[Salt thread] Owning a House Offically became Dead content for me

All I can really say is: keep pressuring SE to genuinely fix the broken dumpster fire of a system they've put in place (rather than repeatedly applying poor band-aid fixes that don't address any of the core issues of how they did their housing system)… but don't expect it to actually get fixed any time in the next decade.

Anyone interested in housing would be better served moving to an MMO with better housing, such as ESO. All instanced, vastly different locales to choose from, different house styles, tons of furniture, lots of control with decorating (don't even need to use a third party tool to move on the Y axis, imagine!), many even come with yards for those who want them. Blows this poor artificial scarcity neighborhood system out of the dang water.

You can try not making your enjoyment in FFXIV contingent entirely on owning a house in FFXIV.

They will add more wards, and you may yet again, lose. I don't say this to be rude, or mean. I say it because it's the truth, and nothing less should set your expectations.

I've heard lots of good things about ESO housing. I also remember Rift housing quite fondly. SOLO had some insane options like flipping things around freely and creating a completely free layout of walls, floor tiles, roofs, levels but was mostly limited to chinese style.
Of all the games I've played, FFXIV has the most limited housing both in terms of availability and design freedom.

Honestly, now that i have done what i wanted with my house and i have got the island sanctuary where i spend most of my time, i wouldn't mind letting it go but only with a full refund, land, house and a bonus for furnitures that i won't be able to sell or stock. Which would be around 25 M for everything.

Not that much for a middle house in empyreum with a marketboard in front of it !

They should really add the possibility to sell a house with a lot of restriction, like having to own it for at least 6 monthes before selling it, not being able to own more than one house per account, one house sale every 2 years, no possibily to go back once you apply to sell it, and of course limitation on the price of the house (Base price of the plot+house minimum to prevent fuck up and x2 (x1,5 for great plot) maximum to prevent real estate agent wannabe).

I would agree but how exactly do you value the furnishings inside? How do you determine what's a "great" plot or what is worth the 2x? Would it be just solely off the market board placement or is it being near a landmark enough or both? For example, I have plot 41 in Empy and it has an MB less than 10 steps away + is the only one in its division (if you check on the map you'll see what I mean) + the park right outside. Would that be enough to qualify for the full 2x? Or would it be only those that are around the outdoor spa?

If it were only so simple. The trouble is likely the ward system itself, which has everything split into 2 spaces (more for FCs). There are about half a million plots all together. What's supposed to happen with those? Any addition / change would disrupt those people in some way, so things are kinda stuck as they are.

I do have an apartment, and I do. Designing it to maximize both functionality and space took a long time, but it was worth it as I use it all the time.

It's nice to have a house for landscaping and to have a larger space for folks to hang out in, but I was quite happy with just apartments and FC rooms when houses weren't available. I had a house years ago and lost it due to life circumstances and when I came back they were all taken. Lacking a house didn't negatively impact my enjoyment of the game. Decorating's a lot of fun, but unless you're willing to spend a ton of time crafting or a ton of Gil buying new things, it's not content that can be fully utilized frequently. Unless you RP and/or are redecorating frequently the once-and-done of a house essentially turns into bragging rights "Hey look plebs, I've got a house because I wanted to decorate, but it's all done and I don't redecorate, so now all I have is a house that I don't really interact with!".

If you want a house "because decorating", apartments and FC rooms are a lot more available and affordable to constantly redesign than a house. If you want to argue that apartments don't have enough item slots, I'd suggest going over to ffxivhomeandgarden on Reddit to see just how intricate you can make an apartment.

I gave up on owning a house years ago. I had one that a "friend" gave me money for that turned quite sour. All I'll say about that.

I'm happy with an apartment. It isn't huge, but I can make an amazing War Room in there!

There is nothing else, its all there is to the Island. Right click resources, right click animals, right click plants.

Once you build everything theres really nothing to see or do. Nor is there a reason to visit somoene elses completely identical island.

Housing system is designed to force player to pay the sub, or else u gonna loose all ur housing progress.
And my fantasies with own FC wards, where friends can place houses next to each other will be a fantasy.

Game has a lot of other issues like clunky chat, awful friend list functionality, small datacenters (with long queues), laggy marcos and etc. And housing only somewhere on middle of the list, to fix it now.

For those who have had houses for a while, housing is actually pretty boring. Not much to do with it, while Island Sanctuary has a few things people have wanted for housing that makes it more interesting and fun. Plus the fact that you can actually queue up for a duty, and exit INSIDE the place helps. A lot of people would probably use their houses more if they could queue up for a duty and leave the duty to find themselves back in their own houses.

That would be me since I also have a mender right there. The one big thing I'd want for housing, aside from that, would be having a glamour dresser available to place.

Yeah, it's really good, if you are willing to spend hundreds of dollars worth of premium currency on your house (or houses), decor, lootboxes, your paid subscription, etc. Unless that has changed since I last played.

I see that you are in Shiva. I would strongly urge you to move to Alpha or Raiden. Those two new servers are on your datacenter, so you will not be cut off from your old homeworld. You will be guaranteed a house - there are over 1400 personal houses still available on each of those servers, and many more FC houses. You can still keep in touch with your friends. You can still send them tells seamlessly, and you can form a cross world linkshell for group chat. Duty finder will work just as well for you as on your old server, since it will be selecting from the same pool of players. Again, I strongly urge you to consider moving to these servers. You will be making the least sacrifice for a guaranteed house.

Any new servers added beyond these will be on a new datacenter. If you wait for those, then you will be facing a more drastic move which will more significantly cut you off from your old community. You will sometimes suffer long duty finder queues due to the low population of the young data center. You may see item availability/price issues in the marketboard. Yes, you can still use datacenter visit to see your friends in Shiva, but it's not the same as just being able to talk to them directly and then visit by clicking on an aetheryte. Do not miss the amazing chance that you have right now.

I'm a bit weird, because I actually find visual progression fun. I really enjoyed seeing my IS slowly expand over time. I personally am not trying to make a case for it being fun, but it is very rewarding content for the time being, if you are interested in certain kinds of glamour, mounts, and the like. Hopefully they add more, and make it more customizable with more things to do in general!

Don't forget being able to hang up your weapons and shields. Felt real good having a hall of all the epics I worked on with my guild. Speaking of which, guild housing was 100x better than XIV's FC housing. The teleportation hub alone to outside areas your guild can decorate was amazing!

I have stated before, I would only gather if I had something to watch or listen to on the side or background multiple times on the forums, and even then it would only be in bursts. What does that tell you of how I feel about the content? I found the rewards satisfactory, and the visual progression enjoyable.

In regards to the Doman Enclave, I did enjoy seeing it being built up over time.

I for one enjoy redesigning my apartment. I do it often. I would love to have a viable option to owning a house so that I can do more of what I want without having to be aware of what I can and can't do because of limitations of the system, or just a flat out lack of continued development for apartments, but I don't. And because of the lottery much like you OP I am also done with the housing lottery system.

It wasn't just luck. There's a reason I have leveled 12 alts to 2nd Lt. and L50 or better.

I own Keen Uneek sandles, and as with owning a FFXIV house I get joy from doing so, but I don't think saying so is bragging. In fact, relating the joy I get from these silly shoes might lead to other people enjoying them too, so why not share the joy?

If you wanted to refute what that person said all you had to say was "I get enjoyment from my house which I got through this system, and so do many other people."
