1 account buying 14 houses in 1 ward.

.. probably, from what I've read they did nothing maliciously. They just don't want to give up what they've built simply to please maybe.. 24 other people, lets say 200 in the off chance that ALL those houses get picked up by FCs and everyone gets to enjoy them. They enjoy what they've made and are responding with understandable standoffish attitudes to what probably amounts to hundreds of abusive /tells, messages, and posts.

do they have a moral duty to give those up so other people can have housing? . NO. A thousand times no. There are other servers, other games and other things people can do. It took me a year and a half of hoping, saving and finally stalking the demolition times to get my SMALL house. I begrudge nobody who held on to their plots or was able to get there before me, we all had the same opportunities. Shirogane is coming up, I hope I can get a house. Raise your voices sure, but don't blame 2 people who worked within parameters to achieve something they planned out. They didn't 'sploit or cheat. They didn't even game the system. Just put in time and slowly but surely bought out one house at a time in one ward. Complain to SQ. Message them. Petition them. If you want them to listen give them ideas on how to get more servers setup for housing and putting money in their pockets (sorry this is what will work, that's how a company thinks). You will achieve nothing by berating 2 individuals who seem selfish to you.

I stand with the 2, and say to the rest: if you want something done about it, complain to someone who can do something about it. If I was friends with these two I'd give them a raised eyebrow over the practice, but they've done nothing wrong. People seem mainly mad because they aren't "getting theirs". "they aren't doing anything with all those houses!" .. how do you know? It looks barren to you? do you know their RP narrative? maybe the resident in that house in that story is dead.. or very spartan.. or whatever. Not your house, not your problem.

I mean like... simple FC search shows 2279 single person free companies with an estate and recruitment closed, the Mateus FC's show up in this search. Add in the number of open ones and those with a plot(1674/22) it goes up to 3975.

Cause they're not just buying a personal house, the individuals running the FCs probably also have their own house. So that's 7950 houses, which is over three and a half servers worth of housing plots, potentially on top of more houses on mains which are in actual FCs. This is also before considering that some of the other super small free companies (2-3 players) might also be used for the same purpose.

Vague maths say that's something like 5% of the total housing in the game, across all servers. At a glance over half of the FC owned housing game-wide is held by free companies with ten members or less.

So yeah, I think that one personal house per account per server is completely fair, particularly given that RPers (if that's really a concern) could just go to other servers or invest in apartments.

Putting in some activity requirements for FC houses, as opposed to just entering, could ensure that the houses are going to active FCs rather than likely 1000s of FCs that are probably only used every few weeks to keep the houses. Shouldn't be too much, but really, it should be hard for one person alone to maintain one, increasingly so for each additional Fc

Also making a special FC only district with even better plots could encourage people to move them into there freeing up space in the regular wards. Maybe castles with apartment sized rooms? If the activity requirements were added, you could even make them based on plot size so that the castles require really active groups to maintain.

Wouldn't mean everyone gets a house sure, but it could mean nearly eight thousand people do.

However now that the houses are in short supply because many refugees from more crowded worlds arrived to that server they rightfully feel aggravated coz they're being denied a gaming resource, even tho they moved to a smaller world.

The multi-house owners defend their position argument that “ for example, not everyone deserves the Savage raiding mounts if they don’t do Alexander. “ but that argument gets killed by the fact that you don’t get more than ONE SINGLE mount no matter how much Alexander you do and no one gets deprived of a mount if they do Alexander...

It’s not like the system is keeping other players from getting the mounts that work hard for them just coz some overachievers got them all... And in the housing scene the system is keeping houses from other players just coz someone else got them all first.

So we all agree the housing system is poorly designed, and these guys took advantage of a situation.

No point crying over spilled milk. So, moving forward...

On the upside this latest housing scandal will probably force SE to take some action and hopefully add more houses and lock down housing to "ONE HOUSE PER SERVICE ACCOUNT PER WORLD"...

If they already got 20 then thats ok, but they can't get more, no matter how much money they got. And if they sell or relinquish them they do the system a favor, until they reach the limit.

Also, your examples are...poor. Plenty of people have invested just as much time into trying to get a house as these people. It's not the same as getting a significant other, or buying a car. Especially since cars are not exactly in limited supply. I don't know about your parents, but mine raised me to share.

Also, I'm an RPer. If you design your house generically enough it's hardly an issue.

I wonder how many people complaining here would give up the houses if the positions were reversed? If you'd been playing on an empty server where no-one had been using the houses, and you'd put months and months of time and effort into leveling characters, raising the funds to buy those plots, and hours upon hours decorating them.... would you be willing to just hand them over for nothing because a sudden influx of players demanded that you should? And be honest. Would you really be that nice?

The housing system in this game is broken, and certainly there should have been a limit of one personal and one fc house per account from the beginning, but housing on Mateus has been empty for years while servers like Balmung have been so overcrowded that even smalls there are being hawked at 40million just to relinquish. While I do have sympathy for completely new players who never had a chance to save up and buy a place before the influx happened, there was nothing stopping anyone from transferring to Mateus, or making a new character there, if housing was really that important to them.

People should really be directing their ire at SE for making such a limited housing system. The two people with the houses in the Goblet, Ward 12, didn't buy those places up out of spite or to flip them like greedy idiots on Balmung do with every housing update. They simply played the game and channeled their time and effort into something that no one else on the server had much interest in.

And while, yes, owning an entire ward between two people is excessive, and yes, it would be nice of the people currently hoarding houses on Mateus to offer them up to new players, its not right for people to be hurling abuse at them for it either. Stamping your feet and demanding that they relinquish everything now because suddenly people/you want to buy them after years of no interest in such a small server isn't going to accomplish anything.

Instead, we should be petitioning SE to fix their broken housing system. Or at the very least open up new wards to account for the demand, now that even the smallest servers are selling out of plots.

Well when people are willing to use the "Gil" seller service to get millions of gil to afford it what can you expect. The best thing SE could do for the housing is this

Allow 1x Plot of Land that cover Small - Medium - Large for a FC that reaches Rank 8 but to build the Hall you need to spend the company coins, 500k gets you 1 small cottage then you need 1,000,000 company coins to upgrade the Cottage to a Two Storey home and then 1,500,000 to convert to the mansion.

Players that rich 2nd Lt with their respective Grand Company should be allow to continue to buy apartments but by using Company Seal (and remove the cap) It would cost the player 500,000 company seal to buy the apartment. For players wanting to own a plot of land they would need to complete an housing quest chain similar to the Anima weapon, whereby the player needs to do various thing, this would include find the land, cultivate it and make sure its foundations were ready etc like the beast tribes do. Once the land is sorted the player would then need to use the Tomb Stones to purchase items that could be handed in to a builder to develop the cottage/house/mansion the more you hand in the quicker the building is constructed.

This would over night destroy the only reason to use the GIL seller

This whole situation sucks and should hopefully serve as a wakeup call for SE to rethink housing.

I mean...we all know it won't. But it should.

Also, like...who gives a damn if they bought the houses when the servers were empty? That's not the real issue. Shirogane housing opens up sometime in the next few months, correct? in theory, if someone is fast enough, they could do the same on a server that's actually well-populated. If we follow the logic that those two players did nothing wrong, what's wrong with someone else using a bunch of alts to buy a bunch of housing in Shirogane? They got there first. They didn't "cheat." The game allows it.

Would that make you angry? Why? They technically didn't do anything wrong. Whether or not the server is populated is ultimately 10000% irrelevant.

Personally, I think those two players are selfish and everyone like them is selfish. That said, that's only part of a larger issue which is: the housing system sucks. Limited availability is bad enough, but then the fact that this is even a possibility is insane and only serves to drive home just how poorly thought out the whole thing is.

Exactly. People should actually GO LOOK. I did. The houses are built, but most are locked and empty. There's nothing there to them. Of the ones "decorated" they are barely decorated.

I think SE thought alts wouldn't really have a chance to meet housing req's while there were still houses available I think SE INTENDED for it to be a house per character as long as that character met reqs: level, money, story.

This is not a valid argument. They aren't made due to several reasons; gas mileage, carbon output, and crash ratings. It has nothing to do with "greed" but safety ratings. Most of these cars now are show cars. They're not used for their intended purpose.

I wish people would stop making stupid arguments to try to weasel around that doing what they are doing is fine. It's not. They're hoarding TONS of server space, empty houses, for no reason other than greed. How anyone can agree that this is great and wonderful needs some serious reflection.

You obviously have no idea about classic/ collector cars. To be deemed one, it has to be registered as one. There's no point in being mad at the people who own houses, because they're the symptom, not the cause.

I will never understand how anyone at Square Enix approved such a poorly designed, badly-implemented housing system that benefits what I estimate to be less than 5% of the total active playerbase.

If Square can't make enough wards to make housing available for every player (in addition to limiting the houses to one persona/one FC per server per account), then they should make housing instanced.

And if Square is unable or unwilling to make housing instanced, then they should just remove housing entirely. There's no point to the entire thing if the majority of players will never be able to access it.

They shouldn't have made this mess since 2.1 and should have asked fans about what they wanted in housing system\. No matter how many wards they make, whether it'd be 500-1000 wards at this point, there will always be ppl finding out ways to buy whole plots in 1 ward. Either they make instance based ward for particular friends and groups to share the ward/land, or they just make one plot based as instance.

2.1 was disastrous and 2.3 was disastrous for adding personal and FC housing together, and then 2.55 with subplot with no additional wads was disastrous. 3.3 was disastrous and apartments didn't help.

So I want to know is this: how will people want to move out of small house/apartment due to limitations? How can they move to medium or large? Why can't everyone have their houses equally or at least have their preference of sizes/furnishings?

Adding lot of wards shouldn't really be that bad. So what is going on with these developers? Hope they'll answer this by next Saturday

See I'm not going to lie, I want instanced housing mostly for the fact that I'll no longer be surrounded on all sides by hideous houses that make me cringe each time I run to the market board. However I'm not going to buy an entire ward just so I can take my toys and run off into the sunset with them. Just because I find a lot of people's decorating senses to be lacking doesn't mean I have any right to deny them the chance to have fun simply because I think I can do better some of the time. That's such egotistical and backwards thinking that it's a wonder to me that these people even allowed themselves to be put on record as saying this trite.

Also quite honestly, I'd much rather have a ward decorated to the brim with Moogle Poms and Paissa houses than a ward with empty gardens that sit in front of equally barren and locked houses. That ward looks dead for lack of a better term and the homogeneous nature of their aesthetic makes it all the worst for those few houses they have managed to decorate. It's boring and lacks life even more than the ward my FC resides in.

From what I recall the issue with a lot of this is that the coding of the game isn't that stellar to begin with. Some of my tech friends have mentioned that most of 1.0's assets are still running in the background due to the hodge podge nature of ARR's reconstruction and it doesn't help that apparently the game has server issues on top of that. This system IS doable however. LoTRO has a nearly identifcal housing system, though with hooks instead of free placement, and hundreds of wards per housing area. They also have specific houses in each ward for FC's to use that player characters cannot purchase - though I'd argue the ratio would need tweaking if FF14 ever adopted the system. Yes it's an older game and yes it has less to load, but the point is that it /can/ be done.

Which makes our current problem really sad, because it's been 20 years since Ultima Online and FFXIV is one of the MMOs that has to learn the hard way that housing must always, ALWAYS be instanced, because you will never have enough space for all players otherwise.

Japanese game and all that, yeah, but still.

At this point, I think instanced plots would be the best solution give Square isn't addressing multi-plot owners like this. The question of housing woes get dodged too often. I'm still waiting to see if the community team or which one of them are gonna eat this question. Or rather, see how long it'll take until the topic is locked.

As much as I'd love neighbors, not if the plots are going to be owned by alts that never get used because of greedy hoarders/house flippers.

I am not in favor of instanced plots. I think people who want a house in this thread either don't have the time to play, which can be legitimate (work, school, etc.) or do have the time but aren't putting in the work to find a house.

First of all, the abandonment timer just works for those who are diligent enough to check aetherytes at the right time. That right time has been stated multiple times by many people, so no point in mentioning it now. I have found abandoned large plots on Gilgamesh (10/12/2016) and Leviathan (7/13/2017), both of which I got. I am no longer on Gilgamesh, but it was the second biggest server before congestion reduction happened, at which point I left for Leviathan. No idea whether that is still the case.

Second, housing feels more realistic in FFXIV. Neighborhoods have some people instead of one house and only NPCs. It's great to meet people to socialize.

Third, the alt problem shouldn't be a problem. They had gil to do it when the server was dead. So, no reason why he can't have them, because it's honestly not his fault there was an influx of people to Mateus. However, I know it should be one account, one personal house, and blah blah blah. But it's not happening until SE decides it's for the best. And so far, it hasn't happened.

Fourth, there are responsible people who own multiple FC houses, and use them. Why should the FC I'm in be punished because one person decided to buy up 28 houses on a different server?

I can't support what Elamys said enough.. my FC is sitting on way more than the price of a large house for the fc and we simply can't use it because there isn't even small plots open on the server...

This, I have enough for a small right now and am slowly working my way towards perhaps affording a medium at the rate I'm going. I WANT a house and I play every day due to my chronic conditions making it impossible to currently work. However I'm also on Balmung which almost /never/ has open houses and if they are they're far beyond the base price, to the point that it isn't uncommon to hear of a small house in the Mists selling for over 20 million depending upon where it's located. Sometimes even more. What's more is that in the ward my FC is a part of I NEVER see half of my neighbors, nor do their houses EVER change. We had a large house above us that was barely furnished and left to rot for TWO YEARS and only recently was bought out because someone managed to track down the owner who was holding onto it on his alt - never even getting to 60. (I watched his profile religiously, he'd ONLY log in to keep the house and never did anything else with that character.)

That's a broken system. It's not laziness that's making it this way either which is highly conceited to even suggest.

Well, since a Liveletter has passed and there's been messages from the community team, I think it's safe to say that they probably don't give a damn about the housing. Or rather that it's a low priority on the totem pole. Like... the lowest.

Housing TOS be damned at this point.

Sadly this is all cause of Square Enix. (x.x) A lot of people including me broke off from an fc and started our own and earned the gil to buy a house. Sadly it is the same case of plots being sold out. I know that stuff like class balancing and so on takes priority cause it screws up stuff in the game or makes a class not enjoyable. However, this system should have never been put in like this in the first place. Now we can all argue over the people buying more then 1 or 2 houses. Fact of the matter is the system is flawed and no way can support the amount of people in the game. It is not just people that are transferring cause of the incentive. Its players that just came or returned. Or like in my case split off and started their own fc and so on.

Square Enix should not have gave people the option to do this type of thing when they did not have the power to support it. They should have known better now they have to either 1 start changing with all the new wards and area or 2 pull the rug out from peoples feet. Cause most of us know they do not have the ability to just make shit tons of houses. I for one find it not only a problem cause it is an enjoyable part of the game to enjoy and relax. That it also stops FCs from utilizing the uses and conveniences of airships. People need to resort to cheap tactics and other sorts when a ward opens now on the more populated servers to acquire a plot of land.

This is a game, run by a company in the real world. Used by people in the real world. Real people do what they want and as long as you don't punish them or tell them NOT to do something, they will do WHATEVER they want.
and.. snarky.. btw.. the real world DOES have people who buy up all the real estate and deny others a chance to have anything, as well as selling back that real estate at a premium.

What I'm saying is that expecting people to act like they're in a kindergarten class (everyone share everything nicely!) is unrealistic and entitled. I'm talking about what to expect from interacting with other real people. I am aware FFXIV is a fantasy world, but it's denizens are played by real people who will do things the same way they do everything else in the world.

What I haven't seen anyone mentioning is that that ward does not belong to them, those houses and everything else inside the game belongs to Squareenix ( and that's one of the reason it is agains the TOS to buy itens and gil from other players with real money. ). We even have a timer to prevent inactive accounts from keeping houses forever.

We know that wards are a limited resource that, due to the nature of their design, require a lot from the servers to maintain. An area designed to supply at least 30 players ( or dozens more, if each house was taken by FCs ) is being locked out by just 2 people.

Judging by Squareenix's recent campaign, we can tell it is not in their best interest to keep a server "dead" forever, after all more players equals more money and the game is a business. Even if the server was low population back then, it wouldn't be forever.

Apparently in the housing market. Just like in RL is a nice way to make gill fast I blame RTM traders if they are willing to sell for ridiculous amounts. Only problem is hard to proof it. :/

At least in the real world you don't lose your house if you don't enter for 45 days. You can actually go on holiday without worrying about someone else legally taking your house.

I never really liked the idea of the housing reclaim. It's the wrong way to go about it by far. Punishes people for having a life outside the game, especially since even tenants can't reset the timer.

One medium house and one apt here. Housing should be limited to 1 private house per server until they upgrade hamsters *rolls eyes*. Then, perhaps one per housing area only. Having a so called, "social neighborhood", which is non-existent anyway, is not worth denying housing to 90+% of the players.

House hording and fully decorating them all is like real life hording, causal effect: mental illness.

Part of me wants to organize a sit in on their ward? overpopulate their ward preventing them from being able to zone into it. i'm not sure how many people that would be but their has been times where i have not been able to zone into a zone because of over crowding.

I don't like it even though that's how I got my house. May as well take advantage of the feature/restriction if I can. I disagree with it because it ties housing directly to paying your sub and logging in. I'm sure loads of people who adored their houses lost theirs because life happened and they couldn't log in.
