Not at all. Call it Chemist, but keep it as an MP based healer. The idea could be that Chemist are trained in the art of aether manipulation, able to construct concoctions based on how they manipulate their aether.

The concoctions would be their main gimmick and the general concept would be foresight and understanding the content with the handicap that with each concoction (up to 3) your Max MP is reduced meaning you have less magic power to work with. Another concept they could add so that refresh isn't a must have is reducing the potency of refresh based on the amount of conctions active, 75% 50% 0%.

Seconded on both accounts. If Thavnair is going to be the next big area we explore on Hydaelyn, it has both DNC and BLU written all over it as both jobs have a very middle eastern/Egyptian vibe going for both of them. The community seems to be in favor of DNC as healer and BLU as tank, and it all just fits. I know there are a lot of players who want GEO, but I think DNC and BLU would make the majority of the playerbase happy as they seem to be the highest in demand.

I would believe these are the two most realistic and practical jobs to bring into FFXIV for the next expansion. I think the only way SE could piss people off by bringing them in is by making them a role other than what the majority of players want.

huh? i thought Geomancer supposed to be a DPS not a healer? Well if it is anything like FFXI... Well anything can happen but I rather have Geo as DPS and dancer as a healer :D

Developers want you to send them money while they are seeping cocktails on Hawaii doing nothing.

However, that's not how it works. Businesses need to adapt to the customers providing the customers with what they want (or at least be good enough at making people believe they want something that's useless to them) for maximizing gains or with what the customers appreciate/accept for a positive balance, but not necessarily good. And countless games were shelved because they did provide a "positive balance" but below the companies expectations.


Developers are at work. If they are told to develop this or that class by their superiors, they will have two choices. Develop the desired class or quit the job. Of course, ideally they would be given a significant deal of freedom in building the game (especially since nothing ever works well once the accountants start meddling in it), but they absolutely cannot ignore significant voices from the player base (if reasonable).

SAM was moreso the results of YoshiP, he really wanted it. Dancer and even Blu were more popular and were not added.

Also you do not need to be a caster to heal, Dancer would be perfectly fine as healer

I'd like Druid, Shaman & Warlock.

Inspiration! Seriously, it's not hard to throw together a bunch of pseudo-scientific claptrap that would be laughable in real life but plausible in a fantasy universe. "The DNC's inspiring dance excites the target's chi pathways, accelerating the body's natural healing ability..." and so on and so forth. It's all flavor, and it behaves exactly the same way as a magical cure spell would, but it's not magic, any more than a spear wound is "magic" just because it does the same thing a fireball does.

I do expect, however, that if we get DNC, it will not be a melee healer. It will stand at a distance, just like existing healers, because SE has implemented mechanics in the game that expect healers to be at a distance (for example, Nisi, in Alexander 4 - boy, would THAT be awkward in a party with two melee-range healers!). I suspect that folks hoping for a melee healer like in FFXI will be disappointed! A chakram might be a good weapon for a DNC to perform ranged attacks.

This makes me sad, because I didn't consider it, but you're right. Perhaps dancer could have a melee stance and a ranged stance.

100% hoping for BLU tank and DNC healer. Chemist could be interesting too, but only if they don't relay on some dumb "you have to keep potions in your inventory" gimmick.

Something like an Iron Knight for a tank maybe.
Based on Iron Man, the idea is you steal a prototype Garlean Magitek armor and as a tank can use missiles and wrist mounted blades to damage and draw threat. The armor's natural toughness can be augmented further by an energy shield. Gears are known as modules instead for tge armor as you improve it.

Onion Knight. Lalafell should be made the quest givers and the job class should be a tank or DPS...or both. I just want to be an Onion Knight and not just the armor so I can jab people with my tiny sword and destroy them with the meteor spell. ...I've clearly played too much Dissidia in the past, but still...! ;3;

You'd need to play the DRK storyline to understand why the WOL is an exception.

We got a melee dps and a magic caster dps in storm blood. Very high chance we will get a tank and a healer before we get another dps, of which if we do, it should be a ranged physical dps (like Bard or Machinist).

That said, tank is unknown, healer could be Geomancer, ranged physical dps could be a Dancer/Dirvish using Chakrams and thrown weapons. I can't imagine them adding another dps though in 5.0 considering how there's 3 healers, 3 ranks, but like 10 dps jobs.

My only problem with them bringing in GEO as a healer is I think it would be too thematically similar to WHM since FFXIV went ahead and made WHM the 'guardians of elemental balance'. If they could somehow rework that though yeah I'd love to see GEO. Until then...

Well, to look at it another way... There's three healers, three tanks, three ranged magic DPS, four melee physical DPS, and two ranged physical DPS. By that light, our assortment of jobs is pretty balanced; we'd be due for another ranged physical, but after that we could get anything except another melee physical and still keep that balance. While it's true that the latter three categories are pretty much all unified in having a focus in making the bad thing dead, each group does have a distinct feel that's strong enough to justify considering it a separate category. SE seems to agree, given the changes they made to the LB meter: Going in with a party that doesn't properly subdivide the DPS into two ranged and two melee has as serious an impact on the LB bar as going in with a duplicate job. (Something, ironically, "NO DUPES" parties rarely seem to take into consideration!)

All that said, I prefer healing and taking jobs to DPS jobs, and would prefer to see them get some new jobs over any of the three DPS categories! I do acknowledge that to be a matter of personal taste, however.

They'd add a DPS most likely. Just adding a tank/healer wouldn't break up the 70-80 rush enough for the servers to handle :P

Geomancer has been all over the map through the various games, though I always liked the FFT implementation the most. Then when XI GEO happened, RUN actually ended up being a lot closer to what I'd hoped for GEO to be. Since it would likely be taking the role of healer in XIV, I've been thinking about how you could spin it.
- Healer that uses melee attacks for damage instead of magic. Uses poles like Tactics. Meant to be in close to the fighting instead of hanging back.
- Debuff attack that changes the result depending on whether you hit it from the front, sides, or back. Cardinal Assault maybe? Choose between def down/mdef down/atk down/matk down, but they overwrite each other so pick situationally.
- Mix in a bit of XI. Has auras you toggle like BRD songs, with healer-centric functions. Regen aura, def aura, mdef aura.
- Healing Bell; calls a stationary pet bell, that when you hit rings and does an AoE heal. The potency of the heal gains stacks with every WS hit. Auto-attacks cause far weaker rings and give no stacks.
- Line-based AoE weapon skill, where the player slams the pole down on the ground causing a dirt shockwave. Slightly longer reach than standard cone AoEs. The idea would be that if you want to heal and damage, you can put the bell between yourself and the enemy, and use this to hit both.
- Some panic button style AoE healing for more wide-range general purpose recovery.
- Some terrain-based weapon skills of whatever flavor. It would be too much trouble to go through and specify what type of terrain exists everywhere already, so the best compromise I can think of would be strikes that evoke terrain effects. Like one that makes a mini volcano burst up, one that makes a geyser erupt from the ground, one to make tangling brambles sprout, and so on.

The fact that the first geomancer in Othard's history was also a renowned warrior makes me think that the discipline may indeed originally have had more of a physically involved aspect to it as opposed to just being a bell-waving WHM clone.

The geomancer you meet in the AST questline more or less states that the practice is just a shadow of what it used to be in the olden days.

Since it's been an issue how SE would implement hybrid jobs I'd make the Garlean expansion focus on them. Changing role in battle at any time with no penalty, role completely changes including a different full powered set of skills with the change. What is the theme? We know from raid story Garlemald is at virtual ideological war with it's more artistic and liberal factions so playing on that subversive story my set would be: *note: Owing to Garlean inability to utilize Aether, none of these 3 jobs will utilize it either.

Far cry from ffxi's version the arabic mage, and borrowing from Quina of FFIX, and Kimari of FFX Gourmand is foremost known for it's voracious and strange appetite, weakening and then consuming enemies of various families creating spells observed from, and inspired by the attacks of their wild meals. Then equipping their new power for fun and mayhem in the battlefield for good or for Ill. A gourmand is comfortable anywhere whether in the forefront of battle picking it's meal apart morsel by morsel or allowing other more ambitious warriors take center stage while sampling delicate parts from behind. Having little concern for the well being of their allies a gourmands abilities focus only on themselves and weakening whatever delectable they have selected for consumption. Gourmand will use it's voracious appetite, and mental accuity to create it's own version of an enemies most powerful moves then using the power of illusion and sleight of hand manifest those visions to it's enemies with damage done reliant on the casters Mind and Intelligence compared to it's enemies. This allows for a Gourmands spell to either succeed greatly and cause mass damage or fail completely and do very little, making it's best weapon it's own great appetite and it's best tool the massive and trusty fork they must carry into battle. This group is considered of concern to the empire for their unnatural hunger and refusal to accept the imperial rationing system, their abilities are considered disruptive to ordered society, and many gain powers which allow them to become street performers whose incomes cannot be accurately taxed by the empire.

These 3 groups of undesirables have earned the ire of the Garlean empire and have been targeted for persecution as a result of their willingness to provide support to Eorzean and insurgent forces alike, and foment rebellion within the ordered society.

i think if they did away with the class system they could really spice up the game make thief its own class and maybe make an archer a ranger instead of becoming a bard. or on the other end they could have prestige like classes paladin---> into divine knight dark knight into hell knight red mage to spell fencer and machinist to sniper to give a few examples. btw time mage plz time mage lol

but that would be dope maybe not that u have to have them but maybe its like an ability almost like atherflow stacks you can use an ability to craft the potions and this requires mp you would then still be able to heal the party even if you dont have any mp left because you made the potions they could even make elixirs for mp and hp regen or ether for mp regen it would be dope. tear gas for blind goo for slows nitroglycerine for AOE damage or something like that

dancer would fit in if they added a fourth role for support then they could give the bards archer type skills back to the archer and make that class into a ranger and make the bard a legit support class along with dancer chemist and time mage chemist would be support because it could be like a secondary healer that relies on potions for heals buffs and debuffs Dancer uses dances (of course) to buff and debuff and time mage uses spells like haste and stopa to and even rewind to heal back a portion of health again these heals wouldn't be as good as WHM SCH OR AST but they would allow for a bit of extra help and while the 3 main healers now would have much more healing potency these supports could offer more damage but not as much as traditional DPS thus allow a spot for other super obscure classes

The way I'd do it would probably be a modified version of mudras themed on classical alchemy. Something like fire + fire + sulphur = big AoE explosion bottle you toss. Maybe have cooldowns that are all about modifying the functions and power of the next bottle, and another rapid OCD that lets you stash whatever you've just brewed with a potential stock of three bottles in reserve and ready to go.

If they added Chemist, their skills would obviously be spells/abilities as opposed to actual potions you use from your inventory, if they tied it to inventory it would a catastrophically boneheaded move. Nor would it need anything like ALC to function properly.

Thematically I would love to see Chemist be added as a potential healer, I feel that Blue Mage for tank would be an interesting choice as well. I did think of Time Mage as a potential job but I feel that Astrologian functions very similarly to Time Mage and is one in all but name.

A lot of the suggestions about chemist and dancer are interesting, but impractical. Consider the implications of making a healer without MP: Lucid Dreaming would be considerably less useful as a role action, just shedding hate. Refresh, the Ewer, and other MP restores would suddenly not be as useful if you had a certain type of healer in your party.

Then there's this stuff about multi-role jobs, or prestige jobs... guys, what you're asking for is not a change to this game, it's an entirely different game. Which is fine, maybe they should wrap up the story and start working on a new game. Given all the complaints on the forums about how stale this one has gotten, wouldn't that be the logical thing to do? I don't understand why people want them to change everything that makes FFXIV FFXIV.

i wouldn't say that it doesn't use mp more like how a paladin has moves that us mp and ones that us tp the chemist would have some low level heals that used mp but the potions would require mp ( magic infusion for story purposes) and those would be the main heals although i still think it would work better as a support class witless potent heals and focus more on buffs and debuffs

The people that suggest a healer without MP suggest a completely broken class for another reason. Those are the sorts that suggest a healer that uses inventory.

Others want to see a dancer or chemist but know that they will use the existing resources. And out of those, I really don't think anyone is saying that they shouldn't use MP at all. Rather that they want a non-caster. There is no issue with using MP for non-spell abilities, thematically. They may be called spells, and that's fine, but they are not spells. Dark Knight is an example of such an MP user. The MP represents negative emotions of the dark knight, not magic. For Dancer it may represent their charisma or will to bring change with their dance. For chemist it can represent the "fuel" for whatever excuse they have for unlimited potions.


However, both would use MP and TP depending on the ability.

Will it really matter what job they add? It will either be a melee DPS, ranged DPS, tank, or healer and with all the jobs being so homogenized, what will it really matter? Really only one unique outfit per job, everything else is shared by others of the same role.

People want BLU, well if you want it because you are a fan of it, you are going to be disappointed. You wont get skills in the same way you would in other FF games, you will get a job quest at X level from the job trainer, go to X location, battle X monster, Return to trainer, learn "goblin punch". Now you have it and it will be part of your base combo. In the end i dont see it playing any differently than a NIN or a MNK.

People wanting BST, you will get SMN with a different skin. You will have three dudes you can "tame", tame them once, now they are yours to call on any time and thats all you get.

It sucks but it will have to be that way to function within the framework the devs have built for this game. Moves have to be predictable and reliable, you cant have that with random moves. *BST enters dungeon. *Other player "WTH man! why did you cue for a dungeon with that monster? you are going to be absolutely useless!" *vote kick is initiated or players drop out.

I hate that they have taken this approach with the game, its an MMO on rails.

I want Viking as a tank. Hammer + shield, and abilities with lightning visual effects. I wanna be Thor pls

As a disclaimer, these thoughts are from someone who has never played any other MMO, as a result, if you feel I have misinterpreted something, or you want to add/criticise anything, I encourage it. Just note, I do like playing devils advocate, but I feel it is the best way to get solid ideas that could actually work.



An idea I that could potentially work for Chemist, that uses both MP and TP is a system where you could use semi spammable skills to enhance your normal abilities. To draw a parallel to WHM, Potion would be cure, Hi-Potion would be Cure 2, Mega-potion would be Medica etc. You would use MP to use these abilities, just like a normal healer, however, you can use your TP to activate a buff that gives the next heal a regen effect, or a shield effect, these obviously can't be as powerful as what a WHM or Scholar brings, but it is a bit of flexibility in what you need for each situation.

Going on to damage items, things like Red Fang, or White Fang can be used, you could even use the same potion enhancing abilities to change the DPS items, the 'regen' could give the added benefit of a DoT, the shield..I have nothing good outside of AoE or extra damage, but maybe a physical/magical defence down.

This is just something I thought of in the last half hour, I don't know how well it would work, but I think it would be an interesting idea.



As for a Beast Master Tank, I just think, no, it won't work. As a tank, I know how important positioning is, move slightly to dodge an AoE to step back so the boss doesn't move much, correct timings on cooldowns etc. To try and manage all that using a PET (which is how I assume people would want it to work based on past posts) would be a nightmare, not to mention enmity control. I just cannot see how it can function effectively and have it not be either really strong and broken, or really underwhelming.

As for a melee healer, something like Nidhogg springs to mind, with his cleave. Unless you learn when every cleave happens for every fight, you will have the potential to get cleaved and wrecked, but then, that Bard at the back didn't move quick enough and now you have to travel across most of the map to heal them. Yes, you could add movement abilities, but that leaves less for other things, plus I don't think it's what people had in mind with a melee healer, practically instant teleporting across the battlefield to heal everyone, then you have AoE heals, which will basically be a massive AoE around the user etc. At this point, you might as well make them a caster, or think of a different role for dancer because I don't think a melee healer will work at all. Instead, a support role, but in melee range would probably suit it better.



My opinion on Geomancer, if you make it a healer, it becomes too much like WHM, so a tank or DPS would be more suited. Spitballing ideas, rather than have terrain influence their spells, they could align themselves with different elements, one could give abilities DoT effects, one could enhance the GEO etc. This idea isn't thought out as you can tell, but I'm not the best at making up ideas in the first place.



As a mainly tank user, I would love a new tank to play with and I think a magic tank would be a nice change of pace. The obvious one that people say is Blue Mage, mainly because they get hit with attacks and learn them (but we all know that's not how learning abilities is going to work, so in my eyes, that is irrelevant in deciding role). However, sticking with the tank idea, it still needs a weapon and personally, I thinks there is too many swords, or blades out there, so another idea of mine would be some sort of magic orb. It will essentially be a glowing ball of aether in the middle with an intricate/patterned/etc. design for a sort of 'orb case' for lack of a better word. This orb would essentially be where the BLU draws on the monsters power. An example, fire breath, an ethereal dragon head pops out and uses fire breath, Goblin Punch, you throw the orb/thrust forward with your fist whilst holding the orb and it causes the Goblin Punch effects. Using this idea, you can have alot of flexibility with BLU animations and how they look, which I would say is a good thing considering the vast aray of skills they have.


Again, I'm not the best at coming up with idea, especially not new ideas, but I do enjoy reading other job idea people have, as long as they include a general idea on how they play. Being given a list of abilities without an idea of how it all comes together just puts me off, however, if I like an idea, I am more likely to tear it apart, which is a good thing, as it means I like the idea, which also means you don't need to go into too much detail with abilities. I do very much prefer ones with a general gist of how the job functions and what it can do as opposed to potency numbers.

Blue mage should have a Flail/Morning Star/Mace of some kind as a primary weapon, then an off hand that generates a 'magic shield' just for a bit of flare and difference compared to Paladin. Could use a mechanic that the shield happens in Tank Stance, but in Offense Stance the shield changes to something else (a second mace making it duel wielding? Dunno)


As for the chemist suggestion: Make it use MP to 'create' the heals (potions) that can be stored and deployed as seen fit. So a 3 second cast time to create a potion using MP, but then it is deployed as an OGCD with either an incredibly low or no CD. That or the potion type has a Cooldown built in. Small healing potion = small CD, larger ones = larger CDs. You could stockpile a few at once and then 'burst' heal but deploying them rapidly between casts, though you can only stockpile so many at a time. Could also be a class that restores TP/MP to allies as well.
