Thanks for the well written post OP
So lemme get this straight:
You hate the game.
You hate the story.
You have nothing but contempt for the writers, the gameplay, the instances ( BTW I aint doing Lapis Manalis as anything BUT a reaper )...and, I still need to wrap my head around this, you paid REAL MONEY to do little else than to come here and rip the game to shreds, citing REDDIT as a credible source that "everyone hates the game"??????????????
Seriously?
I LOVED that solo scenario and the cutscene was a revelation, backstory on Zero and a serious look at her motivations...
REDDIT??
The site that makes Mos Eisley look like a Sunday childrens church gathering?
"We all want Yshtola gone" - SAYS WHO? You?
You could have watched a replay you could have read a review, but no you spent REAL MONEY to play a game that you had already expected to disappoint your high and mighty sensibilities..oh and leave buuz alone, thanks, I have a friend who made some for me, handmade and baked to perfection, I could SMELL that food when i saw that scene ( trust me, fresh buuz cooked with loving hands made my taste buds stand up and cheer lustily )
Mate, I gotta tell you, I made a mental bet that in less than 48 hours you'd be here doing just what I expected you to do..here you are in less than 24 hours having binged it all in a single night ( less than that, actually, as the patch hasnt been out a DAY )...all to expound upon us all how bad this game is and how ( you said this earlier ) " we should all be playing something else "....I am yet to understand why you did this and what your actual motivation is.
I am not one to tell other players " if you dont like it, quit", but at the same time I am at a loss to comprehend whether you paid real money to play the patch..or you spent real money just to dump ice water over everyone else who seem to be enjoying the hell out of themselves.
Including me.
Some people just want to be mad at games they hate. However nobody takes you seriously if you're mad at the game you haven't spent money on, so particularly crazy people will spend money on game only to mention that in their "mad at game" postings in hopes that it will make them look more credible and more 'valid'. It does not but it does make them look even more stupid.
Looking for validation of your opinion to seem more correct is childhood playground crap. Stand on your opinion as nothing but YOUR opinion.
I find it dumb when folks talk about things being predictable like we don't get live letters hinting out and giving us clues about what's coming up. Many people were complaining about Zero not having much character development yet then when the story DOES give it to her it's a problem. Same song and dance we always see with the community.
But hey I'll say, if you still want to pay SE for things you don't like be my guest.
i LOVED that solo scenario as I love reaper...I expected a "duty failed", man was I surprised, and pleased. my ONLY issue is yellow aoe on a snow white floor tileset, SE ya might want to work on the colour palette a little? Maybe the aoe can be a darker yellow or a different colour when on a white floor?
( Yellow snow no not going there nope nope nope.....).
I dont think his issue was the character development per say, rather the means of how the character develops via his writing. The "growth by power of friendship" is getting a bit formulaic even for a FF game. I think the solo duty scene does it well, but I would rather have more of it then have Zero go immediately to "I do it my own path now". It was smart to have her be questioning the system already but to immediately do it is another.
I still have some apprehensions about Zero, but I think the attention for character growth is nice -- its more than some Scions have had for a while.
I guess I don't call it "power of friendship" unless its made more obvious like against the Endsinger. (Done very well imo). As you say Zero is questioning it all. That scene where she lost to those 3 guys was a nice way to show she DOES have that resolve somewhere within herself but just like the time in Garl it would seem she's missing a key component. I'd call that trust in others as she was alone both times that happened. In Garl she had us there to pick her up n keep fighting. Similar situation to ES but far more grounded I'd say.
Her speaking with the last fiend was a good move as well imo. He's my favorite of the 4 (dank music as well xD)
I think there's one major point everyone's overlooking.
This is a filler arc. It's not meant to be 'life-changing philosophical storytelling' like Endwalker was, or a 'flawlessly written post-apocalyptic isekai' like Shadowbringers. It's basically "Hey, we need a short story involving an established threat, to lead into the next major story arc. I know, let's do an FF4-inspired story that deals with the voidsent, they've been quiet for a while".
It took LITERALLY the base game plus 2 expansions to even build up to Shadowbringers but you want them to bring out something amazing right away? Sorry this is not a stand alone FF game where they have to rush the plot. They are allowed to do serious set-up here and to any older Millennials playing this MMO seeing the FF4 assets used this way is nostalgia turned up to 11.
btw on the Alliance raid maybe go watch the cut scenes again it had nothing to do with Dynamis. Graha just brought it up. Let me ask you. What type of magic do you think they used when they created those objects? They literally repeated a line that one of the main characters said at the end of Endwalker. That was the give away for me as to who the 12 are right there. I mean come on.
If you are going to come on here and criticize one of the better Alliance raids I have seen in this MMO maybe pay attention to the story first. They are literally wrapping up one of the biggest questions everyone had after they gave such detail on the convocation.
Thasco: I concede the point. Agreed.
Only I never said this.Quote:
They don’t owe us ANYTHING. The sub for this game is cheaper than Netflix. Yoshida pours his blood, sweat and tears into this game and we pay pennies in exchange. I think we should be grateful that we’re getting anything at all. This isn’t Blizzard that we’re talking about here, this is Square Enix. They’re doing what they can with the small amount of resources that they have
I agree with it, I think FF 14 is wonderful and have enjoyed myself immensely,. I think FF 14 is a labour of love and they have worked damned hard to get it to where it is now...I think people like you will dunk on it just to be negative, or to be wannabe edgelords.
I appreciate all they have done, have never said the game is perfect ( Ive said the opposite in fact ), but to all intents and purposes, it stands heads and tails above a lot of the thousands of games Ive played over the last three decades..I have seen some stinkers, trust me, Club Dead. Descent to Undermountain, two or three of the Leisure Suit Larry games, some horrible indie games...so, thats my take.
If you dont like it, thats too bad...but as far as I am concerned, FF 14 is one of the best I have played in a very long time.
Jaded cynics and white knights need friends so let's put shelter and thin skinned people in there with them.
I prefer "blind" to the overwhelming negativity I see here every day.
Safety spoilers
I get that it's a filler arc, but I still feel like there's been a decided lack of intrigue/suspense with how little information they've been willing to disclose about Golbez's motivations, and despite it being a grand total of three patches into this story arc, the sole thing of major significance we've seen him do was having Rubicante break the void gate.
It's impossible to parse how he intends to carry out this grand scheme of his aside from it involving the moon and maybe Azdaja somehow, and that has me inherently feeling rather disinterested.
Wish it was more filling then. Cause these bread crumbs of plot advancement are wearing thin. And YES I understand that the whole point of post Endsinger was for the plot to take a breath. And I can appreciate that. Having lower stakes for once is nice. No one cares if we save the 13th or not so we don't have to feel the crushing weight of all existence relying on us. It is legitimately nice to have a mission where we are doing it cause why not? We're bored. This place looks interesting and fun monsters to kill.
But we are big badless. We have no sense of what is coming next. And if we have nothing to look forward to we tend to look really really hard at what we are doing now and seeing its flaws more and more.
Me neither. I see the story as a treat once every 3 years, other times I just play 'cause of the content.
Oh and BTW, feel sorry for the OP who obviously has a bone to pick with Y'shtola. Consider her "promise" with Rin, she's more then likely gonna be around for a long long long time.
Imagine still caring about the story after the clownfest that resulted the ending nor culmination of 10 years of FFXIV.
I see you believe in Cynicism is for Losers, but you're falling too hard on Idealism is for Kids.
Be honest. We know this place is a cesspit of negativity, both for comprehensive reasons (this is the only place where the devs claim to get their feedback from, so naturally this would be the most critical place), and for ridiculous reasons (people like to nag).
But being blind isn't going to do any favours to anyone either, and you're just going to feel even worse. Sometimes, people do have proper criticism and feedback to present, and yet are shut down due to any perceived negativity. Just as much as how a game cannot grow with negativity alone, denying that this sort of behaviour exists and is commonplace about people trying to fight back that negativity won't help it grow either.
No sense of what's coming next? I feel this is only the case if you've skipped cutscenes. We already know he's trying to break the barrier between the 13th and the Source. That alone is an issue. It's the how that we don't know. This patch told us why.
Also were not doing this simply because we're bored. We're trying to save our friends sister who has been missing for some time now. There's plenty to look forward to as there's quite a bit going on. I'm not seeing the issue unless things are being missed or skipped over
Not at all. Cynicism is a healthy thing in some circumstances, its a worthwhile brake on impulses, a good dose of it is helpful in making judgement calls. Its a useful trait to have...in measured doses. There is such a thing, however as a cynical or negative outlook all the time...it is not conducive to survival or a healthy , balanced mindset.Quote:

When all you see is negative in all around you..thats a YOU problem.
Oh, I know.Quote:

I feel fine. I am not, however, swayed by those who see the worst in everything. That sneer "white knight" is a good example of a totally negative attitude, which I reject utterly. I have never said the game is perfect, every game has its flaws. FF 14 however, has done well, better than most, and in my estimation at least, has more positives than negatives to its name.Quote:

Hardly unreasonable.
Quite frankly, there are people here who would sit and criticise a sunrise because it isnt the colour they want. If its all the same to you, i will trust in my own judgement and perceptions, there is constructive criticism..and there is the kind of "its all bad its a bad game lets go play something else" mentality because THEY dont like it and expect you to blindly follow THEIR agenda and their worldview.Quote:

And yes Aveyond did say that "other games we should be playing". I will follow my own judgement, thank you. More than happy to listen to whatever you have to say...doesnt mean I will agree with it.
Here is cold hard fact.
FF 14 1.0 to 6.3.
If others cant, or wont, see what has been accomplished in that time, see and acknowledge the sheer hard work that has gotten us here, then they are beyond help. yes I AM a fan of YoshiP...what we see around us now is testament to the fact they have busted their rears to get us this far. I trust him and his team, I respect them, and to be bluntly honest, there are more than a few game dev teams who could do worse than learn from their example.
If that makes me a 'white knight", so be it.
It's the total lack of any clear suggestion as to the "how" that's bugging me.
Even him just making some vague statement as to what's going to make that possible is how you build suspense/intrigue. Having a simple declaration of intent alone doesn't really excite me.
His progression so far has basically been:
6.1:Wants to start a war for the 13th's salvation somehow.
6.2: Wants to start a war for the 13th's salvation that involves the moon somehow.
6.3: Wants to start a war for the 13th's salvation through death that involves the moon and breaking down the boundary to the source...somehow. Has Rubicante destroy the voidgate so we can't interfere for the time being.
Compare to Elidibus in 5.0, where his progression was:
5.0: Wants to end the Scions using warriors of light.
5.1: Takes Ardbert's body.
5.2: Starts masquerading as Ardbert, moves to build faith in the warriors of light, then awakens people to the Echo. We now have enough information to get the gears turning and start seriously questioning how he's going to execute his 5.0 scheme.
5.3: Is revealed to be a primal, at which point things clicked for a lot of people and understood why he was doing what he did.
The problem to me is that Golbez is not setting up anything for us to actually parse information from or at least try to in some meaningful capacity, and it's feeling like everything is just going to be dumped on us all at once in 6.4.
Not going to lie I think in true Golbez fashion, that basically Golbez being FF4 Golbez and he is being manipulated by the big bad of 7.0.
I still think Zero might be evil and manipulating us as well and is 7.0's Big bad hiding in plain sight. https://lparchive.org/Final-Fantasy-...7-image041.png
One can say not knowing IS what's building suspense. I personally prefer this approach as I personally find it interesting when the villain doesn't show all of their hand. I don't need them to tell the story how they did with previous characters cause we've been there n done that. I think Golbez is more dangerous BECAUSE he's an unknown. He's a wild card in which any than happen.
Hell one of my theories is he is our shard from the 13th who's being controlled by someone else. Maybe someone who doesn't have their own form as of yet. Idk man I find this all fascinating
Yes the Elibuss is the better herois than the Gomez. Reason is because Elibuss is the No Shadow God. Is already win but we look more. Gomez is just the random who hand out pamphlet for revolution but no one come. And Elibuss have the better story. He fighting against the damage to brain to be remember why he fight. Is the beautiful.
No Cage to Cage. Do not do this. Resist temptation. Is illegal.
Precisely.Quote:

With its corollary: no battle plan, no strategy ever survives contact with the enemy.
