So... that spiderman shirt... (new job tease)

In Final Fantasy XI the name of the Blue Mages were "The Immortals" and they were captained by a man named Raubahn. Gee wonder where that sounds familiar. The Immortal Flames in Ul'Dah is run by Raubahn who just so happens to also be an Ala Mhigan, not to mention that Ul'Dah is rather notorious for it's Ala Mhigan refugee population. I don't know, some people might brush that off, but I think it's just too much of a coincidence.

The other thing that makes me think BLU would just make more sense, is why release Samurai during an expansion about Ala Mhigo? Blue Mage follows the aesthetic much more than Samurai does if we want to make some comparisons to how they were in XI, and I think Samurai deserves a bit more, like being released in an expansion when traveling to Doma.

I also think BLU would make for a better tank than SAM, I am really hoping SAM won't be a tank but ehhh that's a person bias lol.

Long story short, could be SAM which is what most people thing, but in reality I think BLU would make more sense for this expansion at least.

It will last 2 weeks like when HW launched and everyone and their mother was playing drk and dps had instant queues.

They should focus on balancing the current tanks and healers before they start thinking about adding more IMO

Existence of active non-role reliant content such as PotD, Frontline PvP and possibly the new Daidem and Chocobos being pets rather than party members allowing for better soloing while waiting on queues might negate a fair amount of complaints.

Doma is gone, razed to the ground, it's nothing more than a pile of rubble so there's nothing to even go to. The Domans that survived fled to Eorzea via ships to avoid the empire. So if Samurai's come specifically from Doma, then they'd now only really be found in Eorzea. So how does that somehow not fit?

DRK was a tank. That's why DPS had instant queues. If you had only DPS then the opposite will happen and DPS queues will get longer. It is pretty much the exact opposite of what happened when HW launched.

I am 100% convinced that spiderman = blue mage and I am so excited for it.

There is 0 hints about Samurai in the game. For NIN and AST they were hinted at(Thancred and the AST in the tower in Coerthas). RDM was hinted at thru Ilbred. DNC we have in Uldah already...and why would they show the girl in red dancing like that?

MCH had Merlwyb to hint at it and the guild in 1.x series. Can someone show me where Samurai was hinted at?

I mean I certainly won't discredit Samurai still being a possibility, but I just think in this EXP that BLU would make more sense. At least to me it does. They could pull an XI and never send us to Othard like they never sent us to the Far East in that game (for the most part), but we know a lot more about that place then we did in XI. I think Samurai still has the potential of being in an Othard inspired EXP in the future, I wouldn't be mad if they added it into Stormblood, but I might be a bit disappointed that they didn't jump at the opportunities to implement BLU.

There is also some evidence to back Raubahn himself being a Blue Mage already, like him using the weapons Tizona which is a BLU specific weapon in XI. He's considered the Bull of Ala Mhigo and he uses abilities that one could relate to primals. He was also once upon a time a dual wielder.

Ilberd used a discontinued Gladiator ability from 1.0, Red Lotus Blade. While that's a weaponskill available to RDM in XI, I wouldn't really call it a straight hint in XIV.

While not hinted at ingame (yet), Zenos yae Galvus clearly fits the Samurai job. They even mentioned that his weapons aren't unique to him, at the previous Fan Fest.

Raubhan having anything to do with FFXIV's potential Blue Mages is an incredible reach. His feats we've seen have more in common with Warrior's and their Inner Beast than anything else, and his animal motif is nothing considering he got it from the bloodsands, coliseum fighting, where PvP armor has similar animal motifs as well. The fact he once dual wielded as well is also entirely irrelevant, as the only game Blue mages have done so in was FFXI, and it wasn't even a trait natural to them initially. If you keep going off BLU from FFXI, then it makes the most sense to put them in a Thavnair/Radz-at-Han expansion, which is a place we'd likely go to far sooner than Othard.

That's like saying MCH should use dual pistols because Merlwyb uses 2 pistols. Yet MCH almost nothing to do with Merlwyb in the slightest. Just like despite Yugiri being a Ninja, we actually don't get the abilities she's shown to use. Special characters usually have nothing to do with our actual Jobs in the slightest.

Ilberd did not use Red Lotus Blade. The ability he used looked nothing like the 1.0 ability, and in HW we see the move he uses is called Sanguine Blade, which is usually a Dark Knight ability, though in XI it was used by pretty much anything that could wield a sword.

Ninja didnt fit in until they added it. they had to add story to add it :P

AST was a sharlayan thing, supposed to be hidden from the rest, they werent in the towers. the sharlayans hunted the 2 that came to eorzea for that very reason. even machinist was a new thing thought up by the ishgardians.

The one comment about Doomtrain from that event was from a single NPC making a comment about misplacing his Doomtrain minion. Not the same thing as the director saying "yeah, these two jobs would be nice for the expansion" and having one of them be confirmed.

For in-game lore, the current Legatus we've been going against this entire expansion uses a katana and fights in a similar style to previous FF Samurai (think Jack, X-2, and XI.)

The MCH guild was not in the game until 3.0. What you're thinking of is the cut MSK guild, which isn't the same thing.

Furthermore, if you're going to say "oh the Ishgardian astrology tower was CLEARLY a prelude to the wildly different Sharlayan-style astrologians we become in 3.0" then I'm sorry to say but you're reaching really, reeeeeeeally hard there. You could point to any part of the map and claim that's foreshadowing for future jobs -- Merchant! Dancer! Shepherd (this one DID have a guild in 1.0 too!) Necromancer! Demonologist!

Edit - Oh, and Red Mages have effectively no in-game lore right now either. But I have faith the dev team will take the NIN approach and add some for them leading up to it, or they'll take the MCH approach and have it come out of nowhere and fit perfectly.

Their story was slowly introduced..it wasn't just oh bam here is the job with 0 back story or info in prior MSQ. That is what I am saying...we are nearing the end of 3.x and there has been no lead up to SAM.

The MCH guild was in 1.0 since day one. I played 1.0 and have screens of the sign..and he said tons of times he will give us our Muskateer in 1.x days.... I mean see, it was at least hinted at in some manner. >_<


There has been 0 sign of any Samurai in Erozea in the story...

Yea but what I am asking is where is the story and lore for SAM so far. At least you can find tidbits in the game about dancer, rdm, etc etc all these jobs.

And yes that is what I mean, from the MSK guild we knew some type of gun job was coming because Yoshida promised he would put it in the first expansion, so while it was not MSK...it was still along the lines of what he mentioned since the 1.x days on the forums since the very first few live letters.

I do know he said he wants SAM in here...but I feel like I am just repeating myself endlessly...where is SAM mentioned in the lore? I am not asking how the other jobs are NOT Mentioned, I am asking where is samurai mentioned in the story and/or quests, etc?

I usually keep up well with the lore and I have personally never seen it mentioned...maybe I missed something? That is what I am asking.

It does look like it could be a Great Katana...but hmm but the Legatus weapons are nothing to go by, they have always been unique to them. We do not have ANY weapons that they have ever used. So if anything, this would show even less of a chance..or making even less sense of getting the job cuz this guy has the weapon lol.

Either a different classic FF job that none of us or thinking of, or a brand new job for FFXIV.

Dancer is so vague that it's something mentioned everywhere. There has been zero mention of Dancers as something more than just someone who dances. Red Mage has absolutely not been mentioned ANYWHERE, and the tidbit you are going to try and use for it from 3.4 has actually nothing at all to do with RDM.

Where was Sharlayan Astrologians mentioned in the lore? Cause Ishgardian ones have little to nothing to do with the AST we play as. How about machinists? When were machinists specifically mentioned by name? Or Dark Knights? Where was that in the lore before it was added?

I just don't understand how this shirt could be confusing? Like if did end up being BLU I can't imagine how ridiculous most of these people must look in regards to over analyzing to the devs lol. The shirt seems pretty clear to me "Spider-man was bit by a radioactive spider and can now use spider abilities." I just don't feel like they're going that out of their way to confuse people.

I absolutely think the spiderman shirt is hinting towards Blue Mage, but that's the only real hint we've gotten towards blue mage outside of the anniversary event mention. YOU are the one coming up with other weak reasons that have really nothing at all to do with Blue Mage, with the tremendous reaching with Raubhan.

Swordmasters...that could be any sword job though. It could be Samurai, it could be Red Mage...I see how you can relate it to Samurai though, sure. ^^

Since Yugiri plays a role in the msq by some early pics I would imagine that SAM could come from Doma similar to how nins came from there to help with the resistance. However that may prove that my greatest fear of SAM being a tank might become a reality. I doubt SE would purposely introduce 2 dps on xpac launch. Not without teasing a tank or dps role at least. Honestly, I really prefer the next tank to have some sort of blunt dmg so the synergy with monk is more coherent. Honestly idk why people keep wanting to make SAM a tank. In this game I feel like its better suited to a dps role.

Given his past t-shirts we are probably digging a little too much into this and just need to see what he wears next. For now I just think this further solidifies Dancer as a job since Spider-man tends to dance around his enemies while being agile and flexible.

yeah I agree. Why would they show her dancing so long in the trailer, use the same colors and outfit (her outfit looks like dancer from previous FF games) just to mess with us? That would be so trolly lol. Plus Spider-Man wears red but idk....

That can obviously be easily blown off by some, but I think all things considered it can have implications. Is it reaching? Sure, but it's not reaching as far as the name of a director from a Toby Maguire Spider-Man movie from 2002.
