Isn't "Blitzballer" just Ranger with a non-standard weapon?
Isn't "Blitzballer" just Ranger with a non-standard weapon?
It's not a Job at all and never has been. "Wakka" is not a Job. He's barely got a distinct spheregrid. All of his "unique" abilities inflict sleep, silence, darkness, etc... stuff that by and large doesn't work in any boss fight in FFXIV. So it's dumb to even be on the poll.
I really want a mystic/oracle/taoist/onmyouji class. Something involving exorcism, yokai, paper talismans, etc... Anything that is eastern inspired just like samurai and ninja. I don't really want them to be a debuffing class, though I could be sold on the idea if it's good in raids and fun to play. I think I'd prefer onmyouji to be pure magic damage and maybe some party buffs.
A geomancer job would also be nice, and I'd be ok with them being a support/debuff class.
Geomancer as a caster dps would be my first choice too, to finally get to use Flood, Tornado and Quake. But I feel like that alone isn't a solid enough case, and Yoshi P has mentioned in the past about wanting an eastern themed caster.
So I think a Mystic/Oracle/Onmyouji is far more likely and as long as it gets water spells thrown in there somehow I'm content with that.
Geo could absolutely fit in the caster archetype space we have, and I've seen some decent job concept ideas for itn but they just don't seem to be going in that direction. A large part is that we've never had a job that was already present in the game before beyond sparse one liner mentions, like "the dancers of thavnair".
Geomancer is already so rich in lore, between the four lords questline, Hien's ancestor, and involvement in the AST job quests. So I'm not holding out any hope.
Onmyouji on the other hand, just a couple of very brief, very hidden off the cuff remarks.
In Blade and Soul I played Warlock which kinda was a bit like a '' Onmyouji caster '', you basically threw magic Talismans and summoned demons.
One of my favorite classes in any MMO.

Give me a class where I dual wield a sword and a gun.
Voted Beastmaster. There's not a lot of classes that could potentially pull my focus away from Machinist but that could. I play Beastmaster Hunter on WoW, have for 16+ years. But my hunter characters have generally also been engineers (especially with my current main over there, where it's a big part of his backstory). So, the ranged gadgets style of Machinist was a perfect fit for me. But having a cool combat pet (aside from the big yellow bird) is something I do miss on FFXIV, sometimes.

What is so appealing about a Time Mage?
Haste and Slow are significantly, enormously powerful in most FF games. Absolutely do not work here.
So its inclusion as a Job has never made sense.
Can you imagine something that could change your GCDs against your will, or shorten your Ability cooldowns? It would utterly ruin the game.
Slow from Arm's Length is great on huge pulls. Doesn't work on most bosses.
I'd be saying something different about Time Mage if crowd control was a big deal in this game's boss fights or raids, but it's not. Stuff like Slow and Sleep, two of the powerhouse spells of the series, basically suck in FFXIV.
The same goes for pet classes / Summoner. Despite the recent revamp, SMN falls way short of what it has been in other FF games, like X, XI, VII-R. This game doesn't do pet Jobs at all, so discount BST and PUP right off the bat. SMN is sort of just a pantomime of itself and it took them 8 years to get it this close to authentic.
I can still dream for PUP.
But yeah. Time Mage is AST. We had Time Dilation and could have it back, not to extend Cards/Divination but our Regens/Horoscope. We're also the "time based healer" with A. Helios/Benefic, Celestial Opposition and Collective Unconciousness for heals over time and Earthly Star, the afformentioned Horoscope, Macrocosmos and Exaltation for delayed healing.
I don't see what they could bring with Time Mage that would make it unique enough from AST at all.
I didn't realize there were so many jobs in ff holy cow. Will all of these eventually make it into the game?
Arithmetician.
I want to see that glorious trainwreck as they try to fit that kind of job into this game.
I'm scared to ask/hope for beastmaster after blue mage but if I weren't, that would get my vote.

Pretty much none of them will, and some of those in the poll aren't even Jobs, just classes the OP made up based off *hand gestures* saw Wakka do it.
Even when a "classic" Job makes it in, it often has nothing to do with whatever it was before. See also Sage, original Summoner, Dark Knight. Arguably Blue Mage. Black Mage also barely resembles what it is in other games. The list goes on.
I selected Morpher, because I would like a shapeshifting job. That is one fantasy that isn't really captured all that well in this game. (Gear could be what determines the monster you transform so it could keep getting new forms, but play the same)
It wasn't on the list or anything, but I would like a light element mage dps. We are the WoL, but the only light aspected jobs are in the tank and healer roles. Perhaps something like eastern themed exorcist. Lore wise it could be an order founded during the war of the magi to fight against the voidsent.
Isn't ninja kind of the assassin already?
Spellblade is kinda already there in RDM. But theyre not the true spellblade.
You’re really hyper-fixating on Blitzballer, huh. XD
I included it because I usually get one-or-two-maybe-three people who say they want it in the comments in past polls and thought it would be a fun addition. >w>
It’s not like we don’t already have a job based solely off of characters and not a pre-establish job, GNB being based off of Squall and Seifer from VIII. And it’s not like a Blitzballer-based job would be left wanting for ideas between Wakka, Tidus, Jecht, and all the trick shots and tackles in the actual mini-game.
With the intro of dynamis, I could see a psychic.... not sure how it would work, but seems on brand.
The GEO job fantasy generally would have been pretty cool prior to the Summoner rework.
As we have it now, though, SMN already hits on two of the three GEO elements, and does it with rock-magic. It is a "Gemomancer."
I guess RPR is kind of a morpher ala Vincent.
I too would like a light mage DPS. I think there may be space for a reflector/mirror job, perhaps with some sort of illusion. And I think anything resembling that archetype would necessarily want to be not a healer to help differentiate itself from AST/SGE.
Yeah after GNB I think it is foolish for anyone to be dismissing poster child job archetypes from FF titles. BLZ has plenty to draw from between Tidus, Wakka, Jecht, and the blitzball mini-game. And this is also why I expect some sort of Judge job from XII/Tactics may be high on the devs' priority list.
I'm new here from WoW, but I already know what class I'm going to miss the most from that game - druid. I loved my druid so much.
I don't really consider RPR a morpher. You still maintain your base form. When you think shapeshifting you think full body transformation (kind of like WoW's druid) as your main method of battle, not a temporary burst window that doesn't really change your appearance all that much. That is why I said that fantasy isn't captured all that well in this game instead of it not existing. (Even Vincent had full body transformation, RPR doesn't. They just gain a cloak a claw and a glowy red aura).
An Illusionary mage would be a pretty cool concept for a light mage. Makes me kind of nostalgic towards my Mesmer from my Guild Wars days.
I know I'm likely in the minority, but I really want more limited jobs to be added (with some improvements to the limited job system) because I think blue mage is lonely there, and because I think it has potential. as such I'm hoping they add in beastmaster and/or puppetmaster this expac. I'm also betting to see a tank and a caster next expac, and I'm rooting for a green mage to be the caster by taking on some of the DoT mage aspects of old smn and making them its own.
I would love to see Beastmaster but not as a limited job.
Also a ranger-type job (another competitor for Scouting gear!)
ROFL! The hell is a time mage gonna do? What’s their main hand? Can they even muster a catalogue of skills with such a shallow concept? Might as well bring in Swordswinger

Umm... well, AST is basically time mage and it sure seems to be doing fine with the concept. I do think it\s valid to ask why we would need a time mage DPS when we already have a time mage healer, but it's pretty easy to see how time mage could be a class in FF14 since, you know, it essentially already exists in FF14.
Merchant.
Kind of a more interesting Chemist. Melee-healer with a mace or hammer. Fun and quirky job to take a break from the seriousness of the others. Make it so the job gauge is gil-based, but not your actual money; maybe you beat the money out of your enemy. Money is used for stuff like ordering an airstrike or "hiring" a party member to be your bodyguard, boosting their defence and attack as long as you stay close. Petty Cash (money) is your first job gauge, while the second is "Mix", where you "buy" or "find" various items through your actions and you can mix them for different results. Heals by throwing potions and other things at your allies.
I'm not personally interested in a merchant class but if one was ever added, they should have the ability to sell items in their bazaar. For those who don't know, a bazaar is a feature in ffxi where a player can set up a mini-shop anywhere and other people can buy directly from it. An icon of a brown sack will show up next to the player's name when their bazaar is open. Or maybe even take it a step further and give us a mini market stall or a carpet with wares on it lol
If I'm remembering this correctly, people could set up messages in their bazaar which I thought was nice.
Keyblade Master class when?
