast majority of people have atleast a nose piercing and some tattoos many under 20 lol
Community: dress as as a dumb... with xmass enjoy hildy or run around with gaint pig head/froghead/ chocobo heads : oh it cool
Request: a decent look for a style many of us wear in every day life that is awesome, and part of honestly a culture people: no it gross or w/e and turn ahole over it
Piercings and tattoos would be awesome to have but I don't expect them to implement them, let alone do it well.
But holy moly are there some joyless pieces of work in here. There's a cool thing you can do with your eyes, I do it every time I see something I don't like - look away and move on.
....I wasn't aware the FFXIV community hated goth/alt style this much. A bit disheartening to see all of the extremely hateful comments in this thread, not going to lie.
I think there's a lot of both extremely silly looking and extremely boring looking things in the game, and a lot of styles I personally can't stand. I don't like the cutesie pink aesthetic many go for on my characters, but celebrate them being able to create the things they enjoy.
Why are tattoos & facial piercings such a point of contention...? I'd personally love if stuff like that was added to the game and would use it. I understand not liking the style even if I personally disagree, but to claim it's the 'most ugly trend' in a paraphrased way is a bit much.
Do people hate RPR and DRK looks in general or something?
Can someone explain to me why there's such a deep dislike for the style without just being insanely insulting? Why would these be a problem when all these mascot costumes and other silly things aren't? And if you do have a problem with a lot being added... I mean, same, but you don't see me putting down people who use it? Even if personally I really dislike most of the new hair added?
I'm just trying to understand why people feel the need to flip out over the idea of creating characters with certain styles and being like 'I DONT WANT THAT ON MY SCREEN' well tough, there's a ton of things I also don't but you don't see me demanding the removal of or putting down people who want it.
This exact wording itself is coming off as narcissistic as hell though. What 'charm of the game'...? Why is what other people use for their characters such a problem, and why not find an FC with like-minded people in that case who restrict glams, I guess? Like, you're claiming others are narcissistic for liking certain looks while you're here complaining about their choices. I think you need to look in the mirror.
For a community bragging about being so kind and open, the things said in this thread make me laugh at that notion. I'll chalk it up to the forums just being a toxic wasteland in general given some of the complaints I've seen here (and likes on them) when lurking.
(And yes, I'm aware OP is derpy and spouting nonsense in many ways, which is frustrating to those of us who want stuff like this don't come across as some irritating teen, but still.)
not really derpy or nonsense when trying to make a point ~_~ ... you obviously don't want it strong enough to put in the effort (and really teen i dont come across like that at all.. just stating facts that typically people who go against are those old sacks of meat who started things like the satanic panic) plus none of its nonsense because i can prove it all lol
Your choice of hair is the personal eyesore I'm talking about (which is subjective and I'm sure looks good to you and plenty others) and yet I support your use of it.
Also yes, your text tone is coming across as incredibly immature.
As for me, short of posting I want facial piercings and more tattoo options with my 'ted talk', no, I'm not going to put in more effort, I have better things to do and know it's unlikely they pay attention to the forums at all.
I'm just posting to make a point. Good luck.
I mean ffxiv doesn't have the right highlight combo to go for what I was going for believe me I tried for hours to get a good mix of purple, and black for more of the feel i wanted but doesn't work..
Ill give you that immature thing because i cant help that
Tbh if you make yourself loud enough you can force people to listen ~_~ even if they don't want to pay attention
Depends I just don't want them to go too far, Things I've seen on twitter that are apparently ff14 look nothing like whats in game.
as long as they dont go overboard in general I'm fine with those sorts of customizable options.
It's bad enough they added Thundercats to the game.
Why would I not talk badly about something that offends my eyes and sense of harmony? Honesty is a virtue after all. It’s exactly like property value: you can do what you want inside your own house, but the moment you let the lawn turn into a junkyard and paint your fence with graffiti, you’re dragging down the value of the entire neighborhood.
Oh bloody hell...
I'm not a fan of tattoos or piercings either, would even outright call them a turn-off with how much I don't find them appealing, but I still acknowledge them as body art and that they may hold value and significance to the person who gets them as its still "their body their choice". We don't get to dictate their personal aesthetic any more than they can dictate ours, least of all in a video game where even the company behind it puts a lot of emphasis on personal style, and allows for some tattoos and piercings already.
If you admit it’s an unappealing "turn-off", you’ve already conceded the point. The difference between us is that I value the virtue of honesty over performative politeness. You acknowledge the visual pollution but choose to defend it out of a misplaced sense of virtue. That’s how neighborhoods decline, other people watching their neighbors lawn turn into a junkyard and saying, "well, it’s their choice to be trashy."
I think adding more customization options is great! As long as it fits with the lore, art style, and what we've seen from npcs. Thankfully there's a lot that could be added based on this.
Tattoos and piercing need not make your character look like they're from IMVU. There are lore friendly tattoos that I'd like to see added, like the ones on the Skyworker's Singlet, Pagos Chestwrap, or the Yakaku Dogi. I think if they could add these and make them separate from your character, that would be amazing! Keep in mind the devs would need to at least change their body model and texturing somewhat in order to do this, so dunno if tattoos will be coming any time soon. But it would be nice to see as long as it fits with the lore.
Muscle sliders for all races, Au Ra Horns separate from faces, and body sliders are all stuff they could absolutely do while remaining lore friendly. From what I recall. Some npcs have different muscle slider data on races that don't have that option for the player, so it seems to be possible in the engine. It would just take extra storage per-character.
Having different texture options would be great too, I think. Some npc faces already seem use this for some makeup details and stuff like that. One thing I really would like to see is the ability to tint Au Ra scales. Yugiri's scales have a slight green-ish blushy tint to them. Varshaan's scales have some dark overtones. The new Au Ra shown in 7.4 has greenish dark scales with light patches.
Overall I'm of the opinion that if NPCs can look a certain way, they should try to give players similar options as long as it could fit in the lore. Yugiri is just an ordinary Au Ra, after all.
Body scars would also be another awesome thing to add, like what Lord Hien has.
As controversial as the graphics option has been, one thing that it has done is give the devs the ability to easily port features from one face to the next. That's why they're excited about adding more mole options and scars to all the faces. It can be done easily now, where previously it would have been a very difficult task. It also gives them the ability to more easily add face variations/sliders to the faces. It also could allow them to easily separate the au ra horns, since they all line up cleanly with the universal face mesh now. I really hope they do this.
I think the only thing holding them back now is the increased amount of character data that would be needed to store the new features, with the increased server overhead that would entail. In order to implement more moles and scars they would need to do this anyway, though so I suspect we could be seeing some extra options in 8.0.
TLDR: You can add more customization options without ruining the art style/lore, and I think they should. The graphics update makes it easier for them to do so.
there is a huge difference of having your yard filled with "garbage and overgrown grass kind of stuff" and having your yard with personal decor which is exactly why i think HOAs should be illegal.
Using your yard example, thats like calling someone's home trash because they have Halloween decorations out year-round, with personal flavor hell my dream is to have a place where i can build a personal cemetery in the front. comparing a Style to.. garbage trashy lawn is just wrong of you
The more customisation the better.
"But what if it isn't lore compatible?"
It also isn't 'lore-compatible' for my Lalafell to ride around on an exact replica of Cruise Chaser, but here we are.
"But what about piercings and tattoos?"
They found piercings and tattoos on a 5,000 year old preserved mummy. If glorified cavemen can have them, then so can our Warrior of Light.
I mean, given the amount of modern street clothes they’ve given us it’s not like more modern day aesthetic customization options would be that out place. Plus I mean earrings exist so they gotta have some way to pierce stuff, right? Lol
It’s not my aesthetic personally but I don’t see why it would matter if other people had the option.
I mean the thing about solution 9 is it did make a lot of that stuff "lore friendly" and fit the art style, I guess... As long as we're talking from the events of Dawntrail onward and the inevitable technological exchange that happens every time two countries with differing technological levels come into contact. I'm personally have very mixed feelings on the solution 9 stuff, to say the least, but I hope they don't forget about the area since forgetting about it just wouldn't make sense from a lore perspective. Thankfully it takes time, but the impact that solution 9 has on the rest of the world should be massive over the coming in-game years. Not doing so would be a borderline retcon, IMO. With the collapse of Garlemald and the introduction of Solution 9. Pandora's box has been opened.
Many of these mods have a particular IMVU look to them that's hard to put my finger on, that just makes them completely out of place, even considering Solution 9. I think it's something about the details in the textures or something... But a lot of the modded streetware looks different from what the devs have released, in a way that's hard to describe. This is a good thing. They should stick to the FFXIV's art style. As long as they do that, customization options are awesome!
Honestly I just hope they let us have more options in general. Like, let all the races have scars, let more races have a muscle slider, let Au Ra choose their horns without being tied to face. give Miqo more ear pattern options like the one male face does, there are so many strange and arbitrary feeling things with the customization in this game.
People are gonna do all of this with mods anyway, regardless of whether or not it's allowed by the ToS. They have for years already. If Square wants people to stop using mods, why not start beefing up the customization options?
Then again, the majority of people who use mods on the regular aren't just going to stop using mods because there's more base game options, but that shouldn't be the reason the rest of us have to suffer. I love my WoL and her design, but it would be awesome to get more stuff to play with.
(I will personally sacrifice the most pristine hecatomb if it means getting a nicer looking freckle facepaint.)
I've conceded nothing, I just choose to not be a judgemental busybody about other people's preferences. THAT is the difference. It would be akin to me heckling and harassing somebody for what they put in their outdoor furnishing slots and then acting like they can't judge mine... which is pretty much just two half-naked retainers and nothing else, an eyesore for many I'm sure (assuming anyone ever visits the Goblet on Maduin).
But if you want to insist that people should call out other people's fit, you're welcome to open yourself up to like criticism because you can't be "honest" without being "fair". And right out the gate I really don't care for any hats or things that obstruct my face (just like how I don't wear earrings), but hey, it's your choice to be... whatever it is you thought you were pulling off. (Lord knows what you're dressed like from the neck down.)
And before you ask, I'm pretty sure my own attire offends someone's sensibilities, or they think I'm "everything wrong with FF14" and why they should be able to make people appear in "default" outfits on their screen, and they're certainly welcome to black-list me the moment I cross their path if I disgust them so.

Why, we could even go one step further into that whole "you should only play what you are IRL" nonsense some people bring up in an attempt to police other people's character creation choice. I'm a white guy (presumed human) in the flesh, so the idea I'm playing a black catgirl in-game probably makes someone clutch their pearls and make all sorts of assumptions about me, though the only one they would be correct on is that I am in fact a pervert. I don't ERP though because that's just weird to me, but people can do whatever in their own house so long as they keep it out of my yard. (And now I'm wishing we had some kind of water-hose spray emote just in case they don't.)
This is such a pathetic HOA karen thing to say including everything else you've been spouting. I can use the same argument against any of the aethetics you like and demand to never see it or have anything you want added because 'to me it's an ugly eyesore and therefore doesn't belong in the game'. What even is this logic...? Why do you, specifically, get to dictate what's 'trashy' in a video game where we have dyes that range from vomit to pink eyesore and everything in between...?
Because even if you do have some ridiculous notion of authority, you've failed. If everything in the game is something you already like... that's an obvious lie and you're already spouting pointless nonsense. This whole 'higher authority' attitude is laughable. I couldn't imagine being as miserable as 'well I don't like the style and if I see it it ruins my experience so it shouldn't exist and other people are the problem',what a way to live.
This community, I swear to gods.
relax a bit, you seem to be struggling quite a bit with someone not being performatively nice, and you might be taking it a bit too personal.
It would've been way easier to just say. "No, I personally hate those styles and would never use them."
Which is how I feel about all the psuedo-tribal gear and the demonic inspired gear in the game, but others do and love that stuff so w/e. We can voice our distaste with a suggestion pragmatically.
Honesty without compassion is cruelty.
You can disagree with other people's sense of aesthetics, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that doesn't give you a right to be insensitive and hide behind the "but honesty is a virtue!" excuse. There's no virtue in what you said. You could have easily expressed your exact opinion without being rude.
I personally do not care for piercings, as they're not to my taste at all, but having the option to permanently keep tattoos found on gear like the Skyworker's Singlet and many MNK AF sets would be amazing. Lots of great tattoos that go forgotten and could easily make a new category of accessories for like we have for face accessories. Some of them are likely cut off by the gear hiding parts of it (and devs might have not bothered to finish them under the gear as we'd never see them) but I think they could easily populate a category like this with many already existing tattoos. Having these be expanded into body scars, freckles and the like would also be great.
I'm guessing if they ever added piercings they'd go straight into the face accessory tab.
I wouild love to give my Viera or Xaela more earcuffs.
One of my character has the helix of her ears pierced near the tips, at least In-Character.
But having the sakura blossom tatoos from that one eastern gear would be nice too, though Ilikely wouldn't use it.
So who made you the authority on character customization?
No one did, but if you people were actually reading my points, instead of pretending to be offended, then you would know that I never claimed to be. Also none of my sentences were cruel in any way, I just shared my opinion in an honest way with an exciting and vigorous choice of words.
All you people did, was prove my analogies correctly, be it the 30something year old myscape poster talking about graveyards in their garden, the one guy proclaiming himself a pervert 5 times in a singular post, as well as the Lvl90 Machinist ERP enthusiast with anger issues.
Well, I tried to explain where you erred and how your own logic could be used against you, but you seem committed to whatever act you're trying to play for responses.
Thankfully it's equally easy to block people on the forums when they're an eyesore here too.
This reads like you would wear a full diving suit in the swimming pool and get angry when others say it's impractical and odd. It's bizarre and socially out of place for that environment, but since its proper swim wear in other contexts and modest, the OTHERS are wrong for their confusion and for dressing in trunks and bikinis.
Like, the only word that comes to mind is puritanical. And your avatar is really cool! I like the style you went with! Nothing about her would be changed unless YOU wanted her to!
Will I be lumped in with the gooners if I humbly request more eyeshadow/eyeliner patterns
Well, the outfit isnt the problem, but the weird self flaggelation, public display and calling himself out for playing a dark skinned miqo, while arguing with someone else that pretty much plays a character with the same race and similiar skintone. It felt a bit extra and confused to say the least, like trying to pin some other dislikes onto me, while completely ignoring the fact, that my own character pretty much looks the same. It just feels like trying to force something extra, when theres already plenty of things one could criticize me for, without inventing something I potentially might dislike.
