I agree - same with the BLM fight. Our group fought it a great handful of times, and when we finally downed won it was a very rewarding feeling; not just because we got our AF, but partly (and, at least, for myself mostly) because we won the battle.

I don't understand the OP's complaint. Are you saying it took *you* a couple hours to get full AF? Cause if you're keeping your jobs ~30 then that's bull and you know it. If you're complaining that other people are getting it so quickly then...so what? Being at max level when these quests have been tuned for people at the requisite level for the quests obviously means it's going to be easier for them. If you honestly think a level 30 quest should be difficult for even a solo 50 player, let alone a group...then I don't know what to say to that.
They shoulda made it a little more difficult to get the job its self.. instead of talking to 2-3 people and thats it. Give us a little more to do!
I know exactly what you mean. Stayed up early into the morning working with a group of randoms (we were all doing Dragoon) We were getting so close to winning the final mission to become a full Dragoon.(Probably about 5 fights)
Would have stayed up all night to win if needed, but my significant other, "pulled the plug" after realizing I was still up.
Gonna be epic to get my Armor
I think the quests were designed fairly well personally, especially compared to some of the other quests in the game. The more I see these L50 job quests, the more I'm convinced they're designed for a diverse group and that having 8 of any job isn't the way to go.
I helped a couple of Dragoon friends with their quest, the party ended up being 2 PLD, 2 CNJ, 4 DRG. Each Paladin was able to tank one of the enemies with healing support and the Dragoons focused on one at a time to take everything down. Went incredibly smoothly barring a few deaths near the end from that obnoxious move the Dragoon has. In this case the Dragoons just don't have the defense/HP to get through the fight easily.
Same thing with the last Paladin quest. Same party, split the enemies between the Paladins and the Dragoons were able to focus and kill one before taking on the other. Hate was a little weird but the Paladins were able to grab hate back easily in most cases. In this case the Paladins just don't have the damage potential to get through this fight easily.
cutters cry is a b**** ppl keep telling me its before boss and ppl keep saying its after the boss fight is fairly hard ppl have to understand u have to practice to get it aoe aoe aoe aoe kill have off tank pull it kill it when the solider spawns the little ants stop spawning if u do it rite then nuke solider bak to aoe aoe aoe
Ok, first of all, I was talking about one set of AF maybe two.
Second, the first 4 pieces of gear are pretty easy to get, just travel to the "chest" and open it up.
Third, I never said the end fight was super easy, I just think in a weeks time most everyone will have all jobs with all af.
I'm sorry that I want stuff to last a month to get...
ALSO, yoshi said he doesn't care about new people(twisting his words around). He is mostly catering to the people with 50s, he has even said that.
I should mention the job quests were perfect for the job and learning abilities.
Not the obtaining AF part.
Rokien you forget this is designed in conjunction with levelling, we are all lvl 50 so of course we are going to steam roll throught it.
For new players and 2.0 players the whole job quest line will be much slower paced.
If you're complaining from the perspective of a Level 50, well that's the problem. Doing these quests at the levels that are suggested would be far more of a challenge. Hell, the level ~40 - ~50 quests that I did for white mage required me to form a near full to full party for each one. It took me around three to four hours last night to finish all of the quests (still have to turn in the last one for Benediction), and that was WITH LS help, and WITH teleporting, also WITH having been maxed out, so the first few quests were a cake walk.
Also getting the white mage boots was a bitch (damn treants).
Please enlighten us: How would you make said quests last "a month" without, as you yourself mentioned, arbitrary roadblocks? Sure, I do agree that they could at the very least place a NM near each chest or a puzzle or whatever, but it's either that or add yet another stronghold coffer dungeon primal spamming fest as the other high tier gear we have.
In fact, getting them is a bit more of a work than most quests we have but less work than, say, primal weapons. And that's because the AF armor is not the "true" endgame gear. Sure, there are some very good equipment in there, but most are comparable to single melded materia gear and weaker than Sentinel / Sorcerer / Sipahi gear.
I'd say the current AF quests (which do require either A LOT of travelling or quite a bit of anima) is a good middle ground investment considering their power. The final battle for every quest is also reasonably challenging, and then people can use them until they get good melds, dungeon or stronghold gear, that take longer to acquire.
You still need a full to near full party to get at least two of the pieces from the quest that I did, and they're accessible at 45, not mentioning the body piece which also required a full party. I should note that the AF quests were also pretty fun, imo. It did not feel like a time sink, and yet it took me a couple of hours to complete.
Thats what i didnt like, u can change class/job to do the fights... they should keep it only for that job it adds difficulty, i did the bard fight with the ixali and wolves as bard with 3 more bards, u had to make an strategy to be able to kill em, then i did the same fight with a few friends so they changed classes and the fight was really easy, dont dumb down those kind of fight.
That. I'd love to see someone actually completing the BLM quest in an all BLM party.
You'd have to kill the boss and all the adds that keep respawning before they kill you, surviving only on necrogenesis, second wind, featherfoot and sanguine rite, considering they need like 3 well placed ancient magic hits to wipe an entire party even with healer and tank.
Those quests were made with class changing in mind.
To be fair I think these quests are perfect right now, they require some form of teamwork and are all completely able to be done within a 2 week span. The Dungeons and the Darklight Gear off the bosses in the new Dungeons will be far harder to complete and attain all pieces. This is a very good patch that should provide a good 1-1.5 months of solid actual content for everyone in a variety of means.
Finished the final WHM quest with 6 WHM. No tank! Was fun though, I'm very happy with the way the quests were set up. Will help keep dungeons alive even after new ones came out. Haven't seen that many people outside DH in a long time, was pretty cool. This patch added lots of content but what people aren't noticing yet is that it put things in place to make the content we already had worth doing again. I,for one, will be doing some Toto-Rak runs soon as I get out of hell(work). 250 seals per item? Yes please!
I think it's also worth noting that these quests had me going to some places that I had never been to before. Not sure if they were added in this patch, but it was cool to see some parts of these zones that I had actually never wandered into (for example the large tree at the end of the WHM story, that area was very nice).
Shoes - 45
Legs - 46
Gloves - 47
Head - 49
Body - 50
New weapons class/job - 50
Yoshida said in interview he didn't want AF to be really hard to get anyway, there will be plenty of future gear that will require multiple kills in dungeon, I duno what you worried about.
Next patch we getting AF weapons I think which may drop from Garuda so sit down and ....
Getting the WHM boots was interesting, didn't realise how you get past the Guardians of the Grove until a friend told me.
I think the AF seems about right; not everyone plays in massive LS; some people will never complete the sets because of the high level dungeons some are in (Dzemael and so on). It's structured so that almost anyone can get SOME of the set but you need to put more work in to get it all. With a small group, some of the quests are pretty tough (the BRD one with the Ixal and wolves was a lot harder than expected; will have to bring a WHM/CNJ next time for it).
On a side note, it's funny seeing how many NMs are claimed now...
It was nice meeting up with randoms and going through the quests together too. These last couple of days FFXIV has seemed more MMO-ey than ever.
I think that's what normally happens to a degree (although on Fabul at least there's always some activity going on in Ul whether it's an exp party or Ifrit fight or whatever). There's alot more content though in this patch, I haven't even looked into the whole trading nm/dungeon gear for seals to get promoted and barding stuff yet.
Plus, while delays do happen, the next patch isn't that far away is it and that's bringing hamlet defenses?
I guess it all depends. At first, I thought it was easy, but for a new player, it would take a significant investment in time to get the AF gear.
There really is a lot of content in this patch, but of course people are going to rush to complete everything ASAP, and complain that there is nothing to do.
Just so you know they clarified that it is not AF gear like you think of it like in FFXI. It is just starter class gear, Yoshi-P had said in another post somewhere in a dev post that they plan to have a real AF gear and to thing of the current gear as more or less job specific gear.
So you mean that gear that you can get pretty quickly isn't as good as gear that players take ages getting the right components for? Is this such an absurd idea?
It was the same in FFXI, AF didn't include the highest stats in the game but did and does provide some unique bonuses.
When I had to kill Bardi, I saw a group of 6 people waiting and figured 'great, I'm going to be here forever'. Ended up getting an invite straight away. Same happened with numerous NM- nice to see people helping others out (especially for the people doing these at level 30).
