Except the servers with actual populations like balmung and mateus are suffering horribly under the current system

The medium that's right there on the water? It's amazing I own it on my server.
You are right with the problem with the Goblet though. The only houses that look good are the ones that exist in the middle of the map (some aren't even exactly on the water but they still look good) and all the ones on the outside look horrible.
You're right rules change all the time... but you also forget this is a business and things like "grandfathering" accounts in actually is done to try to keep customers.
I'm grandfathered in at neflix for 7.99 for life... granted that's just streaming on one device, no discs, nothing but one thing but hey I only use one device at a time so it's a great deal... and if I ever feel like I need to upgrade I can, while keeping my price if I choose to go back down... that's why sometimes I pay for netflix even if their's nothing I desire to watch on it (and I know I'm going to be too busy that month to actually utilize it for "down time").
Big flaw with your comparison - you're comparing subscription prices to a ingame feature. Subscription prices being lower for grandfathered in people does not effect anyone else on Netflix. People being grandfathered in with 20 houses impacts other people who are also paying for the game. So your comparison is really flawed
It's unfortunate, but SE can't act on any information not explicitly found in the game, and for good reason, there's no way for them to verify what's posted. How do we know specifically that person saying they're selling the house actually is that person? It sounds silly to us but that's why. Even if they just petitioned the host to get the place shut down they would just move elsewhere.
It also say somewhere that gameplay and requirements and the likes may change over time, am near 10.000 hours in FFXIV, the things you say should give up or the likes is not a limited item like a housing plot in X ward X region... yes I think you should give them up, like it or not, rules 3 years ago is nothing compared to what it is today, all they gotta do is to make you sign a new ToS to change and then make it clear of the changes, don't want you punished or anyone, but reimbursed for your losses of course, but this does not mean you cannot have 20 accounts with one house each as it is, that is fairplay and your money paying for several subscriptions as it is, grandfathering, would say it is a bad move, SE reimbursing people for their losses would be better, I believe in fairplay in general as it is.
As it is I could care less if they do something about it or not, but they should, as in noted people keep on doing it with their alts one way or another ;)
I vote for no more wards though before SE clean up the current mess.
Huge flaw with your recommendation, is that SE does not have enough houses for huge overcrowded servers like Balmung and mateus, where most players have side FCS for RPing purposes. Even if they limited it to ONLY one house (FC only or private only), you are still going to be short what....15k houses? Take away the grandfathered ones and now you are only short.....what....14,600? LOL
The main thing hurting players who want housing is that the entire system was done half assed.
-plots not instanced
-player housing should have be apts only, that can be expanded in size to S/M/L.
-fcs only for houses . Prices should not have become so cheap. 3m for a small is insane; especially since any FC with even ten part time members can raise the Gil in no time.
-no expanding plot sizes. Plots should've been same size, and start off as a small, and as FC grows, add onto it, and upgrade size to m/l. It would have been the perfect Gil sink
-add more Gil sinks. There is nothing for Crafters to buy except for housing. It's a huge problem in the game. Without massive goals that push Crafters to save and play day and day, SE will loose customers. The game NEEDS fancy items (glams/minions/mounts) that are well over 20m to take away gil.
If there were 20m Gil mounts from NPCS, I would've bought those instead of mansions.
Even after I gave away 200m to others for cottages and meds as gifts, I still had 400m to blow. There's nothing to buy in this game.
So now I quit crafting and will just raid and design I suppose.....
Ahh okay, so you are totally 100% cool if SE wanted to take away your private large and donate it to an FC in need. Noted.
And you are totally cool with SE adjusting jobs and nerfs like I stated above retroactively? Noted.
Also, if SE did give me back my 300ish m Gil. What do I do with that Gil? Just....sit on it.... forever....so I can buy.... absolutely nothing. That silly mount? Got it. Glams? Got it. I've already bought 30+ houses for friends and family mates. (I've honestly lost count how much Gil I give away to others in need. About 30%) There's nothing else to buy except for housing.
You can argue that my comparison wasn't perfect but at the end of the day no one will ever find a perfect comparison.
I also dislike your idea that everyone is "entitled" to a house (I do think several housing only things should be put in grand companies and apartments, but that's another topic altogether) given the facts that currently exist.
Most servers still have several housing options still currently left (not counting auto demolitions that happen still, I know someone who got a medium in the mist the other day) because people refuse to buy the ones that exist (which means that folks are also going to get their houses cheaper than the ones who bought them before these rules).
You also realize most people who bought their houses before these rules (and have more than one) paid more than the house was worth right... because they probably paid the owner of the house and than bought the house itself.
Does not matter, when rules are changed everyone should abide by them. Then there is really no point of the changes. The grandfathered people were the reasons they had to make the rules, yet they didn't do anything about them at same time? then was the point of the rule change??
and they fact everyone pays a sub, yes everyone should be entitled to get a house in accordance to the rules. Which rules state people should not have 20 houses and 8 apartments. But for some odd reason they decided to give these people a pass...
Again they take houses away from people (especially after already grandfathering them) they will lose customers plain and simple... they'll also get bad press something I'm sure they work very hard to avoid.
Everyone pays a sub, under your logic that means regardless of player capability they should be able to run savage and ultimates since they pay for the sub and get clears.
Again it's mostly Mateus and Balmung that have housing problems, several other servers folks refuse to buy what is available (and so the houses have hit as low as they can go in game) because they don't like it and aren't just happy enough to own a house, it needs to be "the right house".
Also, as it was previously pointed out, even if they followed some folks suggestions Mateus and Balmung would still have housing issues while creating customer service issues, again not a smart business practice.
Maybe housing is not a problem on your server, but it is elsewhere, as for grandfathering this current system is not grandfathering it is worse as in like granting an unfair advantage to people who has 'exploited' the system, yes I know it is partly SE's fault and all and honestly not really a game breaking issue... if they gave me a discount for having played for a few years being a loyal sub to FF would like that I DO get a discount as paying for 3months at a time sometimes 6months... as for 300million... probably spendt like 100-200million just relocating own housing location quite a few times, so no idea where you are getting with the 300million thing it is easy to make gil in FF so should expect getting in loads if have worked for it.
Also would be more open to be able to own multiple apartments instead of houses on same character rather than actual housing plots, mostly because would make it easier on the SE side to just add in more apartment 'instances'

Anyone can own multiple apts. It's still one apt, one FC room, per character. So if you have deluxe account, and you rank up second lieutenant and lv 50 , each character can have an apt.
Edited because I can't cut and paste properly with this stupid phone. Lol
Stop editing the source you quote from, it makes it look like forgery if you cannot single it out in bold text or whatever, the entire Squadron LB thing that some raiders used in certain savage raids was not an exploit either? and yet some of those people paid for it with a perma ban! I said 'exploit' as in using the system. when you craft an item and sell it on the market you exploit legally by using legal tools at hand in a figure of speech, you just reply to this as you are maybe one of the few getting hit by all this as it is, the current system with grandfathering the way they do is simply not fair, and that is what it is all about all you can do is agree or disagree as there is no real argument about why should be allowed to be able to go at it like this as it is.
Tell you what. If you create a character on Ultros, and get them to lv 50, and rank up gc, I will treat you to a small cottage. No BS. It would require you to put in effort though. But, I will give you 4m Gil to have a cottage of your very own. Hell... This lav beds med has been sitting for a day now.....maybe it'll devalue down to 8.5m and I'll treat you to that instead.
If you don't take up my offer, then I will assume that you just want to stay on your overcrowded server and /cry forever instead.
Hmmm. I apologise. I don't know how my cut and pasting messed up the quote. My phone is tricky at times.
An exploit in game is usually taken down within a few days, or weeks, and was a systematic flaw in programming. Not a three year fundamental rule that was implemented over many months of programming at the very start of housing. See the difference?
And just to clarify. I have never exploited a raid trick. I have never bought Gil. I have never botted. I have never stole anything from any player. I have never used third party software. I'm not even sure if that exists for my PS4.
Owning multiple plots is by by far my favorite thing about this game, it’s the only reason I stay subbed. It’s not breaking any rules. You’re allowed 8 characters per account. I’ve never seen anyone say having multiple characters is against the rules, so why houses? People just don’t understand the rules. The logic I’ve seen used on these forums is unbelievable. Kittypryde is right about everything. I see people complain every day on every server, yet every server, including my own, always has plots open. I saw a medium open up in every area besides Shirogane the other day, they sat for hours.....where were all the house complainers? Oh I know, they want them handed to them instead of looking for them or working for them, plus they like to complain yet probably can’t afford them either. Same people that complain about wanting a grade 1 medium also only have 2-5 million. Hilarious.
Btw....here's a link to the housing census that me and a few other "greedy multi plot owners" keep updated regularly since Feb, that helps players find houses. It's about two inches up on this same forum. In case you need the link here it is.

That is what I have witnessed time and time again on Ultros also. A guy in one of my Linkshells was complaining about there never being a large open for his FC. I asked how much time he spent this week watching auto demos. Guess what his answer was? ZERO . I showed him how to Google the auto demo info online. It took 90secs. He still didn't know what to do, so I helped him unlock the four area aetheryte housing warps. I took him and we camped out every top of the hour that we are on and he got his lav beds large for FC three days later. Now he, along myself made a housing ls to help call out plots that auto demo and give the info to FCs in need. Wow....we are greedy as hell...lol
I am also a leader in a housing LS on my server, I try to let all my friends know whenever a good plot is open, as well as I from them of any tricks on how to get one, it’s amazing how many people don’t check aethrytes on the hour....I mean.....how else are you supposed to know if a plot is open? Unless you expect to literally run around each ward in every zone....but that’s the most inefficient and unproductive way ever haha.
Eh, when they added new housing last time they gave FCs the first crack at them and even in Balmung there were leftovers after for personal. I assume when they add more housing in the future FCs will get priority again. I'm pretty sure they consider personal housing a luxury after FCs get the first crack. As long as they keep up that trend, I'm pretty neutral. Maybe shorten the max timer so clickers don't spend 12 hours of their lives dying. there isn't really any functional difference between 3 and 24 hours if their goal is to prevent flipping personals.
Actually people who already had houses with last addon could relocate their current ones to a new plot, but meant no loss in plots anyway other than freeing up spots on other wards or housing locations.... relocated to medium quite a few times... and later on got lucky as a large house got empty and relocated there.
I think this is a server-specific issue. Having played on Balmung (hardly any houses available, if at all), Gilgamesh (usually a few up in Goblet and some in other areas), and Lich (Goblet is a ghost town with about half the smalls available and many at rock-bottom prices), I don't think it's time for more wards. Each server has a different culture, and unfortunately, part of being on a higher-population server is competing for houses. If you want a house that badly where you'd want to change the server. If not, embrace your server's culture, including its drawbacks.
Still 4000 houses can room 16000 people, let alone FC's can hold 512 people + FC rooms for players in it, besides of that you can have an apartment as well, have 3 tenants in your house and there barely would be an issue anywhere, spread the love a little and free up if you own multiple houses on a busy server.
I'm all for new wards. I suspect we'd be more likely to get Ishgard though. ALSO KITTY MY LAVENDER CHURCH IS AWESOME! :D
lmao you are so right. That suggestion is so absurd but i can see how some people in this so called community would think that makes perfect sense.
I pay a lower sub in this game cause i was grandfathered (1.0 veteran) in. His example make sense.
It sucks, I feel for you but if housing is a dealbreaker - let's face the facts you will have to move to a mid pop server to get a house.
It always ironic when people like yourself bring up these insane examples, how many of multiowners sit on 20 houses? A very very few I would imagine. It really isn't that big of a problem on a wider scale. Just cause it a problem on 1 server it hardly something happened on every server.
1. Nope, why should people get retroactively punished?
2. Won't work in the west. Japan is used to this but us westerns would never go for it.
3. Timer is only there for resell purposes. Just grab whatever and relocate yourself. There is literally 100+ houses on most servers. People like yourself just complain
4. As long SE don't collect SS as proof or 3rd party sites nothing will happen. On that note, is there even a TOS paragraph that states reselling of FC is not allowed?
Nope. That's a terrible suggestion also why? You punishing your own customers for following rules and have done nothing wrong.
Not that multiplot owners wouldn't be able to pay a "tax" but the suggestion is simply stupid.
They are not going to add more wards when there are tons available on the smaller servers. The system isn't really fair, but the way it's set up is not going to change because the long established players are the foundation that keep this game running. Those that bought and kept houses for years are the priority for the devs, as they are the ones most likely to remain.
Housing should always remain higher in demand than supply. It's acts as both a proper gil sink to prevent inflation when you include furniture and plot costs, and also as the only real way SE can make you keep paying a sub as you lose your house if you don't after x amount of time.
That's not always true, IRL I own property with a river running though the middle of it. My house is built about 40 feet from the river. After my house was built the law was changed where any permanent structure has to be built 100ft away from this river that runs though my property. So now my house is no longer in compliance with that law, but I will not have to move my home 60ft away from the river because the structure was there before the law was put into affect. I am GRANDFATHERED in. Just like these home owners. SE writes the laws of this game, there law now says only 1 personal house and 1 free company house per person (or something like that), with the exception that you owned more than that before this rule went into affect. Don't let your feelings and opinions cloud the facts.
Just gonna throw that out there. The ToS hasn't been updated since 1.0 was launched...
People like to use the part regarding Disruption to justify bringing some of us down, but if they would dare to read the whole thing, they would understand that disruption relates to another player's client/hardware or the servers. Miles away from the disruption that goes on in their head because they can't cope with the fact that someone is doing something they don't agree with.
And ... this is the problem when people just hold on to belief not due to knowledge, or fact, or educated information, or research ... but simply due to their belief in their own "logic" on how the world will run, because they think it just makes sense.
Yes, the rule change. Yes, we abide the change. But NO COUNTRY, at least one that resemblance any form of democracy, will retroactively apply punishment to previously legal instance. You're talking about constitutional level of violation in most countries in Europe (the EC's constitution has article directly prohibited this), and if any government body in the US try that crap, they'll face immediate riot.
If you live in a country that can retroactively punish for things you did that now illegal, but was legal at the time you did it, I highly recommend you to move to another country, and fast . Because I know how suck that is, I actually came from such one such country, and it wasn't a democracy. Funny enough, accusing people of broken laws that didn't exist was a goto method for corrupted government official in that country to repossess people's land and property.
Uhm if you need to expand road net or the likes government can buy your property for the right price and such irl... how else would you expand cities with a greater network of roads and better housing unless you can get away with a historic house/property that may not be used for this and that in court.
Sometimes grandfathering doesn't work. This time it's fine and not doing it wouldn't solve anything.
Law changes don't make any impact in this argument. Those that considered "grand-fathering" are predominantly long term players that have invested a lot of time and money into the game, and most likely to continue to do so. If you neglect or piss off that portion of your player-base in a game with this kind of business model, you are going to see a lot of people leave.
I don't like the way housing is done, but first come first served was the policy in place at the time, and people just have to be pro-active looking for a nice plot daily, asking around, or getting a good deal than sitting on a board complaining about it.
