I wouldn't say 'most' people. Some people maybe, but IMO that's a big leap for people to take that line and assume it means they're getting new jobs. Especially since she already GOT her big job change going to red mage in the first place.

I know a lot of people have already predicted it but i think Sharlayan will almost assuredly be the big city and in the trailer. This is the end of the Hydalyn/Zodiark storyline and it would not feel the conclusion without going there. I also think we will get the final job reveal. I am also hoping that the rest of the clouds over Islabard are removed showing a complete map of the 3 continents, and that we at least get 2 more zones there. Also i really want them to show off more hairstyles for Viera. I heard some people suggest Nerva might be in it and going back and looking at the first trailer, it showed an airship in the capitol going down in flames as if there was a big conflict there, perhaps it was an effort by him and his forces to take down the big tower enslaving the citizens and it was shot down by a defense mechanisms. also maybe we actually see Hydalyn or Zodairk.
If we do get Sharlayan(which does feel most likely) I imagine that will be the bulk of the remaining zones. The motherland was originally made of three main islands before the Isle of Val did it's vanishing act. Given how big Val turned out to be, I won't be surprised if they can fit three zones and a city on the remaining one.
As for Ilsabard proper, the reason I don't think we'll get many zones there is that the way they've used Terncliff, Werlyt and Bozja in post ShB makes me think that for the time being they'll want to leave Ilsabard and southern Othard for that purpose. Having that massive landmass that we'll gave access to from all four sides post EW gives them a lot of freedom to dip into for areas to feature as they did in Sorrow of Werlyt and save the queen. And it still doesn't stop them from picking out a chunk of it to feature in future expansions is they don't have workable ideas for the New World or Meracydia ready to go.
That said I do hope they still remove the clouds if only to tease potential future ideas.
I will admit a huge bias in that I want lots of Sharlayan content and certainly won't be upset if we get more Ilsabard than Sharlayan but the above rambling just feels like the direction the wind is blowing to me.
Sharlayan will likely include the city itself and the island region zone, Same with Raz-a-Han and its region and Mephina being the moon zone, and of course Garlemald and its surrounding mountainous region. That leaves 2 other regions, considering the moon has already been announced I dont think thats the final zone and likely there will be another region at least in Islabard. The moon could be the final zone but twice the last zone has been a hidden reveal like Azys Lla and the Tempest. If theres not another ??? zone then likely theres going to be 2 other regions in Islabard outside Garlemald itself.
We will see. The straight draw angle of the way Zenos's pulled his mystery weapon out of the ground and the sound effect when he pulled seemed more like a straight bladed weapon than a scythe. A scythe would also have been embedded into the ground on a curve and the pole would have been visible. They might have just recycled some animations but the way he pulled that thing out of ground was more in line with a sword then anything else.
Agreed - the whole "the new weapon is going to be a scythe and Zenos is going to use it" theory doesn't add up with the animation in that scene at all.
Looking for a new weapon might mean he's taking on the new playable job, but there's an equal chance he's moving up to a unique job regardless of what the players are getting.
this picture is off of reddit but... i'm 90% sure youre right. I looked at the scene in EW where we see the supposed scythe and it literally doesn't look like a scythe at all.

Also! I just drew up what I've been thinking this entire time:

I could be wrong, entirely. But it looks like that part of the "scythe" people are seeing is actually just... part of the structure in the back of his chair.
That isn't the only thing I noticed now that you highlighted it. Zenos's weapon has a curved, flared handle indicating it is to be gripped near the end. That is not the handle of a polearm, they are gripped in the center. That kind of handle is typical of scimitars:
It is also the kind of handle found on early muskets and Garlean gunblades:
Yeah, it fits with the animation and sound effect. It is about the right height. Handle looks pretty close to what we see leaning on the chair. Fandaniel would not have expected it since Zenos switched from the gunblade to the katana in Stormblood. And it would be appropriate for the de facto ruler of Garlemald to wield a Garlean weapon. So it fits the dialog.
Everything in that picture is some varying shade of orange/black, because of the fire. Zenos’ hair also matches the color you pointed out.
What’s throwing people off and leading them to believe it’s a weapon and not part of the chair is that the chair is otherwise symmetrical except for that part of it.

Zenos' hair is the first color, the chair is the second and the mistaken scythe is the 3rd. Allowing for pixel variations (its a screenshot of a compressed video, of course there's going to be pixel variations) the two colors that more closely match are straight-up orange, whereas Zenos' hair is a true yellow.
It looks the same to me zoomed out but I’ll take your word for it since you provided the zoomed in color swatch. Thanks for that!
Still, I don’t think it’s part of the structure. It doesn’t really make much sense to have the piece jutting out on one side only when the rest of the chair is otherwise symmetrical. Even if it ends up being a weird design choice, I don’t blame people for thinking that it’s a weapon.
What weapon is the question- I’d personally be pretty disappointed if he just picks up a gunblade again, after making such a show out of him picking out a new weapon. It doesn’t have to be the new melee class (I’m not crazy about scythes, it just feels the most fitting imo) but if they’re going to bother making it some big reveal, at least make it interesting. He has no love for Garlemand or garlean arts- him using a garlean weapon to try to fell the WoL wouldn’t really have significance to him personally. Sure he’s the ruler, technically. But in the trailer and the art kinda looks like he’s the ruler of nothing.
It definitely to me at least looks to be a strange design choice.
Side note: I looked a bit harder and the part that people think is the scythe blade isn't where it would be if it were separate from the chair.
https://media.discordapp.net/attachm...analysis_5.png
There's a weird cut off if it were a scythe blade. If it were the scythe blade and just behind the chair "wings" at a tilted angle, the entire blade would be visible. and if it were in front of the chair wings (on the same "layer" as Zenos, so to say), then the "blade" would cut off earlier.
Why'd they highlight one of the chair arms? That whole thing isn't a weapon, the majority of that is one of the arms of his chair, and duplicated on the other side.
Anyway, I think it's not propped up against the chair with the blade at the top. I bet that's the hilt/bottom of the weapon, and he'll stand up or something and pull the blade up from where his feet would be.
I believe they were emphasizing that the part everyone thinks is the weapon is actually just a part of the arm chair, and that it's easier to see when you isolate the full "wing".
In my other posts though, I chose to just emphasize the part that everyone thinks is the weapon.
Garlemald is in the same position Doma and Ala Migho were in Stormblood. War-torn, devastated land occupied by Zenos's army with Zenos camped out in the royal palace with a primal he intends to merge with. We got one class based out of Doma, Samurai, and one based out Ala Migho, Red Mage. And since we want to talk about color schemes let me point out that Yoshida's shirt he wore on the stage has a very interesting color scheme of red, black, white, gold and orange:
You know where we have seen that color scheme before?
It depends. For example, if he picked up his father's gunblade:
he wouldn't have had time to test it since the incident in the throne room and it is different from the one Zenos used previously. And then there is Fandaniel's dialog which indicates it is a weapon he doubted Zenos would have selected and he knows Zenos dumped the gunblade in favor of a katana.
And the Final Fantasy series does like giving it's main villains longswords with red blades; Ardyn Izunia being the most recent example.
I doubt its varis's gunblade since we know what one end of the new weapon looks like and it does not look like either side of varis's gunblade (not to mention that he would have most likely already used that type of gunblade before meaning he would have tested it before)
I just keep my expectations in neutral on a lot of this. Don't try to guess, just wait and see what they announce and get excited over it at the time rather than potentially being disappointed by what it isn't.
(That said, I'm not really enthusiastic about the scythe idea in any case, whether for Zenos or the player. But we'll see.)
But we already have gunblade, so the RDM and SAM stuff doesn’t really correlate here.
I’ll give you (I think you’re the one that mentioned it) that the height and sound are not really in line with a big scythe. Makes me wonder if they just used a generic blade against concrete sound or if it really will be a sword of some sort. I still have my money on scythe but it’s possible he picked up a claymore or something.
We'll see. Either way, it doesn't change the fact what we see of the weapon on the chair and the animation of that scene at the end of 5.5 don't line up with a scythe. Nor does the scythe theory easily square up with Yoshida's other recent shirt hints:
By the way, don't we a character in the game that gave us a big speech about lies, deceit, deception, creeping mendacity, etc...?
Classes that use swords: Paladin, Dark Knight, Samurai, Red Mage
Classes that use staffs: White Mage, Black Mage
Classes that use books: Scholar, Summoner
Classes that use scythes: Botanist
And the point is we got 2 martial classes out of 3 lands Zenos has ruled so far; I wouldn't bet against them from going 3 for 3.
I doubt we're getting another gunblade job even if the other new job is Garlean in origin, but people could be jumping the gun on the scythe theories. Guess we'll see tomorrow.
Considering we where teased with RDM by Alisae pulling a sword out of a book then using gladiator animations, there's always the possibility of him getting a scythe but them not having appropriate animations for it? I know it's a bit of a stretch but it has technically happened before.
I feel like people are focusing too much on the way he pulled the weapon out too much when realistically a game dev would just reuse animations instead of making a new one. Specially when you're already obscuring what the weapon is.
That trailer was hyyyyype, I love how FFXIV keeps exciting me expansion after expansion I've never felt like the game was going downhill like with every other MMO.
Y'sthola too: https://media.tenor.com/images/773ab...b8ba/tenor.png
Congratulations on everyone who correctly predicted Reaper and Old Sharalyan in the trailer. :D (Hence why I don't even try to predict things anymore, they never turn out how I think :P).
