Honestly you shouldn't trust the healer split.

1) They attempted it with tanks and it has largely failed. They said in Shadowbringers early media they wanted dedicated Tank / Off Tank roles and that hasn't materialized at all.

2) They're not doubling down on the shield / regen dichotomy. Scholars have the same amount of regens as they do shields. Whm's have a beefy shield that's getting an additional charge in Divine Benision. ASTs have the biggest possible shield pre-pull right now. The shown skills for Sage had 4 regens and 2 shields.

Exactly, it was a bad idea so they abolished it. They saw it was better that players bring whatever combination of tanks they enjoy, instead of "sorry, we need a MT and your class is an OT". Now for some reason they're repeating that old mistake with healers. If the party has a Sage, they want SCH to be locked out. If the party has an AST, they want WHM to be locked out. And for what? They haven't even created a distinctive pure/shield playstyle. "Barrier" is just a regular pure healer with a handful of shields. It makes no sense.

I can't say for certain that not a single member of the dev team plays healers beyond the skill level of a nervous Cure spamming sprout. But I can say that the way Yoshida talks about how healers play in live letters is the same way Cure spammers on the forums/Reddit talk about oGCD-healers "not healing": because they don't understand how playing a healer actually works.

For me it was only for adlo and embrace, Physic & embrace. For the other skills that management the fairy actions i used the pet hot bar switch they had. to help mange them. I never really macro alot of the skills for it.

I don't remember all my macros (other account) but i distinctly recall macroing a lot of "embrace the tank".

People say they want micromanaging but then use macros to auto target fair heals. I hated it.

Im not going to lie that it had it issues back then and there was a lot of problems. but for me i didn't really mind micro management of the system. and with the storm blood alot of QOL has happened. but doing that imo took some things out that made it stick out more.

Is this guy for real or was the healer gameplay actually that bad? Using a macro to achieve optimal gameplay? How can anyone want that type of playstyle?

Macro'ing embrace wasn't awful, at least for me personally, it gave a sense of taking more control over the pet AI even if it wasn't the most "graceful" way to implement that game feel. I always had my pet commands bound to my controller crossbar so when they made a big to do in SB of saying that pet actions were now player actions I was disappointed because it meant I couldn't use the pet actions as oGCDs anymore (nor could I pilot Eos anymore during moments where the enemy CC'd me or I was otherwise indisposed by firing embraces manually due to having that bound on my controller crossbar)

Those are just some of things I know that I refer to when i say that I feel like they took the tactical healer job fantasy away from SCH over the expansions and SCH just felt clunkier and clunkier as a result and more and more of a vibe of "losing control" over certain aspects of the job began to sink in over those expansions.

I lowkey wonder if the reason that not-Peloton wasn't given to Selene to give her a reason to still exist, outside glamour, is because "it's too inconvenient/hard to switch between fairies" (even when they're now instant cast). I mean, Selene was always the support/offensive fairy and Eos the mini WHM no? so it just....made sense? or am I missing something

summoners switch summons aruond in their rotation, idk why they couldnt have given us a skill that swapped the fairy AND also did a heal or some buff to compensate for the gcd/weave slot.

I... don't see what's wrong with that? Macros are a mainstay in other MMOs and an outright staple in WoW. The reason macros aren't generally used in FFXIV is because their implementation is as horrific as the netcode is. If macros actually worked the way they should, the vast majority of jobs would use them. GNB and DRK got abilities reworked in Endwalker to what they would be if macros worked properly.

The reason macros are basically unusable in FFXIV is because they have no ability queuing, which is only a problem if the action you're trying to perform can't be done during another action. Macroing the fairy didn't have that issue.

what IS there to double down on for shb scholar? all they did was take away dps buttons and fairy actions. the only thing they actually gave to sch in 5.0 was the regen in sacred soil and fey blessing/consolation (seraph is literally just rouse but flashier lmao)

It seems to me they simply decided not to go along with that idea and want us to embrace the new healer design philosophy introduced in ShB.

Honestly, I'm fine with it. It's okay for developers to disagree with the directions players want to take. Maybe most of suggestions and ideas coming from this forum are against their design philosophy.

Hopefully such design choice will turn out well.

This sounds good on paper, but then you have to realize that if you fly in the face of your community too long, regardless of whether it's the right choice or not, it's going to be the wrong one. With 6 years of no new healer, the butchering of existing ones, and no end in sight to the slaughter? Now there's nothing SE can do to slake the healing community. They've taken stab after stab after stab that any improvements will now be met with, I'd say well-deserved, skepticism and even passive-aggression.

This is not complaints and a disagreements over a singular patch. This has been brewing for multiple expansions only for it to culminate in a cute twist on "You think you know what you want, but you don't." This will not turn out well. This is a guarantee. Because it has not turned out well for years and there's no reason for that to do a 180 for literally quite no reason. Fire has not become wet in the past eternity and I have no reason to believe that will change tomorrow.

We are witnessing the final breaths of the healing class. I'm done with this boring corpse, I'm gonna go play MNK. The LL for them looked fun. I'll let the green beans handle the healing and, if the queues get too bad, I'll just use trusts.

You know, in case you guys forgot we could be replaced by legal bots.

Macroing is legit botting. Botting to obtain optimal gameplay shouldn't be allowed within the game. How don't you see it is a problem?

The reason why the macros in FFXIV don't have the ability to queue is so that people won't use them to play the game instead of them. DPS could legit encode their whole rotation on 1-2 macro buttons and be performing optimally regardless of actual skills if macros could be used for them. Same for healers and tanks. If you are using macro you can weave only 1 oGCD without clipping and cast an ability once every 3s, real players can weave 2oGCDs and cast more frequently, pet actions were outside of GCD, and botting with macro obviously worked extremely well there. Now I get why all of the fairy actions became oGCD commands.

Well, I said I'm okay with this because I genuinely believe someday they will change their healer design philosophy, be it by adding more dps options or changing the way we heal.

Though i don't like the current state of healers, I do see their effort on adding something more to healers in LL(except SCH, poor SCH).

They said they are building it on 5.0, which means EW is going to be the first expansion we are going to see how they extend their healer design philosophy

Is it going to fail as you said it would? ? Maybe, though I won't say for sure. Maybe they will someday behave like WoW developers, maybe someday they will make amends. But right now if what they say they are building on 5.0 iteration of healer is true, I'm willing to keep my hopes up.

Sadly, after so long, we can no longer have any faith in "Maybe's" or "Hope". I can hope that the ground one day turns to gold, but you'd know better, yes? You'd call me silly and damn rightfully so. This is quickly approaching that level of morbid consistency.


As for the tangent with the Trusts: You can replace DPS and Tanks with the Scions, but we both can't sit here and pretend like they're any good at it. I've wiped when I healed my Trusts because the DPS' are laughably incompetent (I'm going to sit outside the hit zone and do literally nothing the entire time) and the Tank ones have done outright bizarre behaviors with enough reliability that I'd honestly save myself the pain and teach a green bean how to tank with how much less painful that'd be. The healer, however? Never messes up. Never skips a beat. Though, to be fair, how can you mess up 3 buttons?

Admittedly anecdotal on that last bit, but the experience has left me no less embittered as this was seen as a favorable alternative to just... making the needed jobs more enticing to try, whether it be healer OR tank. Tanks being an archetype that seem to be noticing similar undesirable changes that healers have been undergoing.

As a newer player this is all rather disheartening. Healer has always been my preferred role. Currently I'm leveling my way through heavensward and I've done a lot of lvl 50 Extreme Trials. Ifrit and Ramuh require a fair bit of healing, the later mostly because all of my runs have contained people new to the fight. These fights have been made much easier through over gearing.

Everything I've heard indicates the state of healer won't be changing much. I've done low level dungeons with dark knights and warriors without casting a single heal. Level 50 dungeons aren't much better if people know the mechanics. I don't think it's unfair to ask if I'm going to be dpsing the majority of the time I'm going to need a bit more then just a small handful of abilities to use.

The crazy part is, because I have to do MSQ, I'm given hundred's of hours to learn this. As I level, I'm given more healing cool downs to use inbetween my two main heals while I learn a grand total of no new dps abilities.

As it stands I'd rather just queue as dps, queuing only as healer for fights with a lot of damage intake. This duality in gameplay and disparity in content hasn't made for a good experience D:

It does bother me how many people seem to think there is absolutely no variant between literally a singular button and having to play Green DPS like a piano. Though extremely rare in my experience, I still can't understand those who would resist maybe a few extra buttons to compensate for the twenty I don't use.

You continue to needle on the Trust tangent because you have nothing else. You're being snarky and hyperfocusing on that because you know any deviation from that is going to require an actual response, whether you can trump it or not. You're arguing in bad faith, as you only seek to "Win", not discuss and tackle the problems that are objectively present. There has been statistical dissatisfaction for healer changes, especially AST, back in the survey done in SB. Will that be dismissed as "Well, only a minority did that test?"

The biggest issue is I can't even try to handle your own stance because all you've done is mock and focus on an irrelevant complaint. One that I fully admitted was irrelevant and am even willing to say should not have been written, as I'm still going off the bitterness of what we've been dealing with as not only players, but paying customers.
