Also how are you coming up with 2hr a day players? Majority of players I know play at least 4 hours a day.

I hate weeklies, not because they limit progression but because they take so long to finish.
It takes FOREVER to finish WT, the 3 Mhaci raids, etc. when all I want is to finish leveling my crafters and maybe FSH. I also still haven't finished Sephirot ex, despite having cleared every other EX primal and having them predominantly on farm now, with Zurvan weapons on the majority of my classes, excluding MNK and WHM whom have their completed animas.

Also, the loot limit vs the fatigue system debate is also ludicrous. Unlike the loot limit, the fatigue system had no play around at all. Sure, you could play around with different classes to level them in the fatigue system but considering that some people just dislike other classes for one reason or another (I despise Tank classes, BLM, AST and MCH) that being forced to play them for any sense of progression is just as bad as no progression at all IMO, whereas the loot system can be all together circumvented by crafting. Also, considering how much gear is shared one way or another between classes, it's not even as limiting as it's being made to seem. Tanks, healers, casters, and support classes all share gear with NIN sharing jewelry with Support and MNK and DRG share jewelry with each other so it's not as though the gear limit is as crippling as it seems since, while the same gear might not be BIS for each class, it's still largely acceptable gear for any and all content.

I think instead of a 450 maybe 900 like it is, but I mean it seems that people do take tons of breaks on this game so I totally get SE reasoning. Most content stays relevant within only a months time until moved on to something else. So I think if there was no cap limit and once people go their stuff then those whom take breaks would do it even more frequently. I agree with you OP. I know that they are doing it to force people to sub for longer but I am not really happy with the weekly limit.

The problem is that if you only play one part of the game like using only fighting classes and maybe even only one job, you will always run out of content to do, even with a weekly limit. But at the same time if you care for more than one part of the game this weekly limit can become really stressful for the players, especially if you only have a certain amount of time to play.

Some examples: Player A only levels up one job and does not care for gatherers and crafters. Well even with the weekly limit he/she will run out of content really fast because doing your weekly stuff for one job does not take that much time. They will either not log in the other days or maybe just do some small things. Or maybe since it will be too boring for them only doing those weekly runs they might just take a break anyway and come back later. Removing the weekly lock out might not change much.

Player B likes to play more than one job but does not always has the same time to play. So one week they can reach the weekly limit, the next week they might not be able to play at all. If you remove the lock out for them this gives them the chance to obtain the goods in their own time. So it does not "hurt" them with their progress if they are not playing for a week (since right now you cant catch up those lost 450 stones) because they can just grind it harder in another. This would imo decrease the frustration of falling behind and at the same time they have the chance to truly gear more than one job if they finally have the time for it.

Player C does not only play fighting jobs but also wants to gather and craft. They might be able to play daily but not that long each day. Gearing up all fighting, gatherer and crafter classes will probably take way too much time thus they might not be able to reach the limit at each category. This can lead to frustration since they will kinda fall behind if they dont reach it since you cant add the missing numbers to the next week. Having no limit would give them the chance to level the classes without feeling stressed about getting it weekly done. Maybe they will have more time two weeks later and will craft/gather/fight quite a lot.

In the end wasnt it always said that FF14 is a game that has more casual players? I cant imagine that we have that much players that would grind that much through content that they have those things done quite fast and at the same time even with a limit you will always have those that just burn through content and will have nothing to do. But for those that may play more casually and are interested in more than one job/class this lock out can be imo really annoying.

I kinda have the problem right now too. I dont need to run dungeons anymore since I do have enough gear. Right now I want to finally take care of my gatherer and crafter classes but I am quite blocked by the weekly limit especially for the gatherers. Its really fast to reach 450 red ones with fishing so I am fishing for some hours once a week and be done with it for the rest of the week. At the same time I am already at a point where I barely need the blue gatherer ones anymore so I do have not that much to do per week since I dont feel like fishing for big fishes all the time..I would be playing this game way more often and with much more fun if I just could get the red ones without a lock out. Especially since it annoys me that I still need weeks over weeks of constantly doing those things to gear up my classes, which kinda takes away the fun of doing that.

Heck even if you somehow want to keep a weekly limit for those stuff in the future at least remove it at the end of the expansion. This would give people the chance to level and gear up more jobs and classes for SB and might give them more reason to play right now.

Or you could just say that there is a weekly limit but you can take the missing numbers over to the next week. (Sorry for my bad explanation I am not a native speaker :eek:) Like if you only managed to do 300/450, then next week your limit is raised to 600. This could be increased till you reach the maximum limit of 2000. After you reach the new limit once it will reset back to 450. This might still mean that people will kinda "lose" some stones but at least they might be able to catch up without loosing each week.

But imo removing the lock out would still be the best solution.

I was basing two hours a day on a high estimate on how long it would take you to just do all the weekly capped stuff. That actually might be high. Most of the players I know also play 4+ hours a day, including myself most days, but they don't represent the average player. All of them are better than 90% of the players I see in the Duty Finder, for instance. It seems like people play more than they actually do because of selection bias.

As for your point, I'm all for allowing people to gear up multiple jobs, I'm just against removing weekly lockouts to do it. If they could come up with a good system to do weekly lockouts by job or role, I think that would be great. But if you just, for instance, removed the scripture cap, hardcore raiders would have full scripture within a day of its release, thoroughly outclassing people (including myself) who have no desire to grind optimal content over and over for tomes. Those hardcore players are liable to clear everything and stop playing until the next patch.

Will people just cap everything and stop playing? Yes, that's basically how I play these days. Is that a serious problem? I know I for one actually appreciate that I can only play so much FFXIV in a day. I like to do other things too, and I don't want to feel that any time not spent in FFXIV is causing me to fall behind.

I am going to agree with you on that. Yes, I am agreeing with you on something. But for my own reasons.

Without a cap, a larger percentage of skilled players may take longer breaks from non savage content.

That would in turn, cause the competency level in other content to drop very quickly. So many players are not very good in this game, that will show even more.

An example of this would be a Nidhogg NM that my bf and I did about a month ago. After the huge nerf to it. That group still needed another 10% or 20% echo bonus before they could do enough DPS to clear the DPS check.

But isnt that what always will happen even with a weekly limit? Those people that have the time will finish the limit and those that might not always have the time to play each day will fall behind because they did not reach the limit and have no way to catch up the next week. Also its kinda normal that those people that have more time on the hand will always be further ahead than those that can only play 1 hour a day.

I mean why does it really matter if someone has the full set at release day? They still have to grind the same amount as all other people and are just able to play longer. And I am also not really sure if those truly hardcore players are running duty finder anyway. They will probably have friends that they will run content with and thus will not be available in a run anyway. Also if this is a legitimate reason to limit it we need more limits ingame then. I mean someone that can raid 16 hours a day will surely beat the raid faster than someone that only can do it for 2. Someone that can pvp all day has a bigger chance at reaching the top in a season than those that only do it barely. Should we put a daily limit of only raiding 4 hours a day in the game so that everyone has a better chance of doing world first?

Hopefully this post does not come over as mean or something but I really dont understand the reason that others might have things faster. This already happens with relic weapons, mounts and other stuff and yet barely anyone cares that this happens.

@Istaru: But couldnt it also be that a weekly limit kinda hinders people on doing more content? Why should I for example take part in Nidhogg NM if I am already capped for the week? Any bonus that will drop thanks to new people will be lost thanks to the limit thus why should I even go there? Also in a way Nidhogg NM is not that much of a good example. He does not give that much loot so anyone that did it once will probably not run it again simply because there are better dungeons to earn stones. And if that already happens with a limit then why should it get way worse without? I mean not everyone will rush and hardcore farm something on Tuesday after the release of the patch and be done with it for the rest of the patch. IMO there are more casual players in this game than hardcore grinders. At the same time if there is not limit than maybe some people might level up more than one job thus are running more roulettes per week and even more dungeons. This can mean that they might be through it sooner than with a limit but SE just needs to put some nice incentive behind it to increase the farming. Like sell some really expensive mount for stones (something like Fenrir from the Gold Saucer). People that care for something like that will grind for this, thus more people dungeon content. (But lets not forget that probably quite some people will do content with friends only, having a limit or non will not change that fact)

[And maybe just maybe if people cant clear content because there are only bad players left..maybe some might finally try to get better instead of being carried by those that are good or really good at their job]

The bigger question really is why does one even need 260 or 270 if their limit of content they are willing to try is gona be dungeons? You could pretty much just stop at lore gear and get a few shire pieces and be done dungeons dont require much more than minimum ilvl currently my lowest itlvl is 238. I hate the lockout restrictions. It's one of my larger complaints with this game. Let people gear and play how they want. If it makes people happy to get 3 jobs geared up in a short period of time, let them. This game is designed so that it is very easy to get caught up every major patch, and no single player can truly be that far ahead of anyone else.

I personally would love to play multiple jobs, but honestly I can't deal with having to stretch out the long grind over several months. To me, it's insanely dull and boring. I would love to be able to bring another job to an event, but I feel like I always need to bring my WHM as that is the job I gear first, and therefore is more useful. People don't generally want undergeared players in their parties.

So as it is, I just don't bother with my other classes, and boredom hits regardless. Which is then followed by unsubbing. Also, replies of "but have you tried this, this and this!" really do no good. I have been here since beta (technically 1.0), and I have tried just about everything in game. We all have our preferences of what we enjoy doing, and how we spend our time.

I doubt the caps will ever be removed, but as others have voiced, I think a tomes cap per job could do wonders. This way progression is still slowed (to keep SE happy), but it allows players flexibility in the jobs they gear and play (to keep us happy).

And for what it's worth, I would consider myself a casual player.

Just to emphasis this point. I had a tank with nearly full 235 Garo gear-- only his chestpiece was 260 Shire. He couldn't hold hate well and didn't use Abyssal Drain once yet I healed him up without an issue and still had time to DPS. If you aren't interested in Savage, getting 270 gear is just a progression point. You won't remotely need it.

Yes you may want it but I see no need for SE to remove the cap for players that are casual that if you ask them hey do you wana run some harder content the answer is always no. But they will gladly do roulette and things of that nature then its just really no reason for you to have said gear other than just wanting it. There is no lore cap and you can do dungeons with just lore gear and be perfectly overpowered.

The weekly limit really needs to go. It makes so many of my friends quit. They get bored standing around..so they go play another game at first to pass the time...then, they never come back.

I don't get the obsession with everything being locked. It's unlocked now (somewhat) and I've never seen so many people playing and online in my FC.

No offense, but you either need to play with groups more willing to allow you to swap jobs or don't know how to gear multiple jobs. Between scriptures and raiding, I had the following 260+ within roughly four months:

Dragoon
Ninja
Dark Knight
Warrior
Monk
White Mage (technically 257)
Machinist

That's seven jobs; with only Machinist benefiting a little from the Scripture unlock. If you don't do Savage, then play whatever you want. Gear progression is near irrelevant passed ilvl 250.

That's a tricky question honestly. As mentioned, I do consider myself a casual player. I'm not really into the coil/alex style raids, but I did always enjoy the 24 raids and some extreme fights. But even with being a casual player, if I am going to play a job, I want to bring my best to the table. That is just my playstyle. Can players survive dungeons and other lighter content in minimum iLvl gear? Of course. But to me, it makes my time more enjoyable when I'm not barely scraping by.

It feels like you're pretty much telling a good chunk of the playerbase that gear doesn't really matter. If that's the case, why bother spending our time running dungeons for tomes? What then is the main source of content that SE is providing the casual player since they don't really have a need to gear up that much? And if gear is so unimportant, why bother having caps in the first place since the casual player may not even bother taking advantage of it?

I'd have to look up the charts, but awhile back they had posted a graph showing how many people had cleared the latest raids. The number was incredibly tiny. We obviously have no way of seeing the full picture, but that does seem to imply a bit that only a small percentage of players are really dedicated to clearing "endgame" raids (coil/alex/etc).

As it is now, at least judging by threads that always pop up, a good number of people who rush the new content end up unsubbing after a month anyway. So who is this cap really good for?

The only way that gettin rid of the lock would work , is if people just did content because they liked doing content and Im finding that very few people do this. People dont run Arr primals if they have the mounts, nobody is gona que a level 15 dungeon just because they enjoy doing it.

I would even say that it would effect the those players that only craft if there was no limit then why would anyone want to spend millions on gear thats inferior. Theres a reason why weapons dont drop in dungeons but gear does , are that in level 60 content side pieces stop dropping like they do in leveling content. Taking the limit away would really effect tons of things in this game like I said Im open to a 900 cap that would work for me. But having no cap at all wouldnt work and would effect all kinds of content in this game.

I really like to get my suffering out of the way early. Having to stretch out gearing multiple jobs over several months is boring and tedious to me.

Strange analogy incoming. Fair warning! So now, when I eat a meal, I always try and eat the item I don't like first. Get that sucker out of the way, and then I get to enjoy the rest of my meal happily. With gearing, it's sort of the same feeling to me. I'd much rather spend a shorter chunk of time suffering through dungeons and tome grinding so that I can just enjoy my jobs and do the other content I actually enjoy on them once it's all done. I don't want to tome grinding to stretch for as long as it does.

I get that restrictions happen in games, but SE seems heavy-handed with how they have handled tomes and raid lock-outs. Again, I think opening up the lock-out to be per JOB vs everything combined would be a huge boon.

But for me personally, the lockout kills the fun. And I have spent far more time unsubbed in recent months than having an active sub. Currently only subbed to get that glorious easter egg mount :X

If they removed the lockouts they'll probably find another way to prolong subscriptions. Maybe make the tome gear insanely grindy, like 4000 tomes for a body piece, or just remove the tomes altogether and make everything low drop rate RNG. Having no caps ends up (Even super grindy steps like relic where people finish in 1-2 days) where people that play a lot get really far ahead of others that don't. People making PFs might set the ilvl higher since getting gear would be relatively easy if you play a lot. I think it would be bad for players that only play a couple hours every week.

I really doubt they would remove locks and keep the current system as is. You would just be trading for some other method that they will use to make it take forever.

Currently, they throw in a lot of catch up gear and tune casual content so low (this actually benefits multi job players since they could play whatever for experts and don't need 260-270 everything just to do it) that even with non scripture gear you have a good shot at completing all the easy content in the game.

Playing along with your analogy. Most people wouldn't eat whatever parts of the meal they dislike. Applying that to game terms, if I can cap everything one week, by week three, I'll likely stop queuing into those dungeons entirely-- if not sooner. I barely touched Expert over the last four months even with the restrictions. That directly impacts your queue times. Three months after release, how many people will be running Solm Al Hard and Baelsar's Wall? Not many. If it wasn't for Wondrous Tales and pony farming, I wouldn't even look at the old ARR extreme except to occasionally run them as a challenge with friends. Very few people run old content because they like it. Say they took away tomestones from Leveling Roulette. You'd be waiting 40 minutes for Satasha to queue.

In a separate post you ask, what purpose does gear only have? For non-raiders? None, really. 250 is more than enough to faceroll everything except extremes and savage. It's there because even non-raiders like a sense of progression. Provide it to them all without any limitation and you'll see them grow bored faster.

Not exactly tho like you said you dont like the grind, but ok lets say that the end of your content journey is the 24 man raids and the current ex dungeons. For both of these you can easily get away with lore gear with a few extra pieces with a higher item level.

Lore is unlimited right now so you can have all you jobs inbetween 240 to 250 range you could do all the content that you said you enjoyed like that. So then what for your playstyle not venturing out into other content if all your jobs are ilvl 240 - 250 what else are you going to do in game. I dont no this to be the case but judging from how you say you have unsubbed etc then Id gather nothing really until stormblood, just because shire has a higher ilvl doesn't mean that if you max all your jobs out in it that if you stay on a certain level of content that you would stay subbed any longer than you normally would.

I do get the concerns about the queue times if people all rush to get their jobs geared within a short period of time. While I'm sure there would be a chunk of people who would take advantage of this, I would assume most would still go about it in a more nonchalant manner. It's just having the flexibility to know that you could gear faster if you so desire - leaving that choice to the player vs. being told what they can do.

To go back to gear needs of the player base. Even hardcore raiders can get by with non-optimal gear. They have no real need to max out their ilvl in order to clear the content they enjoy. I think it's safe to assume that gear progression is enjoyable by most players, regardless if they consider themselves casual or hardcore.

I would be thrilled to see them lighten up the restrictions a bit, give a bit more flexibility to how we spend our time gearing and time spent on content.

I think my displeasure comes from a few sources within the game, and they all feed off of each other and have landed me where I am now. And also, I can only speak for myself of course. I know plenty of people are completely content with the game, I'm happy for them! So take this all with a grain of salt.

My (very condensed) transition over the last few years has been:

-I want to play a few jobs! (WHM, BRD, BLM), and I definitely spent a lot of time gearing the first two jobs
-After a few major patches hit, and full gear sets were constantly needing to be replaced, this is when the monotony started kicking in
-Got tired of running the same dungeons and raids over and over again for months at a time
-Dropped down to only a single job because I just couldn't do the long grind for all the other jobs any longer
-Found other jobs I was interested in, but decided not to pursue because I decided I did not want to spend the next several months gearing jobs only to be hit with a new patch & tomes and have to start fresh.
-Stopped doing dailies on my WHM because what was the point? I could get by on whatever gear I had.
-Boredom continues since I've lost the will to battle the gear treadmill, which then killed my desire to try new jobs, etc.
-Unsub

There we go! And really not trying to be dramatic, that's just how it's gone for me. Honestly, this probably just isn't the game for me anymore. I enjoyed it when it first came out, and I still really want to enjoy it, but there are a ton of little things like this that have pushed me to the point where I only sub now and then.

And I think I went off topic to your question :( Going back to that, again, I really do like gear progression. Even as a casual. As I mentioned earlier, I really do try to gear & play my jobs to the best I can, and when I'm hit with caps and (IMO, unecessary) delays, it's just a bit disheartening to me. Do I NEED max Ilvl? Of course not. But no one really does.

For me personally, removing the caps would actually make me excited to try leveling new jobs. i have a bunch that I would like to try out, but I just don't want to deal with gearing it in the current set-up. I'd be spending far more time in game levleing those jobs and working on the gear.

This would not actually bother me at least I can still go at whatever pace I want to. A lot of players already had that scenario and farmed a 1yr+ for a RDM hat in 11 with a very low drop rate and a 72 hour lock out.

Problem isn't lockout it's having all the endgame gear so close together with no longevity. Scrip gear should be casual gear no lockout. Next it should be crafted gear you NEED this to fight normal raid/alex. With the weapon/gear that drops you can now challenge Ex primals, with this weapon/gear you can now challenge Savage.

If you did Anima or the previous tier of savage you can go straight onto extremes, but you need weapon or item drop from Ex primal that strengthens Anima to continue onto Savage. The challenge should be the lockout not stupid time sinks.

I would of preferred that it went Ex primal > T1 > Ex Primal > T2 and so on.

Not really the same, the gear in XI didn't get replaced for years and years until they broke it with Abyssea. That game mostly implemented sidegrades and sometimes had superior gear like certain relics, salvage gear, etc. This game's gear gets replaced every 6 months and is mostly about evening the playing field which means there isn't really a piece of gear like KC that can break the game. That's how XIV is designed, and that's what you have a problem with.

Like I said in my OP, I just wish to play the game, today i may wish to tank, tomorrow I may wish to heal, next day dps, but once you have done your weekly raid, your weekly scrips, etc, It gets discouraging to want to log back in and play a class just to play.

This is exactly why I created this topic/thread. With the gear getting replaced every 6 months, for those that like to play multiple classes, or every class. The lock out is just silly, as it takes months and months and months to get all the gear, just to be hit with, a new set!

Which is precisely what I do. I find no joy in being subbed full time because once you hit weekly lockout, there's nothing left to do. Better to play when it's unlocked.

I dont really think this is just on SE tho the game I played before this swtor , around the time I quit they where on their new expansion but was actually bringing out only a chapter every month. Thus drawing out peoples subs for 12 months with it being 12 chapters I think I dont really remember.

The only thing on gear I have a complaint about and its not even really a complaint would be weapon progression different ways that arent insane to get a weapon thats better than potd. But I mean you dont have to have all of your jobs at ilvl 270 my highest job is at 265 due to having crappy potd weapon, and I just started gearing my healers and its only taken a few weeks, Ill have all my jobs geared to at least level 255 to 260 by exp if not higher in less than two months. I think what you are kinda just saying is that you dont really like the mmo model, because mmos are suppose to be a grind and are suppose to take time thats why you keep giving them money every month. Otherwise you would have a conclusion, gear cant last very long because again how often do you que for something just because you want to do it.

But what your missing tho is so far at least form what Ive read everyone who doesnt like the gear grind has mention that they have unsubbed. While people who grind gear and dont mind it are the ones that arent taking breaks and leaving for months at time. So why change anything for people who only like to play the game in moderation?

As a casual player myself, caps don't help me. If I don't want to do something, I just don't do it. I never worried about keeping up with the Joneses in the first place. That's the glory of having no obligations to this game. Caps are more useful for "casuals" than actual casuals

I understand your problem here, what I dont understand however is: If the lockout is removed and you can just gear up all classes at your own pace (which seems to be faster than its currently possible?) what do you do after each class is fully geared and there is nothing left to do for you because there is no goal to achieve anymore?
I'm genuily curious about that because I'm not bothering with the cap for weeks anymore - all the classes I play are 260+, I have no use for scrips and would gladly give them to any of you!
I also dont really understand why people feel they need ilvl260/270 gear for casual content (I'm sorry if I'm wrongly assuming that you're not intrested in Savage/EX-Primals)
While I'm not totally against the removal of a lockout or something I can totally understand why SE has it in place... and I've been wondering for ages why people need so many tomes when mine are just lying around - while most of my classes still have highlevel gear

They only play in moderation because of the locks. It isn't a grind. It's a lock. You're left with nothing left to do. That's not a grind.

I actually love MMOs, and I really don't mind grinding for gear - if I find it enjoyable and worthwhile. I played XI for years, still sub now and then, and I think we all know how that game was with grinding. I have a few other MMOs under my belt as well, and currently play Archeage (which is another grind-fest).

I like to have projects in game, and I love having long term goals for gear or toys, or whatever else suits my fancy. My issue with XIV is that you spend all this time building up your gear sets, and then you're knocked right back down after a new tome is released. It doesn't feel very rewarding. Grinds exist in all MMOs, but XIV (IMO) does not hide it very well, and the grind is not enjoyable for me.

Same for me too. I'd play so much more without lock outs. 1.x had no lockouts...I played sooo much haha it was fun. Now it's just log in, AFK...chat a little, log out. :/

But the goal is very much there , you say you main whm, ok and you play blm I forgot the other one I think you mention three jobs. Diadem drops 265 gear I have a few pieces on my blm also , proto ultima 270 weekly thats 4 level 270 species in a month. Dun scathe itself gives you 4 level 260 pieces in a month, the exp dungeons give you 245 gear pretty frequently. Alex normal has the option of 250 gear , I dont really think its the lock out here I just dont think you enjoy the content that SE has to offer for whatever reason.

If you dont wana grind scrips and you want your alts leveled find a crafter friend bam 250 gear there as well, most casuals arent gonna have every job at ilvl 270 if anything because of the dun scathe lock on the coin, atm most players period will not have all their jobs at 270. I mean correct me if Im wrong but I just dont feel as tho, if they didn't lock the tom cap which I admit 450 is bad they should at least keep it at 900 are at least enough for chest or pants on a job which is 875. But I dont think just from what youve said that it would keep you subbed any longer than you normal would.

The idea that undoing the lock would keep players that can easily burn out on the game playing just doesnt sound right to me, what it would do is they would still unsub regardless and other players who have accomplished their goals because they are so easily obtainable would go along with them as well and I dont really see that being a good idea. Because then you have to create ur own goals and thats not exactly fun someone who already has a fire bird prob isnt joining in on any farm parties , and its because they got what they wanted. So the samething would go with gear if everyone had 270 gear across the board then what would be left for us to do?

mmh maybe the lock is there so u continue to play the game , i mean if u farmed all of ur gear in 1 week , whos gona do the raids with the people who cant play that much ^^

People play in moderation because of their prospective, others have mention plenty of other ways to gear your job. Gear is like candy in this game my jobs ilvl go up almost daily because the game gives us gear at this point. Its when casuals limit themselves to only dungeons is what gets boring, you are canceling out so much of the game the actual endgame thats outside of the story.

Dont say its nothing to do in the game when you have done even the alex normal story line. When you want even do the hw primals, when you want even consider crafting, or gathering. Are if you dont have all the mounts in the game and you dont try to get them if you like them but dont want to put in any effort to get them. People unsub because they stay in the comfort zone, I know at least on my server many of my friends who raid are having a good time running content maxing their jobs out to ilvl 270. If your last stop on the list of content is a dungeon then yea I can see you burning out pretty fast.

Here's the miscommunication. You're talking about right now. Most lockouts are removed right now. We're talking about when lockouts are actually in place.

You run Alex normal once, get your drop, you're done. 24-man raid once, get your drop, you're done. Even if you're doing savage, you get your clear, you're done.

And then what? There's nothing left to do until next week.

WRONG I have consistently played this game from 1.0, I have over 600 days of playtime.
I DESPISE the weekly lockout.
I LOATHE the lockouts in their present form.
I WANT to progress on my jobs to what I consider to be an acceptable level.
In the last week alone, I have played: WAR, DRK, WHM, BRD, MNK, DRG, BLM and SMN.

In my opinion, how low the caps are set, in addition to the lack of meaningful content chases away many more people than it helps to retain.

At this point, I am mostly apathetic towards gearing and progression in this game. The caps have choked my passion for this game to the point that it's on life support. I don't do anything anymore for the sake of progression, because I don't give one {redacted} anymore much less two {redacted}. I used to, I don't anymore. I don't even do EX anymore. I don't know how long it will be until I feel the same way about the game in general.

The current system does exactly that. There is a segregation of players already. You have players who hit 60 before 3.5 and those that didn't. At least a segregation of 8hr a day players and 2hr a day players would put players in similar skill sets. Which I have no problem with and actually desire.

I see no reason at all to put 2hr and 8hr a day players together. Those are vastly different playstyles. But a player who just started playing again versus one who's been playing may or may not have the same playstyle. And even though the one who just came back may be behind (like they are now) they'd have the option to quickly catch up.

The system you espouse is flawed and puts very different types of players together. Mine doesn't.

I was referencing the two people who mention leaving or subbing off and on the op said that they took an eight month break. And I said Id def want the cap higher 450 is pretty stupid imo 1000 would make alot more sense.

@MomomiMomi the op was talkin about now also tho because they are just now coming back but complaining that its no unlimited cap so they can gear up every to 260, 450 cap as it stands is stupid but no cap at all is just as bad to it has to be a middle ground in an mmo type environment
