I would disagree. This game's character creator is very, very simplistic in its design. I have never heard of anyone having trouble with the character creation screen until this thread, and I've been playing since ARR open beta. lol

-- Im not gonna make a claim that you are trying to gain the System, but you already used your first-do. By definition, you are looking for a Re-do.
-- The Fantasia Editor is the same as the Character Creator. If you had no issues there, I fail to understand how you had issues here. Also, you claim to have done this before.
-- Are you sure you read it correctly? It should have given you a confirmation message that you are about to Finalize your use of the Fantasia.
-- Again, you want SE to fix YOUR error. You insist that somebody else pay for your mistake and say "Its no loss on them to just give me another one" Which combined with your claim that its Disingenuous that they DONT fix your Mistake, just breaths entitlement. And it is rather messed up of you to think so.
-- The appearance button is literally right there on the menu. My advice for ANY game you play, is to explore EVERY option on the menu before you click a Next, Proceed, checkmark, or X button again.
-- Yes...take responsibility that you made a Mistake. They happen. The problem with your posts is that you wont take responsibility for your mistake and say that SE needs to give you another Freebie for your own mistake. And claiming that them not doing so is bad and saying you wont support them, claiming they wont do so because of Revenue..
You might not realize it, but you are literally blaming somebody else for your mistake, and then telling them to fix it.
Also worked in retail, also had this customer. I think every retail store comes with this person, not sure... have to look in to that.
Also completely agree with the sentiment here. This strikes me as nothing more than "I screwed up, confirmed the screw up, and now I'm complaining about the screw up. And if you don't fix it, I'm never shopping here again."
Honestly... please don't.
This is exhausting. :(
"Are you sure you read it correctly?" <-- Yes. It said that my race selection affects my hair options. That was the one and final dialog box, with a Proceed button on it.
"Yes...take responsibility that you made a Mistake." <-- I made several, but that's normal because people are going to approach this editor differently. Making a mistake is not something to feel bad about. Learn and grow. It feels like your intention is to place blame.
Its upsetting to think that this problem can happen to people without there being any support for them. Especially so if you consider they spent money on it. My disagreement with Square-Enix's response was fair. You are free to disagree on that, but remember I am still free to disagree with them.
Buyer beware.
Anymore, I don't think there is anything I can say that will salvage this thread...
I originally posted into Tech Support. I wasn't looking to start a movement or gather an army of supporters. I never posted into General Discussion of all places. It was moved by a mod.
What I got for all my effort is a full and proper labeling by the community. I'm a KAREN now, so everyone is clear on this. As of 5 pages ago. Its toxic.
I never asked to infringe on anyone. I encountered a problem, disagreed with their decision not to support me, and followed the instructions by coming here to write about it. Nobody from support came to read. Nobody from the mod team came to stop the nasty labeling.
People may have similar problems in the future, but tuff luck. I'm out. You can all cheer after the door.
I found a comment someone made amusing, but that was the extent of it. Even so, others pointed out that it wasn't really the system that was at fault, but that it was your own error. You have acknowledged this yourself. They also attempted to correct you on what you feel SE owes you or needs to fix, when in reality they aren't obligated to do either and they honestly shouldn't. There is nothing to fix with the character creator other than perhaps adding more options. This isn't some sort of shady scheme. You made a mistake. It happens. We are all human and make mistakes of our own. Just take the loss like a champ and do it right next time and you'll be golden. Sadly, you don't appear willing to fully accept the reality of your situation, so I'm not sure how much help this post will be. If you came here expecting support for your own mistake and allegations of some sort of scheme or system flaw...well, you assumed wrong. The system is flawed in ways, but not in this fashion. Not for most people at least, since you are the first person I have ever met to have these sort of issues.
You really dropping something you enjoy spending time for petty reason like that?
Mistakes suck and hurt but you learn from them.
There did not used to be a fantasia reward from this quest when I started the game and instead the reward came from being subscribed for a certain amount of time. I was extremely careful before using it because I was aware one wrong click could waste it. I rehearsed my changes on the character creation screen first.
If I had wasted it, I'm not normally someone who buys off the shop but eventually I would have saved up enough if I really wanted it. We should be thankful we even have the freedom to change our appearance at all. We didn't used to.
If it's such a problem to buy it and your character is still relatively new, you could just make a new character and skip cut scenes up to where you were.
Yes, this is exhausting. Its exhausting to see that you will continue to double down that you Made a Mistake, and still turn around and tell SE they need to compensate your Mistake. Its wrong of you to think they should, its wrong of you to call this a scheme, and you are wrong to think you are gonna get support on the concept that SE not giving you a 2nd Freebie is grounds to stop supporting them.
You calling this community Toxic because it didn't agree with you just shows you are unreasonable. Nobody infringed on you, you are free to voice your opinion, just like everybody else. Those opinions might support you, they might be against you.
All of that said, with all my heart, I think its silly, and I would be very sad to see you leave this game, all because of your own mistake, and for being upset that somebody else wont take responsibility for it.
Please, either let it go and continue to enjoy the game...or just pay the $7 if you really want to change that one option on your Player character Avatar.
Best of Luck
Because you started it with a click bait title to mislead people. Of course it was going to go downhill.
There is no deceptive reward scheme. The reward is to get a Fantasia when you complete the final quest of ARR. You got that reward. That you failed to use the character customization UI correctly and didn't get the result you wanted is your error.
If you had said that the character customization UI needs improvement, you would have gotten far more constructive responses and likely some agreement (I think it could use a few tweaks itself).
Lesson: don't try to use click bait tiles to manipulate people into sympathy. It doesn't work.
I'd be less generous to OP and say they're full of it. They botched it and are now raging at SE for their own mistake.
Seeing as I myself have a Fantasia active I decided to have a look.. I have also used one before like 7 or so months ago after finishing ARR and I recall it not being that complicated at all..

It's perfectly fine that you made a mistake, OP. It happens to all of us, we're human. But at least acknowledge it rather than rage at SE for an error on your part. Especially considering this wasn't even a Fantasia you had to pay for, accept that you messed up and move on.
I think only one person called you a Karen. Please don't assume everyone who disagrees with your stance automatically thinks you're a Karen. I personally dislike that term and never use it.
I know someone who accidentally bought the wrong dye from the Mog Station and didn't realise it until after they used it. That mistake cost them money and SE wouldn't help because they had already used one of the bottles (they bought a package with multiple). This was years ago and they're still playing. It never occurred to them to quit the game. They were actually just annoyed at themselves for having a brain fart while reading the colour name. Now they laugh at it.
OP it's not the end of the world that you misread something and then misused an item. Things like this happen. Humans are imperfect creatures and we all make mistakes. You're lucky yours didn't cost you any money, and it wasn't a high value or rare item either. Not much loss at the end of the day. The bigger loss would be you quitting a game you enjoy over being disappointed that SE won't correct your mistake for you.
The mistake isn't irreversible either. It's not as if you're stuck with that tail forever because you misused one fantasia. Your character and their progression will not suffer because of a fantasia. It's not something irreversible like using a job boost to boost the wrong class, thus removing the lvling experience of a class you may have wanted to lvl up normally. Your issue is entirely cosmetic and in this game no cosmetic changes are forever. You can change them when you wish and as often as you like.
It sucks that SE won't help you, but it really could have been much worse. Other people paid a lot of money before realising their mistake. You're fortunate that you learned your lesson for free.
Also worth noting.. you can press the X on the bottom left and cancel out. It does not rob you of your Fantasia use and you can go back in and re-edit any time until you actually confirm your changes.. and thus use the Fantasia as it's intended to be used.
I bought a sex locked outfit from the mogstation for $18. I can't even wear it I just keep it in my retainers.
Sorry I still stand by comment that you had a boomer moment that resulted in a Karen moment. It happens at times no one is perfect, but personally think you should have just laughed off your mistake and left it at that. Generally think it is telling to the type of person someone is in moments like this, nothing wrong with making mistakes it becomes a problem when you try and get others to cover for said mistake and make a scene over it, which your original post did.
Maybe next time write a strongly worded email. :P
Also not to mention the 'omg nobody agrees with me, lemme just edit my first post and be done with it'-behavior kinda reminds me of certain thread that surfaces some time recently in General Discussion, too... Is this a mere coincidence or... well who knows ;)
OP even change the name as well? What for?
See honestly, I feel for the guy that he made a Mistake.
But I lose all compassion when he wants to get mad at the company and say they should give him another one, and when they dont, make all these claims that SE doesn't really want to see me rewarded after all, Say that he's Offended, say he will no longer do any new Business with the Company, and call this a Deceptive reward scheme
All of that, because of his own mistake. And because he couldn't ask them to give him another one for HIS OWN MISTAKE.
And then he gets upset when people dont agree with him and runs away probably trying to delete the thread...found out he couldn't so he just changes the 1st post.
I agree. If they had said "I did a thing. This sucks!" and left it mostly at that I might have been way more sympathetic. Their attitude left a LOT to be desired, and that's putting it mildly. I think they were looking for an echo chamber more than anything. What they got was anything but.
No, you called it a "deceptive reward scheme." You don't get to pull up all victimized when you come in spitting venom like that. Here's a tip when you want to get actual help from support staff: don't be a jerk. The person you're talking to didn't wrong you. The person you're talking to may, in fact, be able to help solve your problem. But the person you're talking to doesn't have to solve anything if you don't give them a reason to. Pulling up all haughty about 30 years of customer loyalty and "deceptive" practices isn't going to win you any sympathy from support staff. You stopped just short of "do you know who I am" and let me tell you, everyone reading this can hear it anyway. You did not approach this as a problem you wanted an actual solution to. You approached this as "you owe me. You are beneath me. And you will do as I say."
It didn't work.
Good.
Due to strange popular demand, I restored the original post.
I'm going to make one more "final" post since I had to come back for this.
Listen, I had strong self-interest in finding a way to edit my appearance. I wanted to succeed. I tried. I really did. Though I did not rush off to YouTube or Google, should that have really been the expectation? PlayStation users can't do that. I tried my best to edit my appearance, and ended up thinking it was on the "next" screen. In this instance, at this moment, I lacked the perception and intuition necessary that 99.999% of the population seems to have. Is it my fault that I'm not able to understand it? Can I be blamed and held accountable for my inability to figure it out?
Someone said its like dropping a drink when someone hands ones to you and then demanding they give you another. NO! This analogy is wrong. I was _unable_ to hold the drink. I didn't drop it. The drink just fell.
And whether this new analogy is right or wrong, this is the reason why I got so upset. I was unable to understand how to edit my character, and when I asked in-game support for help and a new Fantasia, they looked at me and saw an idiot rather than me for what I was. If I'm so stupid that I can't figure out how to edit my appearance then I should pay them for my stupidity. That is how it felt. Paying someone compensation for being stupid would only prove that I am stupid. True or not, do I really need that reinforcement?
I feel bad for every handicapped person who ever got told they have to pay up for their unfortunate inability.
I don't enjoy coming on here and publicly telling everyone that I'm defective. In that moment there was nothing more I could do about it. I tried. I absolutely tried my best to understand it. I didn't want to click that checkmark button, but I felt I had no other choice. It was my last option.
Tbh man it would have been best for you to just let the thread die.
Mistakes happen and that is life as they say live and learn.
Short version? Yes, to both of those things if you aren't handicapped in some way. That doesn't make you broken or defective. That just makes you human. If you legit have some sort of handicap, then that is unfortunate. I sympathize. However, your attitude left much to be desired. You were given a free item. That chance wasn't used to the full extent of what you wanted. SE is NOT obligated to give you another for free no matter how much you decided to kick and scream and blame the system for your own mistake. Does it suck? Sure! I understand very well having not been satisfied with my efforts via Fantasia on more than one occasion, resulting in my purchasing of another. But not once did I think that SE owed me anything, because they don't.
To edit my appearance, I tried clicking on my character picture. That didn't work.
Nothing else I saw were things I wanted to edit, so I didn't randomly click things.
Then it sounds like you simply failed to see something that was there, judging from this screenshot.
Appearance is listed. You wanted to edit your appearance. If you overlooked it, that's user error and not a mistake on SE's end.
And maybe if you had phrased your initial post differently, you would have had nothing but sympathy given your way. Or possibly even a kind soul deciding to gift one you to out of the kindness of their own heart.
But instead you said the blame was solely on SE's side and claimed that the reward was deceptive. Then proceeded to be argumentative towards any who posted.
The problem is most likely that what you would need is way too abusable by players. Player changes his character with a fantasia exactly how he wants it. Then goes to support and says they hit complete "too soon." Gets the replacement. Doesn't use it for ages.
Some places give people a one time mess up. Others don't. And they aren't required to do so.
I would have clicked on everything that wasn't the checkmark or the X button even if I was 100% sure it didn't have what I needed in it. Just to be sure I wasn't being stupid. And if I had someone else in my house, I'd have called them over and gone, "I'm trying to change my tail's appearance. I can't find where to go. Can you see what I'm missing?"
I'm sorry for my super aggression.
I'd have been [i]ultra[/i sympathetic and I'd probably have been this person. I did the same thing for my free fantasia - tried to change my appearance, didn't (because I neglected to look to the right of my screen, I'm massive dumb), logged in because I thought maybe it would lead me into a separate screen? I realized what I'd done wrong, paid for another fantasia, and started clicking at things like a madman till I got where I wanted. It's super intuitive, just gotta pay attention.
If he'd been way more open about his own mistake, I'd have been the first to respond and ask if I could gift one to him - it happened to me and it sucks.
?...What demand? But whatever, if this means you haven't given up on FFXIV over this, I would be happy to hear that.
Actually Playstation Users can, there is an internet browser you can open, and at the same time while playing FFXIV. (The BROWSER, not the Youtube app just to be clear)
Should it be expected?...maybe not, but its something you could have looked at. Trying all your options. If you also had a computer or a Smartphone with internet access you could have done that too. Just naming options.
Im gonna call the Analogy wrong cause it doesn't really make sense, but if I understand it correctly...its still kinda wrong mate. Trying to avoid being a broken record, Ill say that you perhaps got so upset that you're kinda creating these weird analogies that SE is calling you stupid, or that you simply trying again but buying a new Fantasia makes you stupid. Just...stop it. You are just hurting yourself, and putting yourself down and beating yourself up over it at this point.
You made a mistake. Just either shrug it off and enjoy the game, or just buy the Fantasia and try again. This time, you will know what to do and not make the same mistake.
