My feeling completely. It’s like the game remains the same and just gets “stretched” out onto new areas. I wanted some new gameplay systems and content ideas to be introduced, like when Shadowbringers introduced sidequest sync, shared FATEs, and leveling delivery quests for DoH/DoL.
Nonstandard is a serious issue of the class. Server tics is literally brought up as a problem of the class that has existed since ARR. Every single expansion, players have complained about server tics. Every. Single. One. They fixed issues, but in true SE fashion, they didn't address the root problem with a degree of understanding required to actually fix the class. For example, the reason nonstandard exists is because the umbral ice rotation does very little damage, and swapping from AF to UI and back is also a huge damage loss. The obvious solution to that while still forcing standard gameplay is to make UI have a real rotation, and make swapping do real damage. Hell, why are we using level 35 skills all the way at level 90, soon to be 100? Wouldn't we have learned how to swap with better spells?
Why is fire 1 and blizzard 1 separated from fire/blizzard 3? Would it not make sense that as we grow more skilled, one upgrades into the other? There's a reason I think this class will get a hasty rework during DT, and probably will get something akin to monk treatment between now and 8.0 to fix the actual design flaws of this class. Not just a quarter of them while the other 3/4ths are left hanging naked in the breeze for all to see.
It really bugs me that they're making bold claims about this expansion supposedly being comparable to an "ARR 2.0" when they couldn't even bother updating some of the core gameplay loops/systems like hunts (Which are still using nuts for the third expansion in a row when Centurio Seals were retired after two expansions).
I wonder as people have mentioned the damage numbers of BLM vs Picto if theirs a list of what the numbers will look like.
The initial point was that they were being cheapskates, there's nothing cheap or low effort about upgrading the textures.
Now as for your point, you have a point only if it turns into a unhealthy obsession. Upgrading the graphics for the 5th expansion is hardly a "unhealthy obsession" with graphics wouldn't you say?
The biggest problem with BLM for a beginner is how horrific the leveling experience is.
It's missing critical skills at low levels, it feels awful to play all the way to near cap and your rotation/how the job works literally change every 10 levels.
There is no point in even discussing "making BLM better for beginners" until what's, imho, the worst leveling experience in the game is changed. I'd love to see numbers on how many people start as Thaumaturge and change to another job before cap. I definitely wouldn't stick to the job if I was starting XIV tomorrow.
(Over half of non-standard lines don't even need mana ticks, so they could've gotten rid of those without even changing the core of the non-standard lines. But I was even referring to that anyway, idk why we're pretending that was a thing a beginner did when playing BLM. I don't think TOP p6 min/maxing is "beginner BLM" territory)
And, fwiw, awful leveling experience isn't a BLM-only problem. This game is abysmal before level 80. It's almost criminal they force you to slog through all the msq while deteriorating low level gameplay with literally every expac.
So It looks like we aren't going to be getting the combo buttons merged into one after all. Makes no sense considering it was done as anti-button bloat measures. We ended up with the potential to have even more buttons. Seems like wasted resources imo. I was really hopeful that I could merge my basic 123.
Looking at the screenshot you can see that they used the Dragoon Actions & Traits window and Nastrond and Geirskogul are usually a shared button, but they now have an option to separate while there is not an option there for the AoE actions. So I'm assuming it wont be there for the single targets as well.
I won't know for sure until I try the new job changes out, but I really, really like the direction SE has taken with a lot of the changes!! The high APM-loving person I am is rejoicing right now to have more buttons to mash.
Edit: I do think EW's direction was a little disappointing (just because it seemed like it oversimplified a lot of the jobs). But it seems like Dawntrail is making strides to find the right balance between complexity and ease of learning. I wouldn't know for certain until I try the jobs, though.
For most job they did nothing but add 1 mechanically inconsequential skill.
dawntrail doesn't feel much like an expansion, it's more like a patch.
And this is with 4 years worth of development as opposed to 2.5 years in the early model of ARR->HW->SB. They used to develop more content in less time.
Maintenance mode continues.
MNK, BLM and AST getting some reworking done... But aside from those, everyone is mostly just getting upgrades to some attacks and one new attack tied to their damage increasing CDs...
While as a tank main I agree that is disappointing, particularly as a DRK whom have needed changes for a long time now, that still doesn't mean the expansion is 'frugal'
As the other one posted, a graphical update is more than just hitting a button. It does take effort.
From the notes:
When editing character appearance by way of Fantasia, players will have 60 minutes of in-game playtime from the initial usage to re-edit their appearance as many times as they desire.
If you don't like your new appearance, I wonder if you can go back and just revert to original and get the fatasia back for later use. By the sound of the above, you'll have to re-create your original appearance, ending up looking the same, but losing the fantasia.
They have a point when you look at the bigger picture of resource allocation, but it's been obvious for years that the PvE battle system devs and everyone that evaluates their work just don't care, so even infinite time and money wouldn't result in anything more than some more Bahamut reskins.
It's not a matter of not enough resources, it's a matter of the game's design philosophy that is fundamentally broken. They could add as many bells and whistles they want to combat design and it'll never be fun as long as the fights are scripted and predictable.
Like many mediocre game designers nowadays their only tools are making things follow a script, or making things follow a RNG.
AST 7.1 rework confirm.
Astro Lost Lords 1 per minute, 2 cads (1 in burst window) in 2 min and Macrocosmos now are lost DPS. In general Astro its around 20% weaker than in 6.5 and will have struggle in old ultimates, also AST dps its HALF what whm can offer... and we have CARD DRIFT - because cards have 15 sec buff and Divination is 20, so you need hold your cards 5 seconds to optimize your rotation with raid buff.
ASTRO need FIX:
Macrocosmos make it neutral dps
Cards: make it 20s
Potency buff to Malefic skills in all lvl range.
My main concern is gear. We can't see our creator characters in all of our gear and glamours, so you have to commit to do that. If I switch to hrothgal, will my gear be re-shaped to fit, or will I have to run around naked until I find something else to wear.. If re-equipping begins to look like a chore of finding new gear and re-doing my glamours, I'd rather just revert.
They don't have an unhealthy obsession with graphics. There have been complaints for years both valid and nitpicky here, on Reddit, on Facebook, on Twitter, and anywhere else where there can be feedback about the graphics in this game and how they needed to be updated. On that point, there's a clear history of this coming from player feedback.
I'm tired and I dont know how to do math, someone just tell me if they fixed Pictomancers cursed AOE rotation
All credibility is lost when someone uses a phrase like "maintenance mode" to describe the polar opposite of it. Maintenance mode is when nothing new is being added to a product. We're about to get an entire new MSQ with side quests, raid storyline, alliance raid storyline, etc. that will easily be 60+ hours of new content. That's more than most "expansion packs" for games add to it. What expansions generally don't do, however, is utterly and completely change how a game works.
I'm confused with the person who linked this as a response to the graphics update. We're on the 5th expansion (counting ARR as the new "base" game), and this is the first significant graphics update they've done. That's the complete opposite of an "unhealthy obsession" with graphics...Quote:

Do people struggle to read intentional hyperbole that much
I don’t need to be told that “maintenance mode” means “they aren’t putting enough new features into the game or they aren’t reinventing the wheel” and that “obsession with graphics” means they are putting it above gameplay
Is this like a regional difference thing, I used to notice it annoyed renthras when he was still on the forums, intentional hyperbole is totally normal as a speech pattern where I’m from
Ah yes, hello my pretty!

I'm so excited about the changes for Monk, the additional combo layers they added for the different Monk stances is gonna be so frick'n nice, and i no longer have to worry about monitoring a DoT on enemies. \o ,.........., o/
