I don't see lalafells until I've already tripped over them.
Pretty much that. Every time I play my character, no matter the race, I see her as my "other me" so I definitely see my lalas as grown up adult but, on the other side, I can pass the fact they look like children and I makes me uneasy when I see them dressed in certain manner (thus why you'll never see my lalas wearing something sexy in opposition to my other races)
Pretty much like Halflings, Gnomes or Dwarves (minus the beard) in traditional heroic fantasy
Potential French fries.
The lack of actual young/child versions of the other races doesn't help the situation.
No.
They look fairly small, but there's not many MSQ lalafells that talk in a very child like manner.
In most fantasy games there are dwarvish races, lalafell is just the ffxiv version.
They're very anime like in their facial features, though, so that might be partially the cause of people seeing them as children.
To me, Lalafells are definitively adults.
It appears that FFXIV have some problems on personalizing the age of your character. It doesn't have even wrinkles (F'lhaminn should have some, since even Miqo'tes can get older).
I definitely see them as adults, simply because the game portrays them as adults irregardless of how they look. Most of the males have deep, very adult voices and the females are very mature in nature. I could see maybe if one never watches cutscenes perhaps they could assume they are more child-like, but for me that is not the case.
I see Lalafell, and then get sad because we don't have goal posts, end zones, and equipment for a proper game of Football
I see them as just another dwarf race, this time less ugly. Its more like the polar opposite of western dwarves in fiction where theyre all ugly lil shites. Their emotes are too cutesy though.
Localization and voice team did a good job on making them seem more adult. I can't take them seriously in the Japanese dub of the game but do in the English version.
I think of them as hobbits because of there size.
I see them as footballs.
I like to pet them because they are adorable
I often wonder if that's partially due to the treatment from other races. Like, no matter what lalafells do, no matter how hard they try to be taken seriously. Too many bad days and all everyone wants to do is pinch your cheeks and say "AWEEEEEEEE WUBBIDA WUBBIDA WUBBIDA!!!" before wrapping them in a blanket and putting them in a bicycle basket or oversized handbag. INSTANT EVIL LALAFELL!!!
Does this sound like the voice of a child?
The Lalafel "child" we saw used the full adult model. I certainly hope we're not meant to believe that they're born fully grown. Also where have we seen Elezen children? Was it the same event?
Maybe they're just built to balloon or something? It's not like your internal organs aren't already crushed when carrying a child. It does give me a funny picture though. Back when society was still tribal, Lalafel men would be forced to roll their pregnant wives in order to move them.
I suppose the more likely explanation is that they grow very rapidly.
Huh, I dunno how I forgot about Honoroit. Alphinaud and Alisae aren't adults, but I'd hardly call them children either. Honestly considering Honoroit dons combat gear, I'm hesitant to call him a child as well. He certainly doesn't act like one.
NPC lalafells I can easily see as adults, PC lalafell on the other hand well...unless they have facial hair I can't really see most of them as adults, mainly cause of how most of them dress.
They're not, and like I said in this thread, according to what lore I've seen and heard, they stop growing at around age 10, so any Lalafell children we've seen would have to be that age at the youngest.
Hopefully we'll see proper models whenever we get to Thavnair.
I see them as adults... cute adults. Someone also said that they look like chibi anime characters, and I actually think that it fits perfectly.
I'm really interested in how a child Lalafellin would look like now tbh, just to make a comparison between adult and kid lalas.
It's a split.
On one hand, most of the adult Lala's we meet are either courageous and headstrong(Pipin) or straight devilish(the one dude that name escapes me but he had a bitchin stache)

In the picture there I feel like it's pretty clear Honoroit is a kid just seeing him compared to an adult Elezen. Yes he has more reaponsibility than a child in our world would but when you look at Ishgard as a sort of 'middle ages' type civilization that makes sense. He is referred to as a pageboy which I feel like is also not the job title of an adult.
The twins aren't kids but they aren't adults either. They're likely in their late teens but unless we are to assume they are something other than genetically Elezen (despite their lineage from a known Elezen) I feel like we have to at least understand they are examples of Elezen who have not reached physical maturity.
There's also Saulette in the manor after you finish 3.3? 3.4? One of the two, who is definitely a child. In addition, HW BSM quests have Laurisse, who's still young, the CRP quests have the quest npc's son, there's commonly children in the brume, and there's that kid whose name I forgot that's rescued by Vidofnir in 3.2? 3.3?
Ishgard is chock full of elezen kids if you pay attention.
Lalafells are specifically listed as the dwarf race, although they are also noted to look like children to some, but moreso from a far distance.
Honestly I bet if they made them how a dwarf race usually ends up in popular games, they would end up being either unplayed due to ugly looks, or they'd just be another furry race.
Sorry if you already posted it somewhere, but please source. I could never find this info, and even asking GM's after they helped me with other situations (That warrent the ticket not me just opening a ticket going, "HOW DO LALA AGE") and it would have helped with my rp setup...
Yes, they look like children to me, and as a result I really feel uncomfortable with some glamours I've seen.
Also, I hate when lalas are used for a model for new gear because I can't actually see what it'll look like. :( No other race is as distorted.
I see them as adults. Cute "dwarf" race. Glamour them however you want.
I see them as children, yes.
I also can't take them seriously; like, when one appears in a scene and starts acting all evil, pulling evil or smug faces and all that stuff -- I just roll my eyes or shake my head. I hope the dev team doesn't expect people to take them seriously, because... just look at them, the grubby little sacks of rancid rubber flesh with stupid expressions and less-than threatening... well, everything; a scene with one in it loses any tension, suspense, threat, etc the moment one starts talking tough or is being portrayed as the enemy/threat/villain.
I think a different small race would've been better, something that doesn't look anything like Lala and the main selling point isn't that it's "cute" (they aren't cute...). I don't like anything about them.
You can see them as whatever you want, but the fact of the matter is that they are adults.
Hell, our very first introduction to Momodi has her musing about "lady's talk" comparing the size of dingdongs.
Unfortunately the sources I have on that come from multiple sources of hearsay: basically a few unrelated RP'ers I knew that went by the idea that by the time other races would start puberty is around the time that Lalafell appear to stop the clock. However, I can give you the opposite end of that spectrum from the Eorzean Library:
And if you've played the 2.0 BLM questline....Quote:
It is not uncommon for Lalafell to live well past the age of one hundred, and even that figure is only a rough estimate of their distinctive aging curve.
The older Lalafell was said to have spent 90 years in prison, which put his age somewhere in the mid-100s range.
Here's hoping Thavnair will teach us more.
Yes and thats why people like them.
This is why I ask: I see them as adults, but I want to know how many other people don't because I'm considering making machinima and I want to gauge what the reaction would be if there's a lalafell who's a bit of a womanizer.
Judging by the responses, I'm guessing people would either find it funny or disturbing, which isn't necessarily what I was going for.
Another thing for me is...
I find it hilarious when a Lala get pissed off on the forums, it's so hard to
take them seriously lol. They're just so cute so I want to cuddle them. xD
